  1. Like the title says, what do you think about the art style in the comics? Personally, I usually like it, except for the artwork of one artist, Jay Fosgitt. I'm really not a fan of the super-deformed way in which he draws the ponies (strangely most non-ponies he draws look fine) and I feel the amount of time they spend on two hooves in those issues is really not in sync with the rest of the comics, to the point where it just takes me out of the issue altogether. Does anyone else have an artist with a style that just takes you out of the story?
  2. Wow, it's been a while since I've started a topic. Anyway, I'm thinking of doing a comic strip and I've created an art style for the project. As of now, I'm playing around with it, but I was hoping for some feedback. Please let me know what you think in the comments. Twilight Sprackle Apple Jackie I still regret inking this one. I'm working on the style with the rest of the Mane 6, but please feel free to give me any feedback (something that isn't, "your inking sucks" or "Get a drawing tablet") "The Quick Trigger" Thanks! -RealityPublishing
  3. So lately I've been wanting to try to create my own art style so that way I don't just have to rely on already existing ones, and this is what I did. Basically this is that 'OC' I've been talking about in my status updates. I do plan on ponifying him just so that way I could try to re-enter the RP world, so there's that. Anyway, let me know what you think, and what I should improve!
  4. So I am currently 32 years of age, and I have been drawing since I was maybe 4-6? It is still my preferred way to draw. I also colour on paper, using either inks, watercolour pencilcrayons, or oil pencilcrayons. I will try and post one every once in a while in this thread, as quite a few of them have accumulated over the years. Keep in mind these are all copyrighted. You can view them all in my sig. This one is probably one of the scariest ones I ever did - I call it "Anare'il, the dragon god of Chaos" - I started in in 2004 - but I had it fully done with solid shading. I t was ok at the time.. but I felt like it had more potential. So 10 years later I went back to it, erased all the solid shading, and reshaded it all.. and the result became much much scarier.. the pencil was really cool, but I still felt it could be more.. so I took a piece of it, and isolated it, and it became much scarier. Then I took that piece and slapped some generic photoshop colour on it - I wasn't going for much here, just wanted to see what colour would do to it, and it became.. creepily alive. I then chopped it up a bit just to see what itd look like with its mouth closed etc.. it got pretty interesting.. there is also a little dot by his one claw - that is supposed to be a little girl - it shows scale - he's one big boy keep in mind the last shots were simply for my own amusement of how the mouth would look opened or closed - I made no effort to actually make it all streamlined, or even to colour it adequately - just fun experiments I will show all the images below the original solid shaded the reshaded the snapshot the coloured snapshot the variations
  5. So over time I got really into digital pieces, very vivid colours with a cosmic theme, and while I am not too pleased that they have become my most popular art pieces, as hand drawn works take much longer to do, I am still happy that they get some sort of recognition. I will try and post one every once in a while in this thread, as quite a few of them have accumulated over the years. Keep in mind these are all copyrighted. You can view them all in my sig. These are not full resolution due to copyright issues.. issues I am still actively fighting as people like to use them without crediting me. This one is called Cosmic heart of the universe, it is also the cover of my published book here is is as a lightbox too
  6. Hey there! I'm trying out a new art style, mostly because I don't really have one that's my own and that I'm used to, also because I don't have money for any art programs yet and wanted to make an art style that would work with regular old boring paint. For testing I just drew 3 OCs of mine, an earth pony, a unicorn and a pegasis, to try with horns and wings, then realized that I didn't draw any mares, so I drew Rarity too, because why not. I tried to make all of their heads slightly different shapes, so that they don't look like they're just copies of eachother. Also, I was going to try to make all of their hair simple, with none being more complex than the guy on the top right (His name is Shamrock Shambles), but I had to make an exception for Rarity because her hair is just so fabulous! Any input or suggestions you have would be nice, and if you absolutely think it's the worst possible thing, let me know instead of acting like it's good, I'd rather bad, honest reviews than nice, fake reviews. I might be testing a few more things and posting them, so look out for those, too. (I won't be making a new topic for them, I'll just post them in this one.)
  7. These are the character designs for Rhythm Heaven Fever and Game & Wario I actually really like this art style. It's like a cross between a traditional anime and a western cartoon. So would you like to see an actual anime with this kind of art style?
  8. Pointy Ponies. I think that's the name. Anyway, here are some of my OCs I drew in the style of toys in FiM. I prefer this style to the shows, even though the shows is still superb. Here you go I guess, enjoy. FYI, I named my username after my OC (Chatterbox, the first one), not my OC after my username. aaaaaand I've just realized my second one used a male body. Dangit, time to remake. OKAY REMAKING IS DONE. Now if you'll excuse me, someone has told me about a "klutz moments" thread, that I may have to visit. Anyway, now we have a male Spotlights. Brilliant.
  9. I really want to start drawing ponies. I need help with creating a ponysona. Are there any tips you can give me for creating a ponysona? Also, have any easy tips for drawing ponies?
  10. Hey! I want some of your honest thoughts, opinions and critiques on my slightly different art style. I am open to all ideas, so fire away!
  11. hello everypony my name is microspark, I'm in need of some tips of vector art styles and techniques. that is all brohoof!
  12. So, I am here to tell you all ponies that I developed a new artstyle! Though it is still in a alpha state, I can and will show it to you!! Here you go: BONUS! Lance's plot: So, what do you guys think?
  13. Generally speaking, I had really been beginning to get sick of that "thick border outline around things and especially characters" art style, which includes colored outlines instead of or as well as just black outlines... before getting into My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in 2011. something about the show makes the style legitimately cute instead of just cheap-looking. Powerpuff Girls, Fairly OddParents! and Danny Phantom (that Butch Hartman style), Dexter's Laboratory, and many others. I don't know if this should be moved into a pony board, but let's discuss this style.
  14. The biggest reason I'm a brony in the first place is because I love (EDIT: LOVE) Lauren Faust's art style. I've always been a sucker for the colorful clean palette of the show akin to the PowerPuff Girls and Foster's Home to Imaginary Friends (also, two of my favorite cartoons on earth). But something hit me the other day; a shrill voice of cold realization echoed through my mind: what if that went away? What if Gen 5 was in a completely new art style no where near the creative genuity that Lauren offered the world; the mane reason (pun, sorry) Gen 4 sets itself apart from Gens 1, 2, 3- with a completely different plotline and fanbase as exceptions. What if it was made in CGI? What if they take that as a logical good reason to make the show crap, or become lazy with the animations as to make every setting a boxed room with a plant in the corner (watch an episode of the new 'Garfield Show' and you'll see what I mean). Or better yet how will you feel if the series became a cash-in? Granted, the series was meant to sell the toys in the first place, but what show ISN'T? Look at what Transformers has become: not only did the movies become a recycled let's-use-the-same-charcters-over-and-over routine, but for some reason the toy quality went down with it (Transformers that don't Transform? How is this acceptable??) Imagine Gen 5 with no Mane 6; with a complete bunch of new ponies. This is what they always have done with every new MLP Gen, but imagine it like the Michael Bay movies: "We'll only include three ponies, and I'm sorry if you want to see more, but people are too happy watching the same thing over and over, so it's just easy to keep making the same thing with no distinct differences because they'll pay money to see it and we don't care about your nostalgia." I like to use the "If you don't like the new Star Wars, watch the old ones" attitude in situations like this, and I know I can always look back at Gen 4, but not everyone would feel the same as me. How would YOU react? Do you think Gen 5 could exceed in what Gen 4 is accomplishing right now, or become a entirely new show for the worse?
