  1. You know, among other related interests that MLP:FiM has generated among its fans and general viewers, I believe that MLP:FiM has definitely generated interest in Horses and Equestrian culture (I mean Real Equestrian culture); and I do wonder if there are any Bronies or anybody who is basically into MLP:FiM who actually rides real Horses and/or Ponies or at least thinks about giving it a try. Imagine riding in a Pony pulled cart, much like this: Who would love to see something like that as an activity at a future Brony convention? Could you see MLP:FiM influencing a renewed broader interest in riding Horses (whether Horseback or Horse drawn vehicles), perhaps with the help of the Brony movement? Feel free to share your thoughts.
  2. I gotta say these new MLP Potion toys are out of control with the designs, like they are pretty messed up with the ponies. But good news the human ponies aren't that bad actually, they didn't change a lot of the designs. What do you guys think of the new equestria girls? here is a review of some of the dolls
  3. I was thinking about creating a realistic portrayal of how language(s) would develop in Equestria. Of course you would have different language families, most likely divided by the different sentient species in their world; the equine languages, the griffin languages, the draconic languages, etc. Each would have their own unique history, dialects, grammar, phonetics, and more importantly lexicon, which would be highly influenced by their culture and way of life. Now let’s focus on the Ponies’ languages, or possibly a common Equestrian language that would have developed with the unification of the tribes. I was thinking they could develop an interesting noun classification system based on three groups; Earth/Terrequine, Sky/Pegasian, and Magic/Monocerous. This classification would not only apply to the types of ponies themselves, but reflect in how they view the world. Their names could take on the appropriate endings depending on if they were an earth pony, pegasus, or unicorn, and all nouns would get classified into one of those three groups; the ‘earth’ group for more earth-oriented things, the ‘sky’ group for sky-oriented things, and the ‘magic’ group for more abstract concepts. This could even apply to a single noun, where changing that noun’s ending or classification would change its meaning. Let’s make a word in example; perhaps la phona could mean “the tree” in earth form, then le phone could mean “the cloud” in sky form, and li phoni could mean “the pony (sentient individual; conscience)” in the magic form. (This is just for example; if I really make this language, there will be much more thought put into making it natural and have historical context with phonetic changes, irregularities, historic spelling rules, etc.) Now historically, among the three tribes, each one would’ve had their own distinct dialect of a “proto-equestrian” language, which would eventually shape the accents, dialects and colloquialisms of their modern counterparts. The unicorns’ language would’ve probably been more archaic and formed the basis for the standardisation of modern equestrian grammar; hence, people from Canterlot and aristocratic unicorns/ponies tend to speak very clearly with a distinct accent and word choice that could possibly sound ‘posh’ and ‘ritzy’ to other ponies. You could even have a similar thing to English where, after the invasion of Normandy, we took words from French, which took on a more pretentious and sophisticated feel as they were used by the aristocracy, yet we also retained the same words from Anglo-Saxon which have a lower register as they were used by the commoners or working class. So words from historic Unicorn language would sound more formal and sophisticated, while perhaps words originating from Earth Ponies would sound more simple. The earth ponies would also develop many accents and dialects of this modern Equestrian language based on their historic language(s), which could be perceived by other ponies to be very ‘country’ or ‘rustic’ (i.e. Applejack and the Apple family). Of course in modern Equestrian times these colloquialisms won’t always hold true solely based on a pony’s type; for example, Octavia is an Earth Pony who speaks kind of poshly or ‘properly’. You could also have unique accents arising in the city, for example Babs’ accent. Princess Luna, then, would speak a very archaic, unicornish form of the Equestrian language, possibly an Early Modern Equestrian language based in Canterlot (comparable to Early Modern English). If I continue through with this idea of documenting/creating a theoretical linguistic background for Equestria and constructing actual languages, I’ll probably post my progress here. Maybe one day we can have actual language courses and an entire community speaking an Equestrian language? That would be amazing. I’ll try to develop this more when I can, and hopefully I’ll have an actual speakable language underway soon. I will, however, probably have to start with an experimental Equestrian language first, before I start something serious, to kind of get an idea of how it would turn out and to get a basis for the whole thing. So what are your thoughts on all of this? Any extra ideas or Equestrian history you'd like to point out that may contribute to this?
  4. A Houyhnhnm is one of a race of intelligent Horses from an island south of Australia (not Tasmania to the east). These horses keep a race of barbaric Humans called "Yahoos", named after the Horses' word for "evil". They also practice eugenics (and possibly racism), they never fall ill, their personality is cold and "perfect", and they never lie. Also, they do not mourn or celebrate death; they dismiss it as a trip to the "First Mother". * By contrast, the "sunny" (and "stormy") Equestrians, or "sapient ponies", are in, many ways like us. They live in a different world, they don't have Humans (shut up, Lyra Heartstrings!), they just accept you whoever you are (unless you're a "monster" like Discord or Queen Chrysalis. Or Krastos.), and they do fall ill and die, in which they wail in sorrows. What if a Houyhnhnm (as enountered by Lemuel Gulliver) meets a Pony in Equestria (or vice versa)? Will they start some sort of flame war, between the Equestrian's changeable emotions, and the Houyhnhnm's cold perfectionism? Though it'll be something nice to watch: what will the Equines do to each other? Please come up with your results! Thanks! EDIT: * First Mother - a possible Houyhnhnm deity/goddess, alongside "Law and Reason". This might become a strong debate if this falls into Equestrian ears, which comes with the controversial possible interpretation: "THE FIRST MOTHER OF YOURS IS OUR QUEEN FAUST!"
  5. I learned harmonica in 1 day lol
  6. This was inspired by the Houyhnhnm' First Mother (death myth) and the possible Equestrian reaction. Still a poor drawing, though.
  7. "A Houyhnhnm debates with an Equestrian on the Identity of the 'First Mother'." Who, do you think, is this ancestral, legendary "First Mother", in an Equestrian's interpretation?
  8. This entire thread is dedicated to the discussion of how Earth horses (including actual ponies) and Equestrian ponies will interact with each other. The following fictional/mythological species of horse will also be included here: Houyhnhnms, Greek pegasi, classical unicorns (the bigger ones with no magic on their horns), and Diomedes' mares. Tell us, how will each of the five species of horse interact with the Equestrian ponies?
  9. An Equestrian pony visits Earth, and ends up in a horse farm. The horses freak out and run away from him. Except one or a few horses, who are curious over their more advanced visitor. Which of these scenarios is more likely? 1. Friendship - The Pony and the horses will try to establish contact with each other; when their masters are not watching! 2. Liberation - The Pony will help the horses escape to Equestria, far away from the dreaded oppression of the Humans. 3. Assimilation - The Pony will always attempt to turn the horses into Equestrian ponies, irregardless of status. If you are present in the third scenario, he/she will also attempt to assimilate you. Don't waste this chance of a lifetime! (Oh, and don't forget the "bronies": what will happen if the bronies ever got wind of all this?)
  10. ... and vice versa in the opposite setting? (when ponies meet a Shetland pony on Earth)? (Possible scenarios: curiosity, offers for the Shetty to follow the ponies into Equestria, or making the Shetty adapt to Equestrian life) And both of them understood what each other is saying ...
  11. In my previous posting ( I ask if anybody (or “any-pony”) has ever ridden a real horse or Pony before. I’m very happy to see that many people who are into MLP:FiM have ridden before; some really enjoy it and like it very much, although some found it uncomfortable. Now, how would you like to ride in some sort of Horse/Pony drawn vehicle (either for practical use or just leasure)? -How about a Pony pulled miniature cart like this (it seems very nifty and fun to get around in one of these): -Maybe you’d like to get your friends together and go for a nice ride in a covered wagon: -If you live in the countryside, perhaps you’d like to give your car a break and settle for a nice relaxing ride into town in a horse pulled buggy: Perhaps you might also be interested in this article from Mother Earth News which talks about Horses as an alternative and eco-friendly mode of transportation ( Of course we can all agree Horses aren’t suitable to be a mode to transportation for all corridors and routes (it can be very, very dangerous, and not to mention atrocious, to try and drive a horse and buggy on the Interstate at 65mph), it does sound like a practical and eco-friendly (at least in some areas of the country) to sometimes use Horses and Buggies in place of Automobiles for small outings into town (for example, to visit a nearby friend, or to go and pick up a few items at the store). Maybe you'd like to plan a Brony convenion that includes rides in such Pony/Horse drawn vehicles. I'm certian it would be lots of fun. Feel free to share your thoughts on this subject.
