  1. I'm talkin' soundtracks from games that aren't from giants of the video game industry, but rather people of small teams. Post your favorite indie game soundtracks, preferably via YouTube, but text is fine too. I have many favorites, but here are three of them from three different games just to keep the post from going too long. Transistor - The Spine Rimworld - Waiting For The Sun Bastion - Mother, I'm Here
  2. you know that game with the kid and it looks like earthbound and the goat mom waifu and the developer IS TAKING HIS SWEET GOD DAMN TIME FINISHING IT~~
  3. Brad Sucks is the stage name of Brad Turcotte, an indie musician from Ottawa, Ontario. He has promoted his music over the internet, allowing it to be freely copied and shared. I find his languid singing voice interesting, and his music catchy, even though I often can't figure out what the lyrics mean. Magnatune describes his style as "brilliantly sardonic indie rock." Because he allows his music to be redistributed, I was able to legally torrent all of his albums (I unfortunately have no way to pay for them right now.) Interestingly enough, I found out about him because he allows his music to be shared. I heard a song of his at the end of a Linux Action Show podcast. Has anyone else heard of this indie musician? If you have, what are your thoughts on him, his music style, and his unique publicity/distribution method? His website is http://bradsucks.net.
  4. Now, 2015 looks like its gearing up to be an incredible year in gaming. All companies this year look like they are giving us something incredible to play. Which is why I ask you this: Which games are you most looking forward to this year? I like all systems, but I have to say that Nintendo is looking especially good this year, what with the new open world Zelda and a Majoras Mask remake, Mario Maker, A new Star Fox game, and Splatoon! But those are just mine that I'm excited for. Please, tell us what you are looking forward to the most.
  5. here are too many games! Just too many games! The list of indie devs jumping on board with the Wii U is growing with each passing month, and this trailer is a compilation of a majority of those games that will be coming out either by the end of this year or during the first half of 2014! Also included are the physical games that will be coming out as well! While the physical discs are still lacking at the moment, we are going to be too engrossed in the Wii U eShop to care! For those who do not know, Nintendo has been doing everything in their power to embrace Indie Devs. They are allowing Unity, UnReal, HTML5, FLASH, IoS, and Android engines for their e-shop. They are also allowing Indie developers to set their own prices and make their own sales (Ala STEAM's policies). Nintendo is also refusing to chage Indie developers $$ to patch and update their games (Something Xbox Live did a lot of). Also, it has been confirmed that almost 1000 indie developers, programmers, and app makers are signing onto Nintendo's WiiU and 3DS platforms. Nintendo has been really fighting to make things better for the Indie developers and they have recently announced that official Licensed WiiU Indie developers will be getting Unity Pro FOR FREE (a 1,500$ value!) to help them get their games off the ground. Furthermore, the WiiU's dev kit has been lowered to 7,000$ (as opposed to the PS3's 500,000$ Dev kit!) http://mynintendonews.com/2013/06/13/1000-indie-developers-possibly-interested-in-developing-for-wii-u-web-framework/ http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Licensed-Wii-U-Indie-Devs-Get-Unity-Pro-Free-57248.html So while the media is focused on demonizing Nintendo and proclaiming the end of the company, Indie Developers are saying otherwise.
  6. WARNING EXPLICITLY HIPSTER THREAD Now that that's out of the way, what's your favorite indie band? I'm not a very big fan of the genre, but I gotta say, Morphine's my favorite.
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dlxhu_2Xq4 Some early footage of my game, tell me what you guys think of it artistically. for more info check out the website http://xiragame.weebly.com/
  8. If you aren't into all that mainstream crap, this is the topic for you! What's your favorite indie rock group/individual? Why do you prefer indie over any other genre?
  9. Well, hello! I've been disconnected to this forums for a very long time. I had noticed that Internet forums aren't my thing. In the meantime I've been playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, watching How I Met Your Mother, loving Opeth, Dream Theater and Mastodon, and, between all that, I've found an awesome band, that happens to have the name of our favorite show: My Little Pony. This awesome band creates beautiful harmonies with and awesome combination of male and female vocals, but are extremely underrated. I think this isn't fair, because we can notice other bands that don't deseve to be known worldwide, and these folks that create beautiful pieces of music are invisible to almost everyone. So my idea was to spread the word about these norwegian geniuses, but I didn't really know where. Then, an idea came into view: why not use this forum, that harbor a big number of english-speaking bronies worldwide? I don't wanna be selfish, and also I believe that with more propaganda, these guys can become the new faces of the Indie Pop. But I can't do these alone, I want you, bronies, to spread the word, so they get to the place they deserve. Making Marks: Nina Bø, Ola Innset, Marie Sneve, and Jørgen Nordby. 10. So, if any of you are long-time or huge fans of the STALKER series, you might remember that, back when the first game was announced(in 2001), THQ promised a lot of features and showed off a lot of content for the game GSC was developing, Shadow of Chernobyl. You might also remember how many of these features(advanced and dynamic AI, advanced wildlife system, and drivable cars) were entirely absent when it came out many years later, along with locations and other content stripped out and replaced with numerous bugs. While many of you, even STALKER fans, may not remember this, it would seem the indie developer group Dezowave has not forgotten. Their newly released free and standalone game, STALKER: Lost Alpha promises to deliver the game that was promised to us STALKERs back in 2001, along with updated graphics, less bugs(although, there are a lot of bugs still, and plenty of new ones, but with patches on their way), restored locations and content, all for the ridiculous price of absolutely nothing. If you are a veteran STALKER, someone interested in the series, or even someone who hasn't ever heard of the games, I would highly recommend checking this game out on their ModDB page, if you've got a decent enough PC to run it, enough space(about 15-20 GB), and a bit of patience to get through the installation. Note: the game is, as mentioned, fairly buggy(I've gotten my fair share of CTD's and crashes only a few hours into the game) and the installation isn't very intuitive, and the instructions on their ModDB page aren't that accurate. If any of you need help installing the game, feel free to PM me or post here, and I'll walk you through it.
  11. A father-son project over at indiegogo is currently in need of funding. Their goal is to be able to manufacture and sell afforable, high quality MLP: FiM pins and jewelry, which quite frankly, is some of the best looking I've seen in a long time. They need a minimum of 5'500 dollars, a goal which they've almost reached, but with a bit of extra funding they would be able to make higher quality pieces to a more affordable price with better equipment. I just want to put it out there for anypony who were unaware and might be interested in supporting them. Link to their campaign: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/brony-fim-alliance-pins-and-more/x/6792724 Here's a few images from the website:
  12. First off, I need to say that I can't believe there isn't already a topic about this. Okay, so I was in the bus last Thursday and I heard about this on the radio. Apparently, sometime in 2025, they want to send people to colonize Mars, before having even set foot on it. The thing though, is that it'll only be a one way flight, meaning they're supposed to live there and not return. Here is the site where they explain it all: http://www.mars-one.com/ I'm a bit skeptic about it, to be honest. One would think that we'd try to colonize the moon before trying Mars, no? After all, we didn't do it yet and it's way closer to us than Mars. Second, we can't know for sure what Mars is all about because we didn't send anyone there yet. Yes, we had pictures and sent ''things'' (sorry, I can't find how it's called in English :\ ) to know what is was like up close and all that, but no one living ever went there. Sending people there to not return seems like sending them to their death (they did volunteer, but still...). I don't think colonizing Mars is really a bad idea, but maybe it's a bit too soon to do it. Anyway, what is your opinion on this?
  13. Anyone want to play Hammerwatch? It's a old school style action rpg in the vein of Gauntlet. It's very simplistic but addictive. Add me on steam if you want to have a game. http://store.steampowered.com/app/239070/
  14. I always browse the Steam store...and over the past year and a bit,I've noticed more and more "Indie games." What's an indie game you ask? It's a game made by independent teams of people. Not the big corporations like Gearbox, Valve,Capcom, Konami, etcetera. They often have smaller budgets. They also usually rely on digital distribution. Such as the Steam client or GOG, or Humble Bundle or various other online retailers of that sort. Several of you may have played an indie game. Such as Minecraft or Terraria, Rust, Kerbal Space Program, Papers Please, and many MANY more. SO my question is.With the advent of the new consoles andthe Steam box on the way, and Steam launching the "Green Light" program as well as offering pre-purchase of games with Aplha stage access....And with some major game devs not doing so well (EA, Activision) ....are Indie games the future of gaming? This applies to Console and PC. As there's a few Indie games on Xbox 360 and there's supposed to be many coming out for the PS4 and Xbox One.(Though I'm not sure if there's indie games on PS3?)
  15. The big companys are out there for the money! Period! Go bye yourself some indie games (the good ones) Those are people who are making games cause they are fun! ie. Papers Please! Go buy this now! CoD and fans: CoD may as well be on the moon. They don't listen to there fan base at all. EA and fans: EA will listen only if they feel like it and 99% of the time they don't. Bethesda: Fans have a hotline with them practicaly Indie: Fans are practically sitting next to the makers Big companys are not listening to the gamers and are making the same games over and over again (with a few exceptions) Play CoD 1 then CoD Black Ops 2. Fairly simliar in mechanics and gameplay.
  16. In case you do not know, Spelunky is a platforming game with Rogue-like elements, namely that if you die, that's it. Game over. But every time you play the game it has procedurally generated levels, so it's different every time you play it. You start out with 4 hearts, and the majority of starting enemies do 1 damage, although arrow traps do 2 damage (but they're pretty easy to avoid if you know what you're doing). The goal is to get to the end of the level alive, but on the way you can try to get the damsel, which gives you a kiss, which is 1 health, among other micro-goals. If you haven't seen this game, here is a gameplay video of a pretty good player. Now I'm absolutely in love with this game. It is my favorite indie game currently, and I play it every chance I get (which is about once a week, considering my ancient computer can't run it). The game has a lot of elements that are enjoyable to me, which is why I've delved so deeply into this game. What are your guys' opinions on this game? Have you played it, or the original before? What's your view on the Pitcher's Mitt, or the Climbing gloves? (Heavily debated topic within Spelunky ) Personally, I LOVE the Pitcher's Mitt, because it gives you infinite range and makes sticking Shop Keepers with a bomb a lot easier. I get why some people dislike it, because they're used to the 'arc' of the throw as it is, and the arc genuinely does have it's uses. But, being able to throw perfectly straight for an infinite distance is obviously a good thing as well. Now for the Climbing Gloves, I like them of course, and I think they're an awesome item. I tend to get myself killed by them, though . My favorite Item is the Shotgun. Pretty simple, but it has a lot of uses. Killing things, and 'Shotgun-jumping.' Thoughts?
  17. Hello all! So I'm working on an animation called "Caring for your new pony" and I would like to find some talented individuals to help make it a reality. Want to read the script? View it here; https://www.dropbox.com/s/7csa603j7lsgt5u/Caring%20for%20your%20new%20pony.rtf Whether you're a graphic artist, vector artist, background artist, animator, composer, voice actor or all of the above, I want to meet you! In a nutshell, "Caring for your new pony" is a parody instructional video teaching viewers how to properly take care of their new pony. It's a comedy piece mainly focused on a typical American guy and Apple Bloom, his mail order pony. I have rounded up a selection of artists to record the voices for the piece and I have drawn out character designs and a storyboard to help give an approximation of the final piece. You can see the storyboard here; https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f3dygj20znvwqx7/iH8R_yVtcQ D'aww So what do I need? Well the sad truth is that I've never actually animated anything. I'm a writer, concept artist and storyboard artist so I'm perfectly happy providing oodles of sketches and giving aid and direction to anyone who needs it but when it comes down to producing the animation I fear my lack of experience may well cause the animation to suffer a lack of quality. Her new owner might be a little too affectionate If there is anyone out there who would be interested in taking the role of animator you would be welcomed with open arms. I could also use someone to help design a logo for the piece and the title screen for the animation, as well as a credits screen with links to contributor's websites. I would love for some vector artists to design illustrations to be used in the video (how to bathe your pony, how to feed your pony etc.) or even to digitize my sketches to be used for promotional art on my website and on any other available sites. I also need a male voice actor to play the part of the "Guy" in the script, you can view the audition post here; http://voiceacting.proboards.com/thread/25861/pony-animation-happy-idiot-male There is a view to turn this into a series, based on the ponies' experiences with their new human owners but baby steps for now, if we create a quality product then we can see about possible sequels. Concepts for the various owners So, no matter what you do we might just have a place for you on the team, I only ask that you're passionate about taking part. This project will need dedicated individuals that can take the time to see it through to its conclusion. All work will be unpaid as this is a not-for-profit animation since we're working with Hasbro's characters but everyone involved will receive credit for their work. If you're interested in joining, post below or email me at dilarus(at) hotmail.co.uk with the subject title "Animation". Please include an example of your work eg. images, demo reels, links to finished projects. I hope to hear from you soon, it's been great fun working on this project thus far and I hope to make it fun for all of you to contribute to.
  18. I did a quick search and didn't see a topic on this... Has anyone here played "Journey" on the PS3? It's an indie game that was released last year, the last in a series by ThatGameCompany, and it's quite frankly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. For those who haven't seen it, the game is pretty simple: You play an anonymous robed figure who starts in a desert and makes a journey through different landscapes toward a distant mountain. Along the way, you encounter fantastic creatures made of cloth which do all sorts of interesting things, from grant you the temporary power to fly, to forming bridges and other structures. The whole game takes about 1-2 hours to complete. The unique thing about this game is that while you play, you occasionally connect with another player. You don't know who that player is (there's no identification), you can't talk or communicate with the player in any way except to sing (using a button), and you can't compete with the player at all. You simply share the journey with them, or you can choose to leave them behind. That's all I'll say about it, lest I spoil the experience for anyone who hasn't played it yet. But I will say that it has some AMAZING music, some incredible visuals, and it's one of the very few games that will make me openly cry, even though I've played it through several times now and know what to expect. And no, this game has absolutely nothing to do with Journey the band, or the terrible arcade game based on it back in the 80s.
  19. I've been enjoying indiegames like FTL, Hotline Miami and The Binding of Isaac lately, so I wonder if you know any really good indiegames? Any favorites?
  20. In this topic, we'll be discussing a game called Starbound, an indie developed game from Chucklefish. Starbound is a game that's full on space travel and filled with randomly generated worlds and packed to the brim in exploration and building. This game is very akin to the game, Terraria, where you go around and build things in a 2d landscape. What's different here is that you'll be encountering new areas not by the click of a new game, but by going into space and traveling into new, randomly generated worlds. Think robots, spaceships, and being different species for your in game avatar. So what exactly will be in this game? "Not only is the terrain of the planet procedurally generated, but the weather, the gravity, the difficulty level, the plant life, the behaviour and appearance of alien creatures, and much more all contain random or procedurally generated elements." This will give us a lot of interesting builds to go through and a vast amount of replayability for each world visited. They're also claiming the ability to change many of these attributes if you so desire. Of course, this will make a wiki for worlds very difficult since they'll be randomly generated, but don't worry! The game states as to having an in-game writing pad to write down any and all findings you have about any world you visit. This means you'll be running around, writing about the many things you'll discover in your notes and learn about the new worlds. It's not stated how in-depth this feature will be, but it sure is an exciting one to think about. Worried that all you'll be getting is a sandbox game? No worries then, since Chucklefish is also building in a story into Starbound. "Starbound begins with you fleeing your homeworld in a space shuttle, just as it’s destroyed by an unknown enemy. With nothing to guide it, the escape pod shoots into space without direction, becoming hopelessly lost in a sea of stars. As luck would have it, the space shuttle touches down on a habitable planet and an adventure begins that will take you hurtling across the universe. Starbound contains both quests and story driven missions, buried inside its vast sandbox universe." Another key feature is the ability for multiplayer, and with no max limit of how many people you can play with. The only thing setting it back is how many people your server can hold. And yes, this game will also allow single player if you so desire. There is no release date out as of yet, but they confirmed that it will be coming out some time in 2013, along with a beta. It will be out on Windows, Mac, and Linux. There is no plans as of yet on a console version. The pre-order will cost you at least $15 to get in, and that comes with a copy of the game and a Steam key when it comes out, the beta, and the soundtrack. There are also different perks for additional cash that allows you to put in the game some personalized stuff. It seems Chucklefish is doing a lot here for their game, more than most would expect from something like this. Here's to hoping that this game succeeds on all they're planning to put into it. http://playstarbound.com/
  21. What is your favorite Indie Horror game? I'd have to say that mine is Ib. It's just such an amazing game. It is free, too, here's a link for downloading it. It's about a little girl who goes to an art gallery and well, things just get weird from there. I highly recommend it to anybody who is into horror games. Others I highly enjoyed were games such as Imscared and Ao Oni.
  22. Hey guys and gals! I am just wishing to borrow a moment of your time to get some of your thoughts, opinions, and ideas on some of my crew's work! I work for Toxic-Creativity, a small comic-book and video-game company that is currently in the progress of making 2 video games and 2 comic-books. We've hit a few bumps along the way but things are finally getting worked on in a speedy manner. I would be ever so honored if you would take the time to swing over to our DA page and flip through our galleries. We have models of ships, completed levels and concept work, some pics of our personal independent work, and more! And if you like us, please comment, or even better, watch us! (It can even be as little as a journel watch we'd just appreciate the support). Seriously my friends, it would be so amazing if you gave us the teensiest of peaks I promise you will not be disappointed in what we are bringing to the table! CHECK Us OUT HERE ON DA Some previews of what you'll see inside (full sizes on the site)

  24. I'm not sure if there's a topic on this, I'm on my iPad and its 5am so I can't really search to check so yeah... Game Dev Tycoon is an indie game by Greenheart Games, it recently got the green light from steam so it'll be released soon on there. It's a simple yet highly addictive game I which you are a game developer developing games through time, staring with text games, progressing through to MMOs with 3d virtual reality graphics. It's pretty fun, y'all should check it out.
  25. Got an idea for a track after playing "There's no time to explain!" It's not pony-themed, but it's my first shot at a video-game-type genre. Constructive feedback is appreciated
