  1. If you're a closet brony, that is. How do you keep your brony status hidden from the outside world? I'm not officially a closet brony, but I don't shout it to the world and I'm trying to make most of my family forget. In other words, I'm in the doorway. I usually have any and all MLP-related site tabs in a different browser window so I can click away if I hear someone coming. I keep my volume down and/or headphones in at all costs, and if I here the slightest noise the episode is usually paused, the laptop closed, the headphones off, and the book open for the next fifteen minutes. ...Okay, that last bit was an exaggeration. But I still try to be very careful. My pony merchandise (if I ever get any) would be hidden away in my junk drawer, which nopony ever opens. And I try to keep excuses at the ready, but I'm not good at coming up with them other than "Oh, I'm just looking at gifts for my little sister" or "Mom, my sister wants to watch My Little Pony on Netflix, is that okay?" And those aren't always bought. What about you? How do you keep that closet door shut?
  2. This is a question for for anyone out there who is a (former) closet brony. just as the title says: when did you come out? or are you planning to? I just said to everyone, yup I`m a brony, I did not have a time in the closet as it were, so I`m quite intrested in (former) closet brony stories.
  3. So I hear a lot of people calling themselves "closet bronies". They like the show and have all the same characteristics of "regular" bronies, but don't like to tell others about it. What do you think of the whole term "closet brony"? Should we have a totally seperate term for fans of MLP who don't like to broadcast, or does it even matter? Is someone only a brony if they openly endorse the show, or should it apply to any brony, regardless of whether they watch it in secret or in public?
  4. So I have only been a brony for about 4 months now, and when I let all my friends know, I got mocked a lot. But one of my friends was really curious as to why I liked the show, and after giving it a shot, he decided he liked it and thus became a brony. However, he made me promise to never tell any of my other friends and to keep it a secret. I appreciate that he's joined the herd, but whenever I get into a situation where I'm being derided for watching MLP, he is silent and scared to be uncovered. What do you think of bronies that you know are closet bronies? Do you find them cowardly? Does it annoy you that they sit on the sidelines whenever MLP comes up in conversation to protect themselves? Personally, I don't really mind. If they were insulting me to save face, then I would mind, but that situation currently hasn't come up with any of my friends. What do you think?
  5. I've heard plenty of this show's fans talk about being "in the closet", "in the brony closet", or what have you with regards to the fondness of this show. I have also heard plenty of people say that it is insensitive and unkind to use these terms, as it makes light of the struggles faced by the LGBT+ community, for whom the term was coined. I personally am still a bit unsure on the matter, so I would like to hear from the queer bronies on this issue, as we are of course the ones most well-equipped to discuss it. Since this is my thread, I suppose we'll start with my opinion. I was raised in an environment that taught me to be disgusted by my sexuality. It took me a long time to accept my feelings, and once I accepted them I still took a long time to come out, and to a lot of people in my family I still haven't. I have overtly homophobic relatives, and even the supportive ones could use improvement (my mother, for example, initially cried and tried to talk me out of it when I came out). Despite what I've faced as a bisexual, I still cannot find it in me to be upset by bronies using the same terms I use. I've felt like I had to hide my love of My Little Pony as well, and in certain circles I am even more afraid of receiving ridicule and hatred for my fandom than for my sexuality. I cannot in good conscience bar the terms from anyone who feels they identify with them, because I don't believe anyone should be made to feel like they have to hide who they are or what they love, even if it is as simple as a television show.
  6. This is something I think is worth sharing.
  7. For those of you who don't know him, Tyler, The Creator is a relatively popular musician in the hip-hop industry known for his extreme lyrics and original style. He self-released his album Bastard in 2009, Goblin in 2011 while starting to gain a larger fanbase and winning the MTV Best New Artist award, and now has released his album Wolf only yesterday. He also leads the rap collective Odd Future Wolf Gang. He is also on the show Loiter Squad on adult swim. Evidence 1: Lyrics about ponies/unicorns and related interview This has already been discussed in another thread on another site. He has a song referring to ponies and said that he likes ponies in an interview. Link: Evidence 2: Fan of other cartoons He likes Adventure Time as said in his song "Yonkers" and was in Regular Show. Evdience 3: Says "My Little Pony" in last song on new album In the song "Lone", for the first time he explicitly says "my little pony", but is referring to his friend. This is no coincidence. I believe that he is telling us that he likes the show without admitting it directly. Admitting it directly would cause anti-bronies to be mad. This way he tells us that he likes the show and makes us bronies happy. Link to lyrics(see verse 1): Why would he hide being a brony when he doesn't care what people think? Although he has the attitude of not caring what people think of him, there still is some social stigma of being a brony. He probably doesn't want to lose any fans that are anti-brony, and there are a lot of anti-bronies out there. I personally think this is a good thing. Next time someone thinks I'm weird for being a brony, I'll tell them Tyler, The Creator is a brony then they'll probably think I'm cool. Just by him being a brony can make us more accepted by people who are confused about the MLP fandom. I already tell people that deadmau5 is a brony. Any opinions or additional evidence is encouraged.
  8. Maria and the Children once said: "Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start." To that I say "Nah." Recently I hit a milestone in my life. I told 5 people that I watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. In a period of time lacking anything exciting in my life, this was a big step forward. Stick around and see just what happened in the wondrous tale of... The Chronicles of Sir. Loin: The First Few Jumps! Ahem. Many people say that jumping out of a plane is addictive. That first jump is the hardest but get it out of the way and the fear goes down. For me, this is how I felt telling people I was a Brony. To make it easier, my first person I told is one of the most understanding people I met. Here's what happened. Jump One: Getting rolling: "Hey Adam, can you keep a secret?" <Go for it.> "On Memebase, have you ever heard of the Brony Fandom?" <Yes.> "I'm now part of it." <Really?> "Yes. Really" <Cool story, bro.> So that was it. The moment I was so worked up over was gone. That first jump was completed and I was ready to take on the world. Sort of. I decided that the next person I should tell would be one of my life-long friends, Joshua. He was less understanding than Adam but we both joked about each other and what we like (Choices in football teams, who is best at Rainbow 6, how useful knowing almost every plane is in day to day life etc.) One other thing helped. Adam was next to us when I told Josh so I had a mark of initial success to spur me on. Jump 2: Keeping the Pace: "Josh, can you keep a secret?" (Sound familiar?) <I'll try.> "You must keep this one, others will know when I tell them." <Tell them what?> "You know Memebase? Have you seen any bits about Bronies?" (Yeah, 2 Memebasers.) <Yes.> "I am one." <Meh.> That was the second person and it only boosted my confidence further. Not only did I now have two people in the know and who would joke and talk about ponies, but I also became able to listen to Brony and Show Music in the IT suite at school (through headphones) without my two friends finding out I like MLP without me being honest and open. Jump 3 came a few weeks later. At school, a large group of us got together after school and played Open Arena with one of the teachers who had managed to get it put on the "school shared drive" with only a few able to see it. Everyone named their character and started repeatedly firing and launching rockets at each other. Most people picked fairly un-original names such as Your Mum but I decided to go for broke. I choose to use Doctor Whooves. Risky? Definitely. When I finally killed someone, the words "Your Mum ate Doctor Whooves' rocket." flashed on screen. The person I killed asked the group "Who is Doctor Whooves?" I put my hand up and said me. Unbeknownst to me, Jump 3 was on. Jump 3: Double Whammy. <Who is Doctor Whooves?> "That would be me" <Oh cool. Are you a Brony?> "Eeyup." [i've heard of them.] (Quite how Liam knew this is still unknown.) <I've always had respect for them. I'm a furry myself.> "Cool. What's your name?" <Marcus.> So there was another huge jump. Someone who, at the time, was an utter stranger found out alongside Liam who was sitting next to me. My first time I told someone without planning a few hours before. Thankfully, my Silver Tongue helped me from getting worked up for no reason. After that, there was a pause. Until yesterday. That's right, Jump 4 was incredibly recent. This one though was all set up for me. I had gone over my friend's house for a day to have some fun. He knew full well how bad I was at FPS games online. Just for fun, he set me up a game of Counter Strike: Global Offensive. It's safe to say that I died. A lot. However, in the game was a player called "MLP:FiM King of the Sombrero Republic". Jump 4 was imminent but split into two. Jump 4: Turning up the Difficulty: "Hey look. Someone here likes My Little Pony. I'll message him." <Bit late, they just left.> [iNTERMISSION: IMAGINE TWO TEENAGERS PLAYING PORTAL] "Aaron, can you keep a secret?" (Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.) <Fine.> "The only reason I knew that person earlier liked My Little Pony was because I watch it. <Haha. Wow (My name withheld.), seriously?> "Yeah." That jump was not the easiest but could have been worse. Aaron isn't always the most understanding and I can only hope the secret stays with him. If you started with us for the entire entry then great! Otherwise, here's a summary. "It may some hard at first but you don't know till you've attempted it. It may go wrong at first or you may be scared of the outcomes but every experience is learning experience, teaching you what to do and what to avoid the time you try." Thank you for taking the time to read this wall of text and who knows, maybe soon I'll tell my first family member about the magic of Friendship.
  9. This morning may have changed my life forever! So for those who know me on here, you all know I've been under a bit of stress for having to hide from the world my Pansexuality (attraction to all gender identities and physical sexes) in the fear of my homophobic family. Its something I wish I could just be more open about and not have to hide in fear about. Especially from my own family. Family shouldn't hate one of their own because of something they cannot help. Anyway, I used to only be able to discuss my woes about this sorta thing on private blogs or to friends on these forums. BUT NOT TODAY! This morning I was talking to my best friend. She herself is bisexual and often defends her gay brother. Aside from her being my best friend, she's the perfect candidate for someone I can trust with these issues. This morning I decided to break the news to her! And she accepted me in open arms! And man was coming out to just one person privately quite the experience on its own. It was probably the scariest thing I have ever done in my life. I knew I could trust her, but still... I'd just fear things going wrong in impossible ways. This is just something that causes a lot of stress and a lot of fear for me. But it went off without a hitch! She accepted me and agreed to keep things silent for now. Though she didn't quite understand my fears she has agreed to not tell anyone without asking me first. It was a scary experience that I'm still a little uneasy about, buy MAN does it feel good to feel accepted! I mean I've had friends on here who have accepted me for over a year now, but this is the first person who actually lives near me and is near and dear to my heart that knows this and fully accepts this about me! Its been quite a morning! Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Hearth's Warming to everypony! And have a happy New Year!
  10. So when you were a kid, and you were alone, in the dark in your room, and you were scared of you closet, What did you imagine was in there? When did you realize it wasn't even a monster? Post below! I also made a poll for common monsters! Mine was a basic Stereotypical Monster, You know, All green and Furry with claws and Razor Sharp Teeth!
  11. ? Lol! I was watching A bird in the hoof (Or whatever it was called) and near the beginning she Fluttershy says "Oh! Do I look alright? do I need to bring anything?" and looks at the clothes in her closet. She has Twilight and pinkie pies gala dresses! (and hers) Maybe they just look similar? XD lol just a little thing I thought was funny.
