To be honest, I'm very excited for VR, even though I can't afford the graphics card and the new HMDs coming out this year; I'm still going to buy a Oculus Rift DK2 this month. I'm a bit overexcited, personally... What's your opinion on VR (Virtual Reality)?
Do anyone here own a VR-device, or intend to buy one? About one and a half year ago I brought an Oculus Rift DK2, and now more recently I have brought a Samsung Gear VR. The DK2 was a nice and fun experience, but not something I would recommend to the average consumer (There is however a Ponyville game for it, so that's a big plus). Don't get me wrong: It was great, but not great enough. The consumer version of the Oculus Rift was however just released (but it's quite expensive and requires a beefy computer). From what I have heard, it is much better than the DK2. The Gear VR however is something that I STRONGLY recommend if you have one of the required phones (Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, S7 and one of the Notes (forgot which one)). I often use it to watch youtube-videos or movies in my own "portable cinema" (I'm sitting in an actual virtual cinema-theater) while sitting on the train to work (the other passengers probably think that I'm nuts). It's also possible to browse the internet with the Samsung Internet app (I could have written this through my gear VR, but it would admittedly be a bit tedious). There are also some really good games for it. Like EVE: Gunjack (Being a stationary gunner in space), Smash Hit (A game about throwing balls at glass) and Ocean Rift (Swimming under the ocean. An excellent app to introduce friends and colleagues to VR). I could gush about how much I like the Gear VR a whole lot more, but I would like to hear what you have to say: Do any of you plan to buy a VR-device? Have anyone tried the HTC Vive, the consumer Oculus Rift or the Playstation VR? Or even the Microsoft Hololens? Do you know any good apps for VR?
OK, so, after the Smiler incident at Alton Towers last week. I was thinking, What about the future of Video Games and Roller Coasters? Could we, build our own rollercoasters like in Nolimits 2 Oculus Rift edition and make it as long as we like and yet have a simulated Rollercoaster by the 2040s? What about video games? Could making our own games become incredibly easy in the 2040s? I would like to be able to make my own Virtua Cop or FPS or Racing Game using that technology. What if you could create your own games? With Haptic feedback. Meaning you can feel it. What do you think? About future technology and roller coasters in the 2040s?
So, the dev kits are already out and tons of people around the world are testing out what will likely be the future of gaming! Developers have already started to make games for the oculus rift, as well as modding pre-existing games for compatibility and working on ways to improve the oculus rift, itself. I really can't explain to you how excited I am for this. These are the VR games we expected in the 90's but never had (remember virtual boy?). This is seriously a huge leap in gaming and technology, and it feels like things are already moving along at a good pace. The oculus rift will be released commercially sometime next year and hopefully by then some of the games I anticipate will be released. So far, the selection is really sparse. For those of you that don't know, the Oculus Rift is a virtual reality head mount/visor thing with stereoscopic vision and it actually works. It's truly, truly immersive. Here's the promo video: Here's some things people have done with it: And here are some games in development that I'm practically salivating over (I love survival horror games, btw): (What I always wished EVE was really like) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQgVj9tBQG0&sns=em What you need to know about this ^ game. One you die, you're dead. That's it. It's game over. Also, there won't be a health bar or any other stats/menu options in view. There will be very few health packs. It also has a really cool vibe that reminds me of the movie Moon. For some reason not all of my links are showing up not sure what to do about it
