  1. A true, true friend helps a friend in need A friend will be there to help them see A true, true friend helps a friend in need To see the light that shines from a true, true friend There’s a pretty good chance that you know someone who is going through a difficult time in their life. Perhaps they’ve lost their job, had a family member pass away, or are generally feeling blue. You’d like to help, but it isn’t always easy to gauge what exactly you can do for them. That’s why I’m happy to announce the opening of the Gallery of Goodwill. This project, devised and managed by skysweep, provides an opportunity to put the spirit of generosity into action. The concept is simple: donations are submitted into a fund created by skysweep which allows people to request artwork to be made for someone they know who could use a pick-me-up. Those making the requests don’t need to spend a dime of their own money. This means you can spread some much needed cheer simply by putting in a request. Thanks to skysweep’s efforts and the abundance of talent in our community, several of our own artists who sell commissions here on MLP Forums have agreed to help out. They’ll be compensated for their work through the fund. We’re eager to have more artists come aboard; so drop skysweep and I a PM if you’re interested. If you’re interested in participating in the Gallery of Goodwill, you’re welcome to poke your head into the official event thread found here. You can submit donations, requests, and post any questions you may have. I should add that those who donate may receive handmade goodies from skysweep. Keep your eyes peeled! The Gallery of Goodwill, like all good things, won’t last forever, though. The project is slated to end on June 14 or when the fund is depleted -- whichever comes first. If you want to brighten someone’s day with a piece of excellent fan art, you should get in on this as soon as you can. In the end, this community has proven to be incredibly charitable and loving. Whether it’s through Making Christmas Merrier or simply posting about ponies, your big-heartedness knows no boundaries or (quite literally) borders. I know that desire to give to others continues to burn strong within each of you. By joining the Gallery of Goodwill, you’ll help make an enormous difference in someone’s life -- no reality-bending magic required.
  2. Amazon is a huge industry, so much so that it probably plays a role in the world's economy. Sooo... WHY doesn't Amazon standardize (ergo force) the use Amazon Smile (AKA smile.amazon.com)? I'm honestly both amazed and confused at why you can shop at Amazon without going through Amazon Smile. Does anyone else use Amazon Smile? If so what charity do you/did you choose (you don't have to say if you don't want to)? If you are only now hearing about Amazon Smile now and have an Amazon account, you should definitely make the switch to Amazon Smile.
  3. I was asked to share THIS "GO FUND ME" LINK here at MLPF. It pertains to @Retro*Derpy and asks for donations towards the improvement of, essentially, his quality of life. He's in a very difficult situation and wants out, but he can't get out without the necessary funds. You can read more here. If you're unable to donate, please feel free to share the link with anyone who you think can. If enough people hear about Ian and chip in, it would only require a small contribution from each individual to meet their goal. Thanks for reading.
  4. As of now, I am currently not labelled as a Subscriber on MLP forums. However, I keep getting emails that have said that I am still a Helper and am automatically donating monthly. The bank I have has recently changed hands, and actually as of right now are of little help in this because of my current limited internet access and the fact the workers locally still are figuring things out. Am I still donating? Do you have records of it?
  5. Hi, so recently, I couldn't post in threads. I could make status updates, and reply to blog posts, but not forum topics, or even start new topics. Then I remembered that my donor status just expired. Sure enough, I donate, and suddenly I can post again. Is this a bug or something? Because I shouldn't need to be a donor to be allowed to post.
  6. This is a quick announcement! As of February 13, 2015, we have officially switched our main currency from the Canadian Dollar (CAD) to the US Dollar (USD). All future transactions and donations will thus be made in USD. Why was this change made? Over the past several years, the CAD was on par with, and even exceeded for a time, the worth of the USD. And because Feld0 is a Canadian citizen and resident, it made logistical sense to stick with his native currency. But now the USD is outperforming its Canadian counterpart. (America FTW!) Many of our members here use the USD as well. It’s therefore simpler for us and for you guys to deal in a more prevalent currency. How will this change affect you? Probably not very much. Transactions will work the same way as they have in the past. We’ve already alerted our artists and subscribers to the change so that they won’t miss a beat. If you haven’t received a PM from us regarding the switch, then you don’t need to do a thing. Now, for your entertainment: Flynn Rider and a unicorn on the island known as MLP Forums, surrounded by enormous piles of money.
  7. When you edit a post as a Member, it leaves that obnoxious little tag letting people know you edited it. I personally detest this thing, because I am one who often does one of the following, immediately after clicking the Post button: Finds something that could have been worded better Finds a blatant spelling error that he missed Needs to add information he forgot to add when initially drafting the post It's all well and good to tell people to plan their posts better and to not so hastily hit the post button, but even if more people were cautious about it, there would still be an overwhelming amount of people who run into these problems anyway, simply because human nature is to be impatient and miss things when you have an entire forum full of content that you're trying to move on to, after you finish this one particular post. Plus, Subscribers are the minority in the forum population, it's not that big a difference if they can bypass it. As a former staff with intense CDO, I suggest Subscribers have the option to not include that tag when making posts, just like moderators and other staff do. It's a really nice convenience that sucks to not have, after having had it. Like keeping the increased sig, avatar, username, PM storage permissions, etc, this feature should be another little addition that former staff and those who donate/subscribe to the site should have, as it's a simple, minor thing that I know a lot of people would appreciate, and that doesn't really make any difference in the long run. Staff can view post history with or without the glaring public tag, and as a former staff member, I know for a fact that checking post history isn't even something that needs to be done all that often, anyway. If I remember correctly, there's a simple little button that toggles whether or not a particular member group can choose to hide the post edit tag or not, so this should be a simple change to implement, assuming that it's agreed upon. That is all :3 V See, welcome to my nightmare D;

  9. Hello Everypony, I'm gonna divide this post into sections due to it being very complex. [Hiring Staff] : Q : You may say Hiring Staff Shouldn't this be under comissions? A : No, Most of the stuff under this section is just volunteers willing to help, that's exactly what i'm looking for, BUT because I Intend this "trilogy" to be a big deal, It may generate profit, If it does generate profit I'll evenly divide the total sum of profit between all volunteers and helper's Via Gift Voucher on here, or Paypal. (This is to be discusses at a later point, do not comment regarding it.) However if it does not generate profit, then we did it for good fun, and you'll all be well known by the viewers (#InItForTheFame) I will be making a http://www.donationstracker.com/ Setup directly linked to my paypal, to track all profits so that you know whats going on. [Advertising] : Q : How will this make any profit at all? A : I actually have a couple youtuber friends well known enough that have agreed to announce this trilogy to all their followers / subscribers... So a LOT of people will be watching this, and I'll be uploading the trilogy to MULTIPLE video platforms and money earning platforms (Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo...Etc) As well as creating a kickstarter campaign after the trilogy for a short film of this, now Minus the costs of making the film for kickstarter I will divide those profits between all volunteers as well. (IF we even succeed in this.) [success Rate] : Q : How much of a chance does this even have to be a big deal? A : Well considering I have 3 relatively Influential friend willing to promote this, along with the fact that I'll be advertising it everywhere, and you volunteers can tell your friends / family... I'd say this has huge potential. [Difference] : Q : What Makes this any different from other my little pony fan creations? A : Each episode of the trilogy is going to be 30 minutes long and have huge production value making it almost as good as 3 episodes of the real show... With a twist... [DETAILS & RECRUITMENT] : I currently Have 2 Voice Actors, Myself [Producer / Editor] , 1 minor animator , and a Writer for the script. What we need - Animators : We Have [1/4] - Voice Actors : We Have [2/6] - Sound Design (SFX / Scene Music) : We Have [0/2] - Advertising Campaign (People to promote the video across the big wide Interwebs) We have [3/5] [subsection] : Recruitment : How to Apply : Leave This Application form in the comments : (I'm online Everyday so you won't have to wait more then a day for your response / tasks) : Skillset : (Animator,Voice,SFX,Ads...) (Applicable only to Voice Actors) Gender : Experience In Your Skillset : (How many Years of practice / Education) What Makes You the right candidate for this ? (In your own words and opinion) I look forward to your replies, and have a wonderful day everypony! *BroHoof* /)
  10. At risk of accusation of being a concern troll and causing some kind of dramatic discussion, I'm going to bring this up, as it disturbed me quite a bit. In a separate forum from our own, someone pleaded for donations for a friend who suffered a stroke. The stroke victim is Pounce, a gamer brony and voice actor. In response, Tara Strong tweeted for donations, but with a prize attached to it. As it happened, her promised "sexy voices" were merely a joke, as seen in these vines. Now, I know, I know, Tara Strong loves to do the troll schtick. Any other context, this would've been hilarious. However, it was built on someone else's pain and tears. Even with positive intentions, to use it as an opportunity to troll feels in extreme bad taste. Is this the image we want to portray? Rather than simply asking fans to donate out of kindness, to help a fellow member of the fandom, she pandered for charity through trolling and the bait of sexualizing a children's character. Again, it was all in jest, but this kind of joke is so unbelievably inappropriate. I'm afraid it has eschewed my view of Tara. Perhaps she should apologize to Pounce and friends? Should we denounce this as inappropriate and not a fair representation of bronies? Or am I overreacting? Anyhoo, I don't want to be a complete Debbie Downer. If want to donate to help the poor guy, feel free to do so. Any amount is worth its wait in gold.
  11. Didn't know if i should put it here or in Life Advice, so i thought 'meh.' Have you ever made a Plasma Donation or are you planning to do so? For those who don't know, Plasma is the substance that is in your Blood. There are certain Plasma-Centers in this World where you can go and donate it. Plasma is being used as medicine for people who have AIDS or Hepatitis. People who donate Plasma also get Money, which is between 15-20 Bucks. I would really like to know that because i do this since a few weeks now. I actually came back from one just recently. So tell me about it Bronies.
  12. I am having a hard time understanding this donating thing, sorry! So let's say I donate 15$, that means I have 1 1/2 months of the donators benefits? Or is the benefits like the siggy size and stuff permanent?

  14. This is a question that I wish to open up for discussion. Should artists be allowed to put a price tag on the songs they upload? Or, provide an option for users to donate upon downloading a song if they chose to do so? Bandcamp does this. You can choose to put no minimum price on your downloads, so users can either download them for free or donate to the artist. I don't see many downsides to this. You could listen to any song on the website for free, but artists could choose to either ask for a donation or require payment upon attempting to actually download it. What do you guys think?
  15. Back in late July/early August, Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy admitted to the radio that he donated to charities and churcheswho are both against gay marriage and gay rights altogether. One of the most notorious charities was the Family Research Council, an anti-gay rights hate group who famously lobbied money to not condemn Uganda's bill to execute people just for being gay. This topic was heavily talked about here to the point where it was locked because it was becoming uncivil. Some of the protests include not allowing Chick-Fil-A restaurants to expand into campuses and cities where gay rights activities are in the forefront, one of them being Chicago. This piece of news occurred four days ago: Here's the link to the piece. And here's a much longer article courtesy of Yahoo. My reaction? This is actually supposedly a major step in the right direction. Contrary to what some people said, what Cathy said and did was very dangerous. If he were someone who was alone, unknown, and was speaking for himself, there may not be as much controversy. However, he demonstrated his anti-same sex marriage beliefs and "charity" donations as basically the entire core of the restaurant from the CEO/Owner to the employees. His words, therefore, were put into a much larger context. He and his company were justifiably criticized and blasted for not only their words, but for also donating money that customers paid to anti-gay right charities and hate groups. Therefore, the supposed harassment of CFA's employees — cooks, waiters, etc. — were one hundred percent Cathy's own fault because he put them in danger. Expressing an opinion doesn't mean guarantee freedom of financial and personal consequences. However, now that CFA supposedly won't donate any more money to anti-LGBT charities, will I eat at any of the restaurants? No. One is the fact that I want no association with someone who donated any money for the sake of "protecting traditional marriage," which is a major fallacy. There hasn't been one good reason why same sex marriage — NOT civil unions, as they're mostly recognized state-wide only; don't offer the same federal legal status protections, benefits, and recognitions as marriage in most states; and the words "civil union" psychologically translate into being part of "different, inferior" class status-wise to plenty of the LGBT and its activists — shouldn't be legalized and recognized throughout the U.S. Every argument against it has been poorly thought out or uses religion as a crutch. In the U.S., using religious as a reason to outlaw constitutional civil rights is against the law. The other reason is the fact that I have absolutely zero trust in Cathy and the higher-ups in Chick-Fil-A. Here's an article that describes this alleged new practice and an excerpt from the article: Basically, the funds they'll get is indirect. Not from WinShape, but to groups personally, who in turn donate to the anti-gay (marriage) groups like the Family Research Council. If they're going to donate and associate themselves that way, then that's still create a problem for simply one reason. Dan Cathy lied! According to meetings in Chicago, CFA claimed to quit donating to anti-gay marriage churches and charities. This practice, while legal, is conniving because he's donating via other means. Cathy's claim was a bold-face lie because the charities he associates with will still receive donations. It also doesn't help when Cathy denied giving these "concessions" so they can build a restaurant branch in Chicago, which is considered one of the more liberal cities in the U.S. The previous announcement earlier this week was a major step in the right direction. Unfortunately, Cathy gave the movement the other cold shoulder via attending the "charity" as well as making this statement. Not cool!
  16. With last week's move to a dedicated server, MLP Forums is running faster and smoother than ever before. Unfortunately, our operational costs are also higher than ever before, and relying only on members to make a donation whenever they feel like it is proving to be less and less sustainable. So, we've been looking into a variety of new ways to monetize the site more consistently, to ensure we can afford to stay on this beautiful new server for a long time to come. We'll be writing about our ideas here in Canterlot Castle, and it will be greatly appreciated to have your input on how effective you think each may be, and whether you would personally make use of them. After all, this forum is for all of you at the end of the day, and we think it's only fair that you get to have a say in how we cover its expenses. Proposal #1: Subscriptions At the moment, our current system of accepting donations works as a pseudo-subscription system of sorts, with every dollar you donate granting you three days of donor status. If we were to introduce subscriptions, they would completely replace the current donations system with a more traditional monthly fee you pay to keep the status. However, to accommodate different levels of generosity, I'm thinking of adding a little twist to it. All subscribers would get the same account upgrades as our current donors. However, those wanting to donate more towards the forums every month would have the option of simply paying more for their subscription. Essentially, we would have a number of subscription tiers, all of which offer the same benefits, but allow you to choose how generous you want to be. The tiers might be as follows (proof-of-concept only; this is by no means a final list): $10/month $15/month $20/month $25/month $30/month $50/month Anyone wanting to donate more than our highest available tier would also be welcome to contact me for a custom subscription. The main advantage of subscriptions over donations is that subscribers will receive a recurring bill every month, reminding them to renew their subscription. It is even possible to set up an auto-renewing subscription that automatically bills your credit card or PayPal account every month. This will likely lead to a much more consistent stream of income as we have members who are willing to spare a certain amount of money on a monthly basis, and this system will accommodate them well by essentially committing them to pay money every month. Often, someone might be willing to commit to a monthly donation, but then they forget to actually keep their commitment. What do you think of this proposal? Would you prefer it to the current donation system that asks everyone to donate towards a fixed goal? How might it affect members who want to make a one-time donation and aren't interested in keeping the donor status indefinitely?
  17. So I was thinking about things, and the lottery crossed my mind, so I wanted to know. What would you do if you won the lottery? Any lottery? As for me, I'd set one part for myself, one part for my family, one part for my education, and the rest I'd probably donate to charity and the forums. But I might change my mind if it happens. Imagine you hate cats. Just imagine it. You'd say "If I ever owned a cat I'd give it away." Well what if you just happen across a box with a small kitten inside, cold, hungry, and unhealthy. Would you just walk past, and leave it to it's fate? NO! You'd pick it up, take it home, and nurse it back to health, even thought you're a cat hater. So what would you do as of now if you won the lottery?
  18. After a bit of mucking around and head-banging, our new subscription based donation system is now fully armed and operational! Those of you that are interested in becoming regular contributors to the forum's monthly costs now have the option of selecting the 'recurring monthly donation' option from the newly expanded 'donate' link on the top navigation bar. From there, you'll have a variety of monthly subscription packages to pick from, ranging from $10 to $50. Subscriptions will be configured as a recurring PayPal payment, meaning that you will automatically be billed for it every month. If you don't want this to happen and would prefer to make every monthly payment anually, you can cancel the recurring payment in your PayPal account by going to the following page: Profile > My Money > My preapproved payments ...and canceling the payment from there. You will then receive an invoice 10 days before your subscription expires reminding with a link to pay it manually. For those of you that would prefer not to get tangled up into the newfangled subscription stuff, one-time donations of any size may still be made through the donation tracker on the front page. Please note, however, that due to conflicts between the two donation systems, users with active subscriptions are not able to make one-time donations, and vice-versa. If you are currently in the donors group but would like to purchase a subscription, please PM an administrator and we'll hook you up.
