  1. I'm sure this thread has been posted multiple times, but I figured to give it a new kick start! Anypony here play MTG? What kinds of formats do you like to play? What's your favorite color (or color combination) to play? As for me, I like Commander, and my favorite color combo is UWR, or Jeskai/America. Hoping to chat Magic with anyone here!
  2. I've been playing the pokemon tcgo for a while, I stopped for a while, then I got back on. Anyone want to exchange friending information? Maybe if any of you guys show up at Trotcon we can play, using the physical cards.
  3. Believe it or not, MLP has two card games out. First, the official Collectible Card Game (CCG), which has been hosted at tournaments ranging from BronyCon to GenCon. A game where you use tokens to deploy pony cards of differing attriubtes, events and items in an attempt to work together and overcome problem cards played by the opponent and the accompanying trouble makers who hinder your efforts, while they do the same against you, each card played effecting everything from number of cards in the hand, what you draw, how many tokens you can spend and who you can move. Whomever can achieve up to the required level of points by solving every problem and vanquishing every troublemaker gets the W. A very unique strategy game in the grand scheme. And on the other side, we have Twilight Sparkles Secret Shipfic Folder (TSSSF), the unofficial, lucrative fan produced game that has spread to every Brony convention across the land. A game that plays upon the more comedic aspects of the fandom by having the focus be on by pairing characters in the game together in branching relationships using the shipping cards, each pony and ship card having it's own effect on the board, and all being used to meet the varying demands of the goal cards. Initially developed as a bit of a party game, the overarching idea was to essentially write and play out really bad fanfics using the most convoluted and nonsensical romance tropes and pairings imaginable, with comedic variants of popular characters, the addition of fan OCs and even flavor text allegedly taken from actual fanfics. But over time TSSSF has evolved into it's own serious strategy game, tactically playing the right cards together to achieve the goals in the fastest time. So with the candidates layed out, which card game was more successful? For those that have, which one was more fun to play? And for those who haven't played either, which sounds like the better game to play?
  4. Hi, some of you may know me already, but to those that don't I occasionally do various art bits for Poniverse and am a full-time university student in illustration and visual communication. I've been developing a table-top card game for awhile now and am nearly at a point in which I can test the game with outside peoples. The game is called "Tribute to the Overlord". This project has a few goals: To be a refined piece for my personal portfolio, Test myself in finishing such a comprehensive project, and get a tiny foothold in tabletop game development (I have other ideas I'd like to develop one day). "You and your demonic friends must appease your Overlord by offering tribute every day. You’re all sick of being on the bottom and agree to start collecting loot so that you can takeover the Overlord's position. Unfortunately, none of you can agree on who the next Overlord should be. Amass more loot then everyone else in order to overthrow the Overlord and take your rightful place on top. But getting greedy risks the rage of the current Overlord, who won’t go easy on any of you. So build your stash in secret, back-stab your friends and give as little as you can manage to the Overlord to stay out of trouble." Tribute to the Overlord is a bit of a deck building card game that pits players against each other and a common board enemy. There are 5 rounds; the situation and cards to deal with it change every turn. There are various strategies implemented to combat total RNG but the game should be able to be picked up and learned in half an hour or less. The game is targeted at player groups of about 4 or 5 but can physically be played with groups ranging from 2-6. Target age group is early 20's to early 30's but could be played comfortably ages 12+. The past few months I have been working on this on and off in between personal projects and working side jobs, school stuff and the occasional Poniverse thing. Most of the focus has been on the rules and gameplay up to this point. Now I'm dividing my time between game balancing and art. Now I'm looking for candidates to play-test this game and give feedback, help balance and find game loop-holes I may have missed. I'll be shipping out around 10 prototype copies of this game sometime in February (or thereabouts depending on how the next school semester fairs for me). These copies will be shipped out free to those living in the US. I currently will not be shipping elsewhere; but if you fill out the provided form you'll be sent updates on the game and be notified if I get an international thing going. I'm shipping these out for free in return for feedback, if you can't or don't plan on proving feedback or testing it for problems, don't bother signing up. If your interested in signing up to get a free alpha copy and helping this game become complete in it's design; please fill out this form here. Please note that this is NOT first come first serve, I'll be semi-selectively choosing candidates to test various bits. Also, as stated this is an ALPHA where the focus so far has been primarily on gameplay and functionality, the art is mostly wip or in a placeholder state right now. It is quite likely that it will be in a similar state when these copies are shipped as well. Meaning it may not be a pretty game, but it'll work. The Beta phase of the game is a ways off, but will have nearly completed art and enforce the necessary updates found in the alpha. If you agree to get updates on the form above then you may get sent a Beta copy. So don't worry if you arn't offered an Alpha. Some card design teasers. If you have follow-up questions, feel free to ask.
  5. I'm not any good at Hearthstone much myself. Can barely get past the minimum 20 rank, so I could probably use a teacher about it. But I am looking forward to the new Mean Streets of Gadgetzan expansion. You can see the details about each of the gangs over on the offical website, if you want. (I'm sure it'll be the first thing up on google, don't make me do the legwork, I just got done eating!) I'm on the fence between two of them so I was wondering if the rest of you already had your minds set on which way you were going! Also, who gets the reference?!!?
  6. Anyone into the CCG game like me?
  7. Not sure if i should grab a fatpack of innistrad or another commander precon to mess with. I'm leaning towards the fatpack. Also, for the same price I could get the last 4-5 cards for my niv-mizzet EDH. Anyway, I know at least some of you play mtg as well. Can we get a general discussion thread going?
  8. So, I've been working on a card game i thought of a while ago. and if you have a card idea make sure the character in it is a canon character, or something that can be changed in the finished cards you can suggest it below in the comments. Please note that this is not supposed to be something i intend earn money off of once it's finished. That and the vectors were not created by me. But the card stats were chosen by me, along with the colors of the boxes around the character vectors.
  9. Good evening Everypony! Sēkr here, with the newest project/obsession that I've had an absolute joy to work on these past couple days. This is a new card game idea that features Lamiaponies, Diamond dogs, tricky magic, and plenty of crystals. I wanted to show my game thus far, and get any feedback from the community. If you have any additional questions, don't be afraid to comment below or even PM me. I'll try update the OP as the game is polished, thanks to your many wonderful comments. An Important Note is that I’ve yet to make all of the mock-ups yet, and as such this game is still largely theory, having not been properly playtested. This will change in the coming hours, as I complete my supplies. Mock Up cards built! Alpha testing and balancing in progress! Many thanks in advance to anybody that actually takes the time to read through all of this Crystal Caves Game
  10. Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone here plays Tabletop simulator, maybe we could gather a small group to play stuff together. MLP related or not.
  11. -if I tagged this wrong in any way, my apologies- So, yugioh. That card game that was once on motorcycles! I couldn't find a thread on it already around, and I think I'm not the only one here that likes it. Whether it be the anime, the movies(yes, there are a few), the manga, the animations, or just the plain 'ol card game, here we speak of it. This can also double as a YGO PRO discussion and meet, as well as any fan made cards you make! Just have fun, and play a few rounds of a children's card game, or just remember when Pegasus just was a strong duelist!
  12. Just wondering if any of you play Magic: The Gathering , if so what is your favourite colour combination? I play a Green and White centaur deck =3 and i have a Derpy hooves play mat. i also am working on a Blue and white Flying deck and a Black and White extort deck. friendship is Magic What is your favourite kind of deck ? do you like certain mechanics such as Heroic, Populate, Flying, Hexproof ect.
  13. I have just gotten into the MLP CCG and I LOVE IT!! It's like magic the gathering in a way; the 2 decks i have built from scratch are a Blue and Purple ( start card is Rainbow Dash) and the other is Yellow and White ( start card is Fluttershy) Do any you you play it if so what you think of it =) ? to me its a good game but is mostly for bronies because most younger girls (6-12 age) won't be able to play the game properly as it is a bit complex, then again i could be wrong. BTW i have this card in the blue and purple deck
  14. I have had trouble finding people to play this game online with me and my friend. If you are interested send me a friend request on skype at epicyoshi2. We do require you to be at least 14 years old, Speak decent English, and not be a horrible person. I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place because I'm new to this site and I am very lost.
  15. Hello MLP Forums and welcome to the Board Game Discussion Thread. This is where we talk all things related to board games and card games. And before you write the whole subject off as boring or uninteresting, it might surprise you to know of the explosive creativity in board games these last few years that has been alive just beyond your sight. If you're curious, try looking up: Agricola Factory Fun Forbidden Island Incan Gold Life Boat Pandemic Puerto Rico Zombiecide (By the way, here, we hate Settler of Catan
  16. Since I couldn't find a topic that was already covering this, here it is! Twilight Sparkle's Secret Shipfic Folder (TSSSF). It's a free collectable card game about Twilight Sparkle's horrible shipfics. Equestria Daily Article. How many ways do I like this game before I've even played it? 1) Shipfics are fun. They're amusing. They're silly. Sometimes they're genuinely romantic. 2) Poking fun at Twilight's fan fiction is the perfect charm a game like this needs. 3) The game has so many ridiculous references it's impossible not to laugh. 4) The scoring mechanics behind laying your cards down is brilliant (says a serious board gamer). I can't believe it, but this game sounds like card gaming gold.
  17. I am a serious board game fanatic. Since I know there are several people on this forum who follow real board gaming news I decided to ask some advice because this has been on my mind for a while. According to sources the best game on the market today is Twilight Imperium. Now, if my own board game was set in a school for mages without sounding like a Harry Potter rip off, what would other designers do to make this game entertaining? How would you like to see it designed? (Update) In my mind, the game is so far an open-ended sandbox game about scoring victory points if it's competitive and completing a common goal if it's cooperative. Like Puerto Rico, every round is a phase where each player can do one type of action. Their goals are to finish and present assignments given to them before an assignment becomes overdue. I haven't worked out combat yet. I also think there is an underlying story that makes the setting more danger for players after each turn and a bad guy to defeat at the very end or something. I don't know what advice I'll get but I was just curious to ask.
  18. I am a die hard fan of board games. And no, I'm not talking about familiar games like Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly or Sorry. I'm talking about real games like Puerto Rico, Twilight Imperium, Pandemic, Agricola and Ticket to Ride. Is there anyone else who's found that rediscovered interest in board games we've had in the last ten or fifteen years?
  19. Why they/somepony don't make an online game card? And maybe support the company that sells this cards? (So they don't get trouble with the copyright)
  20. So I'm kinda going out on a limb here but I was wondering if anyone on these forums who is going to bronycon this year might also want to duel there. I really want to duel at this year's con. I'd really like to meet more bronys who are also duelists. This is my 4th bronycon btw.
  21. I want some animal/monster art to add to some cards I'm gonna make. The cards are going to have random attack and defense attributes just like Yu Gi Oh!. Also if you have any art for action cards I can use it as well. I am not going to pay anyone so I am just asking for art that you may want to do something with or just make me some for the fun of it. I'm going to make it have a computer game that as you progress you gain cards to print out. If you have any art that you would like to contribute please send it to jfizzelo@gmail.com. Thanks in advance to anyone who wants help me with this project and please send some game suggestions to my email or below as well.
  22. The card you see below took me all afternoon to put together and it is the first preview of a MLP board/card game I have in the works. Don't hold your breath. The game in my head proves increasingly complex by design and maybe it will never see the light of day. None-the-less, I seriously crave some oppinions after finally finishing this very first card.
  23. Would anypony be interested in plying a game of mlp ccg with me over skype? Well if anypony does you can add me my skype is eric.moorer
  24. okay so just picked up both starter decks and I have one question, let's say I have Professor Neigh http://mlpccg.wikia.com/wiki/Professor_Neigh,_Algebraic!_(Premiere) at a problem like It's Alive http://www.heartofthecards.com/code/mlpcardlist.html?cardnum=177 and you use apples and Oranges on it http://www.heartofthecards.com/code/mlpcardlist.html?cardnum=98 would that fulfill It's Alive's requirements?
  25. I hope this is OK to do - if not, mods please remove the post! I interviewed Gail Tilden, the VP of Marketing at Enterplay, for the latest episode of my podcast. Enterplay, of course, have just launched the MLP Collectible Card Game in North America and have plans to unleash it worldwide throughout 2014. We talk about how Enterplay work with Hasbro, how the game came about and a lot more besides. The interview with Gail takes up the first twenty or so minutes of the show, so don't feel like you have to listen to the rest of it (though it's good, I promise ) You can search for Episode 72 of The Little Metal Dog Show on iTunes or download it directly from the site. Here's the link: http://littlemetaldog.com/2013/12/19/episode-72-friendship-is-spacecraft/ Thanks for listening! And I'm trying to co-ordinate an interview with Darrell Hardy, one of the lead developers of the game, for the next episode of the show. If that comes off, I'll post it up here too.
