Ever since i have became a brony, i have noticed a lot of hate towards me and other bronys and i want to know why people hate bronys? We don't do anything bad, we are just a fandom supporting a amazing show :D Let me know what you think :)

Because those people tend to run into more annoying members of our fandom who just talk about ponies, and just try to shove it down your throat.

Or they're homophobe.

Or they are under the cliche that guys absolutely need to watch manly things (wrestling, football, etc.)

Most probably just assume when they here MLP they probably think of the original, not the new one and they'd never make an effort to see the difference for themselves. Also pretty sure some people see it as a thing to hate someting thats popular for no good reason. In the UK its not as well known so i could probably wear a brony shirt and no-one would really give a *yay*.

Because most people think it is odd that grown men or even younger boys are watching a show that is aimed for little girls. People are very ignorant. If you break one "rule" of society you get attacked by people who have an opposite view of you.

People hate bronies because they're uneducated, or trying desperately to protect their "masculinity". Or they haven't seen the show. Like spongebob said, "Squidward, the only people who don't like it have never tried one!"

People don't like something that they do not understand or something that breaks an already existing stereotype(say all women wear dresses or all men are not allowed to like something that's more "girly") it makes people uncomfortable and they don't like that.  Instead of taking the time to understand something, they lash out instead.  It would be better for people to simply leave well enough alone and treat people with some courtesy instead of being so mean.

It was haters that actually got me watching the show.

there i was on the interwebs, with visons of these people foaming at the mouth with the rage they were putting into their comments.

"It can't be that bad, surely?"

*Watches Read it and Weep*

"I love this show... I love MLP! ...I'm a brony.... !

I think people instantly think "My Little Pony" - for 5 year old girls, "why are you watching that?", then they stay biased to that, which is sad, cause then they'll probably never watch the show due to one initial individual thought.

@Diamond Treasure, and @gpatterson338, it turns out that we had several threads floating around from various months for discussing why people dislike bronies and the brony fandom, and why some go out of their way to criticize or attack its members. Because all of your threads dealt with that subject, they have been merged together. Just letting you know :)

The easy answer is that the internet is filled with xenophobic and homophobic young boys who thinks trolling makes them cool and they think ponies are only something for little girls to enjoy, which confuses their little brains and sparks insecurities which makes them want to beat someone else down to make themselves feel "manly". There is also the media painting a unfair picture of the fandom, labeling everyone as "neck beard pedophiles who abuses the well-fare system to buy toys" for the sake of easy views through shock value because negativity sells easier than positivity.

Though to say the fandom is perfect would be a terrible lie as well. While the majority are normal and/or perfectly fine people, we have indeed a very loud minority that want to "convert people", makes pornography of underage characters and acts like absolutely terrible human beings while still claiming they will "love and tolerate everyone", which is probably what the media taps into to get their marketable stereotypes.

For the time being, the only thing to do is to deal with it, because unless we get a big revolution in how gender roles are perceived universally and all the loud mouthed monsters suddenly goes silent, the media and trolls are going to abuse the voices of few to hurt many for their own benefit/profit.

I wish I could explain why some people hate bronies, I wish I could explain how ignorance and intolerance expanded to epic proportions, as we seem to find more things to loathe than like any more besides popularity and status. Society appear to be grossly mean to any differences, any individuality as we seem to openly embrace an dystopian universe, were everyone and everything is the same, and anyone who defies the social norm is punished. As a military veteran, I have seen the simple minded and belligerent get more attention by the media than they deserve to, moreover have made such negative attitudes appear normal, and anything sympathetic appear weak, so when I was in uniform people wanted me to punish the enemies of the state, even if I was a medic. That's why I became a brony, and why many servicemen and veterans joined the herd, as for me I tired of the anger, and here was a show that had love and tolerance, with life lessons and characters we can identify with, for all the haters that exist at least MLP has many more loving fans, and that will be more powerful than the negative sentiment expressed about us. Fret not, the bronies and pegasisters will prevail, if more people are converted it will be because they saw My Little Pony, out of curiosity more than pushy persuasion, then we shall welcome them with open embrace, we must be positive and not loose face, I am a veteran and a brony, I am so glad to be here.

It just depends on the "hater". For instance, someone could have had a bad experience with the fandom at some point and started hating on the fandom as a whole because of it. Some just want to find something to hate and bronies make "easy targets". They could think it's weird for an older demographic to enjoy something for younger ages...even if they're the same person who plays Pokemon...

Ponies are practically EVERYWHERE on the internet, and that may cause some people to hate the fandom, since they can't get away from it. Ponies can be found on "haters" site and truth be told, it's fucking annoying. Oh, and there's always the reason that the fandom overreacts way too often. So, a person hates the fandom for any of these reasons usually:

  • Bad experience (I know I have had some..)
  • People need something to hate
  • It's weird
  • Ponies are everywhere on the internet and it can get pretty annoying after a while
  • Overreacting fandom
  • It's feminine

There we go, those are the main reasons I encountered. Yes, it sucks but the world isn't going to be kind and if you think bronies are going to be an exception, you're wrong on that.

Personally i think its because people want to troll and pretty much everything is being trolled no matter what it is, specific on bronies its most likely those people who havent seen the show and doesnt want to give it a try, its really sad and heartbreaking that some people think this way and only care about having ''swag'' and being ''cool'' and hip with the ladies ( because the way you're measured as a man is about how many people you've slept with, LOL YE RIGHT) which is sad aswell.

Maybe they're trying to help us? ( personal theory of mine) they think it's so wrong to watch mlp and no one in the right mind can possibly think this show is good, because they think the ultimate goal in life is to be (in my opinion) a douchebag not everyone thinks that having sex is the most respected thing in life but i know there are some. The way they're going to save us is by telling us we're fags and gay and they think this will change our mind because as quick as someone says something you do is gay, you stop doing it right?(not really, atleast not me)

Maybe people are tolerant where i live because no one that ive told that im a brony has not started to hate me.

Also consider that its the internet and 95% of the people who hate on the internet would not dare to do it in real life. Yesterday while i was playing a game ( my name on it is Rainbowdash because that name makes me 20% cooler) a guy i ended up in the same group typed in chat ''Do you like ponies?''  i said yes to this because its not really that offending in any way, but 10 seconds after he wrote ''do you want to put your penis in them'' and i mean i dont get mad at all because its the internet and i really dont take people on the internet seriously except people with valid opinions and people on this forum for example because here people tolerate and love. I didnt report this asshole i simply ignored him for the next 10 minutes because chances that i end up in the same group with him again is very small, i could have reported him but i know that since its the internet, people instantly becomes 500% tougher and they're not worth my time. deffending yourself and replying trying to explain why the show is so brilliant is pretty pointless since they will still just write ''lolgay''

Bottom line is that whatever people say on the internet there are rarely rarely consequences for what they do.

I'm just gonna say this now: Not all brony haters hate bronies out of ignorance, though most do. I've ran into several anti-bronies who have simply have poor experiences with the lower points of the fandom; the bronies who are less-accepting of love and tolerance and actually do shove their opinions down others' throats.

And then there are those who listen to FOX News.

But yeah, ignorance forced gender boundaries do still play a huge role in the unfair treatment of bronies and it sickens me. It's highly unfair and irrational, downright discrimination.

So yeah, my words on the matter.

  • 3 weeks later...

My current theory: (does not apply to all haters of course)

Beause bronies are not afraid of trying "banned" things, which is sign of power. Haters are bound by social norms, but still don't want to feel weak, so they mark being a brony as a weakness and they are trying to convince others to do the same thing. So to sum it up, they want to prevent others to become bronies, because they don't want to feel so weak.

Because it confuses them, and if they don't understand it, it makes them angry and they need something to direct their anger at so why not the thing that's confusing them. These are the same people who believe every story in the bible was written by god and actually happened. I don't consider myself a psychologist, and I could be wrong, but that's what I think.

There are also the haters which I haven't seen a lot of lately, who have a different story. This one I know for certain. They get something out of making others feel bad, and people who are different from them make a perfect target. Bronies defy social standards all together let alone being different, so of course bullies will come after us.

I always imagine a few reasons for not liking bronies:

1. You don't understand them, and don't like that

2. You don't like people who are different from you or don't adjust for you (had a friend do this to me when he found about me)

3. Thinks of furries as the same as bronies (which has been a problem with fandoms like this for as long as it has existed)

4. Trolls

Just some of my thoughts. There are plenty of reasons for someone to not like something, these are just examples.

Everyone seems to hate bronies. I, for one, see no reason why bronies shouldn't be treated like everyone else. But other people, it seems, hate them with a passion.

Why? When faced with this question, haters are forced to come up with a rational argument as to why bronies are an embarrassment to society. The most common answer is "the show is gay."

A while ago, my friend told me he is a brony. This person without doubt is one of the best people I've ever met. He's clever, funny and interesting to talk to, and really, if you met him you would have no idea he was a brony until he told you.

Some people, if they knew, would probably launch straight into the usual interrogation:

"Are you gay?"

"How do you watch that?"

"That show is for three year old girls."

I didn't. As far as I know, he isn't autistic, or stupid, or weird, all I view him as is an extremely kind and intelligent person who likes watching a specific TV show.

So what if My Little Pony is a crazy kid-friendly cartoon featuring colourful talking ponies with personalities on par with teenage girls? If people like watching it, then so be it. It carries a very important message: Learning about friendship.

People who think they know what bronies are really like will often say that they talk nonstop about ponies, will try to convert you all the time, and shove pony related stuff down your throat all day. They don't. A lot of bronies don't tell many people for fear of being discriminated or teased. I think all bronies should be able to tell people and be proud of it without being viewed differently.

WE ARE DIFFERENT, BUT WE ARE NOT ALONE.

Love Yin Yang

I know right. if people found out I'm a brony oh that end of that story. but some of my friends heard the term "Brony" and I ask tem do you watch the show and they say no. One day one of brony friends ask me why people hate bronies? people say pink is a manly color, so why cant ponies be manly? you answer that

The answer is really simple. The society right now is built upon considering those who are 'different' from us potentially dangerous, or just as something to dislike or make fun of. Think about it. Who gets peaked on? Those who are different from others. Why ate 'tabu' things/themes 'tabu'? Because society considers them different to what everyone should be talking about.

I myself don't care about haters. I used to get bullied a lot, like A WHOLE LOT. That was until the day (or rather year) that I understood that our time is way too limited for us to be someone we don't like to be (that was kindof a Steve Jobs quote, by the way)

I've started ordering MLP clothes already, and I'm gonna wear them to highschool. I just don't give a flying fuck about what others think about me.

Have a nice day ^^

Our fellow human does not "hate" us. but I believe that he simply does not understand us, for us humans have a history of the fear of the unknown. But don't misunderstand me they do not fear us, or the show, what they fear is the difference between us and them.  And they simply are trying to get us to leave the fandom, with whatever force necessary and until that day that our fandom is no longer unknown, or until the fandom dies COMPLETELY then the show will stop being hated, but is that truly worth it?

People only hate us because of the nature of the show. If we were a fandom of something like Duck Dynasty, they wouldn't do anything. "Oh, a couple of guys watching Duck Dynasty, nothing wrong with that." But as soon as we start enjoying a show not intended for our gender and age: "OMG bronies are SOOO GAY, like what the heck, ponies are for little girls, faggot." My point is, people these days are not very accepting of the truth.
