  1. Should Sunset have been Twilight's student instead of Starlight? It's a simple debate, should she have been and why? Let me argue for Sunset, see Sunset isn't actually that bad for a character, she made a mistake and it took her actual time to get others to trust her again not just the human mane 6 but twilight and the rest of Canterlot High as well, which can be relatable to many people and can actually teach a lesson to the target demographic like the shows "supposed to". for that reason, I would've like for sunset either pony form or her unseen human form to return or enter back into the portal and become pony twilight's student, shes smart, shes talented, and she has a lot to learn and twilight could easily have taught her and it would've been a lot more genuine than starlight, and maybe even have sunset do something grand and end up eventually making her own friends as the new mane six or even following in twilight's hooves and becoming an alicorn herself. Also having Sunset there for Starlight's capture of the mane 6 during the start of season 5 would have been extremely helpful because she could have easily figured out what was happening, she could have tricked Starlight into thinking she's betraying her teacher, and gotten starlight's true intentions and cutie mark discovered by the rest of the town, and it would've been way more believable then Fluttershy because Sunset herself was a villain at one point, and she's extremely crafty. Not to mention Sunset would end up driving Starlight away, Starlight would have to somehow manipulate the mane six into separating like in the season 5 finale, but without Starswirl's spell, and with them separated Sunset nor Twilight would completely notice because of how Sunset's teachings are really taking primary to Twilights and Sunset's attention, which would lead to a half season to a full season with Sunset learning friendship and making her own friends. This so when the next major threat does happen, (because we all know one will eventually), Sunset's group would have to step up and actually save the day, eventually leading to HER BECOMING STARLIGHT'S TEACHER and teaching her about friendship so that Starlight can redeem herself and become friends with Trixie like she is now. I also think Sunset would teach differently than Twilight, with her personality and all it would be a lot more challenging to both Starlight and Sunset. I also believe Sunset's teaching style would be very enjoyable to watch and to see her make mistakes while teaching Starlight about magic and friendship, which honestly could easily extend the series on to about 16 seasons before it got stale, adding new characters and groups to focus on, and etc.
  2. In the IDW comics, Pinkie Pie has unveiled that she carries live ammunition for her party cannon. She has attempted to do that even NOT AS A VILLAIN, against Iron Will. Thankfully Rarity stopped her, otherwise he'd be dead! I decided to do a few hours of speculation as to consider how powerful her cannon 290mm deliverer of fun actually is! Conclusion: she could destroy any modern tank, as her cannon is about the strength of one found on a WW2 era battleship
  3. Right, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted to this particular blog so let’s do one that has been simmering in the back of my mind for quite some time. As before, let’s start with what we know: In the MLP: FiM cartoon, Starswirl the Bearded is mentioned several times. In Luna Eclipsed, Twilight dresses up as Starswirl in a stereotypical wizards hat and cloak, complete with stars and moons (instead of the more common astronomical glyphs), but with the addition of bells all over the hat. Interesting, and annoying choice for anyone who decides to cosplay. Nobody in Ponyville recognized the costume, except for the visiting Luna who compliments Twilight on the costume’s accuracy. Twilight mentions Starswirl having created hundreds of spells, including an entire category of magic called ‘amniomorphic’, and having a shelf of books dedicated to him in the Canterlot Library. Just as a note, there's some dissent on what exactly Twilight said in this episode. Some saying it was Amniomorphic, and some saying Anniomorphic. There is a big difference. Those that support Amniomorphic say that Amnio means bowl, and morphic means shapechanging, and combined with Bearded makes Starswirl a 'Hairy Potter'. Which is cute, and might actually be what the writers were aiming or, but unfortunately Amnio doesn't actually mean bowl as far as I've been able to tell. It's Greek for 'cowl' as in a hood, and shows up in modern times referring to things that interact with the Amniotic sac that a fetus develops in. So by this term we're saying Starswirl was responsible for a series of magic spells that help with pregnancy. Which actually might be valid now that I've taken the time to think it over. The alternative, Anniomorphic, is a lot more obscure and deals with a fifteenth-century Dominican friar and 'historian', Annio da Viterbo, who was famous for making shit up. Which, as we'll see later also makes sense. In Hearth’s Warning Eve, Twilight exposits how the main character of the panto they’re putting on was mentored by Starswirl. The panto being set in what appears to be a time before Discord, Celestia, and Luna. In It’s About Time, Twilight, Spike, and Pinkie go to a supposedly secure wing of the Canterlot Library (which might be specifically the Castle library, or the library for the Exceptional Unicorn school Twilight was attending before the first episode, or all of the above, it’s not clear), that is named after Starswirl and contains archives of his work, supposedly dangerous stuff in the wrong hands, at least one time travel spell and a giant sand clock. This is a little more than a single shelf, so we can assume that the shelf Twilight referred to previously was in the public library, not the secure wing. Then in Magical Mystery Cure, Twilight gets mailed a book written by Starswirl, sent by Celestia, containing an incomplete spell that is capable of manipulating the Elements of Harmony even in its partial state. This book had also appeared at the end of The Crystal Empire, but it was just foreshadowing there and had no explanation. Celestia mentions that Starswirl didn’t understand the magic of Friendship, so couldn’t complete the spell. In Three’s a Crowd, there is a travelling Starswirl museum, where several other ponies are wearing variations on the Starswirl costume, including several ponies that were present in Luna Eclipsed, so we can assume that in the years (?) since Luna Eclipsed there’s been a renaissance in the Starswirl the Bearded Fandom. In Twilight’s Kingdom, Starswirl appears in a storybook, described as being ‘young’ by Celestia and interacting with Tirek and Scorpan at about the same time as Celestia was. That's more than we usually get for theorizing and worldbuilding, but really it's still not much. For more info, we have to look at secondary sources: In Rainbow Rocks it’s shown that Starswirl banished the Sirens to the Equestria Girls alternate dimension. In the comics, Starswirl has appeared on the covers (not helpful), and in tiny cameos with no relevant info, but in the storyline Reflections in the main comic, Starswirl is shown quite a lot in flashbacks. He’s depicted as the classic bumbling professor type, and is responsible for discovering the means to travel to alternate dimensions using Crystal Mirrors created from the Crystal Caves below Canterlot, and bringing back a variety of objects (magical and otherwise) to the main dimension. There’s another comic in the Fiendship line where the banishment of the Sirens is shown again, and yet one more making Starswirl responsible in a very vague way for the Changelings as well. In the Journal of the Two Sisters, Starswirl is said to be the leader of the group of unicorn mages responsible for the sun and moon movement before Celestia and Luna took over. Plus more details about his time travel experiments, mentioning that his age shifts around a lot, nominally because his spells and possibly energy expenditure are causing him to grow younger or older somewhat randomly. In interviews with the FiM staff, there have been several mentions that Starswirl was meant to be the Equestrian Merlin analogue, with all the complexities and incongruities that brings along with it. Such as multiple conflicting origins and inconsistent mythologies. However, according the M.A. Larson at some Q&A’s at conventions, several of the original scripts for the episodes listed above didn’t mention Starswirl. He was added in to them by request by Hasbro. Which is odd as there is a Gen 4 toy released by Hasbro for Starswirl… but as an Earth Pony mare. This matches all the prior generations of the toy line, each one having a Starswirl as a regular Pony mare, not a unicorn. The toy also changes appearance and cutie mark for each generation. In G4, the mare is blue with a purple/pink mane. G3, the mare is white with a dark pink mane (no G3.5 version). G2, the mare is white with a white mane. And G1, the mare is striped pink and blue with a purple and blue mane. This is pretty standard for multi-generation toys, with the appearances rarely being stable. But each is described within their generation as being highly magical in some way. So what can we pull from this? Apparently Starswirl was a big deal historically, but a big deal that was obscure until recently. He was involved in a lot of the major turning points of Equestrian history, but in the background and not as a major player. However, now he’s being used as the go-to explanation for everything magical even if he wasn’t necessarily responsible. The not-so-wise mentor figure, non-evil mad inventor, the bumbling professor, etc. Like Gandalf, Merlin, and so on, he’s more a caricature than a character. He’s being marketed to the ponies of Equestria in some kind of advertising campaign. This is not the first time we’ve seen someone put forward a disinformation campaign for a historical figure. The whole ‘Nightmare Night’ thing looks suspiciously like an attempt to desensitize the population for Nightmare Moon’s eventual return. It’s possible this Starswirl mania is something similar. To continue the conspiracy theory stuff, the fact is that Hasbro has done something weird here with the toys. This is the only pony from prior generations that changed gender from mare to stallion, and even then the change only happened in the cartoon and comics. Hasbro has put at least some effort into making their Gen 4 toys vaguely resemble the characters in the show. Except Starswirl, which they have left as a mare. Plus there’s the interesting thing about his name. Starswirl the Bearded. It’s rarely just said ‘Starswirl’, almost always the full name. This is common in some cultures that don’t normally use modern Western-style family names, to use identifiers like that. This could indicate that there were multiple historical Starswirls and the one we are interested in is defined by his beard. Or his beard was in itself more extravagant and luxurious than other ponies were capable, or desiring, to have making it part of his indentification. Or… Here’s something that you may not know. The term ‘Beard’ in LGBT circles has an interesting meaning and history. Originally many gay men who were in the closet would grow beards to demonstrate overt masculinity, as a disguise of sorts. This term, being ‘bearded’, expanded over time to refer to any visible demonstration of masculinity in a someone who was not necessarily classically masculine. A wife of a gay man would be called ‘his beard’, women wanting to appear male would put on false mustaches, beards, or even just five-o-clock shadows to enhance their apparent maleness. So on and so forth. Combine this with the toy line, and you get that despite first appearances they may in fact be the same character. This might be MLP’s first Trans character, with the ‘Bearded’ indicating that Starswirl is in fact a Mare who identifies as a Stallion. Putting aside the conspiracy theories, there is also the disconnect in his apparent age; being present as an experienced and wise figure before Celestia and Luna took over the moon and sun, yet being described as young when dealing with Tirek while Celestia and Luna were in power. All easily explained by the time travel spells and his magical experiments as mentioned in the Journal. This also matches some of the mythology of Merlin where in many stories he is said to have ‘lived backwards’, getting younger over time. It’s very possible that what Celestia and Luna wrote in their journal was the work of an unreliable narrator, and what they put down was what they perceived rather than what actually happened. Meaning that the time travel spells were more responsible than they believed, with Starswirl actually being ‘out of order’ relative to the royal pair, travelling back and forth through time. Another parallel with Merlin is the crystal caves of Canterlot. Well, Canterlot/Camelot being obvious, but the crystal caves specifically. In many versions of the Merlin mythos, the stories end with Merlin being trapped in a tree, or in Stonehenge, or in a Crystal Cave by Nimue, a character that might be his love interest, his student, or his nemesis depending on the exact story. In any case, he’s stuck there, effectively immortal but never to return to the ‘real’ world. Some of those stories do put in an escape clause though, that Merlin is free to go to other worlds. With this concept, Starswirl might not be Equestria’s analogue of Merlin. He might actually *be* Merlin. And the Crystal Mirrors his attempts to find a way back to the world of King Arthur and company. Which brings up the final, and what I find the most amusing theory. There is another fictional character who is said to literally be Merlin in his franchise. Who travels in time, who ages inconsistently and who can radically change appearance and theoretically genders. And who has an MLP analog which has appeared multiple times in the show with call outs and fanservice referring to both his classic and modern shows as well as references to apocryphal stories such as the 1965 feature films. I speak of course, of Doctor Who. In the episodes collectively called ‘Battlefield’, broadcast in 1989, the Doctor discovers that some time in his personal future he will be known as Merlin, advising the now long-dead King Arthur and his Knights who turn out to have been be dimension jumping crusaders fighting a war against Morgaine and Mordred. In this episode it is implied that all the stories of Merlin, including the one about being trapped in a Crystal Cave, were real and have happened/will happen (time travel is tricky that way). As a minor, but interesting coincidence is that in pride of place within the Starswirl the Bearded Secure Wing of the Canterlot Library, is a giant sand clock. A massive hourglass. Just like Doctor Whoove's Cutie Mark. And every picture or representation of Starswirl has his flanks covered. It's assumed that the symbol on his spellbook is his actual cutie mark, but maybe... So, Starswirl the Bearded might not just be the Merlin of Arthurian legend. But he might be some future or past incarnation of Doctor Whooves…
  4. Something I have always wondered about is how the education system works in equestria. It was hinted that Maud is a college student (getting a "rocktorate" in rock science), but as far as I can tell we have never seen a college/university in Equestria. ITS HEADCANNON TIME What do you think Maud's college/university is like? What is it's name? Where is it located? What kind of degrees does it have? How many students/professors? Does it have any sports? Why would Maud want to study there? (any other fun details you would like to come up with!)
  5. Do you have some headcannons of your fave ponies perhaps? I definitely do! Here's a list of my headcannons: Black trans girl Twilight Sparkle, has vitiligo. I imagine her to look something like this, except with white patches of skin: Latina Pinkie Pie, pansexual. (Even her color scheme are the same colors of the pansexual flag!) Haafu Rarity, and half black. (Haafu means being biracial, half Japanese and half black in Rarity's case,) Lesbian/homosexual polygamous Rainbow Dash who seem really punk on the outside but in reality she listens to Josh Groban while fantasizing of being with a few of the mane 6. ( Imagine RD with AJ, Twilight, and Fluttershy?..) Fluttershy.. who actually doesn't experience romantic attraction-- surprise! But she is cupioromantic (and possibly sexual), so she desires to be in a romantic relationship nonetheless :3c Polysexual AJ who's also polygamous. She's half black (but looks really pale; white passing) but her brother, Big Macintosh, is black and actually has dark skin. (Idk why, for me black Big Macintosh has always been fitting for me??) Anyways, post some of your guys' fave humanized pony headcannons! I'll be sure to read 'em all!
  6. Here's a new headcannon I have recently thought up. You all know how Maud makes a brilliant contrast to Pinkie Pie. Well Pinkie is a master in cartoony humor which consists of breaking the 4th wall, and outright breaking logic in general, Maud is more of a master in deadpan humor and overall dry humor. This lead me to an interesting theory: Each member of the Pie family specializes in different types of humor. Now, we all know that Pinkie's family isn't well in humor, from what we've seen. :okiedokielokie: They are dull and work on a rock farm. However, that is only that branch of her family. We have next to no knowledge on her other family members. We know about her Granny Pie or her Nana Pinkie, who from the way Pinkie talks about her, seems to give her advice. That's all we really know about her, we don't know what her personality is like. She could be like Granny Smith where she's old, but knows how to have a good time. She could also have a style of humor involving giving advice in a humorous way, or educating in a humorous way sort of like those educational songs from Animaniacs. If this is the case, I would love to see them go out and get a hayburger. The Pie family is a rather interesting anomaly. We only know about a few of them, and the evidence given could lead to some very interesting episodes. I hope the upcoming Pie Family reunion is as good as this. Oh, and I will cheer if this headcannon is true.
  7. Possible spoilers, so tread lightly! Ok, so S5 is coming out this year....what do you guys think that they'll start it off with? We know that they find a small village where girls & guys have all the same basic hairstyle, plus they all have the '=' Cutie Mark and very creepy smiles to go along with it. We also know that in one of the trailers, at least Rainbow gets her Mark changed to the same thing. Plus, there's some other stuff in the trailers that eludes to the Mane 6 being captured before Twi blasts some Magic at them. My theory is that the village is a representation of where everyone's exactly the same, like in many horror movies or novels. But it's not where they'll eat you alive or they're murderers, they just want everyone to be like them and live in the same li'l paradise of boring same-ness. Of course, this leads them to becoming very controlling and one-sided as they'll do anything to remain in their paradise. So, the Mane 6 (except Twi) must have their Marks changed at some point and Twi has to learn that even though we are the same we should accept our differences for what they are. This allows the other 5 to return to normal, and then they try to fix the village....but who knows, maybe they will change or not. Again, this reminds me of movies like the 'Stepford Wives' or even the MLP fan game 'Story of the Blanks'. I do like it that they're doing this though, and I wonder what will unfold in S5. Here's a brohoof to S5 everypony!
  8. If that is her favorite word, does she even love the fruit itself? They look like oranges. BTW, how do you think she fell in love with kumquats? Or is it just herself being random?
  9. All right this theory might seem a little weird and not make since but this is just something I noticed. I think Pinkie Pie might be afraid of bats. Okay here's my reasoning for that thought. In Ticket Master, when the tickets fell on Pinkie's face she said, "BATS, BATS IN MY FACE!" It could be a one off joke though Later in the episode Bats Pinkie is super afraid of Flutterbat, willing to burrow out of the way from it. So could this mean that Pinkie has some sort of phobia to bats? So discuss away.
  10. I can't quite remember where I read this but I remember someone mentioning the CMC getting their cutiemarks in a talent show sometime this season. Now, remember the DISASTER that happened in "Show stoppers"? Each of the CMC played the WRONG part in their performance when it was obvious to the audience who should have been doing what. What if the 'talent show' that I've been hearing about is a revamp of what happened in "Show Stoppers"? Except this time, each filly does what their BEST at. Imagine a complete redo of the 'Cutiemark Crusaders Theme Song', but WAY better and completely on key, sung by Sweetie Belle. With Applebloom and Scootaloo for backup of course. What do you think? Does this theory hold any water? This, but BETTER. :okiedokielokie:
  11. Okay, so Doctor Who fans one and all should know that the Doctor has had twelve different incarnations by way of "Regeneration" I'm pretty sure someone's thought of this before, but it occurred to me a few days ago. Could the fact that Bruce Wayne/Batman and James Bond being played by a multitude of different actors indicate them being Timelords? Seriously, I mean check this out: Lazenby is the worst one out of the bunch just so you know.
  12. Well, I've come to notice my different views on Alicorns as the seasons progress. Not only by their anatomy, but what is expected of them, and how most of them (exception of Twilight) came to be. Well, here's what I believe about Alicorns. Let's start with the cannon ones... (I do not own any of this art, nor do I ever claim it. By: Celebi-Yoshi @ deviantART) Let's start with their manes: Well, I cannonize Luna's mane as a starry substance, but most importantly, still a lot like hair. As you can see, Nightmare Moon has a much different mane, and we'll leave the starry mist in that form. So... magical, soft hair that has little magical star-like twinkles that glow. Celestia's on the other hand, like this picture, I cannonize as a silky, super soft hair that sort acts a very opaque colorful cloud. Sort of in the way of a substance spreading in water like smoke. I do not see it glowing in any way besides her sparkles as well. Again, hair... Cadance obviously has nothing strange about hers, and just looks like normal hair. ______________________________ Lifespans: I believe Luna and Celestia obtained their ultimate magical features and assets over a course of their early adventures. Typically, when they were 'mortal'. I do not see them as gods, neither does Faust. (Yes, I still support Faust's intentions) They did not (cannon) create the sun and moon, because in Hearth's Warming Eve, Unicorns before them raised the sun and moon to help the Earth ponies and Pegasai. What I mean is that basically, they are chosen ones with these etheral abilities to maintain their country for a long time. So, with that, I think Cadance is just a very minor ruler compared to them, and never was chosen in a way they were. I believe she was born into royalty, and had Alicorn blood in her. That's why Twilight was the first Alicorn to not be born as one. She may be bigger, but has a mortal pony life-span. I believe Twilight will to. Where would the series go without that fact? Oh, and Luna and Celestia were the first Alicorns made by a probable 'mutant' mixture between all 3 races. No dominant genes here. A perfect mixture. As seen by Hearth's Warming Eve, there were only normal Unicorns in the story raising the sun and moon. Again, Celestia and Luna obtained their 'immortality'. They were not born with it. So, Alicorns are not gods, just a mixture. ______________________________ Anyone see where I getting at here? No? Well, this thread is for opinions. Go ahead and post your headcannons.
