  1. "And so the Warrior of Ash rises from her tomb to find the forums in need of some guidance. Beset with her trusty glasses, keen know-how, and experiences in Lodran & Lothric (she can't seem to recall Drangleic too well, huh...), she now seeks to do what she can to bring about peace and order...or maybe cause more mayhem for admin, who knows?" Okay, Dark Souls silliness aside, I would like to take this time to announce the arrival of a new staffer to our ranks; @Sunset Rose! A person of great quality with a keen eye, wonderful temperament, and mature mindset, she will be joining the team of Beyond Equestria; which will include the dark dungeons of the Debate Pit! Much kudos to her for volunteering. As such, as there isn't much else to add, please do welcome her as she will be a much appreciated addition to our ranks of sectional mods.
  2. Before the major site update last year, I'm pretty that while making a post, there was a check box that could have been very helpful. Forgot the exact name, but when this check box is checked, and you sumbit a post, that post is hidden from view until a moderator checks it. It was useful when you're not sure if the post is inappropriate or not. So where did the tool go?
  3. Is it only possible to do during certain times such as this thread in March, or can applications for moderator be sent inbetween times like that too?
  4. Hi, there's something I can't find in this new version of the forum: is posting something under moderators' approval, as I can't find it
  5. I was wondering if and when this question would appear. Given that BronyCan, Everfree Northwest, and BABscon all have subforums as shown below: Should we expect a Bronycon subforum in the upcoming weeks, mods?
  6. I am a human. No, I am a male going through highschool. I am a sentient creature. I like to consider myself a revolutionary. Someone who fights the norm. (Wait isn't that a rebel)Someone that tries to encourage and motivate different behavior or action. As a student suffering from multiple different kinds of disorders that screw with the way I behave, I have an extremely strong sense of justice and ambition. These disorders include Sensory Processing Disorder, OCD, ADHD and anxiety. Are these a curse? Nope, just a part of who I am. I'm just giving you the background information so you can understand where I'm coming from. Because I believe as humans we should aim to understand one another before accusing, lashing out or sentencing to any form of judgement. I cannot take it anymore. Over the past few months, this last month especially, I have watched brilliant people, friendly people that love to help others, with their own enjoyments and passions, get treated like total and utter garbage. As if they were all rats and scoundrels. I recently wrote an essay for English class about Lord of the Flies. (OOOH YES EVERYONE LOVES THAT BOOK.) We were asked to write about human nature. I've always known something about humans and that is that we have the potential to be absolutely savage to each other regardless of what we would have others do to us. Something has happened to a place that used to be my home. It is no longer a bright place where opinions are respected and used correctly. It is no longer a world where I look forward to going to after school. I now fear opening my "Private Message" list to see what hate mail awaits me next. I now fear visiting the moderator skype groups to see what links to horrid posts by members directed at us have been made available. Most of us are introverts. Introverts by not our own will, but for our own mental safety. By us, I think it should be fairly obvious I mean the moderators and I. At school I am one of the most extroverted and outspoken students in my grade of 120 people. Before I became a staff member or moderator I was frequently involved and loved to talk to people. I no longer enjoy this because just about anything I say can be taken and used against me. Everything I do someone or some people will hate me for it. The MLP Forums has developed a subtle form of cyber-bullying that I never dreamed possible in a community like this. You are bronies. You watch a show initially aimed at children, but found a passion and concept behind it you loved because many of you have been through experiences in the past that made you appreciate the morals and themes MLP:FiM has brought to its audience. This kind of thing brings people together, and causes us to relearn things we should have learned when we were younger. It unites us into a group of people who have things to share and things to relate to. Hahaha, no. None of us have "learned" anything. All we've learned is how to abuse "freedom of speech" and "opinion" into weapons of absolute desecration against other human beings. Let me explain to you about one of my favorite elements of harmony since obviously it wasn't clear enough in the show. Honesty: Free of deceit; truthful and sincere. Honesty is the act of telling the truth. Applejack demonstrates this well, especially in the recent Season 4 Premier. (SPOILERS) When Applejack tells Twilight she should leave the forest, she was being honest. She didn't say "Twilight get the hell out of here. Me and all the rest of your friends think you should go and that we don't need you for this." She instead explained her reasoning and said things nicely because she values Twilight's feelings. She's not going to stomp on them. Sugarcoating? Pardon my french but that's total BS. This is called compassion and care. If you think a certain person "should go die in a hole" then you're not displaying a single piece of compassion. (orly?) This brings us to our next element. Kindness: Don't tell me your favorite pony is Fluttershy because your actions say otherwise. Kindness is the act of simply being nice, displaying care for someone and going out of your way for them. True kindness is doing this regardless of who it is. "How do I show kindness to someone I absolutely despise?" This is called forgiveness. Which brings me to... Generosity: Rarity is fabulous and there's no denying that. She adores her own fabulous-ness and doesn't deny that herself. Then why would she cut off her own tail and give it to a sea serpent she knew nothing about until 15 seconds earlier? This is true generosity. Giving something someone may not even deserve, regardless of who they are. That takes heart. Oh hey, I just discovered why the 6th element of harmony is magic. Because in this world, it takes true magic for the traits of the other five elements to truly shine. I have never met a single person with all 5 traits. I've never met someone who is completely honest, kind, generous, loyal and has humor (laughter.) Never to such an extent as FiM displays. I dream of meeting people like the mane 6. I have not ever found a place with many people like this. Not even here on the MLP Forums. It's unfortunate that the MLP Forums has stooped to the point of using opinions as weapons, and bullying people that are trying to help. It's unfortunate being a moderator is a hate-sentence now. It's unfortunate I accepted my position in the first place. I am here now to ask everyone just a few questions. If your closest friend was being mistreated, would you stick up for them? Could you bear to see someone being tortured right before your eyes? Why do you really like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? When was the last time you apologized for hurting someone in any way? Some of you may be surprised by your own answers. If you answer, answer honestly. Not for your image. Not to make yourself look good. If you take anything away from this rant, may it be this. Stop being hypocrites and start acting like the lovable ponies we love so much Take action before you lose the opportunity to have something beautiful here, because you may never get the chance again. MLP Forums is approaching 20,000 members. Stop complaining about how bad the forums are and do something about it. Something honest. Something kind. Something generous. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing's going to get better. It's not." ~ Dr Seuss P.S. The only reason I am still a moderator here, is for two reasons. 1. I would like to try my hardest to restore the MLP Forums I knew as much as possible, and 2. I am the project manager of Canterlot Arcade and need the presence for the forum section that will follow it.
  7. Previous Countdown List: So I've seen people complain about moderators before. Me, having experience in this particular field, wanted to clarify a few things about the moderation here and why you should not complain. So I decided to compile a list of reasons that people who complain about moderation are not in the right in doing so. #1: Moderators are not Paid While on some sites they might be paid, on here, they are not. The moderators here use their own free time out of their own free will. So remember, you may be agitated by the things moderators do that you do not agree with, but you have to remember, they are doing this out of their own personal choice. So they're pretty much moderating out of the goodness of their hearts, and people should appreciate the time and effort they put into it. Moderators don't absolutely have to moderate, if they wanted they could resign and let this place fall into Anarchy, and that would be fun for approximately nobody. Pictured: A forum after all of the moderators went on break at the same time #2: Moderators here are some of the most fair on the internet The moderation here is some of the most efficient, yet somehow lenient moderation I have ever seen. This site's moderation is like a perfect equilibrium of moderation. Any less strict, the place turns into an absolute mess. Any more strict, this place turns into some kind of facist dictatorship. So if moderators here nail you for something you did, you probably deserved everything they did.You have to understand that every system we have in place on MLP Forums is in place for a reason. The character minimum may not seem like fun but it prevents this place from falling into absolute Chaos. If you actually respect the rules, you probably will not get into trouble. Compared to other websites, these moderators are some of the nicest, goofiest, and most lenient around. I greatly respect all of them for the work they do. Other websites are much more strict, and this site gives you plenty of wiggle-room. in fact, I make extremely strange threads everyday with the consistency of abstract-art and I've never had a brush up with the moderators. The moderators here are like angels, guys, except...they're not, and that brings me to my next point. #3: Moderators are just people As much of a shock as this may to come to some people, moderators are just human like the rest of us. Now before you go into a rant in the comments about automated moderation, be aware that I've been on a site like that. Literally every user on the website was banned in a week. Now you should know that while the moderators are not perfect, they are still some of the best around. They can't do EVERYTHING, and they should not have to do everything. Users should act responsibly and in accordance with the rules. If you simply follow the rules, then everything should be alright. If there is a misunderstanding, start a support ticket, and I'm sure you can settle it. The staff team here is incredibly understanding. But the fact the moderators are human leads me to another point, do not send them hate mail. It is a mean, rude, hateful, and generally distasteful thing to do. If you have ever sent a moderator hate mail you should be completely and utterly ashamed of yourself. Not only does that show disrespect for the rules, but it shows utter disrespect for the people who spend their FREE TIME to make this place a nice and friendly atmosphere for people like yourself. It makes them feel bad, I'm sure. You have to remember, there is a real person behind every username. And that real person has real feelings you can most definitely stir if you're a complete jackass. Do you really want to be this dick, and say 45% of moderators are leeches? I thought not. #4: Moderators don't make the rules singlehandedly Moderators do not necessarily create every rule they enforce. While generally they all agree with it as a whole. For this reason, there is not really a finger you can point at anyone in particular. Even if you could, these rules are necessary to keep this place friendly. I shouldn't have to say much about this, since anyone with common sense could piece this one together. The moderators generally pool together and make decisions, and believe it or not, these decisions are overwhelmingly for the better of the forums as a whole. They may not be perfect, but if something goes wrong because of one of their decisions, they can always revise it later. #5: Moderators like to have fun too Contrary to popular belief, moderators do not take up the position merely with the intent of crushing the dreams of everyone they encounter. Rather, they most likely do it out of their love for the site. They like to have fun just as much as anyone of us. However, when enforcing the rules, they have to be impartial, they cannot make decisions based on how much they like somebody, that would be extremely inefficient. Moderators may occasionally enjoy silliness too, so I doubt they enforce the rules for the express purpose of making little girls cry. These moderators are some of the goofiest mods I've ever seen and the funniest people I know. In addition to that, they do their jobs, and they do them well. The moderators here may not be perfect, but they're the finest moderators I've ever seen. Bless them. __________ Take these into consideration before complaining about the moderation team. If you really needed five reasons not to harass the moderators, you probably deserve what ever warning you to get anyway.
  8. Dear MLP Forumites. As of today, I will no longer be a Global Moderator of these forums. The reasons behind this are perhaps complex, and I feel like I would be repeating myself if I just said it. So instead I will direct you to this topic. The major reasons I left is because one, I no longer felt my moderating style meshed well with that of the rest of the team, and increasingly I found myself having to disagree with decisions yet needing to defend them regardless. Secondly, as much as I warned in the topic I mentioned, I have lost touch with the community and my own free time. I was not a member here, I was a moderator. It's a bad enough mindset to begin with. So with that knowledge, I feel it is time for me to hang my mantle and leave the team. Taking my time to pursue other avenues in life. Thinking of other projects. and handling different things. I will continue to be a moderator on the Minecraft server and helping out in other extranet projects on the forums. I wish you all a good day and goodbye.
  9. So, everyone, Nico is returning to the forums! Rejoice if any care is given, or dismiss this with your callous disregard if so suits you, jerkface. No, no, I kid. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Nico, best known for being one of the forum's previous go-to artists as well as a moderator who stepped down for a while due to, well, a lot of stuff. I don't bite, I promise, and I hope that getting back into this community will find me lots of new friends! For those who do know me: "Hello again! Fancy seeing you again!" I'll be making my triumphant return to the forums to do... well, not much differently than I did before. So, for anyone who knows that I resigned from making banners, yes, I will be making new ones. That doesn't mean they'll be up there all the time, though! I love seeing the community's work up there! I don't really know much else to say, honestly. Just thought I'd let you all know that I'm back!
  10. Hey everypony! So recently I decided I needed some form of inspiration for songs, so I decided as a last resort to look to the forums! I'm going to be making a fan-made album that has a theme song for each moderator, with a planned medley at the end. Each moderator has a main instrument, and that instrument is what will be their solo in the medley. Here are the instruments chosen by each moderator and staff. Colour key: Green - Active Moderators Red - Resigned Zoop: Hammered Dulcimer - Theme is Complete Swoop: Harpsichord (Picked by me) - Theme is Complete Arylett: Piano - Theme is Complete Apple Bloom: Mandolin Klopp: Synthesizers (Sawtooth square etc) - Theme is Complete Redoing This One. Nico: Clarinet Neikos: Theremin Kyronea: Cello Chaotic Discord: Synthesizers - Theme is Complete! Captain Equestria (ThereIsNoSpoon): TBA Auriety: Violin NewCalamity: Brass (Military) Tich: Violin - Theme is Complete Jonke: Ocarina, Flute - Theme is Complete Feld0: "All of the instruments!" (Orchestra) - Theme is Complete (And it's great!) Kurtiss: Flute/DoubleBass - Theme is Complete Scootacool: Trumpet, (Jazz Style!) Staff Theme Medley: All the instruments. Really this time. ^Did i forget anyone? Anyway, I would really appreciate it if the moderators i don't have an instrument for yet could tell me what they would like, and what style of music they want, or if they want me to just think of something. Example of my work: (These songs are not my latest. There is a few new songs meant for an upcoming album that are FAR better.) So what do you think of my idea? EDIT: Quite a few of the staff have left since this project began. Whether I will still do the theme's I promised for them is something I will have to think about, but those that have themes already completed will have there themes included in the finale. (The huge orchestrated medley of all themes.) A couple new additions MIGHT be a possibility, such as our new global moderators and good ol' scatcoal. Here are the themes in order of how they were completed. Because IPS is being annoying, I'll just post where you can find ALL of them.
  11. just asking, i dont ask this because i HAVE to be a mod or anything. but i just wondered how you can become a moderator? and what are your powers as moderator?
