  1. The most common emotion in response to The Perfect Pear so far is crying, whether it's sad, happy, or both. The way it's written, animated, composed, and told brings out such a raw emotional depth that hits people right in the heart. Did you cry during the episode? If so, where (and if you can, why)? I did in three areas: When Big Mac and Burnt Oak agree to exchange stories of Bright Mac. Burnt Oak's tears during the brief moment shows me how important Bright Mac was to his life. The song. The way the guitar makes its noise, Buttercup's dedication to Bright, and heartwarming tone brings out such happiness that my eyes well. Grand Pear's apology to the Apple siblings. The pain and regret is so evident in his voice that Grand Pear turns into the show's most tragic character. The fact that he'll never be able to apologize to his daughter makes it more crushing.
  2. Note: This episode is scheduled to air on Australia's Boomerang Channel on June 21 at 1:40AM EST, 10:40PM PST. Title: The Perfect Pear Air Date (Australia/Boomerang): June 21, 2017, scheduled time 3:40 PM in one of Australia's time zones. Air Date (U.S./Discovery Family): August 5, 12 noon EST Writer: N/A Summary: "The Apple Siblings learn about their parent's love story and find out that they're half Pear." Streams: https://www.twitch.tv/gohun04 https://www.twitch.tv/aerodactylius If it does air, and someone uploads it onto DailyMotion and/or YT, I'll link it. Poll's added! Credit to @Jeric for all but the top and bottom. DM (early-aired, Standard Def): DM (Discovery Family, HD):
  3. From July until September 2017, I wrote a (very long!!) fanfiction for the show in which the Mane Six discover that Princess Celestia and Luna have a brother, Stellas Spatium, who is returning to exact his vengeance on the pair after being banished to another dimension. Now, at the time I wrote it the newest episode was The Perfect Pear and the movie was still a long way off. There are certainly things that have since been explored in the show that mean my fanfic no longer works as if it were canon (there's no mention of Twilight's school in my story, nor of Spike having wings), HOWEVER, there are things I wrote that have since come true in the show!! In my fanfic, Lord Tirek reveals to Twilight that Starswirl the Bearded is alive and hiding somewhere outside Equestria! In Shadow Play, Twilight discovers Starswirl is alive and attempts to free him from prison. In my fanfiction, Queen Chrysalis teams up with Tirek to get revenge on Starlight and her friends. In the newest episode, Chrysalis creates "The Mean Six" for the very same reason. There's other things too like the fact that Tirek is returning later this season and I'm pretty sure Starlight becoming an allicorn (which happened in my fanfiction) will be happening at some point, too!!!
  4. So, Top bolt came and went, and there's something that's bothering me; according to equestria daily, rainbow dash had more solo songs coming up. But Top bolt came and went, and while I had expected a song due to that, there was none. http://www.equestriadaily.com/2016/07/what-we-learned-from-my-little-pony.html So here's the question, if they were mistaken there (as I wouldn't be surprised about) and they misheard that RD would sing in LOE or the movie, or they were talking about Season 7?
  5. I created the first version of this thread WAY back in 2013 and it was a blast. Now that the show is in its 7th season and so many interesting new characters have come along, I think it could be even more fun now, so I'm bringing it back! Not sure how the mods would feel about me bumping a four-year-old thread, even if it's mine...so I'll start a new one just to be safe. The real world, Equestria, or both are in danger. You must lead a rag-tag group of FIVE MLP: FIM characters on an RPG-like quest to save the day. Here are the rules! You may pick: 1. ONE of the Mane Six. 2. ONE non-Mane Six unicorn, earth pony or pegasus. 3. ONE minor villain. (Can be reformed, or not; your choice.) 4. ONE stallion. 5. ONE background pony. 6. ONE non-pony character. (No OCs, EQG characters, or major villains allowed) I will brohoof anyone who also posts good reasons for each of their picks (like what special abilities this character has, what he or she adds to the team, etc). Have at it, my friends!
  6. NOTE: I've seen a lot of posts from users on both sides with a vengeful attitude towards either fans or detractors both on this site (at least two of which I reported) and off. Wishing ill will at people or a group of people, calling someone or a group of fans "butthurt" (an ad hominem with homophobic and misogynistic implications), bashing fans, and verbal abuse to fan factions are vile and not welcome in this thread. For the sake of keeping discussion cool and civil, save this immaturity in your trash box and don't post it. On another note, even though this episode won't air in the U.S. until June 10, Treehouse TV in Canada will air it this Saturday sometime between 11 and 11:30am. Be prepared for spoilers! Title: A Royal Problem Air Date (Canada/Treehouse TV): May 20, 2017 Air Date (U.S./Discovery Family): June 10, 2017 Writer: Joanna Lewis & Kristine Songco (a.k.a., The Sister Writers) Summary: "Starlight Glimmer is sent to solve a friendship problem between Princess Celestia and Princess Luna; when it's clear that the problem is that the royal sisters don't appreciate one another, Starlight impulsively switches their cutie marks!" This episode will continue the trend from Treehouse TV starting last Sunday with Fluttershy Leans In: Two episodes will air per week, one on Saturday, one on Sunday (and could air the finale early in the summer), while Discovery Family will air one per week. More than likely due to the Movie coming out in October. The airing timing isn't consistent, so if you plan to watch the episode via the stream, arrive early. When someone uploads the episodes on YT and DailyMotion, I'll link them to you here. A poll will be published after it airs. 7. Note: Parental Glideance spoilers! Read at your own risk. Off and on, FIM used alicorn or pegasi wings for expressive purposes. The most traditional I've seen is to wrap them around another for comfort. Beginning in season 2, though, pegasi/alicorn wings were treated like a set of hands, the two examples from the back of my mind being Fluttershy opening her bag in the market and both Dash and 'Shy high-fiving following Hurricane Fluttershy's climax. However, these events are quite rare. The only other time I recall it is during Rainbow Falls when Dash and the Wonderbolts did wing pushups. Last week, Parental Glideance takes the hand wing and amps it up. Examples include: Windy and Bow plug their ears with a feather. Bow's wings spread his collar to reveal his Rainbow Dash undershirt. Windy and Spitfire wingshake. Spitfire and Fleetfoot salute with their wings. Bow hugs Dash with a wing (done before). Dash facewings after the CMCs and parents create a pyramid nearby. As Dash yells at her parents, she uses her left wing to count. Windy covers her eyes with her wings as she weeps. I'm shocked that DHX hasn't humanized their wings so much prior to this episode, and it's an excellent surprise. This use of animation really gives the medium and lore an extra sense of life. I don't know if Hamilton came up with the ideas himself or were recommended by them from other people (i.e., Big Jim or the Sister Writers), but given his past history from Avatar and Korra, it feels like a Hamilton thing. It'd be great to see it done more. What do you think of pegasi or alicorn wings being treated as a set of human hands? And if you enjoy it, any ideas you'd like to see DHX use for them?
  8. After I failed Fake It 'Til You Make It, I decided to put all 28 failed episodes in order from worst F- minus to least worst F+. That list eventually expanded into a complete list of episodes I graded, from the best letter-plus episode to the worst letter-minus, . The statuses can be found here: A episodes, B episodes, C episodes, D episodes, and F episodes. With each list compiled, I'm taking every episode in the show and arranged it in order from the best to the worst. The list is always subject to change; episodes could be upgraded or downgraded at anytime. S9 episodes are in bold underline. Those aired early are under "spoiler" tags. To see every piece of FIM media I graded (and how I graded each episode for each season), click here. That gets updated during each season and possibly in between or during the offseason, if I changed one. And for readability purposes, I sectioned each list with "— — —" in between. Let's begin! 9. One of my biggest peeves in reviewing is giving something a calculated score, because it's very difficult if not impossible to reduce the quality to such a mark. Plus, whenever many people see a score, they tend to not read the review at all and rely on the score/grade itself as proof for purchase. Nonetheless, if I were to grade the following based on the following items below, they would be the followings below the first rule. The grades are respective and separated to the following categories: Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5 Season 6 Season 7 Season 8 Season 9 MLP: The Movie & Specials Equestria Girls series, RR animated shorts, specials, and IDW comic/annual Main Comic Series* Micro-Series Friends Forever If you want to see my order of every FIM episode from best to worst (with grades), click here. Title: A Health of Information Air Date (U.S./Discovery Family): Sept. 23, 11:30am EST Writer: Sammie Crowley and Whitney Wetta Summary: "While helping Fluttershy gather supplies, Zecora comes down with a terrible disease called “Swamp Fever". 11. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of these legendary ponies in the upcoming episodes, so let the discussion begin! As for me, my favorite (so far) is Mage Meadowbrook. Not only is her character design lovely ("I really like her mane!"), but I love listening to her accent. I think it was neat how her legend has been mentioned as early as the start of season 5. I included Stygian in the poll as well, as I expect he's got some fans. While he's technically not one of the pillars, he is responsible for their existence, and, indirectly, the Elements of Harmony too. So, who is your favorite, and why?
  12. Rainbow Dash was not out of character in "2 4 6 Greaaat". Rainbow isn't into cheer leading mostly because she sees it as to girly but just cheering for a friend is different. She mostly only knows cheering from her parents when they were cheering from the sidelines and what she knows by them is just the basics, so just teaching Fluttershy the basics of cheering is for the sidelines. Even in season 4 "Rainbow Falls" yes Twilght and Pinkie were wearing cheerleader outfits and were cheering for Ponyville but still they were just cheering not cheer leading, even with those outfits. Rainbow also looked uncomfortable when the 2 cheerleaders for Cloudsdale were cheering around her she only smiled a little for those 2 before she returned to the Ponyville team. Rainbow Dash is a tomboy being into sports, but not the cheerleaders and doesn't pay attention and/or as she said in "2 4 6 Greaaat" ponies get snacks during it. In season 3 "Games Ponies Play" is the ONLY time she was in fact cheer leading, but it was Twilight that came up with the routine and Rainbow had to go with it and had put on the act to get the Crystal Empire to host the Equestria Games so they feel "the crushing wave of disappointment" that she felt when Cloudsdale lost out of hosting. She never has been interested into cheer leading aside from that and that was just to get the Crystal Empire to host the games, and only the basics of cheering is what she really knows in general, but knowing nothing about the overall process of cheer leading makes sense.
  13. In "The Cutie Re-Mark (Part 2)" the final alternate future of the desolate wasteland, could Celestia have become Daybreaker causing it, or could Ahuizotl have finshed the ring ceremony from Daring Don't to "unleash 800 years of unrelenting sweltering heat"?
  14. In season 7 episode 3 we heard a tale about Grogar. Forshadowing? Finale? What do you guys think?
  15. Note: This episode's scheduled to air on Treehouse TV (Canada) the morning of Sunday, October 15 at 10:55am EST. It'll air on Discovery Family October 21 at 11:30am EST. Pinkie Pie suggests that she go to get the other ponies to come help but the proud Prince and Yaks refuse." *I hunch it'll air June 17. This episode will continue the trend from Treehouse TV starting last Sunday with Fluttershy Leans In: Two episodes will air per week, one on Saturday, one on Sunday (and could air the finale early in the summer), while Discovery Family will air one per week. More than likely due to the Movie coming out in October. The airing timing isn't consistent, so if you plan to watch the episode via the stream, arrive early. When someone uploads the episodes on YT and DailyMotion, I'll link them to you here. A poll will be published after it airs. 17. Note: Although the U.S. won't air it till June 3, Canada's Treehouse TV will air this Sunday morning. Be prepared for spoilers! Title: Honest Apple Air Date (Canada/Treehouse TV): May 14, 2017 Air Date (U.S./Discovery Family): June 3, 2017 Writer: Kevin Lappin Summary: "When Rarity asks Applejack to be a judge in a fashion show, Applejack learns that an opinion, however honest, can still be hurtful." This episode will continue the trend from Treehouse TV starting last Sunday with Fluttershy Leans In: Two episodes will air per week, one on Saturday, one on Sunday (and could air the finale early in the summer), while Discovery Family will air one per week. More than likely due to the Movie coming out in October. Each episode airs sometime between 11 and 11:30am EST, but its timing isn't completely consistent. When someone uploads the episodes on YT and DailyMotion, I'll link them to you here. A poll will be published after it airs. Poll's up! Canadian Airing Streams (links courtesy of EQD): Otaku Brawler (the one I watched Leans In) Brony Network Lemonwalnut DailyMotion: YT: coming soon.
  18. Note: Although the U.S. won't air it till next week, Canada aired this episode today. Be prepared for spoilers! Title: Fluttershy Leans In Air Date (Canada): April 30, 2017 Air Date (U.S.): May 6, 2017 Writer: Gillian M. Berrow Summary: "Fluttershy is determined to make her career dreams come true with the help of some very special ponies. But when her true vision is not being executed properly, she must find a way to stand up and fight for her ideas." Canada aired this episode earlier this morning. For those who want to see it early, I'm linking to the video (the audio's a little fuzzy, though):
  19. Sunset asking that Starlight is Twilight's student in "Mirror Magic" and Starlight saying yes indicates that this takes place before season 7. Do to the fact that Starlight was not in "Dungeons and Discord" could say after the mane 6 left to Yakyakistan Starlight went with Sunset to the EQG world and might have been a little confused about the difference between a friendship mission and a "overnight goodwill tour", and after returning being there for a few days she might have gotten a habit of using the EQG dialog such as hand which would explain why Starlight used the word hand twice in "Every Little Thing She Does". Which would make sense having "Mirror Magic" take place between "Dungeons and Discord" and "Every Little Thing She Does".
  20. Having Starlight and Trixie together in the movie means it has to take pace after "No Second Prances" sense that's the first time they met. Not having the Royal Guard would explain why Celestia had Flash Magnus be the new drill sargent after season 7. Having it take place then would also explain why the changelings and the Pillers of Equestria were not in the movie but I'm not sure about the yaks but if the movie takes place after "No Second Prances" the mane 6 haven't been to Yakyakistan yet, unless you count Pinkie kinda. But griffins probably wouldn't want to help, and sense Ember just became Dragon Lord she probably needs to impose her rule, and that I don't think the ponies would trust all the dragons yet to listen to Ember. As for the map expanding, remember the map was broken after "The Cutie Re-Mark", which would also explain why it took so long and that Mount Aris needed to be repaired and the new train station there. As for Twilight saying "This happened while we were gone?" could be when they went after the Pony of Shadows instead of the Storm King. Why Sandbar mentioned The Storm King but not Queen Chrysalis nor the Pony of Shadows is that no pony would probably know that Chrysalis replaced the mane 6, the princesses, etc and that the Pony of Shadows never appeared in public, and why Apple Bloom was recapping the movie in "surf and/or Turf" was because The Storm King was what directly affected the hippogriffs. This I the best I can do saying it takes place between season 6 episodes 6-7 and explaining how. But there is one thing that contradicts all of this unless you can help me, the new throne room, it is possible they were working on a new throne room for a while and was finished in the movie in a different part of the castle and was going to turn the old throne room into something else but for what happened to the new one in the movie they had to go back to the old one while that was being repaired, but the whole of Canterlot got repaired when they retuned all the magic at the end of the movie? Write below if you can think of any reason why Celestia and Luna would still be using the old throne room until season 8.
  21. This is just an educated guess as to where Starlight’s character development is going and to what her group of friends should be called.

  24. After months of waiting and nothing but 5 episode theme dvd’s, Shout Factory will at last be releasing S7 on dvd October 9th. Unfortunately, It looks like they will be using a similar design to the S6 dvd cover and Starlight will be snubbed once again. On the bright side, at least we will be able to add the Season Seven episodes to our collection just in time for Season Eight to end. https://www.equestriadaily.com/2018/07/season-7-dvd-now-listed-on-amazon.html
  25. A good or average as an FIM season can be, every one of them room for improvement. Season 7 is no exception. Despite being a really good season, Season 8 is capable of fixing or doing at least one thing better than last year and has done that so far. So, my question to you is this: Can you please name me at least one current improvement from S7 and explain why? From me, despite Season 8 not being as as good as Season 7 so far, it improved from Season 7 in at least six components. The dialogue is much more organic, especially since Grannies Gone Wild. Most of the episodes this season are very dialogue-driven, so if you're going to make it good, best to tidy up the lines. Most of the dialogue is really crisp, emotive, and full of personality. Sometimes you'll get a variety of starts, stops, pauses, and fragments. The characters really play off with one another, particularly with the snark and occasional teasing. It's like S8 took one of Shadow Play's biggest strengths — its dialogue — and expanded upon it. Spike has a more inclusive role. Yes, he was good in S7, too, but for the most part, he was placed to the side unless the story demanded it. Here, he's a lot more involved with more appearances. Additionally, his snarky side, which we saw a lot in S1 and 2 before mostly disappearing since, returned, and many of his lines add punch to the humor. Speaking of humor, the comedy is extremely sharp. There are a lot of fantastic jokes this season. Some off the top of my head include: Ocellus disguising herself as Rarity and fooling Fluttershy in the process. Starlight slyly telling TS she's not a "princess" princess, resulting in Twilight deadpanning a "Thanks." Luna getting cross at Celestia for raising the sun during the nighttime play. Sunburst flopping the gate with a deadpanned expression, causing the PA system to constantly blare out, "Welcome to Sire's Hollow." Stellar Flare's snark. Discord throwing shade at the greeting-card industry for commercializing Valentine's Day. Spike teasing Discord. Gallus: "Leave them hanging?" Spike conducting the Dragon Pledge to Twilight's students. The "Your mom" joke. Just about every line by the Mean Six. The exposition, one of FIM's bigger weaknesses as a whole, feels much better hidden. For some examples: Chrysalis recapped why she's wandering around in the Everfree Forest by herself, but the episode cleverly disguises it by having her talk to pictures she took of the RM6 with a crazed lust in her attitude. The RM7 hide it, too, thanks to previous tension and playing off with each other. Break Down uses Spike and Big Mac to explain why Sugar Belle and Hearts & Hooves Day matter to BM so much, but the dialogue isn't one straight line and sometimes interrupted by tangents and jokes. Sugar Belle's explanation related to her cousin is word for word from Spike's guess earlier, turning the telling into a well-done joke. Grannies Gone Wild's exposition very early is very comedy-driven with some classic slapstick. Because the exposition and tone didn't take itself so seriously, the jokes stand out. Pinkie's characterization feels a lot more consistent. Out of the Mane 8 last year, Pinkie was at the bottom of my list, because she looked really dumb in Rock Solid Friendship and Secrets & Pies. Here, she's a lot more solid, thanks to her terrible first impression of Mudbriar, showing to be a responsible teacher in Marks for Effort, and a kid-like joy in The Mean Six while also defending a frightened FS to Twilight (not knowing it was Snarkle previously). The episode quality in the first half is more consistent. While it doesn't have the highs of Glideance and TPP, it doesn't have the lows of Hard to Say Anything, either. When they're good, they're really good, and the less-than-good episodes are few in between. It's the most consistent first half of the series.
