Testing Forum

SCS

Recommended Posts

Some of you may have noticed the sudden appearance of the Testing Forum at the bottom of the MLP Forums category. I have seen several questions about this over a relatively short period of time, so I want to clear up any confusion.

This forum section is not new. It was created some time ago, but apparently there were issues with its permissions that resulted in only staff having access to it at all. I fixed that earlier this morning.

The purpose of the Testing Forum is to serve as an additional location for people to be able to test various things before they post them elsewhere on the site. There is indeed a preview button available for posts, but some people may wish to see what the final product will look like in the form of a post before actually posting it publicly.

Please bear in mind that only you, moderators and administrators will be able to view topics you post in this forum section. This allows you to test whatever you wish to test in a private environment.

Feel free to post any additional questions you have about it here.

You sure do work quick, I am starting to see more and more why you were promoted to admin. Like I said in my status update if this is something that encourages people to think throughs through a bit more and be more mindful when they post topics I am all for it. I myself might make some use of it for some of my more controversial topic ideas.

It's good to test certain things like this to make sure that nothing goes amiss, at least in a private environment, there won't be a lot of problems with it.

I don't like the idea of moderators and administrators being able to access our posts in this forum...

Anyway thanks for clearing that up, but I'd suggest to put it at the bottom of the forums (below the Poniverse section) since it doesn't really belong to the MLP forums section.

Well, I don't really see the point in this forum...No, not at all.

But, why not ?

EDIT : Why are posts here brohoofed automatically ?

Can we get warning points for anything that we post there? In other words, what rules are removed? (I'm guessing at least off-topic is okay there)

Off-topic rules don't apply there at all, since there is no topic for a testing forum. Post count is not incremented there, anyway. All other rules apply, however. For example, if you posted porn there, you would get a warning.

We only view it because we have to. While standard rule-breaking material there is not allowed, we also want to make sure no one tries to post anything illegal there, as unlikely as it would be.

The Poniverse category is for projects outside of MLP Forums. As the Testing Forum regards testing posts and other material for MLP Forums, I feel it fits best in its current category.

  • Tolerate and love everypony. While we don't quite mean this in the literal sense, we do ask that you remain respectful of other people's opinions and realize that they are, at the end of the day, just opinions rather than grounds for declaring thermonuclear war. Don't flame, don't troll, and you'll be fine. We realize this can be difficult when somebody else attacks you first, but please report them instead. Responding in kind will only get you in trouble along with them and possibly make the whole situation worse for everyone else present when it happens. People want to reply to topics casually, not walk on eggshells around two other bickering members. Seethis and this.
  • Keep the foul language down. Swearing is not forbidden on MLP Forums, but we kindly ask that you keep it to a minimum. Not only is swearing out of place in the My Little Pony universe, but some fans who visit this site may be much closer to the target age than you and will not enjoy seeing the F-Bomb drop on their screen. Swearing is strictly prohibited in topic titles and tags, and racial or other derogatory terms against other members, groups, or other entities with the intention of slandering are more or less prohibited. See this FAQ entry for more details if necessary.
  • Write in proper, legible English. You are on an English-speaking forum run by English-speaking staff. We cannot moderate content that we cannot read, and "but you can always use Google Translate!" is not an excuse. In addition, while we do not require perfect grammar, you should at least try to punctuate, capitalize, space, and spell properly.
  • Make quality posts. Posts - and threads - that lack contributing content are not allowed and may be deleted without notice. Repeatedly creating posts and/or threads that are off-topic, spammy, or otherwise pointless will result in your posting capabilities becoming restricted. There is a minor character minimum in most of the site's sections that aids moderators in trying to uphold content quality - do not attempt to bypass it.

How about those rules?

Edit: Hey, Boitporte is right :3

The vulgarity rule would apply. The abusive behavior rule applies globally for any interaction, but you can't really interact with people in that forum section anyway.

Those last two rules do not apply to the Testing Forum at all.

(I was thinking about a new category just for it)

But ok ;)

Huh, haven't heard about this section until today, but the concept is pretty darn ingenious.  Allows users to forego asking in the Site Questions and Tech Support area whether or not they can put up a post, and in a private environment no less.  Very nice guys, very nice indeed.  :comeatus:

Wow, interesting. I had no idea that it was visually limited by permissions, that explains why I never seen it before I was staff.

  • 2 weeks later...

Regarding @Makusu2's questions about whether or not the Global Rules apply in the Testing Forum, I have added an announcement about it to the Testing Forum section for more convenient reference.

Mmm... I've noticed this sub forum not too long ago but still haven't checked it out.

I'd imagine it to be similar to the "preview post" function before submitting.

I take it that this is like a sandbox, so we can access this at anytime for reference? Is it one time use, or is it deleted over a certain period of time?

Hehehe... I'm in for some fun times with this new section.

You can make as many posts and topics there as you need to. They'd only be hidden or deleted if they broke a global rule, aside from one that didn't apply to the Testing Forum. See this announcement for more information.
