  1. You know, whenever I look around on the Internet, school, or anywhere else, I see a lot of intolerance when it comes to other people's religious views. Frankly, I think if there were more tolerance and less hatred, this world would be a much better place. Anyways, this thread is dedicated to those of us who are tired of such ignorance, and want to help others learn about certain religious views and (hopefully) clear up any misunderstandings and stereotypes. What I want you to do is state your views, explain a little bit about it (a brief description will do), and try to debunk at least one misunderstanding about your religious view. I also ask that if anyone here disagrees with someone, either PM them, or keep it to yourself, because we don't want any petty flamey/passive aggressive wars here. I'll start us off: I am a Christian, and I believe that my duty in life is to remain loyal to my Lord and also try to be the best person I can be. I have no specific denomination. I just want to apologize for any homophobic, dishonest, oppressive "Christians" you may come across. I assure you that our religion does NOT encourage rudeness, or threatening people with Hell...
  2. This question pertains not to the repercussions of depicting homosexuality. Rather, it pertains to how the fandom would handle one of the ships being canon and not the other. It's no secret that FlutterDash and AppleDash are the two most common ships. The former is supported by people in the opposites attract school of romance, and the latter is supported by "birds of a feather" folks. It represents not just a difference in taste. Both couples are undoubtedly adorable and lovable. But it represents a conflict between two different schools of thought. So, what do you think would happen if one of these became canon? Would the fandom collapse due to the conflict between the two groups? Would there be some kind of civil war? Or would the losing party simply accept the fact, and return to the safety of their fanfics? Let me know your thoughts everypony. Also, stay tuned, as I am going to make a separate thread discussing the philosophical conflict between the two schools of romantic thought which are at work here.
  3. Pez

    Don't hate.

Why hold a grudge everyday you live? Why can't you forgive? Why do you hate, if you can't love and tolerate?
  4. As some of you may already know, I'm an actor. A performer. And I'm currently in the middle of my highschool's play, The Wizard of Oz. In the moment, being onstage and in character, it's really fun. Backstage, however, is a tragically darker tale. Not dramatically so, but enough to seriously discourage me from ever trying out for anything ever again. Our cast is great-- but they all have their flaws, and when they only show you their not-so-lovable side, it's not a fun experience. Often times I'm trying to do what my director told us to do with stress: "Let it slide like water off a duck's back" It works, and I imagine being an actual duck under a waterfall, small and feathery with a setting sun in the distance, turning the sky to a violet-fade-to-magenta hue that shines on fresh green grass fields that stretch on for miles, and I just cuddle with Twilight until I open my eyes and realize I have to go onstage. Sooo, cast call is less than an hour away and still stressed from the previous performance. I'm not gonna die, but I'm not gonna love it either. I find it difficult to tolerate the cast members' behavior backstage, and changing costumes is something I'm not used to, so it's frantic and stressful, especially if something is missing. It's difficult to have foresight and remember which scenes come into play and when, and I have to hold up a tree for like, seven minutes. It's a heavy tree. I freakin' hate it. I want to burn it (it's already dead anyway, might as well). Soooooooooooooooo, yup. I dunno what else to type here, because I can't think straight from all the stress. Hopefully I see you in another entry sometime. I'm not always negative and depressing, I promise.
  5. "Love and Tolerate" It's an interesting motto isn't it? Sounds great when you first hear it, some people try to live by it, most Bronies seem to promote it. I can see how it would be appealing, but I don't think that "tolerance" is the way to go, I would much prefer "Love and Respect." Let me explain, Tolerance at an institutional level can be very dangerous, because it voids judgement. Tolerating something implies that you accept something, and withhold judgement from that thing. If you're disagreeing with something that means you are passing judgement on it, and therefore not tolerating it at all. This can be extremely harmful to a society, especially in the facet of justice, imagine there was a rape case, and at the end of it the judge said "Well we've caught the guy, he's definitely guilty, but seeing as how we've had laws against rape for hundreds of years and haven't eradicated it, we're just going to have to tolerate this sort of thing, it just happens." At this point it seems to be we have a problem with tolerance that people would instantly react against. Most of us tend to think of tolerance as a positive word, but in reality we all define it negatively. Let's say I was visiting your town, and you invite me over, take me out to eat, and give me a nice meal, and room to stay in, and the next day you overhear me speaking to someone else and they ask how the people I stayed with were and I replied "Oh yes, they were very tolerable." Would you feel good? Would you be happy? It's very interesting, we talk about tolerance, but I know of no one that wants to be tolerated, and I know very many people who want to be respected. If you're tolerating something, in the way we typically define it today, you are merely accepting what people say, but you cannot disagree with someone and tolerate them, but you can respect them, and disagree with them So instead of having big debates about what tolerance is or isn't, we should begin asking what it really means to treat another person with respect, because I desperately want to live in a society, where we can respect each other as individuals, even though we may disagree at certain levels of ideas.
  6. Before you get your knickers in a twist, let me just talk about something that's gnawed at me since the beginning of my time in this fandom. Tolerance in itself, isn't a great thing to base a whole culture on. Being that Tolerance is defined as: tol·er·ance ˈtäl(ə)rəns/ noun 1. the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with. "the tolerance of corruption" Now it's a good thing yes, but this fandom prides itself on something that it is so far beyond ascertaining it that it boggles my mind. I would even go as far as to guess that at least 1/3 of Bronies aren't technically, "tolerant". A group so diverse that it can't stand its own diversity? "A house divided cannot stand!" Where am I getting at? Tolerance is good in itself. But wouldn't it be better to pride ourselves in something closer towards the word, "Acceptance?". Where not only do you like them for who or what they are, but you have no care to disagree with it, that it shouldn't matter. Where you can take to heart what you actually preach. All we have is a bunch of people that are just upset with everyone else's standards, and that isn't tolerance last I checked. So why Tolerance? That is my true and final question. Why? Why pick a sub-par term, and not even come close to that benchmark? No, Tolerance isn't bad, mostly everyone has something they disagree with, and a lot of us more than others. I am just curious about IDEALS here, not what the fandom is, but what it SHOULD BE.
  7. I have to do this I have to address the elephant in the room. We bronies who say love and tolerate to ask those who attack and infant is from the outside have little of those qualities when addressing groups within the herd. Instead of hearing "If that is your interest I will not judge." We hear "rule 34 is disgusting, clopfics are horrible, creepy-pastas (I hope I got that right) are ruining the show for me, I hate silicone Twilight." For a fandom that swears to live by love and tolerance where is it down to reach other?
  8. Love and tolerance! The battlecry of Bronies everywhere, and the moral high ground which we argue is but one reason why the show is great. It's covered numerous different times in the various episodes. But there is one place where this message seems to fall short: Villain episodes. Any episode where a villain comes into play, we see the show's so-called message completely shot down. In the Nightmare Moon arc, Nightmare Moon had to be cleansed of the force which corrupted her. But in this case, I will say that this was acceptable. Whatever was influencing her turned her into a tyrant, and with tyrants you need to be forceful. No problem here. I just didn't want anypony saying "What about Nightmare Moon... Derrr." Discord... I have loads to say about him. He is actually going to be granted a thread of his own. But for our purposes here, I only need to point out the what here. The how, why, and should will be elsewhere. But the what is this. For having a different lifestyle and paradigm, he had only two possible paths. He could stay true to himself, and be imprisoned for ever and/or forced to reform, or he could change his own nature. It sure is tolerance to hate somepony for their lifestyle and sense of humour. The Changelings and Chrysalis... These guys are forced by their nature to feed on love. It is injustice to take away their natural right to self-preservation. No attempt was made to try and reach a compromise. They were simply banished for something they couldn't help. This is on par with various civil rights and social issues which I won't detail, but we all know how this kind of thing would be considered wrong in today's society, without at least trying to find a middle ground. So, given these notable examples, what do you guys think? Do you think these episodes have kind of undermined the show's message a bit? Do you agree that injustice is really this prominent in an otherwise great society? Now, let's have discussion!
  9. So, some odd days ago, I had a small conversation with someone on here about how awesome The Offspring are, and, well, here we are. This was originally sketched on Corel Painter 12 and then vectored in Flash! I mean, I have Illustrator Originally, it was meant to be Rainbow Dash striking a similar pose with more detailed lighting, shadowing, contours and stuff, but I felt it deviated too far and people wouldn't get the reference. So, before I started doing some minor shadowing, I moved the whole template to Flash and got started Vectoring. This was also when I started making an OC that resembled the cover art even more so. I mean, I still have the RD drawing and maybe I'll finish it one of these days. Maybe. I might've hinted towards doing some commissions with my last post, but I have to cut myself short here as I'm working on an animation project that's currently burrowing out of pre-production, so I'm going to work on that! Good news though, if you need an OC, the project requires some background models that need to be designed, and I plan on releasing ones that are 'one hit wonders' to anyone that would want one. Vectored to 'show-quality' and maybe even the full puppet rig. Maybe. Regardless on how the project goes, the offer will still stand, but depending on how far along I get, the quality may vary. tl;dr : -Based off "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace" by The Offspring. -Originally Rainbow Dash but not anymore...obviously. -Can't do commissions (at this current time). *no one really cares D: -Need an OC? You could be in luck! (P3) (could)
  10. Check this page out. I have to admit I'm pretty disgusted by the things posted on this page. This guy completely takes the piss out of the MLP fandom and says some insulting things about us as well as others do. I don't want to do anything drastic, like try to take the page down, and I don't want anyone else to try that either. And I haven't been completely explosive-mega-angry-hateful-person towards the page either. But I did post a little something on the wall voicing my opinions, with no swearing or hateful comments, and he deleted it. Well, isn't that nice? I spent ages writing that out and he goes and gets rid of it. What do you guys have to say about this page? I can't believe some people can be completely disrespectful and intolerant like this.
  11. First of all, this is the textbook TL;DR. You have been warned. I came here today after conversing with some fellow bronies on campus. After a long, drawn out and very logical and yet philosophical debate, we asked ourselves "what happened to Love and Tolerate?" It's pretty much common for bronies that I know to literally become more loving and tolerant and generally more happy after becoming a fan of MLP. I really believed all of "us" to be this way. Then I came to places like these. I'm certainly not bashing anyone and this isn't any passive-aggressive crap, but my eyes have been opened to the fact that bronies as a whole are not about "Love and Tolerate", especially on the interwebs. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when I figured it out, but I was literally kinda depressed about it for a few days. I really thought bronies as a whole were striving to become better by adopting the L&T lifestyle. For the most part, I was wrong. I think we can be better than that. Bronies by definition are different from "normal" society, so why not be better than "normal" society? I'm not asking that you sell all of your guns, refuse to join the military, or never defend yourself because honestly, I wouldn't want you to do any of those. I'm just wondering if we can spew a little less hate, be a little more forgiving, throw a little less fire at others, and generally be more positive. For instance, if someone believes in a certain religion, why is it seemingly instinct to verbally abuse them? (Same with non-religious persons). Just because you don't agree with something you attack it? Why jump on the hate-bandwagon, when most people who do, don't even know what they're defending or attacking for that matter. Why can't bronies have a calm peaceful debate on religion instead. Hell, if we can't do that, what hope does the rest of the world have to doing the same? None. The world has no hope of peace if bronies cannot have peace amongst themselves. Here's the funny part. I am a walking paradox. There are certain things in the world I cannot tolerate. I admit it. Here's the difference though, I TRY to tolerate them. I really give effort to changing for the better not only for myself, but for my fellow bronies as well, if not the entire world. I'm not saying I'm better than everyone, because I'm clearly not better than everyone. However, I am inclined to think that those who try to L&T are better than the majority of people in general. Here's where the debate part begins. What do you think about Love and Tolerate? How do you (or do not) apply it to your life and why? If you have, tell me and the rest of the pony-world what the results of doing so in your life. To me, it doesn't really matter if you respond or not, so long as I got you to think, this thread has already been a success. Thank you for your time, -AppleJared
  12. Written for the one-year anniversary of MLP Forums! Life, Liberty, and the beauty of Love and Tolerance Before I begin this 800 word essay or post (an indirect challenge I took on from the Happy B-Day forum!), you may recognize the title taken from the Declaration of Independence. Of course, the last words were changed from “the pursuit of happiness” to “the beauty of Love and tolerance”. I am sure we have all had our Constitution and Declaration of Independence lectures, both in high school and college. Even if you are outside of the United States, chances are you have heard and read about America’s founding morals and values. However, it was always interesting to people: the fact that the founding fathers worded happiness as something you pursue. So, can happiness ever truly be obtained? Well, that’s what we are going to go into, and it all relates to love and tolerance, with the My Little Pony community as an example. The pursuit of happiness is sometimes confused with the American Dream. The traditional American Dream in short, is to work hard, obtain wealth by working hard, and pass this tradition onto the next generation. However, there are a lot more factors that play into this concept. But the basic idea is the fact that our society has gotten so caught up with big business, obtaining wealth and materialistic possessions…that we may have truly forgotten the things in our lives that make us truly happy. To explain this better, I will tell a short fictional story/hypothetical: -Congratulations! You’ve “made it” by the American Dream standards. You have wealth, you have power, and you can virtually afford many items with a 1 to 5 million dollar salary a year (before taxes). But wait! Now you are a part of the largest tax bracket in existence, sometimes paying more than half of your income on taxes. This upsets you, but you continue to build your own business and Entrepreneur Empire in the hopes of obtaining happiness. You love what you do and you give a lot to charity, but you are still unhappy. You feel like you’ve missed it, and you are not quite sure why. You have money, you have power, you have respect…what else is there? Well, there is love and tolerance. And finally by some miracle overcoming your busy schedule, you find your soul mate! You get married later in life, and have a few kids. However, you are so busy with work it’s hard to spend time with family. One day, you find yourself stopped at a stoplight in a $90,000 SUV and your family is arguing about cell phones, not being able to do what they want, and you are upset. You then notice the car in front of you: A beat up old station wagon that probably wouldn’t be able to sell for more than $800; and there is a full family in the car, windows down, laughing and having a great time after a fishing trip. Then it FINALLY hits you! You realize after chasing your dreams for so long, everything you needed was right in front of you. Now, instead of giving to charity because it “looks good”, you give freely and visit those children in need along with your family. Your family begins to learn what it truly means to be happy: money is nice, but if you let it rule you, it will consume you. Love and happiness is about random acts of kindness that go unnoticed. Happiness is about sharing, caring, and being joyful no matter what the circumstances. Because no matter what you’ve been through in life, and no matter what disability you may face, the only true disability in this life is a bad attitude. Also, with great power comes great responsibility. Lastly, with faith, hope, and love…you can finally find true happiness, no matter what your background, income, or upbringing. You can control your own destiny! And that is one of the messages I believe this show has to offer- So if we bring that story into the My Little Pony community, WHO KNEW! I mean, who knew a television show designed for little girls could bring together a community of boys, girls, men, and women of all ages? Well, that is what has happened and is happening! And we have the entire community, and places like MLPForums to thank for that! Now mind you, the internet is anything but a true human experience. But it’s a great start to real life meet ups, getting to know others, and just plain learning how to not follow the norm or the crowd! Now my quick background: I am not extremely active on the site, but I have gotten to know some amazing people here, and even though it’s online, I can tell by the quality of a lot of posts…that a lot of folks here care about being genuine, and care about helping the world. So to that I say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MLP FORUMS! Let the true pursuit of happiness start with love and tolerance. Although we may always pursue happiness, always remember: if we approach something with a humble heart and a genuine spirit, “with ordinary talents and extraordinary perseverance, ALL things are attainable!” –Sir Thomas Buxton -STEEL MATT (Matthew)
  13. So what are you a bigger fan of? The show or the fan created content? I have loved the show for a while now but you can only watch the 52 episodes so many times before you memorize almost every line of dialogue. Currently I am a regular visitor of FIMFiction and I fear at the rate I am consuming the material daily I will be left without by the years end! Also the endless supply of extremely intricate artwork and equally amusing comics that Equestria Daily informs me of never ceases to leave me in awe. Not to mention the music it inspires! It just fills me with such warmth to know I am part of something much bigger that brings happiness to so many people. If only I were more social, I would love to meet some fellow bronies to share the joy its kept with me in these darkest of times. )Actually, I wanted to post in the life advice forum but since it requires a 40 post minimum, I instead opted to distract myself from the dark proceedings that currently plague my mind in favor of something that brings joy to my world.( But yes, back to the original question, what are your thoughts? Does fan created content add to or detract from the overall enjoyment you find of the show? I look forward to reading your responses! ((Side note, hope this isn't violating any rules, I've had... quite a few, and hoped to just engage myself in a friendly conversation with like minded individuals instead of dwelling on my current predicament.))
  14. It's no secret that some ponies are a little less accepting than others. We are all human behind the computer screen, and it should be no surprise that we can't all be loving all the time. With my time on the forums, and elsewhere on the net, I have come across bronies/pegasisters who take the philosophy to extremes. Toleration is one thing, the toleration of hate is another. I also constantly see ponyfolk who seem to choose to exclude and show intolerance to others just because they can, defying the very concept of the aforementioned creed. So, I think the questions here are, do you follow the message of the show? and if you do, at what point do you draw the line?
  15. I wrote a couple of fan fiction stories, one was from about a month or two ago, and the other is from just last week, I hope you enjoy them, I will accept criticism, (but leave note that I am terrible with English, I just want feedback on the actual storyline) I hope you enjoy 10 pages double spaced "John": 3.5 pages double spaced "Scootaloo":
