  1. I see it all the time in mlp, some villain becomes very powerful and suddenly all it takes is a simple lecture by Twilight, Starlight telling the antagonist how forgiving people and making friends with them will simply solve things. If an all powerful warlord came knocking on my door I would beat him up instead of inviting him inside and talking things over while having a brew and watching the latest episode of whatever's on TV. I'm not saying mlp should be teaching more violent solutions (As much as I dream of the day Twilight pulls out a gun on Chrysalis and shoot's her) and I'm just saying MLP should be teaching kids to be more smart with who they let into their life. If someone betrays you or tries to hurt you or one of your friends, lock the door and keep them out of your life
  2. So since there are enough villains that are reformed now I figured we could make a list of favorite ways a villain/antagonist reformed, and a list of favorite reformed villains. Also beware there are spoilers for the comics here. Now here's mine. Top 10 Favorite Way a Villain/Antagonist was Reformed: 10. EQG Twilight Sparkle aka. Sci-Twi (To start off the list lets begin with Sci-Twi she was initially a side antagonist in the movie Friendship Games that became the main threat after going out of control with the magic she stole from Sunset and the others that turned her into Midnight Sparkle. She was reformed after being defeated in a magical beam struggle against Sunset Shimmer's new form Daydream Shimmer after she was distracted by Spike the Dog.) 9. Princess Luna (Lets be honest here there technically aren't anymore good reformed villains/antagonists at the bottom of this list most are just shot by Rainbow or defeated. However the one thing that makes Luna stand out compared to the other shot by rainbow villains is that even after getting reformed she still decides to punish herself by creating the Tantabus to prevent her from ever becoming evil again. Although in the end Twilight and her friends did convince her forgive and to stop punishing herself.) 8. Changelings (The only group of antagonist on this list. They were initially dark shape shifting bug ponies, but after Spike became friends with Thorax which led to an adventure of reformed villains/antagonists they changed from dark bugs to colorful rainbow bugs. After finding out they can just share the love inside of them to no longer feel hungry. Some believe it's stupid how they all decided to reform, but I guess it's because Thorax became a king and they act like a hive mind plus they didn't really want to stay hungry anymore.) 7. Gilda (One of the first antagonist that has appeared in a normal episode of my little pony. She was a griffon that was rude even when Pinkie Pie threw a party for her. She wasn't seen again until Season 5 where she saved Rainbow Dash after Pinkie Pie convinced her they were still friends.) 6. Diamond Tiara (The only character on the list that is still a foal. She started off as a bully for the Cutie Mark Crusaders before they got their cutie mark with a terrible mother that basically told her to act and be superior because of their status as rich ponies. However this all changed when the CMC's convinced her to do what she wants and be the pony she wants to be. Now a reformed antagonist who has became a friend of the CMCs.) 5. Trixie Lulamoon (The Great and Powerful Trixie was a antagonist who was basically jealous of Twilight's talent. She didn't really start to reformed until her second appearance in the show. It was finally in her third appearance in Season 6 after she became friends with Starlight that she was truly reformed. She felt sorry for hurting Starlight's feelings as a friend to the point where her bottled up emotions came pouring out, right before she almost committed suicide.) 4. King Sombra (This is pretty much a villain reformation that was really hated in the comics for no apparent reason. Seriously Sombra literally has one of the best backstory' that I've read and his motivations were also pretty good. But when it came to his reformation I don't know why everybody says it's just like Starlight Glimmer's terrible, however I personally think it was awesome. He was reformed after his foalhood friend Radiant Hope told him it is possible to deny the destiny to become evil that he saw in the Crystal Heart as she denied her destiny to become a princess. Which led to him betraying his race that used him since childhood and almost getting sealed along with them until Hope and the four princesses saved him and turned him into a real unicorn.) 3. Starlight Glimmer (To be honest I never knew what was the hate for Starlight's reformation. Almost everybody says she was instant reformed in a one minute montage when Sunset needed a movie to reform. But literally none of this is true. Let's see here when Sunset reformed everybody allowed her to have a second movie to show her reformation, but when it comes to Starlight the moment Season 5 ends everybody just starts to hate her without giving her a chance in Season 6. Not to mention she was the first villain to ever be convinced to stop.) 2. Sunset Shimmer (Some may think she was reformed right after getting blasted by a magical rainbow laser beam, but this isn't true. In the Rainbow Rocks she pretty much had the entire movie dedicated to her reformation. Since everybody also knows this I'll just keep it short and simple.) Honorable Mention: Gloriosa Daisy (Not really a villain or antagonist.) 1. Discord (Let's be honest here who didn't see this coming. I guess this is also pretty self-explanatory. He was pretty much one of the best reformed villains in the whole series. He was reformed after becoming afraid of losing Fluttershy as a friend. Although his true reformation didn't really come around until after Season 4.) Now for my Favorite Reformed Villains/Antagonists: 10. Gloriosa Daisy 9. King Sombra 8. Diamond Tiara 7. Thorax 6. Sci-Twi 5. Trixie Lulamoon 4. Discord 3. Sunset Shimmer 2. Starlight Glimmer 1. Princess Luna
  3. I really hope the villain doesn't end up being reformed at the end like they have a habit of doing with antagonists and villains as of late; I also hope they don't go the "He's just misguided!" route like they have a tendency to do with characters, like Gloriosa or Midnight sparkle for example, with the characters not being responsible for their actions. I'm getting a bit tired of the constant reformations and "no responsibility" villainy where a character is acting beyond their control due to magic. I want to see a villain who knows 100% what they're doing and acts fully evil the entire time; the best villains in the show IMO are always the ones who aren't set up for a reformation at the end or have mitigating factors: the sirens from EQG for example are by far the best villains from that series and are fully villains who don't reform, and tirek and chrysalis are seen as some of the best villains for that reason.
  4. So, here's a question: Gilda the brush off was meant to show that there are some people that, no matter how nice you are to them, you can never be friends with, and that's okay. But in the show, they've kind of reversed that with pretty much EVERYONE being reformed or being made a friend with, with the only two villains to NOT be reformed being Chrysalis and Tirek. Do you think that the message of There being people that you have to accept as being Unfriendable is one that should be used more, or is it good that the show seemingly has discarded it?
  5. This is just a little thing that I felt like I needed to write because it’s one of my favorite aspects of the show, and also one of the few that are actually inspiring in my opinion. We all know why Twilight is the princess of friendship, sure, she has saved Equestria, defeated monsters, and finished an ancient spell with the power of friendship alone. She’s also very knowledgeable in the matter, and her bond with her friends is really strong, so strong that it was even a product of destiny. She’s basically an authority on the field because of what’s she’s done and what she knows; however, I think the reason she’s suited for that role isn’t that she’s too good compared to anyone, but quite the opposite, that she’s not hesitant to admit that she actually isn’t when it’s necessary. Twilight isn’t a character I like as much as I admire, that’s why Celestia’s ballad is my favorite song of the show, because it was inviting me to feel proud of her, and I did and still do indeed feel proud of her. Twilight’s greatest strength is definitely her humility, and that quality of hers has gotten to shine in two episodes specially: Amending Fences and The Cutie Re-Mark (both of which are in my top 5). In the former she had to admit that she screwed-up, and even though she tried to set things right through the whole episode, what really resolved the conflict is that she accepted that she couldn’t. “You’re right, this party can’t make up for the way I hurt you, but please, don’t let my mistake be the reason you can’t be friends with anypony else”. That’s a really mature lesson, when you want someone else to accept your apology, it doesn’t matter what you do to get it, it’s all about you feeling better about yourself, not about the other person moving on, in fact, that can be a pretty selfish act. You have to accept that the damage is done, and if you can make it up to them then do it, but you shouldn’t expect anything from them, since you’re just attempting to fix your own mess. Any other character would’ve kept trying to get Moondancer’s acceptance of their apology, and that doesn’t make their intentions bad, it’s just that only Twilight would be wise enough to understand that not getting one doesn’t mean you failed to do what you had to do. Of course in the end she was forgiven because otherwise it’d been a pretty sad ending for the episode, but just the fact that Twilight did it is good enough for me. Now let’s talk about The Cutie Re-Mark, being more specific, the Starlight reformation scene, which is my favorite scene of the whole show. I know a lot of people find it rushed and confusing, but I think it’s one of the scenes with the most genuine and believable emotions of the show, but if you see don’t see things from Starlight’s perspective it probably won’t feel that way. She lost any chance at making friends because of the cutie mark incident, which made her grow up totally alone, then she came up with the idea of creating the village so that she, and anybody else, wouldn’t have to feel that way ever again. After so many years she finally had friendship (even if it was fake) and wasn’t miserable, and then Twilight came to take that away from her, all because she had been as lucky to get her cutie mark at the same time as her friends whereas Starlight hadn’t. When someone who had it easier than you comes to lecture you on how to live your life based on the opportunities they had and you lacked, it’s very likely you won’t want to listen, that doesn’t excuse her actions, but makes them understandable in my opinion. What I really love about the reformation is Twilight’s speech, because she had to admit that she didn’t have the right to judge what Starlight had been through, which gets Starlight to listen to her. The lesson is also very reminiscent of Amending Fences, that the past can’t be changed, but how much it affects your future can. Twilight does a really great job delivering the message, I really like the way it was worded, and combining that with seeing her philosophy of life being proven wrong and opening to Twilight about her past, I don’t find it hard to believe that Starlight would just accept Twilight’s help in the end. As I said, Twilight is the princess of friendship for a reason, and I think these scenes are the ones that show why she’s the one that holds that title.
  6. So, after the S6 finale, lets trot out this old question: How do you feel about the number of reformations that go on in the show? this has been a point of contention in the past about the number of Antagonists and villains reformed, and so this question seems pertinent in light of the events of the finale: Do you think there are just enough reformations, too many reformations, not enough reformations, ect.?
  7. Alright guys...I need to ask a serious question...it may not seem serious to you, but your answers will mean a lot to me. Confused? probably...let me explain. We all know the story of Discord... In "Return of Harmony" we saw him take away the very essences of our beloved ponies, we saw him turn the world upside down, ruin cherished objects of others, and just overall show no respect for people's boundaries, lives, or property. But then, in "Keep Calm, and Flutter On" we saw the reform of Discord...we saw a lot put at risk, to trust in someone's word of "I've changed...I'm good now." And to be honest, it kinda failed...Discord betrayed everypony as soon as he got the chance...He had a change of heart at the end of course...but here's the thing... Put yourself in the pony's hooves...if you had personal attacks done to you, by someone who only cared about benefiting themselves, even to the point of violence...and suddenly, he turns around and says..."I didn't mean it, you can trust me now...here's something (money, promises, items) as a sign of friendship" Should you really trust that? I mean...I believe strongly in forgiveness...but also, in being intelligent... I'd forgive the individual, but avoid them, until I was absolutely sure there was a legitimate change... I am asking all this, because I'm going through a situation right now that mirrors EXACTLY what transpired in "Return to Harmony" and "Keep calm and flutter on"...and I don't know if I should trust this person who contacted me saying "I'm different now, here, have these things." Mainly because in "Twilights Kingdom"...Discord did some terrible damage after being trusted again...damage that included the destruction of twilight's house, loss of power to every pony in equestria, and possibly lives/civilizations at stake. Is it really worth to take such a big risk just based on someone's word/action? Especially if they're known to be devious and untrustworthy? What do you think?
