I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I looked. What your favourite video game? Or games? Here's mine: 1. Star Trek 2. Sonic: lost world (I still love it) 3. The sims 3

    Gaming Emulation Discussion

Emulation itself is perfectly legal, its distribution of and downloading of ROMS for games you don't own which is the grey area. Please do not share ROMS on this thread or offer places that you can download them. Now that that's out of the way: emulation. It's something I do a lot of myself. However I mostly emulate games that I already own but either have lost the hardware to play, are too inconvenient to bust out hardware for, would like to play on the go, games I had that broke/were stolen, or games I just didn't get a chance to get and can't afford paying insane amounts on ebay to get. Though I keep to keep that last group as small as possible. I find myself mostly replaying Chrono Trigger over and over again on different devices, a game that I've bought every single version of because it's my favorite game of all time. I emulate most of my games on my PC, but when I want them on my big screen, I have them emulated on my Wii U (via the virtual Wii mode's Homebrew channel). When I want them on the go, I go for my modded PSP and sometimes my tablet/smartphone. With so many great emulation devices out there, it's a great time to be an old school gamer. I am reaaaaally interested in getting the Dragonbox Pyra when it comes out, as it's a sequel device to the Open Pandora which boasts better specs and such. What about you guys? What are some systems you emulate a lot? What devices are you using to do so? What's your preffered controller? All things emulation let us discuss them.
  4. Any games made you rage quit lately?
  5. Which games can you beat in or under 24 hours? I don't mean which games can you speedrun specifically (although you can include those) I just mean games you know well enough / games that are short enough that you can start from the beginning and finish it in the same day. Only 2 come to mind for me Spyro 2 - I've played it at least 200 times now for start to finish, and that's not an exaggeration. I've been playing since I was a kid, so I've had a ton of time to practice it, though I can't speedrun it Some lilo and stitch game - It was loosely based on the first game. I rented it back when blockbuster was a thing, and I beat it in 4 hours. I'm fairly certain it didn't have a lot of stages (5 maybe?) and I felt cheated out of a good game what about you guys?

Mega Thread What are your computer specs?

Tell everyone about your computer (or computers, if you use more than one)! What model is it and what OS does it run? Myself, I work from two laptops: an HP Pavilion dv6-3170ca for school, and an HP EliteBook 8740w for home (mostly) - both run Windows 7 x64. Here's the smaller one: Specs: Intel i5 2.2 GHz Dual Core w/ Hyper-Threading (up to 2.8 GHz w/ TurboBoost) integrated graphics 4 GB DDR3 RAM 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive 15" glossy screen (1366x768x24) fingerprint reader Blu-ray drive (read-only) And the larger: Specs: Intel i7 1.7 GHz Quad Core w/ Hyper-Threading (up to 3.06 GHz w/ TurboBoost) NVIDIA Quadro 5000M GPU w/ 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM 8 GB DDR3 RAM (high speed - 1333 MHz!) 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive 17" 1.07 billion-colour matte screen (1920x1200x30) fingerprint reader backlit, spillproof keyboard Both are beautiful computers and serve me really well. I use the dv6 for school because it wasn't a very expensive computer and has great battery life, and the EliteBook is my awesome gaming/do-it-all machine.
  7. Welcome to Classic Games Discussion Thread (Unofficial)! This is a place to talk about all classic games and all things classic or retro. From Doom, to Zelda, from NES to N64, from PC to console, this is a place to talk about all things related to classic or retro games. Be it games that deserve a remake, games that need a sequel, or just discussing how great some of these older games are, this is the place for you. All older games deserve the same love as newer games, so feel free to share some old classics that many of us maybe haven't played yet! What constitutes classic? The jury is out on this one, but a vast majority of people consider classic games that are not current generation and most of the time past a certain age threshold. Most people would argue that classic is anything that came before the Xbox 360 currently, but obviously as time goes on, games that were previously not considered "classic" will become classic. A few good rules of thumb to follow when identifying if a game is classic or retro: Is the game over 10 years old? Is it available on the Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 upon its initial launch? Would many consider it "retro"? Are you able to find it easily in retail stores such as GameStop, or Walmart still to this day? Would you find it in a retro game store? Is it re-released on Nintendo's Virtual Console, PSone Classics on PSN, or the Xbox Live Arcade? How easy is it to get your hands on a legit copy? All questions to ask when you are determining if a game is classic or retro. A good rule of thumb that a lot of people go by is since 2005 was the year that last generation started, any game that was made before 2005 is mostly considered classic or retro. If it was made before 2005 chances are it's retro enough to talk about here. The exceptions mostly being games that are still being actively updated since then such as World of Warcraft. Minor updates don't count, such as GoG updating older games to work on new systems, and there are random exceptions such as Bethesda releasing a new episode of Quake after 20 years to celebrate the game's anniversary. What kind of stuff can I talk about in this thread? All things retro and classic, be it hardware discusses, tips, tricks, easter eggs, you name it. Some ideas of things you can discuss to get the ball rolling for you: Easter eggs in old games. Desire for remakes/current remakes Port comparison Buying guides Emulation discussion (within legal limits) Recommendations Reviews Mods for old games Show off your collection Show off your old school achievements Talk about old school hardware Make friends There is plenty to discuss for all people! Useful Links Below are some useful links to take advantage of if you're looking to get into classic games or retro playing. Keep in mind no one works for any of these sites and these are not endorsed in any way by MLP Forums. I am not advertising these sites, merely offering them as resources for you to use. GOG - A source for old school PC games. GOG prides itself on fair pricing, no DRM and getting classic PC games running on modern systems. They're an excellent source for those older PC titles that you've been craving to try out and for a reasonable price. Highly recommended for the PC gamer who wants to take a trip back in time to when office computers could actually run "modern" games and when story telling was crucial to the success of a game. Steam - I don't think Valve's distribution platform really needs much introduction, but you can find a good handful of classic titles on Steam these days, from Counter-Strike to I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Steam is actually becoming a pretty good platform to get classic games on, especially with devs re-releasing games to support it. eBay - If you're someone who prefers physical copies of old games, eBay is obviously going to be a place where you'll need to frequent to get your hands on hardware and software. Please do not link any ebay listings in this thread though as it violates MLPF rules. This is only linked for those who are unfamiliar with it (doubtful there are many) and no personal selling is permitted on this thread or anywhere else on MLPF. GameStop (US) - A little while ago, GameStop actually introduced a retro games program to get your hands on older games and hardware. While it's still limited and mostly restricted to US residents, it's a good place to start. Emulator Zone - FOREWARNING, NO POSTING OF ROMS, ISOS OR ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS. Emulation is a legal grey area, but if you own the games already emulation is actually perfectly legal, it's also legal for shareware and abandonware. It can be very useful for playing those cartridges you have laying around but don't want to break out the old hardware, or even just getting your games on the go. DOSBox - Essential for running a good chunk of old school PC games. While it is an emulator, it is almost mandatory for games that were made in MSDOS. It is also useful at running Windows 3.1 games.
  8. I thought I made this thread before, but apparently not. So, here it is! There is a recent purchases thread in general discussion, but this will be specifically for anything gaming related. ^__^ So if you have bought anything that is in the category of gaming, share it here! I will say this one now, tomorrow I will be buying the Attack on Titan game for Xbox One, since I cannot pre-order it. Really looking forward to it. :3
  9. So, with Pokemon Sun & Moon heading towards us, I'm personally looking forward to another wonderful soundtrack from the games. I don't think there's ever been a Pokemon entry where I have felt dissatisfied with the musical score, Junichi Masuda does an amazing job and I have little reason to fear that won't be the case here. So with that said, what are some of your favorite music tracks from the games? Doesn't necessarily have to be from the main series either, the spin-offs have their share of it too. One I've been listening to recently is the Cipher Peon Battle from Colosseum. Might be a synthesizer, but I still love that guitar riff.
  10. I'm sure this thread has been posted multiple times, but I figured to give it a new kick start! Anypony here play MTG? What kinds of formats do you like to play? What's your favorite color (or color combination) to play? As for me, I like Commander, and my favorite color combo is UWR, or Jeskai/America. Hoping to chat Magic with anyone here!
  11. You know how games are so much fun the first time, but when you go back and play them again, it's so much less interesting? Obviously some games are different every time depending on your choices, but besides that. Are there any games you wish you could go back and play for the first time? My answer is probably Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness. Seriously, that was my favorite game. I thought the story was so good, and it was so much fun playing it, but when you go back and play it again, you already know what's going to happen so it feels like the whole game is just boring dialogue you already read. It's been a while since I've played it, but I would still replay it. I'm just saying, I wish I could play it for the first time.
  12. Okey, so... These games. Lots of people love them, some people hate them (Because they didn't play them, lol). Anyhow, we all know that both games have huge fan bases. Both games also have comparable gameplay. So, the question is obvious. What side are you on and why? Personally I prefer Majora's Mask. I love the story and the dark setting. The transformation masks are also a great + imho (I can finally play as a zora!). The time travel mechanic is well implemented and this allows you to replay your favourite quests as you please (Or take on bosses with your new equipment). All in all I prefer the Majora's Mask game more because of all of the reasons I named. I do respect and love Ocarina of Time as well, but I just think that Majora's Mask has more to offer.
  13. Topic title is self explanatory. What boss, enemies and areas have you had trouble with or been frustrated with in games? What gave you trouble? Keep spoilers in tags, of course. Let's try not to attack people for things in games they find difficult. Everyone has that one thing they just can't get right in a game as much as they have that one thing they are supremely good at. I'll start with the Holoholo Bird in Baten Kaitos Origins, fight starts at 2:30: This fight is annoying because it comes right at the start of disc 2 and if you aren't keeping multiple saves you're stuck here since your airship crashed in this jungle. Can't go back to buy anything and there's a cutscene from the start of the disc where the last save is. If you aren't prepared for this fight you'll get royally screwed. This guy makes it look easy, especially since he's using pretty advanced techniques like the skill turbo which allows you to use any amount of skills, rather than being stuck with the few that match the power level of the meter on the right that has a maximum of five.
  14. It has now begun, fellow trainers. The official trailer for Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield has been revealed. I'm so happy to see that Gen 8 has finally been announced. The Galar Region looks pretty interesting with beautiful scenery and cities. The graphics look absolutely breathtaking when seeing said graphics on the Switch. I don't know what the region is based off of, but I'm looking forward to visiting the Galar region. Along with that, we've been given some new starters to choose from. Each one looks really cute and interesting to have as a starter. The direct didn't specify how many Pokemon will be included in Generation 8, but I hope we'll get a decent amount. I remember seeing some Pokemon from past generations in the trailer. So, hopefully we'll have a great balance of old and new Pokemon when playing Sword and Shield. What are you overall thoughts of the trailer and game in general? Which starter are you going to take along with you on your journey? Are you hyped and wish to have the game right now!? Also, do you think there will be mega evolutions, Z-Moves and potentially any new types introduced? Please share your thoughts, discussion and theories. Speaking of the trailer, here's the trailer and please enjoy.
  15. Has anyone seen that shocked Pikachu meme that's been going around, lately? Well, apparently, a starter in the Pokemon Sword & Shield trailer looks strangely familiar....... has anyone noticed? https://twitter.c om/NyghtmareMuffyn/status/1102780704369270784 Any thoughts on this, or what memes might result due to it?

    Gaming The "BotW" Fallacy

Why do people pretend that this: Looks "much better" than this: Both look like mid-gen Ps3 releases at best. Yet nearly every Switch owner I have conversed with seems to drool at the mouth over BotW while dismissing Sw/Sh as subpar or "disappointing". Open world Pokemon would be nice, but I'm referring mainly to the visual complexity on display here. Why are these people so enamored by BotW's graphical presentation? Is it all some big inside joke I am unaware of?
  17. So, does any one on here collect retro video games? If so, what consoles do you collect for? Any specific game genres you like to collect for or do you collect them all?

Gaming Anypony here a fan of FNaF?

It feels like the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise has been around for a long time now, but it'll be 5 years old this August. For the past 4½ years, there's been 7 games, a lot of fan art, a lot of fan games, tons of merch, and seemingly endless theories. Makes you wonder which fandom has more fan-made content, the FNaF or MLP fandom. So, does anypony out there like FNaF? If so, which of the 7 games and many characters are your faves. Me, IDK which game(s) are my fave, really. For the characters, my faves are Nightmare, Ennard, Springtrap, Bonnie, Toy Bonnie, Nightmare Bonnie, and Funtime Foxy/Mangle. Are they the same character or different? IDK! Also, do you have any of the books? I have all of them, but one's missing somewhere. And I have all of the games, except for FNaF World. Did anyony like that one? Exotic butters!

    Gaming Metroid Prime 4 Delayed

Hello everypony! Nintendo fans have been waiting since E3 2017 for news about Metroid Prime 4 when it was announced by Nintendo, and we finally got something out of it. It's being delayed because they are going to completely restart the development from scratch. I don't blame Nintendo for this. When Metroid Other M came out, I was severely disappointed in the game. It wasn't nearly as good as it could have been. And then the fans hated Federation Force to no end, which I don't blame them for that. I think this could be interpreted as Nintendo acknowledging the fact that the fans don't want another average title like Other M. They certainly do appear to be serious about Prime 4, so I think the delay is for the best.

    Gaming Game: Cry of Fear

Has anyone here played Cry of Fear? If so, what are your thoughts on the game?
  21. For me, it was Skyward Sword. What about you guys?
  22. Even video games we enjoy can frustrate us. Whether it's something small, or something that makes us despise it with a burning passion. It does't matter how much we enjoy the game, we can love and hate it. For me it would Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I have ragequit this game any times, due to its obnoxious difficulty and flawed life system. Despite this, I still enjoy it thanks to the charm and the ideas it brought to the table. If I solely hated it, I probably would have never revisited it.
  23. Adorkable

Hey, everypony. ^^ I hope I'm not the only one here who's heard of's infamous series: For those who know what I'm talking about, sweet! ^^ For those who may not, allow me to explain. ^^ Death Battle is a series where 2 characters from (usually) video games, have their "skills, weapons, and armor" completely analyzed by 2 awesome bros known as Wizard and Boomstick, to see who would win a fight. It's actually a really awesome series, I would highly recommend it to those who haven't watched it. ^^ Death Battle has answered some of the most common asked questions to "who would win a fight between x and x?" Some of their most infamous battles have been: Goku VS Superman Mario VS Sonic Spider-Man VS Batman and just for us Bronies Starscream VS Rainbow Dash This series is really cool, and I think there's some serious discussion behind all this. ^^ Today, they have just released their newest Death Battle: Luigi VS Tails Now, take these with a grain of salt, because there's a lot more battles then these I've just named. ^^ For those who have already seen the videos and wish to discuss, I ask that you keep spoiling parts under spoiler tags. Oh, and did I mention that they animate a fight at the end of the videos? Very cool! ^^ So, that's about it. ^^" I'm not entirely sure where to start discussion besides saying that today's Luigi VS Tails battle was amazing! ^^ Has anyone else seen it yet? ^^
  24. Yes, oddly enough, he'll be retiring despite Nintendo's recent renaissance with the Nintendo Switch. He was a man good at his job though, so I do bid him a kind farewell.
  25. The games I am very fond of are the games I use to play as a very young boy. My brother let his friend borrow Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, a game that I am so fond of, but I cannot play anymore because he hasn't given it back yet. He doesn't even play it. Another game is Super Monkey Ball Adventure. It's a game on the GameCube, the game that came out after Amusement Vision was stopping to create Super Monkey Ball and Sega took over. I remember that game so much. I remember my main was MeeMee for some reason. Another is Sonic Heroes, my brother played that game a lot on the GameCube. I played it a little, even though it wasn't my kind of game. Still, it's a game of my childhood and it would great if I had that game. Now, what games do you no longer have access to? UPDATE: Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg was given back from my bro's friend and I can play it now.
