Lucky. I would've gone to my nearest show, but it's been sold out for weeks.

Van canto or Sabaton?

Why not both?

Aw! Well last year I was sad because Sabaton was playing at the bomb factory and I couldn't go T_T

Maybe you'll catch them next time!

A buddy of mine just tipped me off to this little post-metal gem, Sumac. If the singer sounds familiar, that's because he's the guy from ISIS. Good to see he's still kickin out awesome rock! He's gone back to his roots here, with songs that would sound at home on Mosquito Control or Red Sea.

This is a local band (they were one of the openers when I went to see Alestorm). This song is actually well written, lyrically.

FIGHT!

Once while we were journeying upon our epic quest,
Gaining levels, finding treasures, and slaying foes grotesque,
We came upon an encounter with a mammoth troll
Who so out-leveled our party that his HP was untold.
Our party drew our weapons forth, we six of courage blessed:
A fierce warrior, a cunning wizard, an alluring priestess,
A vigorous monk, a thunderous rogue, a ravenous barbarian,
All ready now to face this foe until this fight was won.

Though our foe stands strong,
We attack head on.
Though many would flee,
Our party will seize this victory.
Now our weapons slash
And our magic is cast.
And should we win, our band's
Legend shall be sung throughout the land.

Our Rogue rained arrows upon the beast to wound and weaken it
And our Barbarian ran forth with axe ablaze and scored a critical hit.
Enraged, the troll grabbed up the Warrior, who in its fingers bound,
Was squeezed to death with crushing force and slammed upon the ground.

Our priestess, an adept healer,
Entered the scene so grim,
And casted spells of white magic
To return life to him.
The lifeless corpse began to move
With hit points now restored,
And slowly raised up to his feet
With hands reclaiming sword
To fight once more!

Though our foe stands strong,
We attack head on.
Though many would flee,
Our party will seize this victory.
Our blades fell swift,
And our warrior with
Power overflowed
Released a series of crippling blows.

To further wound the beast
The wizard thus unleashed
A deadly arcane spire
Of lightning, ice and fire.

But, just as victory seemed near,
The beast roared a fearsome moan
And unleashed his mighty skill
That turned his flesh to stone!
Our weapons now proved ineffective,
For none could pierce his skin,
And our magic spells were all but deflected
As our mana points ran thin.
Now on the offensive our foe threw forth
Giant boulders with great thrusts,
And as they decimated our party's line
We all lay stunned and crushed.
The damage incurred to our party was heavy
And the end seemed ever near.
Then as he prepared his ultimate attack
We all stood froze with fear...

LOLOL!
TROLL SMASH!
FML!
IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE!

Though our party's badly wounded,
Let us rise and be brave.
We must redeem our honor men!
...Plus we forgot to save.

Swords up lads!
Think of the experience points!
Imagine the loot!
His health's in the red!
Rally together for one last push!

Invigorated, we rallied forth
And all our forces swiftly swelled.
Sword edges ripped with great precision
And hammers fell like ringing bells.
Our monk struck down with earthly blows
Setting tremors in the ground.
With stone shield penetrated,
The beast's roar now did resound.

In a final act of desperation
The troll charged forth with might,
And the whole earth shook beneath his claw.
He'd not fall without a fight.
But outmatched was he, this meager foe,
For his life he would rescind
To we six of courage, honor bound
To bring him to his end.

Though our foe stands strong,
We attack head on.
Though many would flee,
Our party will seize this victory.
And to end this beast
Our party unleashed
A great combo
And dealt the fiend its final blow.

Now we have seized this victory!

Level up!

Oh shit.  I haven't heard of this yet.  I try to keep up with what those dues are doing, post-ISIS.  Good stuff.

Some easy tunes to enjoy on a lazy Sunday:

And also Mastodon.

Normally I don't listen to death metal or deathcore. But take away the vocals (if you can call them that), and you actually have some pretty kick ass pieces of work.

Rediscovering my love of this album.

Want a bit of trivia (that I discovered on my own and have yet to find anyone else who has knowledge of this)?

*EDIT* I actually found someone else who made mention of this, actually. On some site I've never heard of. Glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed.

Look at the album art. See those Roman numerals below "The Years Of Decay"? MCMLXXXIX. It stands for 1989, the year the album was released. :D

Oh man, that concert. The room was crowded, hot as fuck, and smelled like body odor and alcohol. Sabaton's audience was by far the craziest of the 3, that whole night was just amazing. Watching Nightwish's live shows is one thing but actually getting to experience one, just glorious.

Also, I took this one picture in particular at the perfect time

Well, yeah. Sabaton steals the show wherever they go. That's how it was when I saw them with ReVamp and Iced Earth.

Anyway, who likes Anathema? Anyone? Their discography is so diverse, it's ridiculous.

Going to see Five Finger Death Punch tomorrow. Good thing I bought my tickets back in March  because now it's sold out.  I think this might be the first time I'm attending a sold out show at my local venue.

I know Death punch will bring it. Saw them back on the Trespass America festival, the only real american metal festival this country has seen in years, and they delivered. But who I'm really looking forward to are the openers, my fellow Alaskans in 36 Crazyfists and much talked about main support Avatar. Should be fun. But if it wasn't, why would I be going?

@@Malafax,

I used to love that band, but once they kicked Vortex and the keyboard player out, (I forgot his name) I kind of stopped listening to them. Partly out of a lack or respect for Shagrath, for being a dick. That said, I still do love the band, I saw them live a couple years back and caught their pick. First song I ever heard by them was Hybrid Stigmata.

My ugly mug, fresh out of the pit. Still all hyped and full of energy though. lol

On that note, I have another band for you. After Vortex left, he went back to his original band, Borknagar. I highly recommend them. Don't expect the usual Satanic stuff though, this band is a lot more pagan, and more nature taking over the ruins of mankind in theme.

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH! New High on Fire single! YAY!!!

I saw High On Fire back in 2013 on the Metal Alliance Tour. Wasn't all that impressed by them, and the crowd didn't seem to be either.

Anyway, have some Leprous
