Corporal Firebolt Blitz, a pegasus of sound mind and wounded, but patched up body, was one of the many infantrymen en route to Forward Camp Selene aboard a convoy of Opel Blitz trucks escorted by a pair of SdKfz 223 armored cars. Security was tight as the Axis worked to ensure no Allied aircraft could get a bomb on their forces, particularly the panzer divisions which were instrumental to seizing the castle ruins. Blitz sat, among his side of 8 soldiers in his truck, with a face as hard as stone. His expression was grim and from his mouth, a cigar slowly burned, smoke leaking from its butt. Blitz took a puff, before removing the cigar from his mouth. The hoof which held it landed gently atop his MG42, which was standing on its own butt. Next to Blitz was the prisoner he had helped save from the Royal Guard at Canterlot, Scarlet Soul. The two had enlisted at Manehatten, before being sent out to the Everfree, which was turning into a mess of gunfire, explosions and general mayhem. Scarlet's expression was a mix of fear, contemplation and worry, but mostly fear. "You OK Scarlet?" Asked Blitz. "Yeah, I'm fine Blitz". Replied Scarlet uneasily. Blitz could sense the terror, but also the resolve, in his voice. He was fearful for his life, but at the same time he was ready to give his life for the cause if need be. "Don't worry, we'll be fine". Said Blitz, comforting the young unicorn before placing his cigar back in his mouth. Opposite him were two other troops, Jump Cut and Sven Schafer. All were there for the same reason he was; fight to bring Princess Luna back to Equestria and restore her to power. The first step, however, was getting the Element of Magic and leader of the Element Bearers, Twilight Sparkle, out of the clutches of the Western Alliance and into their safe hands.

After some few minutes, the trucks pulled over. The crew moved in and opened the back door, the NCO behind them ordering the troops to bail out and link up with their squads. "OK Scarlet, I'll see you on the other side" Said Blitz. Unfortunately, Scarlet had been assigned to the 3rd Panzer Division, but at least Blitz got the chance to see him off. "Listen Blitz" Said Scarlet. "In case we don't see each other again, thanks for saving me". "Anytime, now get out of here soldier". Said Blitz, who watched as his friend nodded to him before heading off to rendezvous with his platoon. As the clanging of metal and the chugging of engines resonated around him, paired with gunfire in the distance and various voices calling out all across the camp, Blitz remembered that his first and only order so far was to find a sergeant by the name of Clear Waters, who was with the 6th Panzer's 103rd Motorized Infantry, and report to him. Hoisting his MG42 on his shoulder, Blitz looked around for his squad leader. None could be seen from his current glance, until his eyes met with the figure of a pegasus dressed in military uniform standing next to an SdKfz 250 halftrack. He was looking at his standard-issue clipboard, and his stripes bore the rank of sergeant; could this be the one he was looking for? Not willing to pass up any chances, Blitz stepped before the sergeant, before standing to attention and saluting him. "Corporal Firebolt Blitz, reporting for duty sir".

Jump could feel the cigarette wiggling in between his lips as the truck passed over the bumps in the road. The smoke trail was running of to the right of his face and out the back of the truck. Looking down and oblivious to what was going on around him, Jump was staring long and hard into the Ace card on his helmet. He was lost deep in thought. He then felt a jolt as the truck came to a sudden stop. He could hear yelling and the gunfire in the distance. as everyone stood up Jump slowly slapped his helmet on and picked up his rifle that had multiple carvings in it. He then stood up and jumped out of the truck.

not really caring what was going on he followed everyone else, but knew what was coming though. True Jump rather make peace and friends with the opposition. but his appreciation for Luna is too great to let him not fight. Once the group comes to a halt his ears perk up in wait for orders.

Sven was in the back of a truck. Even with the armoured vehicles covering them, and they were deep in axis territory, he was still uneasy. His whole body shook uncontrollably to the bumps in the dirt track. The whole truck was silent, apart from the sound of the engine and the squeeky suspension. Sven sat there just looking out the back at the vehicle behind them, until someone spoke. He turned his attention to the pony who had spoken, and saw what looked to be a battle-hardened pony reassuring the unicorn next to him that everything would be alright.

"The sooner you accept the fact that you are already dead, the sooner you can be the soldier Luna needs you to be."

And after this, he carried on staring out the back until he saw the gates of the base. Realising he was at the destination he readied his equipment and prepared to jump out the back. By this time gunshots and the occasional explosion could be heard in the distance. After he heard the click of the hand break he jumped out the back, slinging his rifle over his shoulder and heading in the same general direction as Blitz. He noticed the sergeant badge with the name Waters above it. That was his new squad leader. He headed towards him and stood to attention in front of him, saluting him in the process.

"Sven Schäfer, reassigned to your command from the Fallschirmjäger paratroopers. I've been feet first into hell and back again, and now I'm ready to fight on the ground... Sir..."

Silver Echo looked around. With the faint smell of a cigarette's smoke and the voice of Sergeant Clear Waters, she was unsure about what they were doing next. She stepped towards them, listening in on what would be happenening as the war continued. She felt odd, being so young, but yet so useful, in this this war. Walking away, she mumbled to herself something her father had taught her, before he had died. "Only put in the pain if there really is no hope. Always try your best... and NEVER let them down." Finished, she looked up to see Sargeant Clear Waters taking questions. Looking back down, she started to breathe faster. What if they didn't make it? What if she never got to see their families again? What if she didn't make it? What if she never got to see Midnight Blue again?

"Enough!" She whispered to herself. She stood back up, trying to hold back tears, but failed. She ran off in a sobbing mess.

Acknowledging the sergeant's unnecessity for formalities, Blitz stood at ease, listening to the debrief as his commanding officer saw it. As he spoke, Blitz's suspicions were becoming more and more correct with every passing word. Following the Battle of Ponyville, he had heard stuff from the officers about the Element Bearers being split in half, with the leader, Twilight Sparkle, supposedly seen running into the uncharted depths of the Everfree Forest. Luna only knew what lurked in that labyrinth of plants and animals, but one thing was for certain; the Axis and Allies weren't just fighting for territorial gain. Twilight was holed up in the castle ruins, and the situation had turned into a race to the finish line between the two sides. Undoubtedly, Lulamoon would have their plots if they failed to extract her, which was why Blitz was determined not to fail. Finally, when the sergeant finished monologuing, Blitz spoke up.

"Twilight Sparkle, you say? I had a feeling she was the reason we were here. I'm not saying I knew anything sir. After Ponyville, I heard stuff from the forward command about seeing a purple unicorn running off into the Everfree, so I assume that's why were here......." Blitz trailed off as he heard a shuffling of hooves next to him, before witnessing the mare which was in his truck speed off into the distance, crying her eyes out. "Hey, wait!" Blitz called out to her, but sadly to no avail. The mare was gone, her nerves giving way to the stress of war. "Sweet Luna....." Blitz whispered to himself. He couldn't believe what had just happened. Looking into the distance, the mare was now totally out of sight, lost in the labyrinth of vehicles, troops and mechanics that moved throughout the camp. Sighing deeply, Blitz turned his head to look at the sergeant once more. "As I was saying sir, I knew nothing about this. As far as I'm concerned, I've been brought here to kill some Solar plot-kissing bastards first and ask questions later, which is exactly what I intend to do". With that, Blitz reset himself, and fell back into line, before removing his packet of cigars from one of his pockets, along with a lighter taken from a fallen Allied soldier in Ponyville. Blitz stuck a cigar in his mouth, lighting it before putting the packet and lighter back in his pocket, awaiting the next orders.

(I am sorry friend, but I fear I cannot wait any longer @Jump Cut)

Sven followed sergeant Clear Waters, listening as hard as he could. He liked to know everything he could, and created a map of the battlefield with key points in his mind. He had been like that ever since the event that put him in his current squad in the first place. Sent into battle too fast, not enough planning, plus all support wasn't ready, as they needed more time.

"Twenty minutes... Jesus, they don't give us time to settle in huh?" Sven said under his breath. "They're giving us less and less time each deployment. This is gonna be a mess..."

Sven hauled himself and his heavy equipment next to the sergeant and placed his rifle pointing down between his feet. He leaned over to Clear's ear and spoke quietly.

"All due respect, sir, but us Fallschirmjäger are only as good as you say when command takes time and consideration to plan our assaults. Had they planned my previous drop better my old squad would still be alive and kicking."

Sven took out his cigarette case and matches, taking one out of the case. Before he could light it he realised it was very short, and apon inspection of the case he saw a bullet lodged within it, ruining all of his cigarette rations. He threw the case with all the cigarettes to the side of the vehicle and looked rather irritated.

"Scheiße! Proof of the hell I've been in..."

He put the quarter cigarette that he held onto in his mouth and lit it, taking a few puffs before it was worthless. He took it out of his mouth and pressed it against the side of the vehicle, melting a small circle of paint right down to the metal. He flicked it onto the floor, a small trail of smoke coming from the remains.

Listening to the sergeant say something about dropping the formalities, Jump mumbles to himself " I never been about formalities anyway". Then he rolls the cigarette to the other side of his mouth and takes a large puff. He looks over to see a mare running off and he thinks to himself" whats her problem? must be the war. ahhh she'll be fine."then Jump turns his attention back and starts following the Sergeant and listening to the situation that lay ahead of the group. He readjusts the Radio on his back by shaking body to slide it up into a more comfortable position. Jump nods to everything the leader says about their objectives.

Jump, climbs into the half track behind the rest of the group. adjusting his rifle to be in the most comfortable spot. looking ahead, he noticed the trouble that was plighting one of his group members. *Jump nudges Sven and offers one of his cigarettes* "you never know what might happen out there."

As the sergeant boarded the halftrack, Blitz took a moment to inspect it. The vehicle appeared so vulgar and unfeeling in its grey coat and thick steel, striding off into battle towards the clutches of whatever fate awaited it, yet it was sturdy and it was quite intent on getting him and his squad where they needed to go. Pondering his thoughts, Blitz turned to the sergeant once more. "I hope this thing lasts long enough sir. Long enough that I can blast my way out of it, right up to the castle". With that, Blitz boarded the vehicle, propping his MG42 on its butt, between his hooves. As his cigar burned from his mouth, Blitz steeled himself, preparing to venture once more into Tartarus.

Sven pulled back the bolt system on his rifle, and an unfired bullet popped out of the side. He caught this bullet, spinning in a few times before placing it back in the side and closing the mechanism.

"I can pretty much guarantee that at least one of us isn't coming back from this..." he said, taking the cigarette offered by his fellow soldier and lighting it with one of his storm matches.

Sven finished his cigarette as they began to move, putting it out and throwing it to the ground. He got himself in a somewhat redied stance and prepped his rifle.

"Just like the Fallschirmjäger... Drop in ready for combat, or die getting ready during..."

"It's no MG42 sir, but I could never pass up the chance to mow the lawn, if you get my meaning". With a wink to the sergeant, Blitz mounted the machine gun, holding on and bracing his stance as the halftrack jerked backwards in response to the vehicle's movement. As the SdKfz linked up with the armored column, Blitz took a look around. His eyes met with the heads of the many halftrack gunners in his column, along with a few tank commanders who were looking out from their Panzer IIs. At the forefront of the column, Blitz spotted the column leader looking out from his Panzer. He sported a peaked cap with the crest of the Lunar Front sewn on it. Having identified he column, Blitz continued to survey the area, this time for any enemies. His experience from the Battle of Ponyville taught him well enough that the Allied infantry were quite capable of using anything to their advantage, especially foliage. So far, nothing could be seen, but that was exactly what Blitz anticipated. When combined with the olive drab uniform of the Allied forces, the brushland of the Everfree becomes very treacherous. If there was one thing certain, Blitz knew a lot of lives would be lost tonight.

After some waiting, the column was closing in on the ruins. Blitz could make out the cracked, disembodied ruins of the walls of the eastern parapets, which overlooked the stretch of woodland between the castle and the encampment. Expecting hell to break loose at any minute, Blitz steeled himself to engage the enemy. "Ruins in sight! Prepare for contact!" Shouted the corporal, before cocking his MG34. With his mind racing, his heart pumping and his nerves steely, Blitz prepared himself to mow the lawn, the lawn being an onslaught of Allied soldiers. Among the many questions racing through his mind, one resonated the loudest: how long would he last?

as Jump felt the half track lurch forward he rubbed the side of rifle, feeling the wooden body with his hoof. As the truck moved on its way to the inevitable, jumps eyes slowly ran across the etchings in the firearms body. reading over and over "no looking back". it eased his mind before what was clearly going to be shit hitting the fan events. loud shouting from the gunner caught jumps attention. he rolled the cigarette in his mouth.

@,

Sven was scared. He didn't want to show it, but it was too great to hold back. This was the biggest and most important fight he had been in. His gun was rattling as he shook in fear. He turned to the machine gunner and spoke, at least he tried anyway. He stuttered "G-good l-l-luck..."

The fight wasn't the first bit. It's like stage fright. The adrenaline building up to it is the worst, but once you are there it isn't so bad. This, of course, was still very bad in his eyes. He thought about his own words. 'The sooner you accept the fact that you are already dead, the sooner you can be the soldier Luna needs you to be'. He wasn't prepared to let his family go hungry and poor, and would be damned before he would let capitalism continue it's rule.

Blitz was getting antsy. From behind his perch at the controls of the MG34, he could see no enemies, despite the fact the ruins drew closer and closer. Would things really be alright, as he told his comrade in the truck? It seemed doubtful as the column closed in. Still, Blitz had to remain calm. He knew taking his eyes off the prize would get him killed, and if he were killed, who'd be the one to fire his precious MG42? The MG42 he loved, adored and named "Franz"? But more importantly, who'd be there to defend the truck that carried his comrades? Despite the obvious tension in his body, Blitz steeled himself. If hell hadn't already broke loose in the Everfree, it was certainly about to. Twilight Sparkle had to be rescued from the clutches of the Allies, and Blitz would be damned if he let those plot-kissing pigs have her. He was doing this for Princess Luna, his true princess and his rightful ruler, and if he had to, he would die for her. From behind him, he heard the Fallschirmjager, visibly terrified, stutter out a "good luck", as if he needed it. Blitz was grateful, but from experience, no pony in the field has ever had much luck, and if Blitz remembered correctly, the Fallschirmjager told him that if he accepted that he was already dead, then he would become the soldier Luna required. With a sadistic chuckle, Blitz gave the terrified paratrooper a hard look. "Thanks, but war holds little mercy for the strong, and even less for the weak. Yet somehow, the strong always come out on top, cheating death to the very end. That's why I need you to be strong right now. You know full well Princess Luna frowns on cowards in her army. Besides, as you said yourself "We are already dead"". With that, Blitz returned his gaze to the outside of the halftrack, scanning for any enemies. From afar, he could hear gunfire and shouting, but would it prove coincidental, or ominous?
