  1. Summer. Whether you love it or hate it, it's a active season in many ways. The days are longer and we are in the heart of severe storm season for most in the plains and the mid-west. Thank you Double D. We all have our reasons for liking or disliking the season of heat. Do you look forward to summer or do you hate it with a burning passion? Let me know what you think!
  2. I've recently heard a rumor about NASA ans the sun. It has a big solar filament, the biggest recorded solar filament and the second biggest thing in the solar system, only the sun itself being bigger. Solar filaments cause solar flares, just like sunspots, but the solar filament will cause a huge one, and maybe it'll point to Earth and wipe us all out. Farewell, at least a possible farewell. Be prepared to die a very painful death, and prepare for blindness too, it's extremely bright and hot.
  3. I guess this is a picture of the phone in question. And in case you haven't heard of it yet, link! Now I'm not going to say I'm not guilty of doing this myself. It was actually probably about last year that I stopped doing this. It stemmed from me being protective of my phone. When I was a teenager, I would want to use my phone later than I should have been. I started putting it under my pillows when my parents would come into my room and check my messages and see how long I was up talking to my girlfriend at the time. If it was after 10 pm, I'd lose the phone. And they could usually tell when I deleted messages to cover it up. Back then, you could put a phone under your pillow and get away with it. My phone (when I was 16) was a Motorola RAZR ve20. At that time, flip phones were kind of the standard phone. Everyone had em. Unless you were rich and you had an iPhone. When I was a teenager, the iPhone was a superpower, but its processor only clocked at 412 MHz. Processors back in the day just didn't get as hot since they weren't clocking so high. These days, the processor in my phone (1.9 GHz) clocks higher than the one in my laptop (1.4 GHz), and the laptop actually uses active cooling! Phones are much more active than they appear. It might look like they're doing nothing while in standby, but they can be doing tons of things at once, which engages the processor. It doesn't help that phones have to use passive cooling (because nobody wants a phone that uses a fan). Just sitting there, a phone doesn't get very hot, but if it's doing something, it's putting off a little heat. Insulate that with your pillow, and that heat will build up over time until...well...this happens. It looks to me like the phone got really hot under the pillow and the battery swelled, causing the fire. Here's the thing: just don't put your phone under your pillow. The things are way too powerful to be doing that anymore. Even if you don't start a fire like this, you can still cause damage to the internals of the phone and shorten its life. And this isn't a common sense thing at this point. She's only thirteen so you can't expect her to know much about the way these things work, but maybe she won't do that anymore.
  4. Ok, so, I thought I'd just post here to see if anyone here has any experience with thermal paste. I've got some thermal paste on the way, but I want to ask here, since I've never done this before, and a little worried. Can any of you ponies give me some tips or anything? Has anypony here done this before - and ran into any issues? My computer has been getting very hot recently... So, my computer went from a rather powerful computer - to a kettle. Thanks, just thought I'd ask, although, I can't imagine anyone here has any idea with this.
  5. Ok, so my husband and I are getting into foundry work, however, we have not been given a straight answer on the differences between the creation of cast steel vs cast iron. I know Cast Steel incorporates the use of alloys thus making its tensile strength surpass that of cast iron. However, other than the practical differences between the two, I have not been able to find anything on MAKING cast steel and how the process differs from the production of Cast Iron (i.e the heating, the risks, the basic possibility). Honestly, because of the higher carbon content (which means a higher heating temperature than cast iron) I do not believe creating cast steel in a backyard foundry would be wise (I am thinking it will be about 3900 degrees F approx. but I could be wrong). My husband tasked me with finding this out since I know my way around the Internet, but honestly, this subject is very elusive so I am asking if anyone here knows about working with cast steel in a foundry. I am not sure if my question is straightforward enough though, he just wants me to find information other than the rudimentary basics.
  6. For the last 7 -10 days over in the UK the weather has been abnormally summer like for the UK. Normally the it is cold or rainy or both! It is unreal how hot it has been, we have had consecutive days of well above 20 degrees C and maybe have been the high 20's to the low 30's. It's amazing but our temperatures have been matching Florida's!: http://www.worldweathercompare.co.uk/?city1=215&city2=3187 and are forecast to continue to do this for the new week, with the the hottest day of the year having already been broken multiple times in the last week, we are forecast to break it twice more over the next week! Currently not being able to go away for a family holiday this year is not looking so bad when it is this barmy hot, and although it may not feel the same with the lack of humidity and thunderstorms in the UK as in Florida, it defiantly feels like I am some place else then in the UK at the moment. As we all know, I love a good thunderstorm and there was forecast a change in the weather possible in a weeks time. Personally I'm hoping it lasts as long as possible! Stay safe UK brony's! : http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/heat-health/
  7. So today i got my first injury on a scooter.--ok since i was 16 but bear with me. So i was dismissed from my 2 hour math class and i had the scooter. The math building is on the top of a very steep hill and if you walk up it you feel like keeling from exhaust. Well i was at the top of the hill and going down isnt much better since you might lose your footing and fall forward. So i came to the logical conclusion that going down on a sketchy razor scooter would be better. Good news is that i did not fall. i am awesome at scootering and such. Now lets get to the part were i injured myself. Since i was going down hill i knew i had to use the metal scoop brake alot. When i eventually got down to the bottom i put the side of my hand on the metal brake. BIG MISTAKE! apparently a hard rubber wheel against metal cause friction and friction results in heat. I burned my hand pretty bad and had no medical attention. Did it hurt? yes but i powered through the pain because i am a man.
  8. Hello everypony, Raccoon here with another entry. I didn't get comments last time. Like I said, I love comments. The rating not as much, but is appreciated. Anyways, I got back from school at 4:00 PM. I took a shower, got on the computer, look at whats new. It is now 4:40 PM at the time of this written sentence I am still tired. So why is that? The answer? Track. Track and the heat, that is. I wanted to do track as a sport, had a feeling they were going push me over the limit, but didn't expect this. I just wanted to die there. I wanted mercy. I applaud my heroes: Scout, Rainbow Dash, and Sonic. They are even better than I thought. Scout: For being able to run and double jump while not even being winded. Rainbow Dash: Going that fast in the air has to be difficult, and she doesn't even look tired. Sonic: The fastest thing alive. My god, being able to run at the speed of sound and not being tired at all… Wow...just wow. The sad thing is, this is only the first day. Of course, I have 4 years to train. I'm only a freshman, and I think I did pretty well today. I need to get my stamina up though. I think tomorrow I'm going to be doing weights though. My strength is horrible though. If I got in a fight I would lose. In fact, I probably be dead. The reason is I don't care about muscles, I care about speed. Now, being one of only three freshman, I'm probably not going to win any awards or whatever it is for track. Plus, the other freshman seem faster than me. But I have to train hard. I do get a walk from school every day so that should help. I also can't wait for fall. Fall is my favorite season. It’s so beautiful. I love the brown and orange colors everywhere. So pretty. It’s also the just right temperature. Though, one advantage I guess is all the cute guys with their shirt off. Hehehe. (Yes I'm a guy, and I like girls too). By the way, I'm thinking about getting into reviewing stuff. What do you guys think? Please leave a comment.
  9. Ah, the joys of summer. It's one of the best times of the year for many. But, along with every other joy in this world, it must have its negatives, even at this time of the year where her days are drawing to a close. Plentiful are the victims each summer of many seasonal conditions, sicknesses, and the like, most commonly fevers and strep throats. There are many more examples of these harsh, annoying types of bugs flying around during June and August. Do you have any memories or experiences to share of said conditions? What do you do to heal them?
