  1. Note: Some content from Season 8 was leaked near the end of last year. While much of it is officially revealed, much isn't. So, please keep leaked content under the tag and don't post or link leaked assets. Zap2It first announced the episode's title and date, and Hasbro released their August lineup on July 20. Episode synopsis C&P'd from the linked PDF. Title: Friendship University Airtime: Boomerang/Australia: August 5, 8:30am AU Time. Disc. Fam./U.S.: August 11, 11:30am EST Writers: Chris "Doc" Wyatt & Kevin Burke Synopsis: When Twilight Sparkle discovers there's another School of Friendship, she and Rarity go to investigate and are shocked to discover that Twilight's idol and Pillar of Old Equestria, Starswirl the Bearded, is enrolled at the school. 2. Recently I watched Ant-man and the Wasp, and I realized one big thing about me when it comes to judging characters. In Disney's Coco, the protagonist is the worst character I have ever seen in any animated motion picture. The character must face the consequences of it's own actions. And this aspect is deeply connected to the story itself, as if all characters are deeply connected to it's own story. Of course there are lots of things to consider when judging a character, but I would focus on this aspect. When it comes to the characters of MLP, I don't like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Not just because they were cruel and mean to the CMCs, but because they were characters that hardly suffer their consequences. The only time I saw it happen was when Diamond Tiara was forced to wear a rabbit suit and do a thing that she made fun of early in Family Appreciation Day (S02E12). If shallow dumb mean bully characters built only for the sake of being mean bullies could face their consequences and get what they deserve every time, they could be characters that we love to hate and we care about, look forward to see them again. But most of the time, they didn't. Diamond and Silver were being totally harsh, and they went away with it. The problems they created was left for others (CMCs) to solve. It helps making us hate certain characters and root for other characters, but it isn't satisfying that much. But it doesn't mean that all dumb bully villains are bad characters. After all, we love villains like Biff in Back to the Future or Harry and Marv from Home Alone. Trixie faced the consequences of her actions. So even she is still pretty much the same old cocky mare, we love her. (and of course she actually changed) Think of how much people hate Pinkie Pie for her often causing problems but not facing the consequences. Good that she has good episodes that shows she's not totally an inconsiderate crazy pony. Rarity faced her consequences. She got dirt on her dress, felt guilty for her actions, fell from Cloudsdale. Guilda, Nightmare Moon, Zephyr Breeze, Chrysalis, Discord, all faced their consequences. Do you know who didn't faced it's own consequence? Starlight Glimmer. She didn't got what she deserve, didn't fixed her pathological behavior of overreacting, she got what she always wanted, she got forgiven, she's friends with the princess and everybody loves her. I couldn't clearly explain some of the parts why I disliked her in the first place, but I think I am more clear about why. Flim Flam brothers seems like they face their consequences every time because they always get caught, but the truth is quite the opposite. The fact that they come up with another scam every time with no remorse and no damage taken, and most ponies except for the mane six gets fooled every time proves this. If they have had faced their consequences in the first place, Flim Flam brothers couldn't show up the second time as crooks. The only time they suffered the consequence was in Best Gift Ever. (but some might say this wasn't a scam, ponies were just stupid to buy it) Sludge got away from what he did without any harm to himself, but he got revealed and won't be welcomed anymore. And that's why I don't want him to return. It won't work and it would be stupid. Cozy Glow and Chancellor Neighsay are particular cases because one goes to prison in hell and the other gets locked up by a pony and gets rescued by non-pony creatures. You could say they get what they deserve. But in this case, there are way more bigger flaws about them. Maybe I will talk about it later. I like the moment when the villain steps on his own banana peeling and flips upside down. Or in a brutal final fight scene where the bad guy's own weapon backfires on him like Ben-Hur. Bruce Lee kicking a guy to a spear. I like to see characters get what they deserve for the sake of a good satisfying story and likable good/bad characters. That's why the moment Spike gets a cup of ice cream from Twilight in P.P.O.V. (S06E22) is so memorable and satisfying to me. And if the story is more of a character driven story, this becomes more important. Choices that characters make are important. If there is no consequences to an action, the choices becomes irrelevant, the character becomes irrelevant, the story becomes irrelevant. I'm curious about what you think about consequences in MLP, or stories in general.
  3. Dunno if this has been posted yet, but apparently a trailer was released at San Diego Comic Con for the second half of the current season (videotaped quality, but it's the best so far I can find) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-tYqzS-m4w Looks pretty exciting with the return of the villains (including Storm King, my favorite Rafiki-Yeti dude XD) The Mane Cast also seems to be headed to Tartarus to check on Tirek, and we even get to say Chancellor Neighsay return. And it looks like he's an outright villain at this point, locking up the students (and declaring "The Reign of Twilight Sparkle is Over")? My thoughts? To be honest, I feel like the season premiere wasn't too well done and Neighsay's motivations and actions were simultaneously kinda understandable and confusing. So I don't know, I think it'd be better to make him an outright villain, since it may actually provide a decent ulterior motive to not wanting to open the friendship school. My guess is he's actually a disguise for some long-time villain of the Princesses and/or ponies? In a hurry now so sorry if I sound a little incoherent with that last paragraph; I may update when I have time. Thoughts?
  4. Ever since his debut in this Season 8's premire "School Daze", and with what was previewed at SDCC in the trailer for the 2nd half of Season 8. The Question everyone/everybony/everypegasister has is, "WHAT'S HIS PROBLEM?" "WHAT'S HIS BACKSTORY TO MAKE HIM LIKE THIS? Well here, I try my best to figure that out and answer that question. Comments are Welcomed
  5. IF you recall at the end of School Daze, Twilight Sparkle would defy the E.E.A.'s rules and make her School of Friendship independent, even going as far as to shatter the lock that kept her school closed. This infuriated Chancellor Neighsay, and not helping was Princess Celestia's decision to side with her former pupil on the school. But in my mind, by doing this, both Twilight and Celestia are risking their Princess title just to expand the magic of Friendship. Not long ago, Canterlot was invaded by the armies of the STorm King, who is considered a Non-Pony creature by Equestria's standards. This winds up justifying Neighsay's stance against other creatures like Griffins, Dragons, Changelings, Yaks and Hippogryphs. But imagine if there was another invasion by another Non-Pony creature(Or maybe the return of Tirek). That would give Neighsay's argument enough power to demand not only Twilight losing her status as the Princess of Friendship, but also Celestia losing her status as the Prime Princess of the Sun. How would you all feel if both Twilight and Celestia were no longer considered Princesses by the Equestrian Parliament because of their decision to cater to non-Pony races?
  6. I talked about this in the MLP Season 8 School Daze Discussion, but I want to take this to the forefront. As you are aware, Hasbro released an Animatic on the upcoming Season 8 Premier featuring a vocal appearance by Chancellor Neighsay. However, the biggest surprise isn't the Chancellor's role in the story, but who voices him. It was confirmed by Jim Miller on Twitter, but Chancellor Neighsay is voiced by none other than Animaniacs actor Maurice LaMarche, also known as the Brain(The main Lab Mouse who wants to take over the world), along with Squit the Goodfeather. Outside of Animaniacs, Maurice was also known as Dizzy Devil on Tiny Toon Adventures(Along with an Orson Wells-like character named Orson Whales Mr Freeze on the Batman Arkham Video Game series Yosemite Sam on Tiny Toons, Looney Tunes Show and New Looney Tunes Nightshift on Skylanders Grand Master Wizard, plus other characters on Adventure Time Dr Egon Spengler on the Real Ghostbusters General Var Suthra on Star Wars: The Old Republic Inspector Gadget on a number of small projects, including the Super Mario Bros Super Show(Live Action scenes) Mortimer Mouse on Mickey Mouseworks and the House of Mouse Sleet on Sonic Underground Took over as the voice of Destro on GI Joe Six-Gun on the Transformers And Chief Charles Burns, and a number of other characters, on Transformers: Rescue Bots. So what's your thoughts on Maurice LaMarche getting a voice over role on My Little Pony? One who's do alot of voices in our childhoods? Personally, I was surprised when I found out that was his voice. On Equestria Daily, fans were also cheering the addition of a well-known LA Actor(Who also came from Canada, surprisingly).
