  1. It's kind of odd to see someone questioning the idea of friendship within a group dedicated to it. And yet, I still question. So, what is friendship? And I challenge you not to immediately jump to the obvious answer of "magic". The show and, of course, the fandom has conditioned you to say that. But have you stepped back and considered the connections that you make with others across miles of land and ocean? How close are they? How many do you maintain? Can they be as strong as a relationship created in "real life"? But first, some definitions: Our lovely friend Merriam Webster defines friends as: a person you like and enjoy being with But you already knew that. If you didn't like somebody, you wouldn't be friends. However, this doesn't address a reciprocal relationship, so, in theory, you could simply proclaim to be someone's friend without their consent, and it would be true. Now compare that to Merriam Webster's definition of...: Love: a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person Affection: a feeling of liking and caring for someone or something Magic: special power, influence or skill So, one could assume that a friendship contains at least some love, no matter the circumstances. Sure, a best friend's love is on a different level than that of a crush or the like, but love remains. On the topic of "friendship is magic", based on this definition only, I'd say that's true. Friendship can certainly influence others into doing things, and it most certainly has power. But I think that its power is hyped too far by some. I know this is a lot of information, but I'd also like to point to Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis. In his work, Civilization and Its Discontents, he says that love within a person is finite. You can love or make friends with as many people as you'd like, but with each relationship that you tack on, the individual gets less and less love. And considering strangers, he says the following: "Not merely is this stranger on the whole not worthy of love, but, to be honest, I must confess he has more claim to my hostility, even to my hatred." Human nature tends to hate strangers, simple as that. He also goes on to say that your strongest love at all times is that of yourself. We, as humans, as naturally egocentric. So, given the information above, what do you agree with; what do you think? How does this relate to the fandom? Consider the problems when looking at people on Facebook with over 1000 "friends". And, even here on the forums, that problem can exist. Though I don't have a lot of evidence to go off of, that problem must exist. Surely, one with hundred of friends cannot possible have high levels of relationships with them all. Granted, I have been here for a bit over a month, sporadically. I also have four friends, here, only one of which I communicate with consistently. So, perhaps I'm blind to the "magic" so many speak of. (This is not a plea to get more friends, by the way, but, I admit, a guilt trip can go a long way).
  2. Obviously with the new renovations to the forums a lot of things have changed, and of course there are a few things to dislike, however I personally find that the size of the avatars on forum posts are a bit too small, and they make the images appear a bit blurred because of it. simply upping the dimensions by 20-30 pixels can help fix this issue, for comparison 90px x 90px 120px x 120px The image itself is much more clearer and helps consume white space without taking up much space.
  3. so i have pondered this question for a while. How big do you think the ponies are compaired to humans? I've thought about it for a while, and i want to know what y'all think.
  4. How big is Equestria? It seems like it would be fairly large sized, with the variety of places in it. For reference here is a map
  5. While the real-world explanation is probably "because his clumsiness wouldn't be as destructive or funny if he were the same size as other ponies", what's the in-universe reason? Is there any significance there?
  6. What's the size of your screen? I have a 4:3 1200x1024 screen. I dunno why I'm starting this topic I guess I'm just curious.
  7. I suggest implementing a feature that automatically adjusts the size of an uploaded avatar to its limit (150x150 pixels, I think it was). That way the user won't have to constantly flip back and forth between their Paint tab to adjust it themselves when the forum software can do it for them in a jiffy.
  8. In Adventure Time, just how tall is Fionna? I think maybe 5"3, but I'm not sure.
  9. I made this out curiosity. But what happens when everyone's signatures can be in any size instead of the 600x100 restriction? I am not suggesting this of course or make it real . But I want to know what happen, because I feel nothing wrong if this forum can have a signature in any size.
  10. So, just a bit of feedback on the size of signatures on the forum. Now I think that the size nor normal users is ok, and does not need to be changed, but I feel like the size for subscribers is possibly to big and the size for moderators is just massively to big. Now I don't have a small laptop, but this is what my screen sees sometimes: (see attached file) as you can see it fills up atleast a 1/3 of the screen. This is crazy! I didn't come to the forum to see peoples signatures but to read the topics. I know signatures are an important part of your online persona, but why do moderators sigs have to be so much bigger? It sometimes feels like they are trying to show it in our faces sometimes! Now I'm suggesting that you make them smaller and standardise the signature size to be the same as non subscribers. In the end, they still get a bigger portrait (which is fine as it stays out of the way) so why the need for such big signatures? It also severely reduces my ability to read topics quickly: a. they load slower b. they take forever to scroll throught. It seems crazy to be that signatures can be so much bigger then then persons post! Anyways, I hope this didn't come over to ranty, and if there was a way (or is that I can't see) to turn signatures off for me then that would fix the problem as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this, Happy Plant
  11. I've been looking at renders from official merchandise in which ponies are side-by side , and despite the insistnce that the Mane 6 are all the exact same body base, I've noticed that Pinkie Pie is noticeably shorter than twilight, even before Twilight became an alicorn. I've paused during episodes when at least two characters are lined up and the same distance from the foreground, and I have noticed height differences. Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, and Rarity are generally taller than Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. I haven't taken a look at Fluttershy yet. It seems like there is a subtly difference. This is called Divergent Character Evolution. A similar comfirmed phenomenon is that the Cutie Mark Crusaders do look a little taller in later more recent episodes, from Season 1 to 3 and beyond. I haven't noticed one being taller than the other, but theere are subtle changes. It really looks to me that Twilie has always been taller than at least some of the others in the Mane 6.
  12. Does anypony know of the existence of adult-size MLP:FIM pajamas? And, if so, where one might obtain some..? I'm a PJ lover.. I practically collect pajamas (they take up over 3 drawers in my dresser), so I'm just wonderin' if any of you have a clue because I sure didn't find anything when I searched for it...
  13. I was just wondering, but what determines the size of an avatar? Is it the picture? The amount of KB? The pixel ratio? I'm also wondering about what determines how the quality of an image used for an avatar comes out? These are just some little concerns of mine that have been bugging me for quite some time now. In my experience with using the avatars, whatever image I use, regardless of how big and high-def in quality it appears, once I make it into my avatar, it becomes really small and kinda low quality. And I've seen plenty of other user's avatars come out nice, big, and good in quality And most of the following user's aren't even donors or mods. So this makes me kind of confused. If you guys can check my profile, my avatar does appear relatively smaller than average, at least from what I've seen. I would like it to appear big and better in quality somehow. I've been editing it constantly, but it always seems to come out the same way. TL;DR What determines the size and quality of an avatar? What can I do, to make my avie appear larger and in better quality? Again, I'm pretty sure not being a Donor, Subscriber, or Mod is not relevant to the problem here, as I've seen other regular members here with really good size and quality avatars. Thanks in advance.
  14. How tall do you think the EQG cast is compared to normal humans? It's been estimated that the height of the mane 6 ponies is between 3'6" & 5ft tall, fillies between 1'6 & 3ft tall and full grown cast members like Big Mac & Luna would be between 4'6 & 6ft tall. So how tall do you think the cast members are?
  15. As I've watched MLP: FiM, and as they've introduced (and technically taken away) alicorns, I've been wondering . . . Does an alicorn's physical build reflect their accrued abilites and powers? Let's take a look at what's triggered this thought process. Princess Celestia: Celestia is revered as one of the strongest ponies in Equestria as we know it. Though we do not see her do much fighting - as she is focusing more on training Twilight and taking care of the kingdom- we know she's rather powerful. She raises the sun - and at one time, both the sun and the moon - and she was able to banish Nightmare Moon once she came into existence. She's very tall and slender. Princess Luna - "Normal:" This particular picture features Luna once she has gone back to "normal" in season two. She's similar to Celestia now in stature and . . . that cool thing they do with their hair. We know Luna is rather powerful as well, as she once raised - and, I assume now that she's returned - and currently is raising the moon. Probably has the same range of power as Celestia, although, I'm certain they have varying abilities. Now, when Luna was consumed by negativity, she became Nightmare Moon. After the EoH defeated NMM and returned Luna to, well, Luna, we see this: Princess Luna - "Down-Powered:" I say that this Luna is "down-powered" because NMM was pretty much overpowered, to an extent. I'm sure that after being consumed by all that corrupt power, Luna would be somewhat drained. That, or she reverted to her appearance from when she was banished 1,000 years ago. A plausible argument, in my opinion, as one can grow exponentially stronger over the course of 1,000 years, at least if they're a royal alicorn. Here's a size-comparison between D-P Luna and Celestia. They're crouching, so they're essentially at the same height, you just can't see their full legs here: If we assume that physical state corresponds with power and ability, and that Luna was under-powered in season one for some reason, then this begins to make sense. Also, here's a size-comparison between Celestia and the Mane 6 to give everyone a better idea of how tall Celestia is: Celestia is approximately twice the size of an average mare, counting the horn. If not, it looks like a mare is two-thirds the size of Celestia. But this craziness does not end here! Oh no. Let's delve into what the season two finale brought us. Princess Cadence: We didn't know much about Cadence during season two, other than she has the ability to mend relationships/spread love, was Twilight's foalsitter, and is marrying Shining Armour. In season 3, we know Aside from all that, we can see Cadence is notably taller than Twilight, being about equal height with Shining Armour, who is a full-grown stallion. However, Cadence's horn is longer than his. Cadence is also still shorter than Celestia. This may suggest that she is stronger than Shining Armour, but weaker than Celestia (in terms of accrued power/ability). Here they are during the wedding, all standing on level-ground: And here's a comparison between Twilight and Shining Armour to help with size comparisons: Queen Chrysalis: Chrysalis is about the same size as Celestia and was able to knock her down, suggesting that Chrysalis is rather powerful. That and she's even a Queen, not a Princess, leading an army of love-eating . . . pony-bug-Changling things. So, recap: Celestia and Luna are rather strong, probably both the strongest and tallest we know of right now. Luna seemed under-powered and shorter once she was transformed back from Nightmare Moon. Cadence is pretty strong, being an alicorn and all, but she's still shorter than Celestia. She is at equal height with Shining Armour, but her horn is longer than his, but shorter than Celestia's. Queen Chrysalis was about Celesta's size, and was able to defeat her (to an extent). So what do you think? Does an alicorn's size reflect its power?
  16. Is it possible to find a rainbowdash hoodie like this one; In a mens size? If so where could i find such a thing?
