  1. It's that time again. The Fall Classic. Who are you going for?
  2. Hello everypony! It turns out Game 163 was enforced not one but twice this regular season in order to determine what teams would be in the National League Wild Card championship game. But now we have our answer. The Chicago Cubs will host the Colorado Rockies 5 PM Pacific Standard Time on Tuesday at Wrigley Field. The winner moves on to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS, who have accomplished the National League's best record. The loser goes home. The Rockies have not named a starter yet. Their last appearance in the postseason was in last years NL Wildcard game against Arizona where they took a loss. The Cubs starter will be Jon Lester. Who are you supporting in this one game playoff to face Milwaukee?
  3. I've done pieces for the NFL, NHL, and NBA. And last but not least. Here is a piece of the ponies representing all 30 Major League Baseball teams. However unlike the other 3, I went to this sports uniform research site to get the correct color schemes because MLB unis are pretty much either white or grey. However, I did use gimp to put the piece together. Just as a heads up, once again you may see a few repeats in color schemes because I get the feeling a lot of baseball teams use navy, red and white too often IMHO. You can tell them apart however by their cutie marks. Like the other 3, I used General Zoi's Pony Creator to make them. I DO NOT own the logos used for the cutie marks. Same as the others, The alicorns represent the teams who have won at least one World Series Championship in the history of it's franchise. This one contains the most alicorns out of the 4. The pegasi and unicorns represent the teams who have been to a World Series, but have never won it. The pegasi represent the American League, and the unicorns represent the National League. The earth ponies represent the teams who have never been to a World Series ever. Finally, like the other 3, I used a different mane and tail set from the other 3 for this piece: Thoughts?
  4. Have you noticed that sometimes sports teams sell merchandise with famous cartoon characters on them? Like you would see Disney characters or Looney Tunes, among others pretending to be members of a popular sport team. Well I was thinking: What if they did that with My Little Pony? Somehow I can imagine them selling stuff like: -Pony figures in the team's colors with the team's logo as the cutie mark. -Pony plushies with them dressed in the team's uniform. -T-shirts and sweatshirts of the ponies as fans or players of the team. -and other stuff. One problem though is that sometimes they do this for only a select few teams. However I feel they should do MLP sports merchandise for: -All 32 NFL teams -All 30 NBA teams -All 30 NHL teams -All 30 MLB teams -Several NCAA teams. What do you think of this idea?
  5. For many years I've had a fascination with various sports uniforms. So I was wondering. Which ones are the best and worst uniforms ever made for MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, College, and anywhere else? You can probably base this on a number of different aspects. Here are some links to some sites that can help make judgement on that. Chris Creamer's Sports Logos.net Dressed to the Nines Gridiron Uniform Database NHL Uniforms.com What do you think are the best and worst uniforms ever made?
  6. The 1920s and 1930s are among one the greatest eras of baseball. The New York Yankees had greats such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Bill Dickey (including Murderer's Row). The Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals were prepared to make runs for championships. The Cubs were still relevant. Walter Johnson slowly ended his career. The Hall of Fame opened in 1936 with five of the greatest of all-time elected. But one thing the 1920s and '30s have in common is how no player is able to tell any more personal stories of life in baseball. Today, they can only be told by family, people who went to the games, and historians. Former Go Go Sox manager Al Lopez died at 99 in 2005, the last ballplayer alive in the 1920s. But one from the 1930s is alive today: Hall-of-Famer Bobby Doerr. At nineteen years old, he first broke into the Majors with the Boston Red Sox and played there through his whole career, from 1937 to 1951, not playing in 1945 while on WWII duty. When his career ended, he was considered to be one of the greatest defensive and offensive second baseman of all-time; at a .980 fielding percentage, it was an all-time record until 1953 and was involved in the most double plays turned as second baseman (1,507) until 1963. He played no other position other than second base. Offensively, his 223 career home runs were third-most all-time by second basemen at the time, hit for the cycle, and had a .315 career home BA. In 1986, the Veterans Committee elected him to the Hall of Fame, and Boston retired his #1 jersey in 1988. Today, this Red Sox legend is the last player connecting Baseball's beginning of the Live Ball Era (the only living former player from the 1930s). At 96, he's the oldest living Hall of Famer and oldest former Red Sock.
  7. This topic is to find out who everyone here roots for and to maybe connect fans of the same team together or to help users find their rivals and subsequently trash talk them. If you're an international user (outside the US/Canada), feel free to tell us which teams (and their sport/league) you like to cheer on. if you want you can copy/paste this list I'm going to use NHL - Detroit Red Wings NFL - Detroit Lions MLB - Detroit Tigers NBA - Detroit Pistons College - Michigan Wolverines Soccer/Football - none Rugby - none Pretty standard for a Michigan resident lol. I despise the Ohio State Buckeyes (college), Notre Dame Fighting Irish (college), New York Yankees (MLB), Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL), Chicago Blackhawks (NHL), San Jose Sharks (NHL), Miami Heat (NBA), and Chicago Bears (NFL). Some of these are direct rivals like OSU, ND, Chicago teams, and some are indirect like Detroit rarely plays them but I dislike how they go about things like the Yankees, Heat, and Penguins. I dislike Michigan State Spartans (college) too because they're our little brother and they hold a HUGE inferiority complex towards Michigan.
  8. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_09_09_pitmlb_texmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=pit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQxl1XnvDOE That's one step, Pittsburgh. Now get closer and win that playoff birth!
  9. This person in the small image above is the late Johnny Vander Meer, a pitcher during the 1930s, '40s, and '50s. Seventy-five years ago this week, Vander Meer did something no other pitcher did before and since. As a member of the Cincinnati Reds, he pitched no-hitters in back-to-back starts. His first no-hitter came at home in the old Crosley Field, he no-hit the Boston Bees (who later became the Boston Braves). Four days later, on the road in Ebbets Field, he no-hit the Brooklyn Dodgers. It is considered to be one of the unbreakable records because it's so difficult to throw one no-hitter. Throwing two is hard, two in one season especially (Roy Halladay threw two no-nos in 2010 [the first one a perfect game, the second the second postseason no-hitter ever and first since Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series]). Vander Meer threw consecutive no-hitters, and only pitcher came closest: In 1988, former Toronto Blue Jay pitcher Dave Stieb was one out away from throwing back-to-back no-hitters, only to have both broken up.
  10. Today's one of the best days in America, MLB Opening Day!! Who's your team, what are your expectations, and how excited for the season are you? For Detroit Tigers its World Series or bust. With a deadly lineup anchored by Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder and then AL MVP/Cy Young Justin Verlander at the front of the starting rotation, anything less than the ALCS will be a disappointment.
