  1. I think the answer is yes. Maybe it's just the types of fans I see, but a large portion of our fandom seems to take this show too seriously. No, I'm not gonna use the excuse "it's just a kids show!" because I believe kids television programming deserves the same quality as adults. However, I think our community is WAY too harsh on certain episodes, and it's getting worse and worse with every season. Remember when FiM was just that show we didn't expect to be great but it was? Well, now we expect it to be great, we expect it to be hit after hit after hit every episode. Or at least some of us do. You yourself may not judge this show too harshly, but I know a handful of fans who do, and I just think we need to take a step back before we rage about the latest episode disaster.
  2. Y'know what really grinds my gears? When bronies talk about the fandom as if it's a club that requires dues or regular participation to remain in. I'm so sick of hearing this "quit the fandom" stuff as if you're leaving an organization like the Boy Scouts of America or something. I've taken a mighty whack at this subject on these forums, but I can't seem to make a dent. Here's one more attempt. If you still like the show, then you can still call yourself a brony. If you want to, that is. No one has to do anything they don't want. But this is a fandom--it doesn't require monthly dues, and it doesn't require community participation. If you like the show, then you can call yourself a brony! That's it! Tired of the show? Don't want to watch for awhile? Fine! That doesn't mean you've "quit the fandom"! Not unless you decided that you actually dislike the show! I read these posts all the time that say things like, "I'm going off to college and won't be able to watch the show for awhile, so I'm quitting the fandom. So sorry. I don't want to leave, but I have to." IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'RE ACTIVE OR NOT. It's a freaking hiatus. I haven't watched Star Wars in years. I'm still a fan. I don't care if you ever watch the show again! If you still like it, then you can still call yourself a brony! You don't have to "quit" the fandom unless you don't like the show anymore! My head a splode.
  3. Steel Accord

The final season and the Herd.

Now, I've been a brony since very near the beginning of the fandom. I've been shooting down threads like these since season four. Guess the horseshoe is on the other hoof now though. I've been thinking, what is next for us after season nine ends? Obviously sites like these won't just shut down but what about the content creators? Will bronies on Youtube like Dr. Wolf still make theory videos? Will the fanfic writers (like what I try to be) still make stories? Will the artists still make pictures of the Mane Six, and the musicians still make songs about Equestria? Will the conventions still be held especially now that Bronycon is shutting down? On the one hoof, I can look to those like Prince Whatever who not too recently wrote a beautiful anthem that the fandom isn't going anywhere and the staff at EQD even wrote a nice article about the core fandom remaining strong. On the other, IlikeKimPossibleAlot called the feeling of the show ending bittersweet and seemed bummed about it and I don't blame her and even DWK kind of jokingly looked forward to the show's ending like escaping a "candy coated nightmare". Which I don't think is a serious insult or slight because that's just his bit. I suppose I'm being kind of ridiculous, after all, many fandoms have outlived their shows ending. Hell the Browncoats made outliving their show a part of their culture. I suppose I'm half-venting and half asking, what are your feelings on the show coming to an end and how that will affect you as a brony?
  4. - I don't have a OC. Also feels pretty hard when you go artist skills at all. And would prob require some time effort nonetheless. - As written above, I simply can't create art. - I just recently joined Derpibooru and didn't visit it as often. I do fetch images on my discordserver with TwilightBot though. - I just joined the fandom ~10 months ago despite watching MLP since roughly Season 2 release. - I was never at any ponycon. - At least I met some bronies recently IRL. I hope we didn't loose contact again though. - I almost never visit ED except like 2 times a year. - I barely watched youtube videos (fanworks), but I started some months ago with this as well, subscribed some channels and now I got like 70 unseen videos there. - I don't have any merchandise.
  5. After seeing a discussion on a MLP collector forum, I am curious. Do you like MLP but not consider yourself a brony? Why not? Personally, I consider myself a casual brony because I watch the show and some youtube videos, and have some G4 merch. But, first and foremost I'm a vintage toy collector with a preference for vintage MLP toys. Many in the (vintage) collector community don't consider themselves a brony at all.
  6. What did you think of bronies when you first heard of them?
  7. UPDATE: The survey will be closing by the end of the month! Try to spread it around, the more people the better! Hey everypony! Thanks for clicking this topic, and I'm sure you're curious as to what could be in store after… Whelp! GUESS WHAT?! There's a survey going on right now on the web for "How has fandoms affected your life?" The survey is pretty short and to the point, and it's to help tally up the results of how positively fandoms affect our daily lives. If you're a brony like me, go ahead and put in your two bits. Don't be afraid to mention you're in other fandoms too, I mean I'm a true trekkie when it comes down to it. Here's a link to the survey~~ https://docs.google.com/…/1OXpMtwct7OnQRrVslxudlOY…/viewform The people running it are a non-profit organization called,"Manifold Creators Society". The organization was made to support fans from fandoms, and help to educate what fandoms are truly about. This survey, if we have enough people submitting to it, will prove that fandoms are overall very positive to be in. Please tell me what you think of it after you've clicked submit as I am one of the members that helped to create the survey. It's my first survey, too. Thanks again for reading, and I hope you're willing to help support the survey. Share it out to all your fandoms ;3
  8. We all know the story of the modern my little pony fanbase. An unexpected and once monumental fanbase that dominated the internet during 2012 and 2013 respectively. The fanbase known for a huge amount of 13-30 year old males has seemingly disappeared from the mainstream and is now but a memory of a very strange time. I was one of those people who used to love it. At the age of 13 in 2012 I watched an episode and the rest is history. Up until 2015 I loved MLP. But during season 5 I lost interest and started to look elsewhere. For the longest time I could never figure this out. In my search for answers the first one I came to was that the fanbase had ruined it for me. Then over time I came to the conclusion that it was never good to begin with and that I and everyone else involved were getting in on a trend and deluded ourselves to believe it was good. My actual problem couldn't be further from the truth. MY PROBLEM My actual problem was that the show I liked had simply ended. A youtuber talked about this in depth and explained that seasons 1-4 was pretty much it's own separate show from seasons 5 and onward. Seasons 1 through 4 were dedicated to the development of the main characters established in season 1. By season 4 this process (with the exception of the CMC) was over. Season 5 and onward has been about these new characters that I simply do not care about. Truth of the matter is that MLP seasons 1-4 was actually a pretty good television programme that was loved for good reason. MY EXPERIENCE The reason I adopted the "it was a fad" idea was simply down to the shame I felt due to watching it. Internally my defence for it lasted all throughout my interest in it. I started to feel shame once I had been away from it for some time. And let me tell you, the judgement from other people was awful. I could take a little bit of teasing about it (hell I'd even joke about it myself a little). But that doesn't excuse how other people acted over it. I lost two friends to this hobby. Two people actively rejected me due to liking MLP. To add to that my family weren't exactly nice about it either. I recently came to the realisation that my mother had actually attempted to stop me watching it on one occasion. Since I let go of this interest we haven't talked about it since. Hell there have been occasions where I've mentioned my little pony and they quickly like to change the subject (most likely due to shame of having a son/brother who was into that). I won't claim we needed a rights movement or anything but some very socially conservative people genuinely would hate you for watching it. I wanted to buy merch but now you can see why I never had the guts to do it. On a lighter note having re-watched the earlier episodes I feel completely ok about what I did. I liked my little pony: friendship is magic... and that was ok. THE FUTURE It has come to my attention that a generation 5 of MLP is in development. Without spoiling anything I will say I am digging the ideas brought up and do believe it could make MLP a trend again. Maybe not to quite the extent as in 2012/13 but it could get close. In the run up to it's launch and when more official info comes out I may well become active around here again. If you still remember me I hope you all know that I do not hold anything against you people and your hobby and want to thank you for letting me be involved. And I hope that in the near future I may be involved again.
  9. did you ever in you life imagine that you will like a show for girl like mlp and end up in the bronie fandom? For me I never not even in my childhood I ever dream I a end up whatching mlp and becoming a fan. sometime when I watch the show I feel strange like weird I even fight within my self part of me like the show part of me think that I am male think I should not watch this show that is for girl. is like fighting the rule of society that man should behave like that.

    Regarding powerful Oc villains?

Have you noticed that in a lot of fandoms, fan-made villains being powerful enough to match canon characters is frowned upon? I don't get it. Why can't fan-made villains be powerful enough to fight a powerful canon character?

    The irony of the fandom

Don't you find it ironic that a show as optimistic as Friendship is Magic has a fandom full of pessimistic people?
  12. First it was Brony-Con, now it's the Crystal Mountain Pony Con! Thanks to EQD for the info (link). The last Crystal Mountain Pony Con will be held this year, then it's over. What does this mean? Is the fandom really dying? In my opinion, when I heard Brony-Con was shutting down, I wasn't too concerned. It was no big deal to me. However, another large Con is shutting down, and it got my attention. Two cons shutting down before next year is a notable coincidence.

    What we have in common?

Leaving all the "I don't like this, I hate this, I don't like those fans, it's just disgusting and wrong." stuff behind us let's have a friendly discussion here. Let's see what we all bronies and pegasisters have in common. These are rules for discussion 1- No bashing 2- No harsh criticizing 3- Respect everypony here I'm gonna tell about myself first. I like the show so much, I can really relates to some of it's characters. I also like the fandom despite all the "conflicts". I might not approve a few things in the fandom but I respect what other people like as long as they can do same for me. Let us know each other in a better way.
  15. Do ever feel like you've been here too long? On the forum, in the fandom? If so why?
  16. It's always been a source of personal interest when joining new forums, seeing veteran members with many posts and others who've been around for a more moderate time with a more moderate amount of posts. Do you bronies participate greatly in other fandoms such as this one, meaning you attend cons, post enthusiastically about specific characters and never tire of it, are they a part of your identity if you were to ask what is? We all have others things we're fans of but what else do you go hard for. As in, intensely, not.. Ahum. And are ponies your number one or? Tell tell. For me, am pretty casual as far as bronies go. Never get high post counts in forums (Though my first was most like a home. This place like that for anyone?) but have been very active in other fandoms as far as their place in my heart goes as well as time spent on them and time interacting with other fans. Bronies seem so very nice, though.

Movies/TV The Future of Star Wars?

I don't know if there's already a Star Wars thread I can merge this with but I just don't know about all these post-Disney Star Wars spinoffs. I'm probably going to see the Solo movie but the franchise is starting to wear thin for me. I didn't like the Last Jedi, Rogue One was just okay, etc. I feel like they're running it into the ground at this point. They retconned the Expanded Universe and the new sequels feel like more of a rehash than anything else. I'll always be a fan of the original trilogy but it just feels so gimmicky at this point. Thoughts?
  18. Assuming virtual reality becomes possible at some point, how would you feel about a VR version of Equestria? Assume there are AI versions of the characters, but at the same intelligence levels as in the show (so no Friendship is Optimal-style superintelligences). Also, what would you want to be capable of doing in this VR? I'd probably immerse myself in there for at least a few hours a day and spend most of my time in Canterlot and Ponyville, as a unicorn.

  20. Hello everyone, I am Fabian (better known as Flutter-Fighter), I am 20 Years old and need your help. For my school education I have to write an academic assignment. I chose the research question: "Why/How did the Brony/Pegasister-fandom form?" or the short form: Phenomenon Brony To answer this I have to ask you a few questions about you and your life as Brony/Pegasister. You don´t have to answer all questions, but I will be thankful for every answer. You need to know: - Nobody except me can see your answers. - It is anonymous. - I could look at a single survey, but I don´t think that will happen, because I just need the overall result for the evaluation and not a single survey. - You don´t have to answer all questions. - By submitting this survey, you agree that I may quote individual answers from it. - You don´t have to finish it at once. You can send it to me and edit it later. - The option "Sonstiges:" means "other option". I am from Germany, so the language is German and i don´t know if it will be translated for others. - If you have questions, just ask me right here. Thanks in advance. If you want, share it with your friends and other Bronies. Brohoof /) Link to the survey: https://goo.gl/forms/GaJDbeySfc7yL6ky1 If you have found a mistake or a question I could add just tell me.
  21. I have avoided the ToonKriticY2K thread for the past several days. I noticed that it very much turned into a Debate Pit-esque thread in which a few members of our forum community (who will not be named) have lashed out. And it is completely understandable that they are having difficulty dealing with the disgusting actions of a prominent member of the fandom as a whole. I wanted to let all of this process for a bit before saying something apart from merely condemning ToonKritic's actions, which I have already done on a few occasions. About a week ago, I first learned about Toon's actions via a video that gave a basic rundown of the situation. I have been a brony for over 3 and a half years now. I often took to the internet for my fix of pony-related content long before I even made a Poniverse account. During that time, I grew to enjoy the brony analysis community on YouTube: their personalities, their unique insights, and above all, their passion for what they love. While I wasn't really a fan of ToonKritic's content from his own channel, I certainly recognized him from the wide array of collaborations that he did with other people in the analysis community. I even came across some of his writing on Fimfiction and enjoyed what he brought to the table. It pained me to find out what Toon has been doing behind the scenes. And at first, I didn't even know the full extent of what had been happening. I looked into the situation even more and eventually I learned that ToonKritic had been engaging in similar illicit acts with minors for more than a decade. I already knew that what he had done was heinous and has no place in not only this fandom, but a civil society. But as I dug deeper, things began to look even worse. I am incredibly ashamed of members of this fandom who have allowed such perverse activities, no matter how serious they actually were, to continue for a long time. I am ashamed of members of the fandom, specifically the analysis community, who learned about the full extent of ToonKritic's sexual abuse of minors, and kept their mouths shut about it until a Skype call and various screenshots of Toon's interactions with his victims were leaked. Pedophilia, and indeed ALL forms of sexual abuse or harassment, are not something to be taken lightly. There are victims whose livelihoods were shattered by the actions of a manipulative child sexual predator. They will forever have to live with the memories of this man taking advantage of them. Justice needs to be served, but that alone is not enough. What about other people who have suffered at the hands of members of this fandom? It is an odd coincidence that a thread about pedophilia and underage dating in the MLP Forums community showed up in the Feedback section over a week before ToonKritic's behavior was made public. And this reminded me that incidents of a similar nature have happened close to home. This community is made up of people from their teens all the way to their 40s. In a setting where adults are grouped with and allowed to interact with minors, then there is a risk of abuse. I'm not saying that the majority of adult users of this forum would do such a thing. I'm not stereotyping adult users of the site, because I myself am a 20 year old. But it appears to me that in some way, shape, or form, there have been underage members of this very community who were victimized by older users (who were then given appropriate consequences). And that hurts. Yes, the fandom has proven time and time again to be a force for good and positivity in the world. It has broken down barriers. It has changed lives for the better, like my own. It has been a light in the lives of many people in this dark world. But every group is going to have its bad apples. If we won't bring to light and discuss the truth that sexual abuse can and does exist within this fandom, then how are we going to fix the problem? While the fandom has been a wonderful thing for many people, staying silent about a problem we are aware of for the sake of preventing controversy is a disaster waiting to happen. What do you care about more? The public's view of a fandom that is honestly already stigmatized to begin with, or the innocent young people who have fallen victim to abusers who just so happened to be bronies? So in light of the ToonKritic mess, I have this to say to the members of this forum, and indeed all members of this fandom who may happen to lurk on the site without being active contributers. If you are being victimized by a member of this forum, this fandom, or anybody else, then there are people you can reach out to for support. We have administrators and other staff here who have dealt with abusive situations within the community before. There are authorities who can help you get out of an unsafe situation. And I honestly believe that there are good people within this very community who you can talk to and who will be there to support you. You are not alone. As for myself? I have noticed quite a bit of talk--not just here, but indeed across all places on the internet where bronies congregate--about leaving the fandom behind in light of the controversy. I will not be leaving the fandom as a result of the actions of people like ToonKritic. I believe that it is your choice, and your choice alone, to stay or to leave. If you no longer feel comfortable in the fandom, then I respect that. But I am incredibly ashamed of the members of the community who have committed such acts of abuse, and who let such things slide without making it clear that there is a problem. I sincerely hope that together, we can tackle this problem head-on, and foster not just a forum community, but a fandom with no tolerance for sexual abuse, harassment, or misconduct in any form, as well as a positive culture that seeks to empower the individual fans in the community and make a positive difference in their lives. -------------------------------------- So, with that, I thank you for reading this. I didn't plan on it being this long, but I needed to vent and express my thoughts on the matter.
  22. Hi everyone, hope everyone has been having a great year. I haven't been in the fandom for almost 4 years and just recently the show came back into my mind when I noticed a my little pony the movie toy at Walmart. I remember before I left that the Fight is Magic game was still being worked on and Alex S. was still making pony music. I'm not looking to get back into ponies, was just wondering if anything major had happened in the fandom. I left probably just after season 4. This fandom was a major part of my life back then, just wondering how things have been.
  23. I've asked this in another forum, but I'd like to ask here for some more input. I've heard many times that Hasbro originally intended to stop at Season 3, because of the 65 episode syndication. Supposedly, a 65 episode series would give one episode per weekday for the whole summer, so that children would finish the whole series before going back to school. My question is: Is it true that the Brony fandom played a big part in convincing Hasbro to continue the series, after Season 3? I've heard it many times, but don't know if it's true, as I haven't even joined the fandom, until 2015. I would think that it was rather toys and merchandise that played a primary role, but that's just speculation on my part with no hard facts. What do you all think? Thanks.

    MLP Discord Servers

I want to know what everyone's discord servers are so we can check them out and maybe affiliate with one another! I prefer servers revolving around roleplay. Either way it has to be MLP based <3 Here's the link to mine. Let me know what your server is about along with a link and I'll look at them all! NeighTown is a simple town that had once experienced a terrible blizzard. Now, Lumi, the princess that rules NeighTown, keeps everyone's home safe. You can read the town's backstory in the server. Once you've created a character and an admin accepts you, you will become a civilian and see all of the roleplay channels. They are hidden to keep guests from spamming or trolling and keep the group clean. Participate in events and assignments and build relationships!
  25. If mlp/fandom was completely dead for like 5 years after it stops production I would probably comeback to the fandom and try to get the fandom heartbeat again if that's even possible this is gonna be a sad event when it happens.
