  1. I usually hear from non-watchers that they believe Bronies are non-working cellar dwelling loners. I'm keen to bust this myth as I know Bronies who have quite successful careers. I'm quite curious to hear what the community does for a living. I for one am a graphic design in a small firm. It's pretty awesome, I even sneak in some cheeky pony fan art on the quite hours.
  2. I'm setting a goal for the month. Workout each day after school. Daily 25 or more pushups. Eat better. Make Seth Great!!

    Job Forum

Hey all, I, and I imagine a lot of others, would like to see a forum on the topic of discussing jobs or the lack of: coping with a job, switching career paths, or hunting for a job. For Bronies looking for a job or looking to expand their network, this forum can be helpful. Resume feedback or LinkedIn exchanges would also take place here. The forums under Octavia's Hall may be great for those who make a living from artistic pursuits, but what about those in the "non artistic" fields? In a way, this can be similar to Life Advice, but from what I've seen, Life Advice has been about school, relationships, and mental health. I imagine this would belong in Beyond Equestria. Thanks!
  4. If there is one thing I want to do in my life, it's to become a comedian. The only problem is that I don't know where to start. I have many ideas for material and all that, but I just don't know where to start. Is there a place I can go to do a couple acts and test the waters? Should I try standing out on the street with a money bucket and tell jokes with an amp and a microphone? This is my problem. I know what I want to do for a career, but I don't know where to start. Making a LOT of money won't come overnight, I understand that, but where can I start on that path? I've done miniature comedy acts for some friends, but I'm looking for bigger audiences. I have the jokes and the routines, but not a place to do them at. How do I sign up for this stuff? I mean, don't think I'm in the comedian thing just for the money. I mean yes, thats one part of it, but its more than just that. I want to be able to make a living off of something I really enjoy doing.
  5. Hi everypony :0 I'm new to this forum, this is my first post so sorry in advance for any mistakes :') As a young artist, I find myself wondering about my future all the fking time, and I'm not worried at all about IF I can get money in the future- I know I can- but it's more about HOW I'm going to make that money. I really don't want to end up with a miserable job that I hate. I want to make all of the right choices so that I can wake up every morning happy to be doing what I'm doing. About three years ago I started drawing ponies on my phone for fun, and my interest in art has only grown since. I've made so much progress in art and I can pretty comfortably say that I can draw anything I want to, given enough time and the right materials. But ever since I started drawing ponies on my phone, I just can't really shake the fact that I like to draw them more than anything else. Ponies really make me happy and they make me enjoy art so much. I would really, reeeally love to have a job where I can wake up every day and just draw ponies to my fking heart's content, but I can't seem to fathom a way that I could do that... So, put yourself into my shoes. You know the goal, how do I get there? Growing an art account maybe, but what site- Instagram, tumblr, deviantart, all of the above? And what content do I post- a comic with original ideas or fanart for the show characters? I'm very open to suggestions since I have a lot of time on my hands, but what areas do you think I should spend my time on in order to grow the fastest? Would starting a Patreon or YouTube channel be a good idea? Feel free to reply with any thoughts, and if you know of any pony artists who live off of their art, it would be awesome to hear about them.
  6. Anyone ever had a boss that you just wanted to drop kick in front of customers, laugh ludicrously, and carry on with your life? I've had many, and thankfully most of them have been dethroned or dishonored.
  7. I was at the station last weekend and we had some downtime. I'm not exactly sure how we got to this topic but my partner asked if you had the opportunity to back in time and try your hand at life again, would you do it? You would go back to the first day of high school but retain the memory you have at this moment. Would you go back and see if things turn out different? Or are you happy how things turned out, or at least accepted your fate and have moved on. At first I said yes. Like everyone else, I've made some mistakes that I wish I could go back and correct. I would get help for my ADHD instead of trying to go it alone. I would be able to stay focused long enough to do well in school. I scored 29 on the ACT the first time around, maybe I could score higher and go to some fancy college. I was contacted by West Point in high school, maybe I would look into that more instead of dismissing it. And I would definitely treat some people differently, both better and worse. However as the night wore on, I began to think about it more. Would I really do anything different? I had a great group of friends, most of which I still talk to. My best friend from high school is still my best friend today. I didn't particularly like going to school anyway. I hated my classes, but most of them were required to graduate so that couldn't be changed. I might have said something to girls I didn't the first time, and stayed away from some I did. But that could drastically change things too. I was single when I graduated, so I went to a college far from my home. If I was dating someone, would I have even gone? Going to that college, and subsequently dropping out, made me realize I was heading down the wrong career path. And the college near home I transferred to after that, and again dropped out of, made me realize that maybe traditional college isn't right for me either. Maybe I would have gone to some fancy school and probably dropped out of it, costing me way more than the $4,000 I owe now. Maybe I wouldn't drop out and I would graduate, but would I be happy with that career choice as I am now? The only thing I can honestly say I would definitely change would be that I would have opened my mind to MLP sooner. But I graduated before FiM started, so it wouldn't have done me any good then. After thinking long and hard about it, I would say no. I would not go back and try again. Sure I've made a lot of mistakes, but those mistakes have shaped my life into a one I can honestly say I enjoy. I have good friends and I'm happy with my career choice. What more can you ask from life? (Wow, this went on waaay longer than I planned. Sorry bout that.) tl;dr: No, I would not. So, the question still stands... If you had the chance to go back and do things differently, would you do it? EDIT: You can go back as far as you want. From the day you were born to this morning, and any time in between. High school was just the time we chose.
  8. It changed so much, my first job I wanted was to be a singer, then a comedian, then a comedian in sitcoms, then an archeologist, then I wanted to be an osteologist to dig up dinosaur bones and the like. Now I have no idea what I want to be, but I wish maybe to be an animator. or maybe voice actor? who knows where life will take me after highschool, and that is soon.
  9. Hey there! Just curious how many engineers bronies are out there! A bit about myself: I'm currently a sophomore at Purdue University, studying aeronautical engineering. I'd like to work for either a general or defense aviation company someday, possibly as a test engineer or airframe designer. If you're studying to become an engineer or already work in the field, tell me a bit about you! Any advice, stories, or just about anything about the field you'd like to share? I'd sure love to hear it!
