  1. Yup, here we go again. https://www.deviantart.com/cloudmistdragon/art/King-Sombra-is-Discord-s-Creation-Fan-Theory-818804040 Except this time...it's not just about him not being dead. Overture I think it’s safe to say that the series finale to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was not what either followers or skeptics of my past two theories on King Sombra were expecting. On one hand, to the dismay of many Sombra fans, Sombra did not appear in any of the final episodes. However, on the other hand, I only had to make minor updates to my previous theory in contrast to the major ones I initially expected to have to make. Though it did initially contain some inaccuracies that I had to correct, the final episodes, despite lacking Sombra, actually provided more evidence that points to my theory being on the right track. You should already know just from the title that this theory will focus on a different subject than the first two, but it is a subject that ties directly back to the notion that our shadow king will never be truly gone, since there is no way to deny now that Sombra’s apparent immortality has something to do with Discord. One may ask though, what is the point of making another theory now? The show is over, right? As I’ve discussed before, there is very much still purpose in discussing theories and possibilities, as not only did the show leave much to speculate and answer for ourselves, but the MLP franchise itself is far from over. Furthermore, the Kojima-style storytelling of “everything’s a lie” that the first of the final three episodes went with feels intended to motivate us to do our own digging to find the truth for ourselves. So let’s get right in… Discord’s Powers The things we are told about the show’s biggest plot twist, the biggest lie that completely went against what most fans were expecting, that do get confirmed to us by the show itself are Grogar being Discord, Discord being the one who brought the villains back as a way to test Twilight Sparkle, and most notably in relation to this theory, Discord being the one who “resurrected” King Sombra. Yes, as you may have noticed, I am still maintaining my habit of putting “resurrected” in quotations because there is so much about Discord’s “power of resurrection” that demands scrutiny. If he can just bring the dead back to life, why didn’t he ever do it before? If he always had that kind of power, it’s hard to believe that even the Elements of Harmony could’ve brought him down in his days as a villain. Not only that, but take note of the way he brought Sombra back in The Beginning of the End. He didn’t use his chaos magic, but a symbol on the ground with a shape similar to that of Sombra’s dark crystals. The color of the symbol on the ground in this scene was blue too, while Discord’s magic is normally yellow. In Twilight’s Kingdom, when his magic gets sucked out by Tirek, the color of his magic is...black, the color of shadow. Interestingly, even while Discord was pretending to be Grogar, his magic still maintained a color of yellow...in addition to an aura of shadow. When Discord’s magic was absorbed by Grogar’s Bell, the magic’s color was yellow and black. And what kind of magic did Discord use to teleport the villains to his lair? Shadow magic. Bearing these facts in mind, it seems much more likely that what Discord used to bring Sombra back wasn’t “the power of resurrection”, but the power of darkness. What difference does it make? A huge one. If Discord could not tap the power of the forces of darkness, he couldn’t possibly have been able to impersonate Grogar. He didn’t just summon Tirek and Cozy Glow straight from Tartarus, he was also able to utilize Grogar’s Crystal Ball to its full effect, recreating images of the time where Grogar’s monsters roamed Equestria and even used Grogar’s Bell to reclaim his chaos magic. And it’s not just Discord either who must know how to use dark magic to recreate the past. In fact, it’s even been proven in the show that not only do Celestia and Twilight have the ability to use dark magic, but alicorn magic, in Princess Twilight Sparkle, takes the form of Sombra’s trademark green and purple magic when used on the potion Twilight needs to drink to see the past. Almost every instance of dark magic in the show is faithful to a central theme of recreating the past and both casting and dispelling illusions of fear. Yet not one spell in the show, dark magic, alicorn magic, or otherwise, has ever been used to call back a creature from the dead… One more fact we know that would definitely be consistent with my theory that it was shadow magic that was used to bring Sombra back, not “resurrection magic”, is the fact that Grogar was a real creature, not a character that Discord made up, as confirmed by the show. Every image Discord showed in the Crystal Ball was a depiction of a real object or a real event that happened in the past, and one of those events was Grogar summoning monsters from the dark to terrorize Equestria. Discord even vows to send Sombra back to the darkness he came from if he does not comply with his deal… Yeah, I do believe at this point it’s safe to say that it’s much more likely that Sombra’s return was the result of him being called back from the shadows, not “resurrected from the dead”. Occam’s Razor would agree, the former solution is the much simpler one and much more likely to be the correct one. Regardless of how Sombra came back though, it’s only scratching the surface of the wealth of clues we are given in the show that things are not what they appear to be. To reiterate, we are flat-out told by the show that everything we were made to believe involving the mess with Sombra returning and trying to take over Equestria was a lie...but we are not told in-depth exactly how everything was a lie. That’s where the next part of my theory comes in… King Sombra is Discord’s Agent Again, let’s begin with what the show confirmed. It was actually Discord who brought King Sombra back, and thus, he was the one who sent Sombra to the Crystal Empire to attempt to take it over as a way to test Twilight and her friends. Seems straightforward enough. So what is the reason for wanting more details on what exactly happened? Honestly, I’d have trouble only coming up with one. First of all, Discord’s scheme of only sending one villain to test Twilight and her friends, followed by three, only makes sense if he knows in advance that Sombra will not submit to him. Though anyone could predict that the villains would need time to learn how to work together, only someone who knows Sombra well enough could predict that he wouldn’t go along with the plan. And as far as the show tells us, Discord does not know Sombra well...at least as we are told. If we only go by what we are shown in the show, we are left to see that Discord sent Sombra to the Crystal Empire, right after he vowed to “destroy anypony who got in his way”, unsupervised. What would Discord have done had Sombra actually killed someone? The scene where he talks to Twilight and her friends in the castle not only proves that he was not constantly monitoring Sombra, but also makes it very likely that he knew Sombra would destroy the Tree of Harmony. After all, it is in this scene where he expresses his disdain over Twilight and her friends resolving to defeat Sombra with the Elements of Harmony rather than their own strength. Don’t forget either how he revealed his agenda was to test them...and this also isn’t the only time Discord has been hinted to have an agenda against the Tree… Going back to Princess Twilight Sparkle again, Discord revealed at the end that he was responsible for the Tree of Harmony’s rot, back in the time when he was a villain. However, after he got reformed, why did he do nothing to stop it despite the fact that the Tree’s life was in jeopardy? The answer can very easily be inferred as him just wanting to test Twilight and have fun as always...but is that really all? Remember that the Tree has been revealed to be not just a living thing, but a conscious being since What Lies Beneath. Even Discord at his worst has never killed anyone or put their lives at risk, so if we only go by what we are told by the show, it is very uncharacteristic of him to feel no remorse for not only putting the lives of innocent civilians in danger, but also getting a conscious being killed by bringing Sombra back. Does all of this mean that I believe that Discord used Sombra to kill the Tree without getting his hands dirty and in turn, used the Mane 6 to kill Sombra to cover his tracks, all without showing regard for the innocent lives of anybody who may have gotten caught in the crossfire? The answer...is no. Yes, despite how damning the evidence against Discord may seem, there is a way for him to be innocent. Hanlon’s Razor, always assume incompetence before malice. In my second King Sombra theory, you may remember a part where I talked about Sombra being sent to the Tree of Harmony as part of his destiny, meaning that the powers that be were responsible for the Tree’s destruction, not Discord. If it was the Tree that allowed itself to be destroyed so that it could adapt to a new form Equestria needed and help the Mane 6 realize that they didn’t need the Elements, Discord would be absolved of killing the Tree. That is the only way for him to be innocent if he is Sombra’s “mastermind”. The quotations should be enough to tell you that I don’t believe Sombra is Discord’s puppet, but his accomplice. One admittedly unsettling implication of The Ending of the End, that I, like many, hope and believe was unintended, was that Discord was using the villains as cogs to be thrown away and destroyed before they could have a chance to change their ways. I myself have no clue why Discord would not just state that he wanted to reform the villains, since not only would that make him look better, it would also make much more sense with what the show implied prior. Think back to how much Discord emphasized as Grogar the importance of working together. He never imagined that Tirek, Cozy Glow, and Chrysalis would ever use Grogar’s Bell against him, and it was the quest for the bell that almost got them to discover the magic of friendship. And even if the bell wasn’t used on him, wouldn’t the villains find out anyway that Discord was Grogar? After all, Discord would never release Grogar’s magic or use the bell to steal magic from innocent creatures. So that only leaves Sombra. Why did he seemingly never get a chance to change his ways? This goes back to what I believe, Discord and Sombra were working together. Think of the two’s relationship this way, and I’ll explain why this way makes the most sense. What if before Discord made his grand entrance as Grogar, he and Sombra talked over what they were going to do ahead of time? Sombra was the last to show up at the first meeting of the villains, and he was the only one who could’ve seen Grogar’s true form in the cave. Notice how when Discord draws the circle with the stick, the stick isn’t being levitated with magic, implying that Discord is holding it by hand. This makes it likely that Discord was not even in his Grogar disguise yet, as he had to levitate objects with his horns as Grogar. Also imagine if Sombra didn’t know Discord was Grogar. What chance would he have had to change his ways if Discord’s plan was to redeem the villains as is implied? Unless Discord’s idea of reforming Sombra was manipulating him to potentially kill ponies before getting himself blown up again. It doesn’t make any sense unless you consider the fact that Discord and Sombra could have very easily set everything up together. Also consider how torn up Twilight was in The Ending of the End, lamenting over how, in her own words, the victory she and her friends had against Sombra was “all a lie”. Keep in mind that they already knew beforehand that Discord could’ve stopped Sombra any time he wanted, so how does simply being reminded of their “very good-looking safety net” discourage them? The truth of Discord being the one who brought Sombra back leading Twilight to doubt herself only makes sense...if she is able to sense that Sombra was in on Discord’s plan. Doesn’t this, however, contradict Discord’s assertment that the fight was real and Sombra’s behavior throughout The Beginning of the End that seemed too good for an act? It does not, it’s consistent with my line of reasoning that Sombra was not some puppet being manipulated. I fully believe that he did what Discord told him to do for a goal of his own, to prove that he was the strongest being in Equestria, something he boasted about to Twilight and her friends. He could only prove such a thing by defeating them on an even playing field. That would explain perfectly why he didn’t use mind control on them and gave them a chance to defeat him instead of killing them when he had them trapped. He wanted them to escape and face him again, which is why he was so happy when he saw them enter the throne room… This would also explain how Discord’s plan would’ve given Sombra a chance to redeem himself as well. Discord must have known that the only way Sombra could’ve learned the power of friendship was through experiencing it for himself and realizing that it was indestructible. He couldn’t have learned this through the Elements being used on him, and while I still do not believe Discord instructed Sombra to destroy the Tree, Discord must have known that the Tree’s destruction was an inevitable part of Twilight’s destiny. After all, Twilight could not have fulfilled her destiny had she not realized that the Elements were never her true power. This also comes back to the focal topic of my last two theories...Discord’s plan to reform Sombra only makes sense if Sombra is not dead, but an immortal shadow. This tie-in is not how I intend to conclude everything though, since I have only set up the focal topic for this theory, our feature presentation… King Sombra is Discord’s Creation Both Discord and King Sombra have always been characters shrouded in mystery. At first glance, these two characters don’t seem to have much in common. A wacky, talkative, incorrigible master of chaos and an enigmatic, stoic, calculating master of shadows. At least that’s how it was before The Beginning of the End, where Sombra’s new persona actually displayed traits reminiscent of Discord, being much more vain, voluble, and giddy. “Coincidentally”, this complete retcon of his old personality from the Season 3 premiere happens right after Discord brings him back… Returning to the topic of mystery, recall that in the entirety of the show’s run, we are never even given so much of a hint as to what Discord or Sombra’s origins are. This can be said about all the other villains too, but what sets these two apart from all the other villains is that they were the only two to engage with Celestia and Luna before they had the Elements of Harmony. And it was only because of these two that the Elements were ultimately destroyed. Though the connection is difficult to doubt, it is also difficult to tell the exact ordering of events between these four. Logically, one would assume that Celestia and Luna fought Sombra first, since they didn’t use the Elements on him in the flashback. But again, The Beginning of the End has brought a new question to the table. If Sombra was also interested in taking over all of Equestria, not just the Crystal Empire, why didn’t he do so before? What if he and Discord were both putting ponies under their reign of terror at the same time? After all, what else could have been stopping Sombra if he didn’t know of Celestia, Luna, and Discord’s strength? We have seen proof in the show that Discord is stronger than Sombra, in the sense that he can just click his fingers and be done with him, so it could be that Sombra just didn’t want to fight a losing battle...but how would he know that? And on the other side, what would be stopping Discord from taking Sombra out of the picture so that he could have the Crystal Empire to himself too? One would initially presume that all this can be easily answered by Discord not showing up in Equestria to wreak havoc until after Sombra was banished, but it can not. In order for the timeline to make sense, Discord needs a window of opportunity to know Sombra personally, or else he would not have a spell on hand that could bring him back. Besides what I already discussed, the unlikelihood of Discord just having the power to resurrect any pony he pleases, more evidence that his spell is only meant to revive Sombra specifically is the symbol on the ground that appears to be two of Sombra’s jagged crystals. Even more glaring evidence that I feel seals the deal is something I also already discussed in my previous theory, the center of the circle showing that there is something buried underneath. Most likely, what has been planted there is a seed. And who once tried to plant seeds underground as a way to destroy the Tree of Harmony? Discord. No pun intended, this is where everything comes full circle to the root...that seed is King Sombra. To expand even more on points I already made in my previous theory, I discussed then that both Sombra’s true nature and ultimate destiny were intertwined with the Tree of Harmony. Last time though, I did not discuss the possibility of him being born from a magical seed. I knew then that the Tree was also created from a magical seed, but I still chose to save the point for a later time, since then, we were still under the impression that it was Grogar, not Discord, who brought Sombra back. However, the reveal of it actually being Discord in the final episodes changes everything, as while we currently know nothing about Grogar, we know more than enough about Discord to see what could really be going on. After all, if Sombra knew that Grogar was actually Discord when he called him “the father of monsters”, that would make all too much sense... I’ve also gone over enough similarities between the Tree of Harmony and Sombra to make my point that the hint of a connection between them simply can’t just be attributed to coincidence. The more important matter now is Discord. We never learned where he got the Plunder Seeds he used against the Tree from. The most likely explanation is that he just created them with his magic, but what would that say for Sombra? Discord is shown using the power to bring inanimate objects to life throughout the show, granting them the ability to talk and move, but he has never been shown to have the power to give these inanimate objects a personality or anything that would lead to us believe they have an independent soul. In the end of The Break Up Break Down, he is shown gawking at Spike for acting as if a skeleton pony card he brought to life was anything more than a fictional character, describing her as “imaginary”. It is clear that this is not the way he could’ve given life to Sombra, however, that is not to say that Sombra was always a seed… Remember what I talked about in my last theory, how Sombra’s physical form and spirit form could be separate? And how in this theory, I’ve talked about Discord having the ability to call back creatures from the shadows? The easiest explanation we have right now for how Discord could have created Sombra is through contacting his spirit from the shadows and putting him inside a seed, creating him as a weapon to destroy the Tree. This explanation is not only the simplest, but also the most consistent, as it ties into the show canon’s description of Sombra being a former unicorn, what Jim Miller has said about Sombra being a ghost, and what I’ve said about him being a shadow in a body of crystal finding a way to truly return to life. One question this explanation would beg though is that if Sombra was created by Discord to destroy the Tree, why did he not destroy it then? Why was Discord forced to use Plunder Seeds instead? At first, it seems tricky, but the answer is actually in plain sight. Discord originally wanted to use Sombra because a living weapon would be more effective against the Tree than a nonliving weapon...but what if Sombra refused his commands? Since the Elements failed to defeat him, the case could be that he can’t be defeated by the Elements, but Discord certainly can. Not knowing that Celestia and Luna had the power in themselves to defeat him, he left Discord to get rid of the Tree himself. Since Discord’s plan also involved getting Celestia and Luna out of the way, it would make perfect sense with this line of reasoning for Sombra to disobey Discord and go off on his own. It seems that everything has finally come together in a niche...yet there is still one thing lacking. Hardcore evidence. Though it all fits logically, the appearance of a seed being planted in the middle of the circle used to call back Sombra is the most convincing piece of evidence to support the veracity of this theory. Not implying that it’s the only piece of evidence, and I feel that combined with all the evidence that points to Sombra having some kind of connection to the Tree of Harmony in addition to all the evidence that points to him having a connection to Discord, this theory stands on solid ground. However, I feel there is one stone we have yet to turn… In The Ending of the End, there are two very noteworthy parts that you wouldn’t think would demand further analysis, but are actually very telling. The first is the part where the Windigos return. What makes them worth discussing is not what happens with them in the actual episode, but the confirmation of their existence, which means more for this theory than you would think. If they were real all this time, you would think that the reason King Sombra never had to deal with them is because of the Crystal Heart...however, in both the alternate universe shown in The Cutie Re-mark and in his siege on Equestria in The Beginning of the End, he didn’t cause the Windigos to come back despite spreading his reign of fear and terror outside the Empire. It’s confirmed that the cause of the Windigos returning is animosity, hate among the ponies...yet Celestia described Sombra’s return in The Crystal Empire as hatred and fear taking hold. What banishes the Windigos is unity...which is ironically what Sombra does when he puts the ponies under his mind control. Though it’s through evil, he unites them and turns them into a formidable force. This leads right into the other noteworthy part, Twilight’s speech to the villains about how “there will always be darkness in the world, but there will always be those who find the light”. The discussion this part demands will not be as in-depth, as it is straight-up proof, confirmation from the show of what I talked about at the end of my last theory, the philosophy of Yin-Yang. This is the final part of my previous theory that gets called back to, where I spoke of Sombra being the dark counterpart of the Spirit of the Tree of Harmony, the Yang to its Yin. This final piece of evidence points to Sombra’s apparent connection to the Spirit of the Tree being part of the show’s biggest central theme by far...for the power of unity would be the same as the magic of friendship... Conclusion Though I do wish for this to be my final theory on the subject of King Sombra (after all, Part 3 is never as good), it is obviously out of my control if something else comes up to demand more analysis. I don’t wish to indefinitely create Sombra theories, but I also don’t want to close myself off from any more discussion of him that could be thought-provoking. I can’t deny that I do feel there are still more secrets surrounding this character that have yet to be explored, but that will be for another time. Until then, I would encourage you to do your own research and see what you can find before more evidence comes out in future pieces of MLP media. No matter what happens, long live the shadow king.
  2. DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS FOR SEASON 9 FINALE! ONLY WARNING! So, this is something that I have been giving some thought. We know that Sombra is fairly full of himself and is only out for himself. Nothing in any of his canon appearances really dispute that, and it's really no surprise that he turns down Grogar's offer to form an alliance. Again, we're talking about a pony whose "heart is as black as night" with little to no remorse present., and has shown himself fully capable of waging war. That said...what if King Sombra actually knew that Grogar was in fact really Discord, or at least knew something was off? Yes, there's nothing that explicitly supports that as fact, but at the same time Sombra's mannerisms toward the ram made me think a little. Do you remember just how dismissive he was towards Grogar going by his facial expressions? "I too have heard of the first Emperor of Equestria. The "father of monsters."" Of course, that look he gave Grogar can mean many things, but for the sake of argument, let's consider that "father of monsters" was a sort of slander, knowing that this was the chaotic trickster all along and not the first Emperor of Equestria. Or at least; he suspected something was off. In any case, my main point is that Sombra was not impressed or intimidated like the other three were. Again, he's full of himself and he's shown himself able to wage war so his over-confidence is most likely here, but I also like to think that he knew something was off with the old goat and wanted no part of an alliance. Sombra has shown himself to be very intelligent, so the possibility is there. That said, I realize this is a long shot, but it's an idea I wanted to share. :p
  3. Just who are the Umbrum; you ask? Well, they happen to be these pieces of nightmare fuel that are Sombra's race; if you believe the comics. I had initially avoided making a fan club dedicated to them as there seemed to be a lack of fanart; but thankfully that seems to be changing. So please; share away, have fun, and forum rules apply! Just imagine the umbrum as part of Sombra's army. <3
  4. Most royals presented in the show, if I'm missing anyone please let me know(I explain the lack of Shining Armor below). What I now look back on and find interesting is that this whole idea started due to a 2016 show adapted from a 1992 work, who's music (the 2016 one's) sparked the inspiration. This was done on...basically an A4 fax paper with HB pencils. Yeah.... List of characters and their parallel poser [1-2] Poisoned Lovers (Prince Blue Dream & Princess Golden Dream according to the wiki) [3-4] Celestia & Luna [5-6] Cadence & Flurry [7-8] The Saddle Arabia delegates (Haakim & Amira, or "Ruler and Princess" when translated) [9-10] Sombra & Chrysalis [11-12] Rutherford & Tirek [13-14] Duke & Duchess of Maretonia [15-16] Torch & Scorpan [17-19] 3 Founders of Equestria (Princess Platinum, Chancellor Puddinghead, Commander Hurricane) [20-21] King Grover and King Groto [22-24] Ember, Twilight, & Thorax In hindsight, I don't know why I didn't just take one picture of all three of them. [25] Blueblood At first I was going to do EVERY royal from EVERY media from the current gen because I really wanted Princess Amore and Princess Parabola to pose together. But then I found out there's a King Leo (so somehow I'd have to fit a massive pool of water in there), Princess Platinum's dad (King Bullion), I didn't know whether to include (the fictional) Queen Trottingham, I wondered if that one time Trixie was a queen in the comics would that count, apparently they designed Tirek's mom and dad who were royals too, and I'd still need to find space for the Storm King...it wasn't happening. I had no clue Shining Armor was a prince until recently. When I made a list of royalties I was thinking of those who acted in government. Rule makers, citizen commanders, foreign relation stuff. Shining Armor....commands the royal guard...which is below top level royalties, which is why I didn't think he was a prince. I mean even now he mostly just raises Flurry, I don't see him in big politcal matters (appearances don't count.) And I'm not sure of Pinkie's "official" title was serious in the Yak episode, it was way to late to put her in anyhow. Ugh man originally I had like 11 paragraphs & pictures of thought process/work because these characters were set up from scratch, so planning their positions and pose took 10 fold the time to actually draw them. Like these characters used pose refrences, but this whole set up didn't essentially pardoy something else. I didn't finish it but I did want to include the pics though: This took way too much time, and I overthought this to a useless extent. Definitely NOT going to do numerous character drawings for a while, I've been craving one-two character close drawings again, ones where I can actually add detail and style.
  5. What are your thoughts on the number of redemptions in the show? not just of villains, but of antagonists too ("minor" opposition type characters like garble, trixie or diamond dogs who don't threaten all of equestria but still act as a minor villain) Do you think there's too much redemption, not enough, ect? Do you think the amount of redemptions has increased from s1 as the shows gone on, stayed the same, ect.?
  6. Does anyone else feel like Sombra should make a comeback? He got defeated pretty early in my opinion. A little too early..
  7. It's been a month since I've started doing a daily drawing. And Oh Boy, it's been a blast. I didn't liked it at first, but little by little I think I became better... Maybe. It all started with this "thing" which I didn't take too seriously, but it was my first pony in a while. Close to 5 years without even touching a pen to draw. It hurted. Then I did this. I like this style better. It reminds me about those old joke magazines like MAD. I tried to replicate the last drawing's style, but didn't work. Her face is derpy without the cute. I actually like this Octavia, but i have to admit, the lightning doesn't make sense. It's a problem I'm struggle with even today, but sooner or later I'll overcome such flaws. Aaand, here I began to make those horrible intrusive text highlights. They take a lot of space and later when it's not 22 days anymore, it became useless. With this one I took a little risk. I like the colors, but they're oversaturated. Here's when I tried to do a background that wasn't just clouds or two colors. I didn't detailed that much, but I liked it when I did it. Today, not so much, but I kinda have respect to it.Was the first time that I tried to do a good shading... "good" xD well, it's not that bad. With this one, I tried an old, OLD comic book style which I didn't know how to do. It turned out decent, but it's nothing compared with other styles. I kinda like it even today though. This Luna brings me issues. I liked the concept, but the final results are... Special. The perspective is so messy, oh goodness. This I don't like. Not at all. Moving on! This was the first one that I really liked how it turned out. I like the highlights, the background is okay, and the lineart is charming. It was the best I did since the beginning imo. Besides, Dashie with Tank is an idea that I'd love to do more often. This was the time that I've started to do certain things, like the mane style, the shadows and highlights, and more "dynamic" poses. They're still stiffy, but here I noticed that I was improving after a long time. ... And I watch this one, and I laugh. Oh god, look at the expression, the proportions, the background! I thought it was ok, but now I realize that it wasn't that good as I expected xD It's not terrible, and it's better than the others, but still, it's not as good as the next ones, thankfully. That's a good sign. I like to mess with the ways of doing the magic effect. This one is... weird. The style is weird, the expressions are weird, and even the shading is. I kinda, sorta, maybe like it, but I feel ashamed every time I look at it well, it was more than 2 weeks ago. I think I've improved. Maybe. Now, this is one of my personal favourites. This is when I really liked how it was turning out, and I can't find any major flaws besides Luna's face. But even still, I think it's funny and doesn't ruin the whole image. Here's when my shading started to look good. I mess up sometimes, but I've learned my lesson since the Crusaders one. Oh geez... Welp, this was the image when all my mane styles started to be like silk... Not really, but I love Celestia's. And this one... I messed up with the shading in a couple of ponys, specially in Rarity, but I LOVE the feeling I receive from it. It reminds me about those promotional posters from movie theaters. And I love how Sunset, Pinkie, Starlight and Twilight look. With this one I tried to do a "good" background, but... Well, it's not that bad, but the pony proportions are messy, and the color is oversaturated again. I try to improve that even today. Keep it light and smooth, Eifie. Don't over do it. This one was simple. Notice the sense of movement and the way the ponys point to the next part of the text like they're dancing. They point to each other in a way, and I think it's fun. I really like to do Pinkie's mane, it's so messy and weird Even when I like the Fluttercord idea, I don't really like this one that much. The background is weird, and I could do the characters better. even though, I like the feeling it emanates. what I enjoy the most are Discord's wings. This one was fun to do. I love the Crusaders, and I enjoy doing them whenever I can. Even if the "18 days" image was just... Ugh. It's my least favourite. But this one redeemes that, right? (Redeemes? That's how you spell it? English is not my mother language, so don't mind me D: ). Oh my. The Apple-Pie family is tricky, but certainly fun. My thing is doing portrait drawings, and the style is weird but charming to me, haha! (Marble's mane is my favourite. Maud's expression is priceless.). And this one right there is special. Why? It was the first one that I send to Equestria Daily. And it was published. I won't lie to you, I was happy the rest of the day after I noticed that. Then Sethisto started to notice my drawings, and ever since many more of them were published on the page. I'm truly glad of that. I'm willing to do so much more because I have a little more feedback. The brony community is the best. Oh, and another one following the trend of the "13 days" one. Notice how now they're more balanced. Now is Twilight who has her eyes open, and the rest has them closed. She really is the princess of friendship, and I'd love to do more tributes about this fact. Kinda reminds me about the PPG. I think this one is my favourite. The shading is the best 've done in my opinion, and the message is fun. Celestia is used to be captured, so we don't have to worry. Some magical thing will save the day at the end of the afternoon. Should i say i really like the manes? This has a special place in my heart. Ember looks good, and the lightning is divine. (Sounds bad when it's my own drawing. I'm sorry! ) This one is a close second because the colors. This one is charming, and it's okay, but not of my favourites. I think I messed un a bit with the background, and the proportions are a little bit off. And Oh MY, what happenned to Sunburst's beard? That's not right! Besides Starlight's magic is light blue. Whoops. (Oh, you noticed the tea cup? Trixie approves. And the prediction came true, Spike and her shared a moment in the season premiere!). This was fun to do, but MY GOODNESS it take a lot of time, and it isn't even that great. The shading could be better, but that happens when you're on a schedule and try to do so many characters. Don't do that, people! Outside that, it's fun to watch and the illustration looks okay. This was the last one. Was the day before the season premiere, and I couldn't be happier. Notice how I get rid of the intrusive text since the "7 days left" one. I'm so glad about it. The countdown remains in the title, not in the image. And here's some others before and after the episode. The "meme" ones are too fun. I'll do some more this week. The title of this one is "Hiatus was just a nightmare, everypony!". It was published before the episodes aired. Those ones, you know. I hope you like watching them as I love doing them! Twitter! Follow me on dA for more!
  8. It's a shame they killed king Sombra. This dream is impossible now, but i kinda like the idea of all the season's villains united. Well, it's more a tribute for the season 7 villain. I wonder what or who will it be. I hope the new characters are interesting as well. Twitter! deviantArt!
  9. I saw this theory on another website and it doesn't sound unreasonable and makes King Sombra the most evil villain the show has ever had. There are statues of unicorns around the Crystal Empire, and even the jousting armor can be fitted for pegasi, that makes a gruesome amount of sense if Sombra's security system for the Crystal Heart involved a spell to open the way to a tall spire, you don't exactly want to keep around subjects that could circumvent it. As well, depending on what kind of racial traits you want to attribute to earth ponies, their enhanced strength and endurance makes them ideal slave labor, and their nature powers wouldn't do them any good deep undergroud where there's no plants or animals to aid them. Sombra might have committed straight-up genocide against those races within his empire.
  10. Considering the infamous election America is suffering from this year, my brain hatched a pretty stupid idea for a thread. Who would you rather have as one to rule over you and all around you, Queen Chrysalis, or King Sombra? A changeling, or an Umbrum? A parasite, or a most likely possible nutcase?<--- (Sounds familiar, don't it?) Feel free to explain as to why you believe your choice is the best case scenario out of these two worse case scenarios. I see lots of people doing the same for Trump and Clinton, so go right ahead just for the heck of it right here.
  11. Okay, this might be a bit early as it's not even 12am EST, but...it was available on iBooks, so I couldn't resist. And OMG what an issue this was. Just...wow...loved it. <3
  12. Possibly the earliest known race of pony, the Umbrum (the race that King Sombra belonged to) were of once a prosperous yet aggressive race that inhabited the tundra along side there proclaimed enemies known as the Crystal Ponies. Though they may not look like it on the outside, they were made out of red crystal to which they believed crafting this element from there deceased loved ones into useful tools or weapons would be the most honorable thing for those who have passed on. The Umbrum had a society that was so obsessed with perfection that as much as something like incompetence could result in a rather fatal penalty and that any other way of life was considered corruption. This of coarse being one of the leading motivations for them to despise there neighbors enough to result in a great war. After a century of battle they fought themselves to extinction. The commoners were pretty much the lowest rank within the Umbrum's empire. Though they did live further into the tundra than that of there rivals, they didn't require much in attire due to how they can naturally endure the cold better than any other race in Equestria. The common clothes were nothing more than simple robes for there mares, and togas for there stallions. For wives, to show they they were married they would have a specific order of colorful stones worn across there cheeks as the husbands would wear a ring around there horn. Some women in rare cases could be born with wings, but even then there wings were only useful in gliding rather than actually flying like pegasi. _______________________________ I would like to thank Mr. Siansaar for inspiration on putting this picture together. I might even be able to do more with my ideas for the Umbrum and there ways of life.
  13. Here's my headcanon about that book's history. What's yours? I believe the book was created by Discord as one of his contingency plans should he be dethroned. We already saw one of his plans in "Princess Twilight Sparkle", and he probably had more than one. He seems to like complex plans. We also saw him increase in power when the CMC got into a chaotic fight in front of him. Yes, that was probably also because the EOH had been transferred to the Mane 6, but it's possible sufficient chaos surrounding him would have freed him anyway. Inspirarity's rampage was certainly chaotic in nature. I also believe Sombra was a victim of the book and an example of what the book makes its user if left unchecked. Both Sombra and Inspirarity were obsessed with shiny things (gold and jewels for Inspirarity, crystals for Sombra) and only appeared to care about themselves and their own power. Both Sombra's magic and the book's magic were referred to as dark (and note that Discord's chaos magic is literally dark, if Tirek's draining was any indication). Sombra seemed to have the power to create anything he wanted (the weird crystals, the giant staircases, the worst-nightmare door), and that last one makes me think he learned another spell (maybe more than one) from the book.
  14. This is an Idea that has bin buzzing around in my head for months now and I decided that I should try and share it. I don't know if someone has already done something similar, so this idea might be redundant. I was inspired by the war with the Crystal Empire in the season 5 finale. My idea is for a fannon Newsreel video series based off that alternate time line. That will gradually progress with the fortunes of war. My idea isn't fully fleshed out at the moment. If anyone finds this idea interesting. I would be willing to flesh it out with them. Please note I have little video editing skill. All I have to offer is my imagination. Here are a few ideas that I had for the series. 2 main Characters: The first is a stereotypical 1930's news reader and the second character is field reporter with a masculine radio voice. The characters would use slang common for the 40s. Like calling someone "Mac" or asking for "a cup of Joe". Stuff like that. The news reader will report the headlines and give a summery of that particular story, then their will be a cut to the field reporter who will give a more detailed account of that days events Headlines would include stories that would Mirror WW1/WW2 for example "Princes Celestia Rallies Troops", "Cupcake Shortage Strikes Ponyville", "Sombre Lays Siege To Canterlot!". I don't want to get too dark with these headlines. I would prefer to stay as lighthearted as possible. Using the headlines the story will gradually progress, creating it's own lore in the process. I would like to keep each video short, around 5 minutes. To be able to post frequently, say once every week. The video quality will have to be simplified. No animation would be used. Except for a few vectors of the main characters and a few background images and headlines. I would like the video to resemble old black and white film footage. Maybe add some cracks and pops in the audio to go along with it? Well, this is the basic idea. I don't have a story or characters figured out, because I don't know if this will ever take off.
  15. With the release of issue #37 we have the ending of the Siege of the Crystal Empire arc, and I must say...I don't know what to say about it. Considering my general enthusiasm that surprises me, but...yeah; read it for yourself. That ending...wasn't expecting that. Not sure if that is good or bad. XD
  16. Spoilers for -The Siege Of The Crystal Empire -Fiendship is Magic #1 -Reflections okay, so let me start, the comics seem to follow each other (fiendship is magic issue one is my reason to believe this), and if this is true then after Reflections, the ponies found the other reality in which King sombra was good, and this was the pony Celestia fell in love with (yeah, take that you shippers), but in TSOTCE Sombra is brought to the light by his love Radiant Hope, so in the other reality, wouldn't King Sombra be brought to the darkness by her (in a reality in which the mane 6 don't cause the balance, as Sombra is now good in the Reflections world and the events of our world have passed with Radiant, and we all know this is possible to access if the infinite reality theory is present)? if you think about it each action would need to make sense, so Radiant was bad from the start... then became... bad? see, the characters seem to switch from good to bad in that world (as we can see from Princess Luna of the Reflections world having been good for a bit but bad again) and Radiant hope didn't go through a change, if anything she became bad for a bit... so Radiant would have become good? if a timeline was to be made where would she fit into all this? Radiant hope is a key character for Sombra's point of view... would she be the queen of Equestria of the reflections world? but then she would be bad, correct? there are many other things which would be a major change since The Siege Of The Crystal Empire flipping the villian from bad to good. But then again the other world's difference could be something far from the good being bad, as there are other factors which could change this (see the bad mane 6). Another great point is that in the other world the King would have actually been taken to the darkness by Radiant Hope instead of the light maybe, there are almost an infinite amount of comics that could be produced from the simple change. Anypony got any errors with my idea or any bits to add?
  17. I was doodling and this happened My hand slipped.. notice me senpai
  18. So; the finale. I think its pretty clear that the thing that tends to be remembered the most about it, apart from starlight, is the initial timeline where equestria is at war with the crystal empire and sombra. Would you enjoy them finangling things to say that timeline still exists in an alternate timeline? and would you enjoy seeing it revisited? Maybe just in comics form, not in show, but still touched on in some manner? And if so, what angle would you want them to take with it? Still focused on the characters lives just with a more grim outlook? full on adventure? Darker? not darker? comedic? Ect. Anything specifically you'd enjoy seeing?
  19. I wondered, what specific academic subjects would these characters teach, if they were ordinary schoolteachers, instead of being either school principals, librarians, and et cetera ... ? * Principal Celestia * Principal Luna * Principal Cadance * Shining Armor * Principal Cinch * Chrysalis * Sombra * Cheerilee
  20. alternative name - Worst Villain: The Poll: The Experience: The Pre-Sequel: The Novel: The Movie: The Game: The Sequel Who is the worst villain in the series? Only applies to main villains. Anyway, I think it's King Sombra. He just is...boring. He may be the looming threat, but he design is too complicated and he got little to no lines. It was also never really stated just why he wanted to take over the empire, while all of the other villains had valid reasons. Er, anyway, have fun voting. EDIT: Adding in Season Four villains EDIT 2, ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: Adding in Season Five villains
  21. GDocs As "The Cause" nears Sombra's frozen doorstep, the Crystal Empire digs in deep to defend its homeland. The war is almost over, but a few brave ponies are in for a long winter.
  22. I have some proof that sombra will come back, i know he wasn't the best villain but i feel like if they did bring him back he could be made a better villain. but here's my proof for him returning. at the final scene one of the main things separated from sombra was his horn, and earlier in the episode he lost his horn which started spreading dark crystals, allowing him to be more powerful when he could get in there; a back up plan to weaken the shield and the crystal ponies in case cadence didn't fail to keep it up. this may have allowed him to get inside. once their was enough dark crystal he probably could've used his dark magic to reform himself inside. now let's say that horn landed some where he could form crystal, eventually he could reform himself again and come back stronger and more powerful, and its been 3 seasons since his defeat. What do and of you guys think will happen, do you think Sombra will come back???
  23. And now we have part three of the Siege of the Crystal Empire arc. Loving these Sombra-specific covers. <3 So, any thoughts? Gotta say the Chrysalis was quite the star here; even if she wasn't fully part of the issue. And those Umbrum...quite the frightening race they are. >_<
  24. So along with my last wallpaper, I did this on this on the side to the love of our Villeins of the My little ponies from a changling Queen to a Discord and a few we all know and have come to love. Done in all Gimp and just kept super simple in the layout!
  25. I will give the facts we know. • They ALL took place at least 1000 years ago. Sombra happened exactly 1000 years ago, as that was the time that the Crystal Empire was gone. This is also true for Nightmare Moon, as she was in the moon 1000 years. Discord however, has no definite time. • The elements were first used on Discord, then Sombra, then Nightmare Moon. We know the elements were used for the very first time on Discord. It is unconfirmed whether it was used on more ponies than Sombra before or after NMM. Now I will give Explanations that by the information I was given, can be derived as true. • Starswirl was alive during the reign of Discord. He banished the Sirens over 1000 years ago. So he was alive at in some time period between 1000 and 2000 years ago. He was alive at the end of the reign (this is canon). Which means Discords reign must also have ended at the very most, 2000 years ago. 1000<Discord <2000. • Sombra's Tyranny and Nightmare Moon's unsuccesful coup happened within years, perhaps months of each other. Nightmare moons return was in Season 1, and Sombra's Return was in season 3. Which means NMM happened before Sombra... Wait! That cant be right, because Luna was there to banish Sombra. We meet again Plot Holes, we meet again. So lets assume that i misheard Celestia when she said 1000 years ago (refering to Crysal Empire), and actually said over 1000 years ago. •So this is what we have gathered. 2000 years ago > Discord > Sombra > NMM > 1000 years ago. Any Information about Starswirl, the elements, or these events can help us derive some more precise numbers. These are very wide time frames. Does anyone know anything from the Extended Universe perhaps, or simply something I am missing that can whittle down these numbers?
