  1. Scientists have detected signs of life in the clouds of Venus, what do you all think? https://phys.org/news/2020-09-hints-life-venus-scientists-phosphine.html
  2. Hi everypony Throughout the years, I've read several interesting posts such as "How fast was Rainbow Dash when she achieved Sonic Rainboom" or "Comparing scales in MLP universe to our universe". So I thought it would be interesting to do a project on studying how the Equestria solar system would look like. I started this project a year ago but now I finally wrote it in a readable fashion (by which I mean in a way that hopefully makes some sense ). I 'published' this paper here in picture form, but I also attached the original pdf file. Project_MLP.pdf. I hope you guys enjoy it and please do let me know if something I wrote doesn't seem to make sense or is not clear . Any form of feedback would be amazing and greatly appreciated . And let me know what are your thoughts on how the Equestria solar system should look like or any other thoughts you have on the role of Science in Equestria in general. (pictures can be enlarged upon clicking and zooming in in a new window ) (note: This is an updated version of a blog post on the same topic I did a year ago. Now that I looked back, there were a few (huge) mistakes there which I now corrected) Project_MLP.pdf
  3. i was wondering this and thought i'd try to get your opinion
  4. Like the title say: Can you read Binary numbers? If you can, you can respond with yes, or a 1, or whatever you like! However, if you can't maybe you will be able to after you read this post (by me, the lousy teacher): Oh my, you made it this far? Did you look inside the spoilers? I hope you did! Next up is multiplication... (And yes, it exists): And lastly, division. This is actually a difficult matter. I don't have all the answers on this one. While you can do the reverse of the multiplication, it is still out of reach for me to solve all cases: So, if you made it this far, it is only one more thing to learn then. How to read binary numbers. When you have read this one, you don't even need to reply to this topic as you will know by default, the answer: So, now, you should be able to read binary numbers without using a calculator.
  5. So, I was watching one of the episodes in MLP, and I though: Are ponies way overpowered compared to humans? I mean, sure, we have access to nukes, missiles, jets, tanks, warships, and explosives, and intelligence. However, in one scene in MLP, Starlight Glimmer and most unicorns showed the ability to teleport from one location to another at light speed, something which humans haven’t even invented yet. And, Twilight Sparkle and other unicorns have showed the ability to spawn and transform items from cups to birds, out of thin air. Pegasi, on the other hoof, have the ability to control the weather and create natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning storms, and typhoons. They also have the ability to create rainbow nukes, as seen from Rainbow Dash in one episode, and the ability to summon lightning from the sky. Also, there are ponies like Princess Celestia and Luna who are capable of moving the sun and moon with a bit of power. Besides, in a fanfic, Fallout: Equestria, the main pony, Littlepip, who is a unicorn, showed the ability to lift stuff like train cars, which weigh 30 tons, while the most strongest man in the world, only managed to lift close to 6 tons. She also is capable of lifting stuff like huge rocks, bookshelves , and wagons, and has shown the ability to create weapons out of blood, which apparently is impossible on Earth. The other characters, have also shown to create magic shields, and have the ability to fly. Soooo, what do you guys think? Are ponies really wayyy powerful than humans, or are humans more powerful than ponies? Tell me below!
  6. I know chickens and waffles both are delicious foods, but why those two specific food served together in many places? It’s like eggs and bacons or burgers and fries. (Which I understand why they are served together.) Anyone know why? Any historical background or a practical reason like convenience or just the taste of them two compliments each other? Or a nutritional reason? Because for me, I think them two together seems a bit random.
  7. Now, since I’m in a country in which winter is non-existent here, I’m kinda wondering how is winter and snow like in your place, the Western World. I’ve only seen winter about 4 times, and actual snow only one time. So, snow is kinda like a foreign object to me. You guys see it almost all the time, so how is it like? Is it nice, or is it cold and blocks roads?
  8. What if the Earth was hollow? Do you suppose there would be an entire civilization inside?
  9. Everyone knows how wonderful and amazing this blue planet of ours is, but which of the other 8 (Yes, I am including Pluto) planets is your favorite? Saturn is my favorite planet in the solar system!
  10. Experiment with any psychology? Try to apply psychology to your daily life? Try to understand or analyze things? Do you find brain facts curious and pleasant? Do you know the major difference between neurology and psychology? What are the problems with psychology, and what are its merits. What does psychology mean to you, and how has it effected you in the past?
  11. What does everypony think of the binary counting system? I'm learning a lot about it in my computer classes, though what would it be like if it was the only counting system we had? Would you want to always write a number like 10 as 1010, or 55 as 110111? Maybe we should just use hex all the time, and write those numbers as A and 37. (I sure hope I got the number conversion right )
  12. How dark are the skies where you live, according to this map? https://cires.colorado.edu/Artificial-light I live in a yellow zone. The Milky Way is visible but there is a light dome that extends about 45° in the eastern sky. The clouds overhead at night are faintly lit, tho they're much brighter towards the light dome. Hopefully later this year, I will move to my new place, which is in a blue zone. Over there, the Milky Way arches over the sky and the clouds are black for most of the sky. The Zodiacal Light is incredibly bright before sunrise. There is one low light dome present about 12.5° above the southeast horizon. There are so many stars visible, it's breathtaking!
  13. For some odd reason I want to believe that he is real even though I've never seen him. My uncle claims that when he was hunting one year he saw him and he ran away. I don't know if I want to believe that is true, but you never know. Anyways, do you believe in bigfoot? If you do I want to hear why and if you have a story behind it, I'd love to hear that too!
  14. Since I've not seen any weather related topics here, I might as well be the one that makes it. Here, we can talk about what's going on in the world weather wise.
  15. Well do you ? I do , for too long sometimes .
  16. Does anypony here own a telescope? If so, what kind and how big? I own several telescopes. Each one has it's own purpose. 90mm Achromat refractor (astrophotography telescope) Celestron C90 - 90mm diameter (My travel telescope) Celestron C8 - 8 inch diameter (planetary imaging telescope) Skywatcher 16 - 16 inch diameter (High resolution planetary imaging)
  17. Static electricity is particularly bad during the winter when the humidity is low. I seem to charge up like a giant capacitor and find it extremely annoying. So much so, I often carry a metal rod in my pocket and use it to discharge on a door knob instead of my fingers. It works well. Anybody else find static electricity to be irritating?
  18. If technology would allow you to make your life significantly longer or immortal by enhancing your body mechanically or replacing it completely would you do it?
  19. What is your favorite school subject? Mine personal is art and creative writing.
  20. I kind of am. I just think they look so much cooler in things like Jurassic Park and Walking With Dinosaurs.
  21. I am actually surprised, that i never asked this Question. Pretty much what this title says. Do you believe in hypnosis? It's pretty obvious that i am a believer in it, considering who i am and that i am a hobby hypnotist who practices it from time to time. I think the people who don't believe in it, are mostly scared of it, or just think of the stuff they have seen in Movies and TV Shows and that's why Hypnosis is often very misunderstood. What are your opinions?
  22. Ever heard the phrase "if you eat a block of cheese you're 1% cheese?" What if you eat a chunk of meat from a real pony? Are you 1% pony? You are what you eat????
  23. I think this belongs here? It does talk about fictional stuff, but it's not exclusively about fiction. Anyway, what's your favorite robot, mecha, machine, etc. that you've seen? It can be real, exist only in blueprints, or be entirely fictional; as simple or complex as you wish. It has to at least fit the definition of a machine (with robots and mecha being spcialized machines), so it has to have a legitimate purpose and at least two moving parts that work together. An electric toothbrush could probably even classify as a machine if you have a favorite one of those or something. The Panther tank is probably my favorite machine. It was an incredible feat of engineering for its decade (especially once the engine problems were ironed out), an if there was a beauty contest for tanks, it would win every time. My favorite mecha that currently exists is the Method 2. Each of the fingers are individually controlled, and it can actually walk. It reminds me a lot of the ones from the movie Avatar. If anyone knows about The Hacksmith on YouTube, he's working on building a power loader from the Aliens movie. It probably won't be done for a few years, but one of the arms is finished, and it's ridiculously strong. Now for fictional mecha. as I've said many times before, I love BattleTech and the BattleMechs in it (mainly Clan 'Mechs). The Timber Wolf is my favorite for looks (it's like the Panther tank, just so damn graceful), and at its time of release, it was unmatched in terms of combat ability. The Warhawk is really cool too, though. It has such a menacing figure, and its prime configuration of weapons definitely backs up that intimidation factor (not to say that the other configs aren't dangerous, just that if a pilot doesn't miss with the prime variant, whatever it hits is almost certainly dead with one salvo). Armored Cores (from the game Armored Core) are really cool too, and they're more like your average futuristic mecha, being highly customizable and extremely mobile. I generally don't like that kind of mecha as much as things like 'Mechs from BattleTech, but they're still awesome.
  24. Since hurricanes Harvey and Irma had hit the US and the Leeward Islands, including Puerto Rico, now Maria is forming to hit the Leeward Islands, including Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic again. It seems that no matter how nice we are to Mother Nature, seems all she cares about is senseless destruction to many normal lives, even giving them nothing but pain and misery, not to mention the endless suffering. You can try and contribute to nature, but nature itself will never return the favor and resort to causing as much destruction as possible so that many people will suffer from food shortages and electricity being knocked down, as are their infrastructures as well. It seems that this year, mother nature's bringing hell on the weaker islands, no matter how well-prepared they are just so many people (myself included) will be suffering a lot. Not to mention having nowhere to evacuate due to inadequate funds. Anyone else realizing that Mother Nature is just not nice in general, no matter how much we try and improve?
