The championship season kicked off yesterday with its first match and today it is our turn! The summer break has gone so quickly..

Today Brighton face Sheffield Wednesday at home. Very excited to see what we are made of this season! Who does your team have on the first day? :)

Well,I would state my opinion on this, but you wouldn't like it. I'm a rugbyt fan, and all Fottball has brought me up here is sectsrianist marches, riots and drunken fights.

But enjoy your games. xD

Most of the sports I tend to root for involve wall jumping, ridiculously huge combatants fighting to the death, the need to frag each other, and pegging each other from clear across the map.

So yes, for all of those reasons, I am very much excited about this football season.

Maybe you have the wrong sport. Football is pretty much a non contact sport, and the most in-sport violence is Swarez biting someone on the arm, or someone getting headbutted. xD

Just my opinion.

I apologize if I was unclear; I had meant to imply that my favorite sport is Unreal Tournament on the PC, which has a tendency to involve wall jumping, ridiculously huge combatants fighting to the death, the need to frag each other, and pegging each other from clear across the map. :P

My relationship to most modern sports is as follows.

If you look at tackles, they're not allowed to kick, grab, dive, dump, or ram the player. Their version of a tackle is stealing the ball from their legs. If you look up the definition of Football, you'll see that it's a non contact sport.

Apologies, I mean full contact. If you touch the ball, it's contact, in the same way netball is contact.

I DIDN'T SEE THIS THREAD!!!

Thank goodness there's a place on the forums for us football fans... All 5 of us? So many American Football threads, I felt outnumbered.

My team Norwich are back down in the Championship... And our first game against Wolves went horrifically. First we have a man sent off then we lose 1-0. I swear, if we lose to Ipswich next week, I don't know what will happen.  >_>

Good luck FlutterBro and Brighton, we'll be your rivals for promotion this year ^_^

I don't follow football that much but I like to see Brighton do well :) Do you go to the AMEX at all?

I'm a Liverpool fan, we've got Southampton at Anfield for our first game, which is this Sunday. Honestly, I'm not overly optimistic about our chances this year. We had a lot of things go right for us last year, as we were able to legitimately challenge for the title despite not having anywhere near the strongest squad in the league. Now that we sold Suarez and haven't brought in a direct replacement, it's possible that we could struggle in the league. Still, we looked good in the preseason and have a lot of great players, and a great manager. I'm also thrilled we're finally back in the Champions League.

I think I'm the only person on here who likes both soccer and American sports and doesn't bash one of them. Though I'm assuming someone will get pissy about me calling it soccer. :P

I like both also (I follow the NHL mostly, Canadian I know but most of the teams are American ), I have a tendency to call it soccer too :P

My family are Man Utd fans so I grew up rooting for them, but I chose Atletico Madrid myself so I'm more partial to them if any team :)

Well, football technically is in swing right now if you count Major League Soccer. :)

My team, Sporting Kansas City, is doing well this season and still leads the eastern conference.

Of course, in regards to Europe, my team Bayern Munich suffered a bad loss against Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup AND lost a key player to a serious injury for SIX months!

Ah, I see. Last season was very special for them. :)

It's a shame they lost a number of key players, but Mandzukic, Griezmann and Oblak are all fantastic signings.

Premiership follower and Tottenham Hotspur fan here. Looking forward to the first match against West Ham this Saturday, especially as it will be one of the rare times this season I'll actually get to see a game of theirs broadcast here in Canada.

Not like I've been without football during the summer, though. Go Whitecaps!

Eeyup. Just a shame about the CL final, losing it that way was brutal

Yer its per the norm, the players make their name there for 1 or 2 seasons and then they're sold :(

Regarding Liverpool, I thought they were going to seal the deal last year, it was a strange PL season from what I saw.

I thought so as well. We went on an incredible run for about 12 games. The thing is, not only did we contend, but we honestly should have won it, and probably would have if Gerrard hadn't slipped. Even though it didn't matter in the end, blowing a three goal lead against Crystal Palace the next week was heartbreaking.

We'll need all the luck we can get I fear.. Not the best of starts for us either with a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.. And selling our best players.. So far not even replacing them.. As it stands I think were in for mid table this season I'm afraid. We'll see though!

I'm a season ticket holder so I go to every game. I also go to a few of the away games too! ^^,

Yeah, I'm not too sure about Norwich's promotion chances. A rookie manager in charge and a team who can't shoot for toffee isn't the best combination right now  Brighton still look pretty good though, I've got a season ticket at Norwich so I'll see them play Brighton. Should be a good match!

I plan on making Norwich one of my away trips this year so I hope it is a good game! ^^

That's cool :) I've been a few times and I enjoyed the atmosphere, plus its infinitely preferable to Withdean

Yer that was unfortunate for you guys. I must admit I'm pleased to see Suarez go, he's talented but an awful character to have associated with such an historic club. Hopefully someone steps up in his place this year.

Awesome! Norwich is a great city, you'll get to see the mighty Carrow Road! We don't need all this Champion's League and Premier League rubbish, the Championship is where all the excitements at haha

I thought this thread was going to be about football, but instead, you're talking about American handegg.

WHAT AM I DOING HERE?! D:

Yupp, gotta love all this 'Murican football chat... Loving the sarcasm mate

Agreed! Too many seasons I got soaked in the south stand when it rained, so you can imagine my relief and excitement when we finally moved into the AMEX.. It still gives me goosebumps when I go to this day!

XD

It was shocking to watch a match where my school were doing sports days. Its a major upgrade thats for sure, although I used to live around the corner from Withdean, so I always knew the score without actually attending

I don't live overly far from Brighton to be honest, although I wouldn't mind being a bit closer, I'm around a 20 min drive from the stadium.. It actually takes about the same time now as it was going to Withdean. ^^,

So do you still live in the Brighton area?
