  1. So I'm definitely not a fan of the current US Pop Scene (I know she's Australian). I don't live under a rock either though. Even before the movie I've heard of her. She had already adopted her iconic 2-tone wig/bow by the first time I saw her. I thought she was another name on the list trying to get more fame/attention by being a moron. (recalling Lady Gaga wearing RAW MEAT). Other than that I didn't give her much thought until I saw that she would be in the MLP movie. I became more interested and looked up some of her bio/songs/interviews. She seems to be A LOT like Tabitha St. Germain from what I've found, especially in interviews. They both LOVE colorful weird stuff are both pretty much like Pinkie Pie in human form. As for the wig thing, the big reason why she started wearing it was due to her growing fame. She's actually kinda shy and has it so she can go out with it off and not get mobbed. Opposite of what I originally thought. This avoidance of fame also spawned her Mini-Me-Proxy portrayed by Maddie Ziegler (This I do think is kinda weird.) Overall I think she's is one of the more interesting pop stars at the moment. She also seems to be a genuine person. As for Songbird Serenade in the movie- I thought it was kind of funny to put her in there, but the movie would have been exactly the same without her. I'm not a big fan of her type of music but I do think she has a very good voice and like "Rainbow" and 2 of her other songs: "Cheap Thrills" and "You've Changed" So what do you guys think of any of the below?: Her personally Her as a pop star Her music Having her in the movie Her wig Her Mini-Me Does she like the show/movie? (I think she would- but I don't think she has much free time)

Why I Might Not See the Movie

I have been avoiding all movie spoilers with a meticulous level of dedication. As soon as the first teaser was released, I began avoiding most pony content. I stayed away from the forums for the most part, and I avoided watching anything pony related on youtube except for older things. I was determined to be completely surprised. I didn't want to know anything about the movie. Absolutely nothing. I wanted to walk into the theater completely blind and just be totally surprised. But earlier today, I accidentally saw a thumbnail for a trailer. That was to be expected, since I'm not going to completely avoid the internet. (I mean, without youtube, what would I do all day?) Upon seeing the picture, I was immediately and greatly disturbed. I wouldn't have been bothered by it, because you can't tell anything about the plot from a thumbnail, but it was the animation style that upset me. I had no idea that they were changing the appearance of the characters. I mean, I had heard something about a new animation studio being used, but I just figured that it would improve the quality, not alter the actual character models. I needed to know if this was really how they look in the movie, or if the thumbnail was misleading, so I clicked the trailer, left the sound off, paused it, scrubbed through a bit, and just click a few still frames so I could see what they look like without spoiling the plot. Honestly, I am devastated by this new style. I am shocked and horrified that they would actually change them like this. They don't look right. Not at all. These aren't the characters I know and love. I expected the movie to be upgraded and look fancier. In fact, I wanted that, but I didn't want the basic shapes and models to be altered! I just wanted some fancier lighting and depth. Characters shouldn't be altered this way. Take the Simpsons, for instance. Now, completely disregarding the drop of quality of the content, the show never changed the way the characters looked, not even for the movie, and that was the right call. The movie stepped up the game for lighting and made it look fancier, but the characters were still the same. When you watched the movie, you felt like, "Oh, yeah, this is the Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie that I've always known." But the ponies in this movie trailer look all wrong. I expect franchises to evolve, JUST LIKE MLP DID, but not mid-generation like this. You can't (rather, shouldn't) alter characters that we've come to know and love. These just aren't the same ponies anymore. They're fan art interpretations. Is this cool? Yes. And this? Again, absolutely. How about this? Heh, gotcha! It's Ghostie! (For all you old timers on the forums.) But seriously, again, it's awesome. But I wouldn't want the actual show to look like any of these, because these are NOT THE ACTUAL CHARACTERS. These are fan art interpretations. And that's what this movie is. Just a big fan-made youtube video. And don't get me wrong, I love fan-made youtube videos. But it's not the real characters. I am actually very sick over this. Upset enough, in fact, that I don't know if I even want to go anymore. And today I was planning on working on my skirt to finish my EG Rainbow cosplay that I was planning on wearing to the movie. Now I don't even know if I want to see it. This animation style change feels like a complete betrayal, a travesty of MLP. Now, I'm still sane enough and rational enough to admit that the only reason I feel this way is because I'm a sick, sick person. And I don't mean sick as in twisted. I mean sick as in ill. I'm autistic and clinically depressed. (Heh, there you go, anti-bronies. Have some ammo. A fucked up person who couldn't fit into real life was drawn to ponies. Surprise, surprise, huh?) Now, I'm not telling you this to try to get attention, or to brag in some sick way about how screwed up I am. I'm simply stating the facts. I realize that I'm such a sick, sick person who is so miserable that I've placed an extremely unhealthy level of importance on this franchise. I've used FIM as a crutch, sometimes to the point of being the only thing to keep me alive. I built walls of ponies around myself to try to shield myself from the pain of my own existence. When one has no self-worth and no confidence, it becomes horrifying easy to let fictional franchises become a tether that you attach your life to, even when you actively try to prevent that from happening. If you let yourself become dangerously attached as I have, then it can come crumbling down at the drop of hat. Escapism is a house of cards. I am pathetic, and this is my own pathetic problem. I'm sure that my opinion is an incredibly unpopular one. I just wanted to express it. I am probably the only person who is bothered by this at all. I just have to deal with this, and I don't know how.
  4. In the MLP movie during the scene in the desert Pinkie picks up a skull with a beak, and in Cupcakes Pinkie brings out a skull with a very defining factor... a beak. Is that a reference or just a coincidence?
  5. When the Mane 6 got turned into sea ponies why is Rarity the only one with her cutie mark not only on her dorsal fin but also on her tail fin?
  6. My theory as to why the Staff of Sacanas could work without Flurry Heart is that it only works with "ascended alicorn princes".Becoming an alicorn princess has to be earned, Flurry being naturally born an alicorn she's not a "princess"
  7. So I've got one question. Abyssinia, the kingdom that the Storm King invaded has a town called Klugetown, and the town in the desert that the Mane Six stop at is called Klugetown. Does that mean that Abyssinia is the mountain area South of the desert?
  8. Throughout the hole movie Spike doesn't have all his spikes/scales down his back. In the show it goes from his head all the way down his back to his tail, but in the movie it goes from the top to the back his head, cuts, then 2 on his back, cuts, then down his tail?

  10. What do you think was the best part of the mlp movie? Was it the songs that sent chills down your back, or the new characters and expanded Equestria, or the animation so stunning and flowing you didn't know what to do?
  11. Alright folks, I've got a question for you! I just got curious and wanted to ask you if you have got a crush on a mare or a stallion from the whole MLP show? And why exactly? My crush would be Songbird Serenade from the MLP movie, I love her introduction, her main, her voice, the way she's singing, frankly she's absolutely stunning. I also love, at the end of the movie when she's singing the "rainbow" song the way she's flapping with her wings, aswell as ready to take off, up in the sky, spreading her wings, it's so majestic!

  15. Okay, so we already know that the movie's production began around Season 4's timeframe. They had no way of knowing what new characters would be introduced, or how drastically the status quo of FIM would change back then. Yet they decided well in advance that regardless of how the last three seasons panned out, the movie would take place specifically between Seasons 7 and 8. With that in mind, the show's staff will have a lot of explaining to do, within the context of the show itself, as to why Discord, the Pillars, Ember, Thorax and his reformed changeling hive, were never around to help save Equestria from the Storm King. And why Shining Armor, Starlight, Trixie and Sunburst apparently decided to sit the whole thing out. If they don't have a good reason for being AWOL, that will just make them look like the worst friends ever. The Mane Six would not appreciate abandonment, and neither would the princesses. Especially Cadence. I mean, she gets turned into a statue, and her husband isn't around to give enough of a flying fuck to save her? That's messed up. How do you think they'll patch all this up?
  16. What would you think if CinemaSins made a "Everything Wrong with MLP Movie" video, or HISE made a "How MLP Should've Ended" video? I would probably find them hilarious! I love both of those channels and their content! XD
  17. So, I was on IMDB and looking at the upcoming film's content advisory page and under what the film has been classified in each country it says it's banned in South Korea Is there any truth to this? Why the hell would that be the case?!
  18. Did anybody here have any unique, weird, and/or interesting things happen at the MLP Movie you usually don't see at any other movie? For me, it was mostly parents and their kids, and there was a lot of unnecessary noise coming from a good portion of them; But I didn't let it ruin the movie experience. So nothing really too special at my viewing.
  19. So that scene when Twilight snaps at Pinkie... I keep seeing A LOT of people saying that the scene bugs them. I figured it's worth discussing. Think about it; Twilight DOES NOT DO WELL with FAILING or F@#&ing things up. Now add on top of that the fact the princesses are stone and it seems more likely by the minute that she's going to be next. Then bye bye Equestria. She also really doesn't know what to do anymore at that point in the movie. As their journey has been going on, friendship seems more and more to be an Equestria only thing. So she's backed into a corner and now it seems like her friends are starting to go against her too... BOOM- Involuntary magic reflex. I found the scene fine- But I actually think they could have gone a little further. There could have been more of a magic buildup. She could have been walking more towards Pinkie (with Pinkie crouching down more) and then when she was just about to "zap" her, Rarity could have stepped in, forming a magic shield or something and then yelling at Twilight. I think it would have taken the scene up a notch. I don't think it would have really "realistically" (aka beyond the TV Y rating) been out of character for Twilight given the circumstances. I also think it would have been an even more powerful scene when Twilight realized what almost happened. Too Dark? So what did you think of the scene? Did they go too far? Did you think it was fine? Should they have handled it differently?
  20. How did you react to all the songs in the movie? This was how I reacted, pretty much: We got this together: Song? Already? Wow! I’m the friend you need: XD a tango??!! It’s time to be awesome: Best song yet!.... Dash, you idiot. One small thing: Awww! Where’s Twilight? (Obviously I found that out later ) Open up your eyes: Please no corny monologue; I like her! Wait, no, it’s a song?? And I thought no villain song would best Come Little Children from Hocus Pocus. Rainbow: I have no words for this!

    Is Sia a pegasister?

Do you think Sia is a pegasister? She was voicing in the movie, and songbird serenade was a pony version of her, obviously. Most of the voice actors are bronies/ pegasisters now, so I was just wondering. What do you think?
  22. Varrack

    This happened at the movie...

Ok, so I'm not the most confident guy ever. In fact, I'm about as closeted as a brony as you can get. Well, okay, I did go to the movie with a few other people, so I'm probably not that bad. But still I have a lot more nerves than I probably should have. You could say I had trouble getting myself to even consciously admit that my pony obsession means my dignity will be at stake if I don't go! Thankfully a gave in to these urges and got myself in the car and my butt over to that theater so I wouldn't put dishonor on my family...although my family isn't that supportive so that's probably a terrible expression to use XD So I get to the theater mall, right. It's 45 minutes till the showing and I'm just standing near the venue as awkward as I can be. I know everyone's probably staring at me even though I have no pony merch or anything so there's really no reason for them to be. But in my head they totally are. Well, I kind of do this weird walking around thing where I'm looking at the showing times on the screen above the ticket counter while also pretending to be interested in the stores nearby. I do this for about 20 minutes until I realize the other people who were supposed to come are probably late. So I have to go up to the ticket guy by myself. Well great. I'm walking into the theater when suddenly I hear the ticket guy call my name. No way, I'm thinking. He can't possibly know me. I walk up to him, and sure's a guy I know from high school. At this point I know I'm a dead man. There is no way this could have gone worse...time to pray and hope God makes my last moments quick so I don't have to remember them when I'm in the afterlife. No lie, I've done bad things in life, but this a whole new level of torture that I thought should be reserved for the worst of the worst...not me. Somehow I managed to tell him, Vlad, this guy I know from freaking high school...that I want to see the MLP Movie. I think I was on autopilot at this point, because I don't remember having to tell myself to tell him what I wanted to see, it just kind of came out. To my surprise, he didn't even blink. Just handed me my change and total my to go to the auditorium on my right. I'm kind of in shock for the next 5 minutes...did that seriously just happen. I guess...I can live to see another day. Now I've just got to make it into the auditorium. Well, I walk into the auditorium and there's one adult lady there. She looks up and I'm like oh shit and run back out. I gotta get myself composed first! Can't just walk into the room like some ghetto clown...or at least that's what I thought myself as. Just breathe deep, I'm thinking outside, when I notice that the rest of my group has shown up. YES! Finally I can be awkward with some other people. Inside the room we sit down and one of the guys has got like five plushes with him, a pony shirt, and an mlp-themed handbag. And here I am with nothing. You can imagine how I'm trying to mentally transition from being self-conscious about going to the movie as a male fan to being totally outdone by the hardcore fans around me in terms of merch count. Like, can I possibly feel normal in this setting in any way? XD Yeah, so the movie was incredible obviously. At least, I thought they did a pretty good job. After we leave the auditorium and are standing at the front of the theater, the guy who was sitting next to me goes up to the lady at the counter and asks about what they do with the movie posters after the films are done showing in theaters. He's wanting to know how he can get the poster for himself. Eventually he's discussing the fandom and what they do at pony conventions and all these things and the lady at the counter is just nodding "uh huh" to everything he says, and she probably has no idea what any of this is about. Yeah, it was pretty awkward...but I lived and made it out of that alive too. You think that was all I went through - Nope! I run into another person I know from high school further in the mall. She asks why I'm there and my friend replies we just saw the MLP movie. She goes "ohhhhhh" and then changes the topic. Yup, I don't even know what's happening at this point. It's all been too surreal for me and nothing can scar me anymore. Nevermind that we walked around the mall for a half hour getting TONS of stares from everybody and pretending like we're not. Afterwards we peeked into Toys R Us to look for pony stuff...and then I drove them home and hung out at their apartment for a bit. But ultimately, it was pretty exhausting to go through all that as an anxious guy...and I didn't die. That's the good part at least. It's safe to say mission accomplished, although my nerves made want to explode at times. I hope I wasn't the only one like this, haha.
  23. I thought the movie was pretty good for what it is. It's definitely worth seeing. Unfortunately I think a fan of the show proper is going to get more out of it though. All of us here already know who the characters are and what Equestria actually is. The first 20 minutes of the movie isn't enough for someone new to MLP to really meet/connect to the mane 6 and Spike. Also, all you really see of "Equestria" is some of Canterlot, some of the castle, the bottom of the castle waterfall stream, and some of the badlands along the southern border. I really don't know what could have been done better to fix this issue for the newbies either. An hour and a half is basically all the writers had available to work with, BUT ABOUT 85 HOURS of happenings and history already exist with the show. I'm glad the movie got made and expanded the world beyond Equestria, but I don't really see it grabbing new fans more than the show would. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of weird to think of the movie as a stand alone thing. Its weird- personally thinking of what I would probably think of the movie if I had never watched MLP beforehand. Thinkception! Think about it! What brings this up is how I even found MLP. In 2013 I somehow knew nothing of the G4 reboot- I found it looking up Tara Strong's project history. I watched the first 2 episodes on YouTube. I thought they were OK but wasn't interested enough to watch more. It was YouTube's related suggested videos that caused me to watch more because they stayed MLP related for two weeks and it was aggravating me. Finally, out of annoyance, I clicked on one showing Vinyl Scratch because she looked weird and I wondered what the hell she was, and well- here I am. So, do you think the movie is going to get new people interested in checking out the show and possibly joining the fandom? Do you think it ultimately was worth Hasbro's investment? Or on the flipside- do you think it could possibly disinterest new people from further checking out more of MLP?
  24. (I am reposting the review I typed down on Facebook. Enjoy) [TL;DR at the very bottom of this post. You're welcome.] First off, some of you may be asking "Why would a grown man like you watch a colourful kid's movie?" If my cover photo doesn't already give it away, I'm simply a Brony and I simply wanted to watch it for my absolute love for the TV show this film came from. Next, let's get to the nitty-gritty: Visuals - Very much worth the watch. This is by far the best modern 2D Animated Feature that has ever hit the big screen in years (I'm looking at you Disney and Dreamworks). Every scene was very pleasant to look at because of how marvellously-detailed the animation was thanks to the ToonBoom Animation software the animators used to make this film such a wondrous visual treat. Kudos to the animators, their hard-work was very rewarding. Sound - Even though the film has a Dolby Atmos mix, I sadly was not able to experience that in the theatre I went to simply because they do not have that setup. Other than that, the sound was very well designed, especially the catchy and adventurous soundtrack it has (thanks to Daniel Ingram for his outstanding musical abilities). Characters - We have the usual Mane 6 (plus Spike the Dragon and others of course) from the Friendship is Magic TV series as part of the main cast. Though the film definitely was more attractive with the extra supporting guest cast enhancing the movie even more so. And the roles those characters had, definitely fulfilled them really well (except for some, though I will not mention them due to the purpose of this review being spoiler-free. #sorrynotsorry). Plot - Now this is where it gets a little iffy. With the context of knowing that this is an official My Little Pony movie to ever hit theatres after the animated film of the same name back in the 1980's (and with the intended audience of not only the Brony fanbase but primarily the families with their kids), the plot was understandably mediocre and somewhat easy to predict. Don't get me wrong, however. The film is still enjoyable for all ages (no matter what the "neigh"-sayers will say), thanks to the appropriately-timed and clever funny moments that made us in the audience get a good laugh out of it. Moral/Lesson - I will not spoil exactly what it is, but I can tell you at a personal level, it was very relatable and I'm sure it will be relatable to everyone else, even though the mediocre plot as mentioned earlier, predictably laid it out for simplicity's sake. Final Verdict - with all of these factors in mind, I can say without a doubt, that this wonderful, modern 2D Animated Feature Film gets an 8/10. I know I might have used this score a lot in the past, but I am serious when I say that this film definitely deserved this score. TL;DR: With the factors of the Visuals, Sound, Characters, Plot and the Moral/Lesson coming together, this spectacle of a modern 2D Animated Feature Film to come on the big screen after years of absence was certainly worth the watch, even for just the stunning 2D visuals and soundtrack alone. Thank you for reading, and I hope you guys enjoy(ed) the film too. #MLP #MLPTheMovie #MLPMovie
  25. Just got back from seeing the new movie with my best friend a little bit ago. We both really enjoyed it. There were only a few other people in the theater; it's likely a school night for kids so keeping them up late by taking them to the movies isn't something most parents are probably willing to do. I’m not familiar with earlier generations of the MLP franchise so I’m not sure if nostalgia would be a factor for old fans. If you are at all a fan of Friendship is Magic, then this movie is for you. There are a ton of little references to past episodes of the show to satisfy the dedicated fan: Fluttershy says many yays. Discord makes a tiny cameo early on (as well as during the end credits). Twilight’s Canterlot friends from Amending Fences briefly show up in one scene. We learn that Ursa Minor is the creature who originally robbed Tempest of her horn and left a scar on her face. And Fluttershy counsels one of the Storm King’s minions at the end (leaving them in tears), very reminiscent of some adorable moments in Season 1. Who knows, though? Perhaps a few people who aren’t familiar with MLP at all will go to see this movie. It doesn’t require you to be caught up with the show. But it rewards you if you are. I wish we could’ve seen more banter between some characters. The chemistry between Rarity and Capper seemed to be hinted at from some of the concept art I’ve seen, but they didn’t really interact much. I assumed most of the new characters would be clear counterparts of Spike and the Mane 6, but that wasn’t really the case apart from Twilight+Tempest and Rainbow Dash+Celaeno. Oh well. *shrug* I know, some people are undoubtedly going to call this fan service, but the Derpy scenes (first with the Wonderbolts, then getting in the way of Tempest’s magic) are adorable and I love the little cameo by Starlight and Trixie early on. I like the animation style a lot. Some scenes do look awkward with CGI thrown in for certain objects like the airships (or as Grubber says, boats in the air... air boats...). But the scenery is gorgeous and while character designs took getting used to, I was pretty much used to it by the end. Perhaps this style, just scaled down a bit in visual quality in order to cut production costs, would fit future seasons of FiM. I’m down for that. Let’s talk about the new characters… - The Storm King is an average villain and probably one of my least favorite pony villains. Not all that interesting, and he shows no development whatsoever. He doesn’t even get to escape so that one day he can return and once again raise hell in Equestria, nor is he reformed. Instead, his death is implied when his crystallized self falls and shatters. Kind of a boring outcome. Still, Liev Schreiber’s voice acting is good. He did a solid job. - Grubber is kind of a throwaway side character. I’m sorry if you’re a fan, but when he’s not randomly munching on sweets I think he’s often annoying and really doesn't need to be talking because I hardly found his little remarks funny. Maybe kids will like him, though. For some reason his design (which I do like) kinda looks like a gray Stitch with hair. - Captain Celaeno is a great counterpart for Rainbow Dash. They end up having great chemistry. Celaeno is a loyal captain to her crew who loves adventure. Her crew looks up to her and I like her design. - Queen Novo is pretty neat. She’s a stern, just ruler of her underwater nation who greatly values her family of hippogriffs/seaponies. Not too much to say about her, she doesn’t get all that much screen time. - Princess Skystar is very much a Dory sort of character. I wonder if that similarity was intentional. :ooh:Very excitable and almost like Pinkie Pie at some moments. Very cute seapony who clearly desires the magic of friendship but sadly has been locked away in the underwater depths without many true friends other than seashells. Fits the story well. - Capper is one of my favorite new characters. He’s a sly con artist who actually has a big heart, which becomes apparent when he realizes what will happen if he doesn’t help the ponies he betrayed. Taye Diggs has the perfect voice for Capper. Oh, and Capper has an awesome design... - Songbird Serenade doesn’t show up much but she looks adorable and fits in pretty well. Her song Rainbow is cute. I’ll elaborate more on it later. Of the three pony pop stars we have seen (Songbird, Coluratura/Rara, and Sapphire Shores) she’s the least well developed but I don’t really think she’s a weak character. - And finally, Tempest Shadow, the new character who most deserves to return in the regular series. Open Up Your Eyes is my favorite song in the whole movie. Tempest’s angsty backstory doesn’t come off as trite; it works for her character's role. And I guess I tend to enjoy fictional characters like that who have some depth. I only wish the Storm King was also like that. Now on to the songs… - We Got This is a nice opening song. It reminds me a lot of Morning In Ponyville. The song and the visuals do a satisfactory job of setting the stage. - I’m the Friend You Need is one of only two songs sung entirely by a single character. Taye Diggs/Capper has such a cool singing voice. Diggs is among my favorite musical actors, with lots of Broadway experience. -Time to Be Awesome is very fun. I listened to a clip (was it recorded at Bronycon? or Comic-con? I can’t remember) a few months ago and figured it would be extremely catchy. In that regard, it sure did deliver! Also, grumpy Twilight at the beginning is great. -One Small Thing is cute. What can I say? It helps give Princess Skystar some depth. Her heart truly hungers for friendship. Also, some of the most adorable visuals in the whole movie with the seaponies. Especially the little white seapony. He’s adorable. - Open Up Your Eyes, Tempest’s song addressed to Twilight, is fairly sad but powerful. I’m not sure any other song in the movie gives me such Disney vibes. And Emily Blunt sure can SING! I love the animation during the flashbacks. - And then comes Rainbow. Very catchy pop song by Sia. It’s not as gorgeous as Titanium but it’s fun enough to provide a satisfactory dance party ending scene with none other than—surprise, surprise—DJ Pon-3 playing the music. Kind of a cliché ending, but it’s fun and leads in to cute end credits. Overall… I’d give this movie a 7.5/10. Now that’s when judged in comparison to similar movies I’ve seen, not in comparison to Equestria Girls and episodes of FiM. By pony standards, I would go as far as bumping that rating up to an 8.5/10. It’s memorable enough that I will probably see it in theaters again. It isn't really structured like an episode, so it avoids feeling like an extended episode. The plot is cute, the animation is mostly appealing to the eye, the new characters are mostly fun, and overall it’s a real treat. Well done, Hasbro. Oh, and I almost forgot…
