  1. For me, Hell no. By the time the two-part Season Four premiere comes out, it's going to be a save-the-world story like previous season premieres, except this time it'll have Twilight sacrifice her wings and princesshood to save her friends from whatever evil threat the writers pit her against. Besides, if you're going to turn Twilight into a princess, you might as well turn Rarity into a world-famous fashion designer, and Rainbow Dash into a Wonderbolt, while making both those characters leave each other and their other friends behind to do so. If Twilight's gonna break up with the Mane Six, the rest might as well do so, too... except maybe Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie, because they'll probably stay in Ponyville for their own reasons (animals, farm-life, and "hey, why not", respectively). And yes, I'm still struggling to get over the shock of seeing Twilight become a princess. And yes, I'd rather the humanized ponies from Equestria Girls, than Princess Twilight, because at the very least the former doesn't break continuity like the latter.
  2. a slightly older piece of my favourite sisters! (i gotta say, the royal sisters just might be my favourite to draw!)
  3. Hey, look what may have possibility existed, AN ALICORN BAT Unfortunately, other than Scootie's observation on the statue, nothing else is mentioned, as the story quickly changes focus. But hey, I'd love that fact, even if it's so little https://www.equestriadaily.com/2018/04/alicorn-bat-pony-spotted-in-ponyville.html?m=1
  4. Would you date an alicorn? She asks you for a date. As for me, if she was nice and pretty like Celestia or Luna (or in fact one of them) I would jump at the chance to date one if she approached me. Sure, I will die of old age eventually, but let's say this alicorn had many mortal lovers through her long life. She doesn't want to hide away in the mountains, within a cave, where she eats raw fish from an underground lake and be totally anti social. Sure, she gets upset seeing friends and lovers die, but they still live on in her memories. With each generation she seeks out to befriend people, not caring they will die on her eventually. Things might be a bit awkward when she talks about lovers who died hundreds of years ago, but that would also be funny to hear too.
  5. So say for some reason Twilight couldn't be promoted to princesshood, but one of the remaining 5 could, which of the other mane 6 members would be best for ascension to alicorn?
  6. It's 5 years since Twilight became an alicorn. The time Twilight being an Alicorn in the show is longer than when she wasn't. It might be way too late to bring it up again and analyze, but this might be a good time to do it because no rabid fan who would dumb things down would still be around by now. I also don't like the 'haters gonna hate' or 'they are stupid, they would hate anything' kind of attitude. It might be good for our mental health, it would be easy for someone to think that way, but it won't actually explain anything and won't get us anywhere. I don't like the stwaman argument. And of course I am aware of lots of people hates or likes something for stupid reasons. I just want to analyze stuff. I believe any open discussion would bring us to a better state. The most obvious reason why people hated Alicorn Twilight I think is because it was a decision made based on marketing, not by prioritizing the storytelling. Hasbro toy department had a pressure to make a pink princess toy (we all know the infamous pink Celestia and how Luna was treated because she was too dark for kids) and for them, the fact that the princesses didn't appeared that much on the show, and the main protagonist was not a princess was a problem requiring an improvement. To delve into it deeper, it's also about the female princess fantasy. There is nothing wrong about it, it has been working well long enough among human history and it still will be, but the show was about 'there are lots of ways to be a girl'. And lots of the adult fan base was into the show because the show had good story, surpassing expectations by being more than a cliched girly cartoon. Fulfilling the princess fantasy was exactly like being a cliched girly cartoon for them. And also, prioritizing anything but story would definitely turn them off. We can also see, even how good the season 3 finale was, how rushed it is. Equestrai Girls didn't help it either. It showed how the studio could be a total disaster and incapable of writing a good story and putting wings made the whole matter look worse. The reason behind Equestria Girl's premise was also marketing and to fulfill the female magical girl transformation fantasy. Again, there is nothing wrong about it, but making a good story should come first, and checking if it fits is also required. The other aspect of the argument is 'Twilight was a good character because of being a smart pony who is good at using knowledge and wits to solve problems'. And 'being a princess can obscure the nature of her'. Thankfully it turned out that season 4~7 were very well made seasons, but actually the show being good had less something to do with Twilight being an Alicorn princess. If she wasn't an Alicorn princess, it would still be great. It's more like the show being good 'despite of' her being an Alicorn princess. "The show is expanding" : Well, the show is being a more big scaled story, but I don't think it fits the show being that way. The show is most efficient at itty-bitty everyday Ponyville stuff. We got to see Dragonball Z stuff at season 4 finale, but it was too much of a fan service. (btw that's also fulfilling the male badass fantasy.) Now it got too big, it can't shrink down anymore. That's a risk of any stories expanding. Season 7 finale got so ridiculous, reviving all the legend pillars of Equestria like Naruto and making up a cliched villain to fight an epic battle, all 14 ponies gathering around for the fate of Equestria. Of course back then they wouldn't have known anything about these, but their concern kind of came true on some points. And it's true that we got more of the princess side of Twilight (as a device for expanding the surrounding) instead of the side of Twilight we knew and fell in love with in the first place (as a character itself). It wasn't 100% bullshit what some of them said. In season 1~2, if someone asked who that purple pony is, that would be answered by like "She is the main character in the show, likes books, good at magic." After season 3, the same question would be answered by something like "She is one of the four Alicorn princesses, who protects the nation." Making the protagonist famous and the special one and a celebrity is a big risk at storytelling. You can never go back, and later on, you might not know what to do with all of that. "She is still the same pony" : Well, it is and it isn't. Of course someone could say she is the same pony just sprouted wings and got promoted, but everything about someone represents a certain character. Being purple, being a bookworm, being a female, having straight long hair, living in a library, sometimes freaking out, everything. Pinkie Pie won't be 'Pinkie Pie' if she wasn't pink, and it's not just about her name, but also about her nature and what she represents. Twilight is changed. And it is something more than just wings and being a princess. It changes her character design, it changes her status, it changes her mindset, it changes what she has to face, and most importantly, it changes the premise of the show. People get concerned when they see something familiar turns different. The reason for watching MLP might be something about seeing the familiar, unlike the unsettling reality, and get relaxed, seeing the peaceful (or being cute-dangerous) environment of Ponyville. I just think if they could be a little more open minded, and see how the show goes, it could have been easier for them to swallow it. What are your thoughts about it? Let me know what you think.
  7. Will Twilight Sparkle grow bigger over time as an immortal alicorn?
  8. In Friendship is Magic, we could see a great variety of (mythological) creatures during the 9 seasons, Equestria grew and extended more and more to other creatures (dragons, faucets, changing were the first), in the epilogue, we could see that all creatures live and share in harmony. Considering that G5 will be a completely new world (no leaks are accepted here), what creatures would you like to see in the next generation? Is any already explored in the series, or is it one that we have not seen? How would these creatures develop with ponies? (Hippogriffs, Dragons, Kirins, Griffins, Crystal Ponies, Yaks, Changelings, Zebras, Breezies, Sea Ponies, Alicorns, Centaurs, Minotaurs, Draconequus?) Personally, in addition to Earth Ponies, Unicorns and Pegasus, I would like to see the sea ponies, I think it is a great opportunity to have them as one of main races, I would also love to have changelings, hippogriffs and kirins. Alicorns are a complicated option for me, since in G4 they were explained as ''rare'' and I don't know if it's a good idea to bring them with the same concept, since it would be redundant. Comments here!
  9. What are your thoughts on Alicorn OCs, are there to many OP one or too many royal? I'd like to know what you think.
  10. What type of pony do you prefer, would like to be, or identify most with? Would you prefer speed and freedom, or magical powers? or just be a plain old, pony! Please give reasons/examples why! Struttin' all day!
  11. Okay so I have said quite a few times on here that I am not a fan of twilicorn but despite my misgivings I am trying to at least look on the bright side and can think of a few ways this might still work. Before I begin though I have noticed that several critics of twilicorn have said that this could work if it is temporary but I do not agree with this. Sure the way twilicorn was introduced may have been pitifully lazy writing but to simply grant alicorn status out of nowhere and then take it away as quickly as it was given would also be lazy writing and lazy writing cannot be solved with more lazy writing. 1. Twilight as princess of friendship: this will probably happen regardless of whether or not this actually works out so it is highly unlikely that Twilight will leave her friends. Think about it, she is the element of magic which is a combination of all the other 5 elements of harmony and the title of the show is "Friendship is Magic". Expecting the princess of friendship to leave her friends would be like expecting Cadence as the princess of love to not be with Shining Armor. Twilight if anything will need her friends more than ever as she gets used to her new responsibilities as a princess, Rainbow Dash could teach her about flying as some have pointed out for example. Rarity could teach her about some of the finer points of high society etiquette though I am sure Twilight is well versed on it being Celestia's apprentice a little sprucing up though never hurt anypony. Applejack could help her sort through all the BS, suck ups and flank kissers trying to get in good with the new princes that will inevitably come her way. Pinkie Pie could help cheer her up when she is feeling down or discouraged and maybe make it a little less likely to have Lesson Zero moment. 2. A rational explanation as to why the coronation was so abrupt: there are many different potential scenarios I have come up with in my head and most of them involve some kind of emergency. We all know that alicorns get a massive power boost so perhaps whatever threat is lurking required Twilight to take this power boost a bit sooner than Celestia had originally planned. It could be a new villain or the return of an old villain it could even link to why Celestia wanted to reform Discord. There is nothing that will completely get rid of the abrupt nature of this change but it can be smoothed over slightly with some good writing. 3. Twilight's power grows slowly over time: my biggest concern with twilicorn was that Twilight would become too powerful too fast making her a Mary Sue. But having great power dosen't mean you have complete control over it, during this one flashback scene where it showed how Twilight got her cutie mark she had a massive magic surge which not only caused Spike to hatch from his egg but to temporarily grow into a fully grown dragon. Thanks to her years of training and study she has much greater control over her powers then she did back then but turning into an alicorn is far more significant than simply slapping a pair of wings on Twilight. We don't know how big of a power boost that Twilight got but we know that is probably fairly substantial. We saw from Magic Duel that while Twilight was far more powerful than your average unicorn still had her limitations and as a alicorn if this is done correctly will still have some limitations. Simply put if Twilight is able to perform the kind of spells Trixie did under the influence of the alicorn amulet right off the bat than I am going to be seriously pissed. If written correctly Twilight could learn to master those kinds of spells and other high level unicorn and alicorn spells gradually over the course of a few more seasons.

  13. I'm writing a story about a pony's ascension to alicorn status, but I'd like to do it in a compelling way that's not going to annoy the reader/viewer. So far, he's in a Gary Stu situation. Destined to be the first (and currently only) alicorn prince, son of Starlight and Sunburst, well-acquainted with several main characters, and is the apprentice of Luna (who has had to come out of retirement to teach him.) He is not going to rule over Equestria, but he will instead fill Luna's role of helping ponies deal with their nightmares. Perhaps he'll have to deal with a larger threat, or he could become an alicorn simply by learning how to do his task well. I'm not sure which route will be received the best! I was thinking on writing him as someone with depression. Maybe he doesn't want to accept his destiny as the guardian of dreams, and would instead prefer to do something else, like bake cookies or do standup comedy. Maybe he's a chronic procrastinator, or the type of character who compulsively makes everything into a joke to cope with stress. Luna is very serious about her work, and it would cause conflict if her apprentice wasn't interested in or motivated to do the tasks she deems sacred. And, as the only pony who has ever guarded dreams, I'm sure she sees herself as the absolute expert. Alternatively, he could be overly enthusiastic about his new position, and screw things up by making all nightmares into silly, funny dreams instead of dealing with the root of the problem. Maybe he has some sort of nightmare fear of his own that he can't get rid of, and he over exerts himself trying to help others to avoid his own shadow. Once again, not sure which direction is best. Kinda leaning towards him being a bit rebellious, too. His mother and father (and Twilight and "Aunt" Trixie) are all very much intelligent overachievers with important jobs. Maybe they hold our protagonist to strictly high standards, and his dream guardian destiny is only compounding upon his stress. He has big horseshoes to fill, and perhaps he feels intimidated and/or constricted by it all. What tips, critiques, and general feedback do you all have? I really want to sharpen this story and have a well-developed protagonist!
  14. She saved Equestria from being covered in smoke, AND she reformed Discord, the most powerful and dangerous canonical character, both pretty much single-hoofedly. If anypony deserves alicornhood, I'd say it's her--more so than Twilight, even.
  15. Okay, first im some months without make this kind of art, because take much time, but im very excited to back and bring this again I really need all the feedback to improve my arts, and if are good what i should do next?

  17. How did you feel when Derpy sacrificed herself to save Twilight from turning into a statue? All things that happened was unexpected for me. First Princess Cadance, then Princess Celestia Princess and Luna and finally Twilig-nope Derpy with her horn hat. She sure fooled Grubber though. I felt both honored and sad when Derpy was the one that turned into a statue. At the same time, I was also in quite a shock and had chills all over my body when that quick chaos happened. I knew if Discord was here (not the balloon version that Pinkie Pie made), he would snap all the villains but what Derpy did, was amazing. Finally, MLP movie gave a very special role to Derpy, although she is not from mane 6. I, myself do not love Derpy the most but I was too emotional on that part. Also, I was sad when we only see cutie mark crusaders only in one scene with no dialogue. Fluttershy's dialogues were so few too and she was my favorite out of mane six. Afterall, I loved the movie, it was more than I expected and it was sure surprising and amazing. So, how did you feel when Derpy sacrificed herself?
  18. How would you have felt about an Alicorn being in G3? How do you think she would have been handled? I have pieces of a G3 Alicorn oc in my mind, so I have some idea. I believe the ponies are created from certain random nature occurrences, since it is known from Newborn Cuties that Unicorns are created from two rainbows touching each other. I have a bit of an idea that Pegasai come from a certain cloud formation. And I haven't thought of how Earth ponies would be made. So if two rainbows touching pass through the cloud formation, that would create an Alicorn, which is a 1% chance occurrence, explaining why there is none in canon.
  19. Let's look at the cakes. In canon, we have two earth ponies who just happen to have unicorn and pegasus blood in them from a few generations ago, and have twins of the two other pony species. I don't know much about genetics, but the chances of that happening seem astronomical. And yet, it did happen. Going by that, is it that inconceivable to believe that there is, no matter how small, the possibility that an Alicorn could simply be born as long as they have the right genetics in their bloodline?
  20. Princess Luna is best princess 0w0 Been doing more fanart as I try to practise for commissions (chances are, it isn't stolen) You can find me here: FB/FA/Tumblr: LordSwinton Twitter: @/SwintonLord Swintonisonfire@gmail.com
  21. hello :3 i hope enjoying my draws, i'm training to get better at this content (I'm learning to do background, so I'll improve on it.) starting with this, my =3
  22. What animation error can you remember the most? As for me, over all other animation errors, I remember the green apple that gets spit out as a red apple the most. Even over Cyclops Noteworthy, the alicorn filly at the Magic Kindergarden, and Derpy Hooves. I don't know why, but I don't really consider those to be animation errors, even though they really are. If you want to know about the animation errors for the show, there is a series on Youtube called "My Little Bloopers: Mistakes are FOREVER." There, all the errors are pointed out. Some of them are: -Cheerilee's wrong tail -AJ's missing freckles -Double wing/hoof/head/horn/whatever -Bad layering
  23. EDIT 5/14/18 - I'm going to be uploading all my works to this thread unless it's OC Specific! I wanted to try out posting my art too a forum because I feel like I'm not getting the attention on it that I'm looking for, especially sense most of the people who watch me on deviantart or follow me on tumblr aren't super into MLP, so Here I am in a MLP forum. I was thinking of making holographic prints with this but it all depends on how interested people would be! let me know what you think!
  24. alicorn shadows, part 1: the birth of time and space. this may sound a bit religious, and a bit weird, but it will all make sence in the end... In a universe like ours, two alicorns were born: one filly with light blue coat, dark blue eyes, wavey purple mane with look through edge. She had a large yellow crown with a miniature globe in it and black lacey shoes. Her cutiemark was a piece of space: dark blue with stars and a planet in the middle. She was Cosmic Nebula, the queen, the being of space. The other was a colt named timekeeper. He has a brownish yellow coat, grey spikey mane and tail, light blue eyes. His cutiemark was a clock with radars around it. He wears a black, spikey, steampunk crown and black steampunk shoes. He also has a working clock around his neck. He was the being of time. They both took care of planet Munton (my fantasy planet i.r.l.). Later on they got two sons, also alicorns: prince Solaria, the being of the sun and moon. He had a light blue coat, purple eyes and purple mane and tail, with pink edge. He wore a black neckless and a smaller black crown, with two amethyst gemstones in it.His cutiemark was a sun and moon comibned. The other son was prince Journey, a green alicorn with curly grey mane, look through edge and medium blue eyes. His cutiemark was a compass, he also wore a compass around his neck. He wore a dark blue crown and shoes. Now, both sons had a girlfriend. Journey had a greenish unicorn, named Chrysalis. She was mainpulative and wanted only two things: Journey's love and more power. Later on, Solaria, afraid of what Chrysalis might do, fled to planet Faust (the planet were Lauren Faust her creatures live). There, he met an alicorn named Lauren, she had a white coat and straight red mane and tail. She got pregnant, and they later on got two fillies: Luna And Celestia. I'm going to have to stop here, because it wouldn't fit under the same title anymore... BUT let me know if you want to read more!
  25. I'm curious as to who would like my fanfiction named alicorn shadows to be read? It is about the background story of planet Munton, planet Faust and every single pony alive. It tells you who is the sisters father and other family. It tells you why Chrysalis is what and who she is. The fanfiction ends with season 1 episode 1 of the show. They completely connect!
