the title explains itself sometimes i hate alicorn ocs. Although only sometimes only when they look odd like this: here is also something that can support my hate:
-
My main OC is going to be a pegasus. Big deal, right? NO. But right now for my main OC, I'm using an alicorn named Princess Navi, as you can tell by my name and profile pic. So, I don't understand why all the hate goes into having an alicorn oc. Okay, so what if most suck? No need to be rude! So my question is: what should I do to fix my OC? My pegasus OC has some design hiccups that need fixing. Here is what I consider to be THE OC GUIDELINES! 1. Don't make it have an amazing special power or be the BFF of all the mane six 2. Evil/sad/emo backstories are a NO-NO 3. Handicaps. Bad. Use in strict moderation. 4. Rainbows are used too much= NO. 5. Recolors are unoriganal. 6. Throwing on a cloak, glasses, 20 hats, and some butterfly wings is just SAD. 7. Be consistent with your color scheme. 8. Have a name that matches your cutie mark and colors. 9. Be VERY careful and tread lightly with alicorn OCs 10. Hrybrids are hard to do. Don't do them if it doesn 't make sense. 11. Make sure your cutie mark makes sense. 12. Sons and daughters of princesses, villains, or the Mane 6 are bad. Okay, that's about it. But one last rule: 13: PONY CREATOR IS ONLY USED TO GET AN IDEA OF THE DESIGN. GOT IT? This really angers me, because artists lose skill (and sometimes money) to this EVIL THING. The PONY CREATOR is the only thing I hate about the Living Tombstone: PONY CREATOR OCS! You are bad and you should feel bad if you have a pony creator OC. DRAW IT, JEEZ. Or at least ask someone to draw it for you. You guys post good/bad OCs below!

Ok I'm new to this forum and I not sure if this topic is suitable here, if not please move it. I'm not a new MLP's fan but I'm new with the fandom (fanfic, art work, meme fan's stuffs, etc ). Recently I start to read MLP's fanfic and search for artwork because I'm working on my own AU world. I was a bit surprised to see so many hate for Alicorn OCs, as a reader and writer I understand why but still... I'm have two OCs, I'm proud about them and I made sure they're not mary-sue even though they're OP. In my canon Alicorns are alway OP and I can't stand normal, weak alicorn or alicorn can't fly/ can't use magic (serious, why's she/he be alicorn then? ), non-royal or don't hold responsibility is ok as long as their stories is reasonable. Ok back to the topic, I have search around internet try to find good designs to prove that Alicorn OC can be done right. Well I can't find many so I open this thread for share some good Alicorn designs and hope you guys can help me find some in return. Not good designs but well-write alicorns' re also welcome. +Interesting background and beautiful designs: http://sapphiregamgee.deviantart.com/art/Ponies-of-Death-417311908 +Black Alicorn is not new but I like his bangs, really a nice touch: https://derpibooru.org/67565?scope=scped88f35e6454ef71e8f7f89da71bf03aa4f94827a +I sure you don't see many old OC right?: http://phaeston-e12.deviantart.com/art/Concept-Silvermist-OC-Design-321171531 +Lovely colors: http://myhandsarecrazy.deviantart.com/art/the-Alicorn-of-my-Dream-372510676 +Maybe not a excellent drawing, but I fall in love with her colors: http://redtallin.deviantart.com/art/Earth-328113671 +This one has mainstream colors and a bit overdesign IMO, but he look so freaking awesome: http://legacy350.deviantart.com/art/Dust-215879023 English is not my native language, I'm sorry if I confuse you.

So say for some reason Twilight couldn't be promoted to princesshood, but one of the remaining 5 could, which of the other mane 6 members would be best for ascension to alicorn?
-
I really hope they do. Twilight really couldn't have become an alicorn without them. Also, Twilight will never die and the rest of the mane six will grow old and go to pony heaven. I mean, there's a place for them in her castle and if they passed away... Anyways, what do you think and/or hope about them becoming alicorns? Alicorn mane six- http://www.fimfiction-static.net/images/story_images/5291_r.jpg (I don't own this! Just Googled it, saw this and thought it was 20% cooler than what I could draw!) Sorry, the link doesn't work. But if you type it in it should.

Some of the merchandice and the fandom calls her that but I don't recall the show ever calling her that or there being some official mention by the creators? Or do I misremember? Imo just because someone is a alicorn should make you royalty and I liked that the princesses in Equestria have actually accomplished something rather than born to royalty.

As we all know, there are a few variants of magic that we've seen over the course of MLP so far. To name the biggest ones... Types of Magic: 'Normal' Magic. Used by most unicorns and alicorns. Usually if not exclusively requires a horn to perform. 'Alicorn Magic'. Alicorns have a higher affinity for magic than unicorns, making their magic innately more powerful. Through powerful relics and other means, some unicorns can reach levels of alicorn magic *see 'Alicorn Amulet'*, but for the most part, it appears to be a pure and immensely powerful form of magic that only their ancient and rare race can tap into. 'Dark' Magic. Used by dark characters *Sombra, the Changelings seem to have their own variant, etc*, usually, but not always, requires a horn to perform. Is considered more dangerous and often more powerful than normal magic. *See Inspiration Manifestation* 'Natural Magic'. Natural Magic that individuals or species are born with. Used by Pegasi to walk on clouds, Earth Ponies to have a keen attachment with nature for growing things, etc. No horn or medium required. Horn-less/'Mystery' *Voodoo?* Magic. Used by Zecora. No horn required for useage. Appears to be akin to 'Normal' Magic, but primarily uses potions and other mediums rather than a horn. 'Chaos' Magic. A powerful, elusive and rare form of Natural Magic that allows individuals born with it to evade the laws of reality around them. Originates from Discord, who, in addition to evading reality, is also capable of re-writing it entirely. 'Friendship Magic'. The deus ex machina of the show, 'friendship', along with other potent positive emotions such as 'love', seem to not only be their own form of magic in some mysterious ways, but also act as magic enhancers; bestowing those who embrace them with unmatched power in order to overcome powers born from negative emotions, ill-intent, etc. This immense power is easiest used through combining individuals who represent positive virtues, and magic relics that represent those same virtues *namely the EoH*. Chaos Magic: Throughout Discord's appearances, he's increasingly used his powers in various ways, namely warping reality, literally 'removing sense' from the world around him, and causing visual pranks that twist all laws of nature around in a 180 loop. In the finale, Discord's magic too was stolen by Tirek, who presumably could do so after having already become so strong. However, one would think that, Discord's magic is all that Tirek would need to become all-powerful, since Discord and his magic have proven to be the most powerful single source of magic around *and still continue to be, seeing as Tirek is another example of 'suck others' powers to become powerful', not unlike Chrysalis*. But, he didn't. Sucking out Discord's magic hardly did much of anything. Now, that was probably one of my few low points of the episode, because it didn't make much sense to me. So naturally, I've come up with a headcanon to appease my desire for the fictional world of colored equines to continue making flawless sense. Take or leave it as you will. Chaos Magic is a rare type of Natural Magic. Not only is it rare and a complete mystery to pony kind's knowledge, but when concentrated and controlled well enough, Chaos Magic can prove to be a complete and utter faux pas in the world of magic, because it breaks laws of nature that even high levels of Normal and Dark Magic cannot do with nearly the same level of ease. The prime user and only known master of Chaos Magic, who is also likely the original source of Chaos Magic, is Discord. As an entity representing chaos itself, Discord's power over Chaos Magic is unparalleled, to the point where he can do feats of the imagination just by snapping a finger. However, Discord's Chaos Magic, being Natural Magic, is just as much a part of him, as it is a tool that he uses *like how unicorns simply learn magic and use it as their tool*, meaning it cannot be transferred, stolen or given to anyone else, as he is the only one who can use it. In other words, one cannot 'learn' Chaos Magic, it's something you're born with, something that you individually have a high affinity for using. Chaos Magic is like a rare extension of Natural Magic that allows you to evade and loosely avoid the laws of reality, rather than allow you to walk on clouds, have a connection with the earth, or what have you. "What the hell is your point in all this, CD?" Simply put: * The reason Tirek didn't seem to gain much power by absorbing Discord's Chaos Magic, is because while it's immensely powerful in Discord's possession, it isn't for anyone else, because it's connected to Discord specifically, being Natural Magic at its core. Thus, when Tirek absorbed it, it was practically the same thing as absorbing the Natural Magic of some run of the mill, above-average Earth Pony. * Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwhich are both Earth Ponies. Thus, they have Natural Magic. They're both rare and unique in the sense that their Natural Magic also contains Chaos Magic capabilities, allowing them to avoid and practically outright ignore reality, which is the source of their abilities to break the fourth wall and do all the bizarre, strange things that they do. * Discord is able to sense when there are abrupt changes in magic nearby, almost like a 'Discord Sense', one more example of his Chaos Magic. Meaning that having a sixth sense for things is a trait of Chaos Magic. Thus, Pinkie Pie's Pinkie Sense and Cheese Sandwich's Cheesey Sense are also both types of Chaos Magic, allowing them each to have a sixth sense for certain things. Discord senses magic disruptions, Pinkie senses immediate incoming events, and Cheese senses social gatherings. If more Earth Ponies are shown to have senses in the future, this headcanon will grow stronger. Discord's Sense: Pinkie's Sense: Cheese's Sense:

Okay so in the crystal heart novel Cadence becomes an alicorn because she redeemed a villain called Prismia who just like trixie became evil because of a amulet (not sure if alicorn amulet though). However fluttershy redeemed Discord, DISCORD, on her own, I mean discord ruled over equestria while Prismia just trolls an earth pony village, And while Cadence becomes royalty fluttershy only gets thanked. plot holes, plot holes everywhere

Personally, I find them disgusting. The fandom is what led me in, I admit to that. But at least I care about the show, at least I'm actually a fan. Meanwhile a good chunk of the brony populace doesn't even watch the show. They just call themselves fans and then go proclaiming fan works to be better. Then stirring shit up because they think the actual show's inferior. In my opinion, being a brony should be the easiest task in the world. All you have to do, the only thing that you need to do is watch the show for 22 minutes on a Saturday when there are new episodes. No more, no less. 22 minutes, is your schedule not free enough to spare a half hour? It's just one of those things that I find insulting, fans make this stuff out of respect (most of the time) for FiM and then you, who doesn't even watch or like the show, go and mooch off of our creations when in truth you shouldn't even be here. I'm not talking about non-bronies appreciating our artwork, I mean people who masquerade as bronies and make us all look bad by treating fanon as canon, complaining about how the show as a whole isn't mature enough, Because God forbid Family shows are for all ages right? and are generally just the kind of person i want to distance myself from. I'm sorry if this comes off as some hate filled rant, but honestly it's just a serious pet peeve of mine. Anyone else? Opinions?

In Friendship is Magic, we could see a great variety of (mythological) creatures during the 9 seasons, Equestria grew and extended more and more to other creatures (dragons, faucets, changing were the first), in the epilogue, we could see that all creatures live and share in harmony. Considering that G5 will be a completely new world (no leaks are accepted here), what creatures would you like to see in the next generation? Is any already explored in the series, or is it one that we have not seen? How would these creatures develop with ponies? (Hippogriffs, Dragons, Kirins, Griffins, Crystal Ponies, Yaks, Changelings, Zebras, Breezies, Sea Ponies, Alicorns, Centaurs, Minotaurs, Draconequus?) Personally, in addition to Earth Ponies, Unicorns and Pegasus, I would like to see the sea ponies, I think it is a great opportunity to have them as one of main races, I would also love to have changelings, hippogriffs and kirins. Alicorns are a complicated option for me, since in G4 they were explained as ''rare'' and I don't know if it's a good idea to bring them with the same concept, since it would be redundant. Comments here!

Well, since Twilight Sparkle has just become an alicorn and the spin-off called Equestrian Girls Do you think people left the fandom and if so how many Will everything be just fine?

Well since we just finished the end of season 3 and it's actual reality that Twilight is now an Alicorn i wanted to see just who would you like to see as an Alicorn? It can be anypony you want and any type of pony weather it be a background pony or one of the mane 6. What would you want them to bring to Equestria? Feel free to add pics or drawings of them if you want.

Was reading the 'is Twilight bigger?' thread and felt compelled to do an image of Twilight taken to the logical extreme of her growing to the size of Celestia. I was searching for reference images of Celestia to guide my attempt when I found this image I just couldn't pass up the idea of doing an image of Twi at the beginning and at my hypothetical conclusion. So apologies for co-opting elements of that image, I promise I'l get round to creating 100% original images soon enough, but this was too damn cool to pass up. Let me know what you think?

For me, Hell no. By the time the two-part Season Four premiere comes out, it's going to be a save-the-world story like previous season premieres, except this time it'll have Twilight sacrifice her wings and princesshood to save her friends from whatever evil threat the writers pit her against. Besides, if you're going to turn Twilight into a princess, you might as well turn Rarity into a world-famous fashion designer, and Rainbow Dash into a Wonderbolt, while making both those characters leave each other and their other friends behind to do so. If Twilight's gonna break up with the Mane Six, the rest might as well do so, too... except maybe Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie, because they'll probably stay in Ponyville for their own reasons (animals, farm-life, and "hey, why not", respectively). And yes, I'm still struggling to get over the shock of seeing Twilight become a princess. And yes, I'd rather the humanized ponies from Equestria Girls, than Princess Twilight, because at the very least the former doesn't break continuity like the latter.

Hey, look what may have possibility existed, AN ALICORN BAT Unfortunately, other than Scootie's observation on the statue, nothing else is mentioned, as the story quickly changes focus. Hello everypony, I just finished watching the Season 6 Premier, which was great by the way, and a new alicorn was introduced. Now, this alicorn is the baby of Cadence and Shining Armor, and I was wondering why the baby is an alicorn if Shining Armor is only a unicorn and cadence isn't naturally an alicorn. Granted in the show, even Luna and Celestia had no clue as to why the baby was an alicorn, but does anypony have any predictions and/or theories about this that they would like to share? To follow up on this, until the end of Season 5, only princesses could be alicorn as far as anypony knew, so does this suggest that baby Flurry Heart is a princess, and if so, would Cadence be considered a queen? Hopefully in future episodes, we may find out the answers to these questions, but as of this moment, I'm very deep in thought and am curious as to what you all have to say about this. Please... fuel my ideas! Thank you kindly, Thundershock

Would you date an alicorn? She asks you for a date. As for me, if she was nice and pretty like Celestia or Luna (or in fact one of them) I would jump at the chance to date one if she approached me. Sure, I will die of old age eventually, but let's say this alicorn had many mortal lovers through her long life. She doesn't want to hide away in the mountains, within a cave, where she eats raw fish from an underground lake and be totally anti social. Sure, she gets upset seeing friends and lovers die, but they still live on in her memories. With each generation she seeks out to befriend people, not caring they will die on her eventually. Things might be a bit awkward when she talks about lovers who died hundreds of years ago, but that would also be funny to hear too.

It's 5 years since Twilight became an alicorn. The time Twilight being an Alicorn in the show is longer than when she wasn't. It might be way too late to bring it up again and analyze, but this might be a good time to do it because no rabid fan who would dumb things down would still be around by now. I also don't like the 'haters gonna hate' or 'they are stupid, they would hate anything' kind of attitude. It might be good for our mental health, it would be easy for someone to think that way, but it won't actually explain anything and won't get us anywhere. I don't like the stwaman argument. And of course I am aware of lots of people hates or likes something for stupid reasons. I just want to analyze stuff. I believe any open discussion would bring us to a better state. The most obvious reason why people hated Alicorn Twilight I think is because it was a decision made based on marketing, not by prioritizing the storytelling. Hasbro toy department had a pressure to make a pink princess toy (we all know the infamous pink Celestia and how Luna was treated because she was too dark for kids) and for them, the fact that the princesses didn't appeared that much on the show, and the main protagonist was not a princess was a problem requiring an improvement. To delve into it deeper, it's also about the female princess fantasy. There is nothing wrong about it, it has been working well long enough among human history and it still will be, but the show was about 'there are lots of ways to be a girl'. And lots of the adult fan base was into the show because the show had good story, surpassing expectations by being more than a cliched girly cartoon. Fulfilling the princess fantasy was exactly like being a cliched girly cartoon for them. And also, prioritizing anything but story would definitely turn them off. We can also see, even how good the season 3 finale was, how rushed it is. Equestrai Girls didn't help it either. It showed how the studio could be a total disaster and incapable of writing a good story and putting wings made the whole matter look worse. The reason behind Equestria Girl's premise was also marketing and to fulfill the female magical girl transformation fantasy. Again, there is nothing wrong about it, but making a good story should come first, and checking if it fits is also required. The other aspect of the argument is 'Twilight was a good character because of being a smart pony who is good at using knowledge and wits to solve problems'. And 'being a princess can obscure the nature of her'. Thankfully it turned out that season 4~7 were very well made seasons, but actually the show being good had less something to do with Twilight being an Alicorn princess. If she wasn't an Alicorn princess, it would still be great. It's more like the show being good 'despite of' her being an Alicorn princess. "The show is expanding" : Well, the show is being a more big scaled story, but I don't think it fits the show being that way. The show is most efficient at itty-bitty everyday Ponyville stuff. We got to see Dragonball Z stuff at season 4 finale, but it was too much of a fan service. (btw that's also fulfilling the male badass fantasy.) Now it got too big, it can't shrink down anymore. That's a risk of any stories expanding. Season 7 finale got so ridiculous, reviving all the legend pillars of Equestria like Naruto and making up a cliched villain to fight an epic battle, all 14 ponies gathering around for the fate of Equestria. Of course back then they wouldn't have known anything about these, but their concern kind of came true on some points. And it's true that we got more of the princess side of Twilight (as a device for expanding the surrounding) instead of the side of Twilight we knew and fell in love with in the first place (as a character itself). It wasn't 100% bullshit what some of them said. In season 1~2, if someone asked who that purple pony is, that would be answered by like "She is the main character in the show, likes books, good at magic." After season 3, the same question would be answered by something like "She is one of the four Alicorn princesses, who protects the nation." Making the protagonist famous and the special one and a celebrity is a big risk at storytelling. You can never go back, and later on, you might not know what to do with all of that. "She is still the same pony" : Well, it is and it isn't. Of course someone could say she is the same pony just sprouted wings and got promoted, but everything about someone represents a certain character. Being purple, being a bookworm, being a female, having straight long hair, living in a library, sometimes freaking out, everything. Pinkie Pie won't be 'Pinkie Pie' if she wasn't pink, and it's not just about her name, but also about her nature and what she represents. Twilight is changed. And it is something more than just wings and being a princess. It changes her character design, it changes her status, it changes her mindset, it changes what she has to face, and most importantly, it changes the premise of the show. People get concerned when they see something familiar turns different. The reason for watching MLP might be something about seeing the familiar, unlike the unsettling reality, and get relaxed, seeing the peaceful (or being cute-dangerous) environment of Ponyville. I just think if they could be a little more open minded, and see how the show goes, it could have been easier for them to swallow it. What are your thoughts about it? Let me know what you think.
