  1. Let me know what do you think?
  2. Trilby owns a hat/clothes shop and this is it's design: I don't know what tiles I would use but This is just the general idea. I felt like if I added the changing rooms on the first floor, it would be too clustered. Here are all Streets Named SO FAR: I am thinking of adding streets named after the pillars and the founders of Equestria. Also there will be one called Full Moon, Eclipsed, Sunrise, Sunset and Twilight. There are some roads that used to be one but over time of deteriorating becomes separate. When I asked about any lakes/ponds Samurai Equine (who from this point on will be noted as SEq) also said and quote So those will be added soon.
  3. Here was the description I got from Samurai Equine: And Windy Breeze pointed out how Sundea Delight had her own Polar as well. This was my response in paper: I made many main streets and side streets. I didn't start naming them until recent but as I was drawing the streets, I was having the urge grow. I also made the ratio 1:6 here. I tried skipping to making the Town Center. It is a magic thing that changes to what ever the town needs but it was a failure because while I can think in 3D I can not draw what I had wanted. This was what I made: I sorta based it on the Crystal Heart due to it's magical nature but my failure to make it clear in my 2D drawing made me put it aside for now. At this point I had to make it clear, there are far more buildings and such that have yet to be marked. There are both small and big buildings unnoted. I began designing some of the houses/buildings we do have noted like the Icecream Parlor and Trilby's house. The Ratio here is 1:1 Soon Samurai wanted me to move the house and I realized the problem with paper. While it is good for planing, any adjustments would need another sheet and instead of redrawing everything for just one edit, I began making digital ones: I said this with these images: So this is everything so far. I will still make paper updates before transferring them to digital to make them easier for myself. I plan to plot this out as best I can before starting to build it. There is a lot to this but I am excited. I hope to update soon.
  4. Ok so, I know that apparently years ago, there was this big ass map of Equestria some team built in Minecraft. It had like...I think pretty much everything that was explored in the show, such as Ponyville, the Crystal Empire, Canterlot, etc. I think the server address (or at least the website to see the map) was like... or something Anyone know what happened to that?
  5. What two (or more) characters would you like to see go on a Map quest together? Give a synopsis of the episode you'd like to see them in too if you'd like, and you can do the vice versa. Here's mine: I'd like to see a Rainbow/Scootaloo Map quest, that would be interesting. Synopsis Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo are summoned to Ghastly Gorge on a Map quest, where a sister duo are separated from each other. Can Rainbow Dash an Scootaloo reunited the lost sisters, and also learn a thing or two about their own relationship? Vice versa: Applejack and Fluttershy, because we've already seen it twice.
  6. So I've got one question. Abyssinia, the kingdom that the Storm King invaded has a town called Klugetown, and the town in the desert that the Mane Six stop at is called Klugetown. Does that mean that Abyssinia is the mountain area South of the desert?
  7. Starting to build out all the actual tile maps to be used in the beginning segment of the game, up to the first badge and a little beyond, just to get players hooked and hungry for more. Now, while the completed Alpha won't be a thing until the entire game is playable start to finish, I do believe I can get the first part of the game out within the month of July. While everyone is enjoying the new story, learning the mechanics, interacting with the world, and getting that first badge, I'll be working on getting the demo in as many Let's Player's hands as possible by day and implementing the rest of the design notes by night. Time to put everything I've got into a super-polished build that'll make people go nuts when they try it. Time to make sure every 30 seconds of the game gives players a Ben & Jerry's sized chunk of fun to chew on. Time to get Battle Gem Ponies on the map! Read More:
  8. Not much was done in terms of progress this week since I took about 5 days off to basically see all my friends one last time at the local convention MegaCon before swearing to lock myself away until BGP's completion. In place of that there is tons of Pokemon news. A fan game was released and a bunch of new spinoffs were announced so there's lots of interesting things to reflect on and talk about on this week's blog.Read up on it here!
  9. The Map System I've been subconsciously dreading has finally been implemented and the rest of the menus are coming together bit-by-bit as I program all the pieces separately and connect them together (instead of cramming everything I could into one giant, unreadable script like before). The results? See the latest gamedev update to find out.
  10. Hi everyone, today I'm proposing a discussion that interests me a lot. Canterlot, the capital, but how is this city structured? We, with our knowledge and a bit of fantasy could make a realistic map for Canterlot, with the real Palace and his towers, parks, residences and main structures. Maybe a lot of you won't be interested but if you are, I hope you'll help this topic grow. I know that in MLP there isn't such a detailed description of environments, but only points where the characters are making their actions. This is why I want your help to structurate a pretty realistic but also accurate map for the city starting by important buildings such as towers, library or Canterlot's arena. After this damn long presentation I need a list of important places. I was arrived until 4th season's start but I had a year without watching it so I needed to restart. Things are re birthing in my memory! If there are Canterlot places not listed until 4th season I ask you to list them anyway. Any idea will be discussed! Without spoilers
  11. So I've been reading the comics lately and trying to map places out and I've come to notice something. Almost none of the places match up to the map. San Fransiscolt should be down near Las Pegasus but there's no place it can fit properly. Salt Lick City doesn't seem to exist anywhere but I have my suspicions on stuff. I want to know do you guys think there needs to be a new map update? I'd like to actually know if Saddle Arabia is westerly or easterly, is Salt Lick City where I think it is, and is the geographical layout of Equestria to scale because it honestly doesn't even look correct in the slightest and everything feels super cramped if it is to scale. Mostly I want to see a new map and I want to get someone to start a petition for updating the map in congruence with the show and comics. It's confusing and a tad irritating.
  12. Hello everyone. I was trying to come up with a reason for the map to call Spike on 'Triple Threat', since I found it completely unnecessary the first time I saw the episode. First of all, it seemed that the friendship problem was caused by Spike, and Spike didn't even came up with the solution of the problem. So, why call him? After another watch I saw that Spike was actually being somewhat successful in keeping Thorax and Ember apart and he delegated that task only when the map called him, distracting him from his original objective to start looking for a "friendship problem" in town. So I wondered, what if the map called Spike to remove him from the situation long enough to cause the meeting of Thorax and Ember? - Thorax initial goal was to ask Spike (and only Spike) for leadership advice. - Ember initial goal was to ask Spike for advice on spreading friendship between dragons (and maybe being shown how ponies do it in Ponyville). The episode shows how Thorax and Ember were actually a better help to each other than Spike could have been, mainly because Spike has no leadership role in equestria. At the end, Thorax and Ember got good advice but their original problems are still not solved at this point and I came up with the following: the map objective was not to solve any friendship issue at all, but rather to form a new friendship between the Changeling Leader and the Dragon Lord. My question to all of you is, what do you think was the reason why the map called Spike? I'll be eager to read your thoughts and comments on this subject, specially if you have come up with a different reasoning than mine. Greetings!
  13. What map pairings should we expect in Season 7? What pairings haven't been used yet?
  14. Just realized something, there hasn't been a single map mission episode this season announced, and we're getting to the halfway point. Think its been shelved for the season?
  15. This is incredibly impressive. Theantilove from Deviantart has plotted out the locations of each location of every disney and pixar movie. Of course, the map is missing some movies that came out in the last few years, but it's amazing nonethenless. NORTH AMERICA Little Mermaid: Caribbean Although the author and original story are Danish, the wildlife is clearly tropical. There is simply no way to have that type of flora and fauna anywhere near Denmark. It is very reasonable that The Little Mermaid movie could take place on the Danish colony, now known as the US Virgin Islands.(thanks so /u/theflyingbarney) Another big clue is the fact that in the beginning of the movie the storm is referred to as a "Hurricane." Something Europeans knew very little about. (thanks to /u/Cheesecakejedi) Brother Bear: Northern Canada, Alaska. The people in the movie are cast as Inuits, who inhabit both northern Canada and Alaska. Meet the Robinsons: US/Canada. Lewis mentions being from Canada but the tone of the family seems like they are American. Bambi: Northern US/Canada. Though originally a German story, the collection of animals clearly indicates North American wildlife. [from the bambi wiki] ""Disney took the liberty of changing Bambi's species into a white-tailed deer from his original species of roe deer, since roe deer do not inhabit the United States, and the white-tailed deer is more familiar to Americans."" Fox and the Hound: Northern US/Canada Although the feel of the movie definitely seems Appalachian, there are simply no Grizzly Bears in Appalachia, which would put the movie more north. Chicken Little: US Generally Midwestern American feel (corn fields are present) but no specifics given Home on the Range: Western US The movie takes place on a cattle ranch with several noticeable arch formations shown throughout. Lady and the Tramp: North Eastern US Small town America feel. Shown celebrating Fourth of July. A song sung in the beginning of the squeal puts the movie in New England. A Bug's Life: Texas/Mexico Border Due to the rainy season present in the movie and flight the grasshoppers take to summer in Mexico puts the movie close to the New Mexico/Texas southern border. Icabod Crane: Sleepy Hollow Explicitly stated Oliver and Company: New York City, US Explicitly stated Pocahontas: Virginia, US Explicitly stated Incredibles: Midwest/Chicago, US My logic for The Incredibles is based mainly on the design of the city. The city definitely does not have a West Coast or Midwestern feel, and my top two choices where either Chicago or NYC. I went with Chicago based on the following comparisons: The elevated trains: The Incredibles vs Chicago Where it is true that NYC has elevated trains, Chicago is much more well known for them and the style of the ones in The Incredibles reflects the Chicago style. The streets: The Incredibles vs Chicago Again, a definite Chicago feel, Chicago has a much more industrial feel to the city streets. City Profile/Water Front: The Incredibles vs Chicago I think this one speaks for itself. Parks/Foliage: The Incredibles vs Chicago . In response to the Emeryville idea. The city is referenced twice: 1. The street names are real Emeryville street names 2. When Hellen activates the GPS in Bob's suit the GPS zooms in on the San Fran area. So it's impossible for it to be both his home town and where Syndrome's secret hideout it. Especially given the long plane ride they must take to get there. Toy Story: Small Ohio town The idea here was to place the Toy Story movies near Chagrin Fall, Ohio which is the popular theory for where they are located. It is based on the idea that it is the home town of Lee Unkrich(co-director of several Toy Story movies), and there is a Go Tigers sticker in Andy's room. (The mascot for Unkrich's high school.) The weather is also consistent with Ohio in that they get a heavy blanket of snow at/around Christmas. Bolt: Hollywood Explicitly stated Cars: Arizona, US Radiator Springs is found on Route 66, significantly East of Los Angeles, which would put it somewhere in Arizona. Lilo and Stitch: Hawaii, US Explicitly stated Princess and the Frog: New Orleans, US Explicitly stated The Rescuers: New Orleans/ Bayou, US Explicitly stated Dumbo: Florida, US Where he is "born" and a bulk of the movie takes place SOUTH AMERICA Emperor's New Groove: Peru Explicitly stated Up: Venezuela Explicitly stated Three Caballeros: Mexico, Brazil and Argentina Explicitly stated EUROPE Robin Hood: England Explicitly stated The Great Mouse Detective: London, England Explicitly stated Sword and the Stone: England Explicitly stated Winnie the Pooh: England Although the real life bear that Winnie the Pooh is based on is from Canada, the books are actually set in Ashdown Forest, Sussex, England. Alice in Wonderland: England Although never explicitly stated in the movie, the writer was Englishman Lewis Carroll. The Adventures of Mr. Toad: England Explicitly stated Black Cauldron: Mythological Wales The author, Lloyd Alexander, was inspired by Welsh mythology. 101 Dalmatians: London, England Explicitly stated Peter Pan: London, England Explicitly stated Cars 2: England The last and big part of the movie is set in England. Brave: Scotland Explicitly stated Snow White: Germany The movie is not explicit enough to definitively decide its location, so the original work of the Brothers Grimm puts it in Germany. Sleeping Beauty: France This movie is based on the Charles Perrault version of this story, there is an abundance of fleur de lis, and the French national anthem is played to announce the arrival of Princess Aruroa. (thanks to /u/DrRegularAffection) Pinocchio: Italy An Italian story and they are near mountains by the sea. Tangled: Germany The movie is not explicit enough to definitively decide its location, so the original work of the Brothers Grimm puts it in Germany. Cinderella: France When they revamped It's A Small World, Cinderella was placed in France (next to the Cancan dancers and Eiffel Tower) with Jacques and Gus. Video Relevant @ 2:35. Also, one of the new Mickey shorts takes place in France and at one point we see Cinderella. (thanks to /u/rustylime) Hunchback of Notre Dame: Paris Explicitly stated Beauty and the Beast: France Explicitly stated Aristocats: France Explicitly stated Ratatouille: Paris, France Explicitly stated Hercules: Greece Explicitly stated Atlantis: Mediterranean The movie never explicitly states where the Atlantis they are heading for is. The best approximation would be the more historically proposed location which would be in the Mediterranean Sea. A common misconception with this location is that it should be Iceland; however Iceland is the location of the Shepard's Journal, not Atlantis itself. Frozen: Norway The presence of Norwegian architecture, art and landscapes (namely mountains and fjords) put in the movie in Norway. AFRICA Tarzan: Nigeria/Gabon Although never explicitly stated, due to the wildlife and the proximity to the coast, the movie would have to take place in either Nigeria or Gabon. Lion King: Kenya/Tanzania The location of Mt Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti are located here. ASIA Jungle Book: India Explicitly stated Mulan: China Explicitly stated Aladdin: Saudi Arabia/Iran Explicitly stated AUSTRALIA Rescuers Down Under: Australia Explicitly stated Finding Nemo: Great Barrier Reef Explicitly stated OTHER Dinosaur: Pangea Treasure Planet: Alternate Universe Wreck-It Ralph: Cyberspace Although the arcade has a location in the real world, the characters live in cyberspace, which is an alternate universe to ours. Monsters Inc.: Alternate Universe Wall-E: Future Earth/Space
  16. Hey everypony! Not many of you know me, but I used to be cR Spitfire. I left the fandom a while ago, but now I'm back! And I'm also back to making photoshop art. So right now I'm working on a project of making a map of the entire world... in pony puns. Countries and cities that are mentioned in the show (like Saddle Arabia, or Vanhoover) are added, while most of the world is made up of puns I've come up with. This project is roughly 20% complete, and I have yet to fill the world up with city puns. If you guys like it, make sure to leave a brohoof! Also, feel free to add me, as I don't have many friends on here. (P.S, Russia is obviously made into a parody of the Soviet Union, and a lot of the Balkan countries in Europe have been merged together (because they're so small it's practically impossible to put text in them.)
  17. I've got an original (non MLP) setting with Ponies, but I've realised I've got a large region in the continent where I don't have much of an idea to put in, other than Ponies. Here's the map below (and here's the original size). Could anyone help?
  18. Not sure if you've seen this map before, but I thought I'd put it out just for funsies. (I did not make this map, btw; I myself think the concept is a little silly, but who doesn't love a little silliness here and there?) List of characters and countries is here. Some of the characters are apparently supposed to match a little with their countries, but for the most part it's rather arbitrary. So which pony do you live in? For the record, I live in Applejack, like a lot of you.
  19. So, we've got the synopsis for over 1/3 of the season so far, and we haven't had a single map episode yet: do you think there will be any/many this season, or do you think it was primarily meant as a device for S5 and won't be dealt with much this season? I mean, we're up to episode ELEVEN in synopsis, almost halfway into the season, and NOTHING. kind of makes me think its purpose really WAS just to get starlight into the group and then be forgotten :/
  20. In Hearth's Warming Eve, the leaders of the three pony tribes travel to a distant land, each settling a different area as their new home. But where exactly was this place? Are the original settlements still around today? Watch the video to find out!
  21. Anyways, as the topic says, is it just me or is the table/map kind of underwhelming? Like, so far its just been used for being a bit of a wow quest giver and given a nod in the finale. Like, its not bad for it to give missions and all that, but the 3 map missions seemed kind of unimportant and pedestrian (not that helping others isn't a good thing, but its not like those situations are going to alter the landscape of equestria) and its only big magical nod was starlight saying "I can use this thing as a time travel power source, because reasons!" It just seems kind of less impressive overall than the EOH were or even the tree of harmony and its whole "call the mane six on missions" thing seems almost like an afterthought. Honestly, the map is starting to come off as the Starswirl spell from MMC, something just thought up to justify the plot without any real significance behind it (in the same way starswirl's spell had no explained point or reason behind it and was quicklys hoved into a corner and forgotten lest questions be asked about it). I was kind of hoping for more focus on it and thought put into it as the replacement for the EOH is all. I hope at least they have some ideas for it in S6 beyond just saying "map says go here, and here, and that's it".
  22. I read a fanfic and it was just... gosh it was so good! Critiques/comments are always appreciated!
  23. This adventure map is going to be huge, massive world filled with characters, bosses and more. The first thing I built was the Elemental room, with all six elements of harmony and a mysterious white element at the end of the room. The 7th is revealed when 6 come together with 1 other...
  24. MAP01 is finished.
  25. Pretty simple question. Note that this is not a "Where would you like to go in Equestria?" question, although your answers might be the same anyway. As for me, I'd probably go with the Crystal Empire. Sparkleriffic! Also it probably has an epic backstory with Sombra. I'd love to know more about it. Let me know if I forgot your favorite location in the poll, and I'll add it.
