Rampart wasn't sure himself if he had meant what he said but he did has all his money coming to Canterlot in a couple days so it wasn't a ridiculous notion to just stay in Canterlot. He started following her to the park while pondering where all the stuff he had said had even come from.

"Do you think you would have decided to stay here in Canterlot if you hadn't met me?"

 

Silver asked as they walked down the street.

 

"I'm just curious, because... well, Canterlot is a big city with lots of ponies and royal guard. It would be easier if you just settled in a small town like Ponyville or Appleoosa."

"Definitely not. You're pretty much the only reason I'm staying. I just don't think anypony else who doesn't hate me on site anywhere....besides a Crystal Pony has no hope of blending in in Appleoosa since for all I know, they don't know Crystal Ponies exist", he answered truthfully.

Wow, he waited all day for me, and now, he's staying in Canterlot because of me. But I guess that shouldn't be too surprising since I am basically the only friend he's ever had.

 

She thought to herself. They finally made it to the park.

 

"Well, here we are."

 

She said.

Rampart was wondering what he was gonna for the next couple days completely broke until his money gets there to the fake address he made up so they'd end up right where he wanted them when Silver said they were at the park. "Nice park, better than the one in Detrot for sure", he said smiling faintly.

Wow, I think he smiled... I think that's a first.

 

She thought.

 

"Well, let's see... Over there is the pond, there's a flower garden over that way, right there is a small playground, and there's a great climbing tree near the center of the park."

 

She said, pointing to each of the locations.

Rampart looked around the park trying to figure what shed like to do. "Um...do you want to go to the pond or garden", he asked and those were the things he wanted to do and he also he also figured that she would prefer them. "Of course, if you prefer the playground or tree climbing, that's fine too".

"Uh, I don't really mind whatever we do, I was just pointing those out."

 

Silver replied. 

 

"I think that going down to the pond sounds like a good idea to me."

 

She started walking towards the pond with benches around it. Silver liked watching the beautiful koi which swam in it.

(You're actually playing her really well).

 

"Okay then, the pond it is", he said the flicker of a smile returning momentarily. "Go ahead and crack whatever jokes you want but Im actually glad you agreed with the pond. I actually prefer peaceful things like ponds and gardens over playgrounds and the like", he said quietly.

"I...wasn't really thinking... anything. I think the playground can be really noisy. And I'm not even any good with jokes anyway."

 

She poked a frog sitting on the bank, prompting it to jump into the water.

He just nodded and circled his hoof around a catfish that followed it curiously for a few moments. "Bad with jokes....join the club...I'm not any good with jokes either", he said rubbing his neck nervously. He just looked at her momentarilly and looked away hoping she hadn't seen.

Silver was busy watching a koi come up and snatch a small fly that had gotten stuck on the water's surface.

 

"You seemed like somepony who would be good with jokes... not that I have heard you actually try cracking many very recently. Come to think of it though, I really don't know that much about you besides your past. What are you good at?"

"Really...remember that lame joke I tried when I told you my name....well, actually, I wad only half joking. As for what I'm good at, there's not much really. Looking scary and being depressing...that about it to be honest", he said with a shrug. "And you don't know my past...nowhere near all of it...and be glad you don't".

"Oh, I don't think I thought about it at the time. But, what happened to what you said when we left? You have to have some real talents. What about things you like? Your talents are probably going to be something you'd enjoy."

 

She replied. She hoped he would find something he liked.

"Look...you want my talents? Get comfortable. I've had hundreds of years of solitude that I filled with pointless skill building. "I can sing, write, draw and act. I can name every star and constellation. I grew every kind of plant in my garden back when the King held the throne. There is only one thing I can't do...the one thing I wish I could. Earn the trust, friendship and loyalty of ponies but that's a foolish pipedream", he half smiling good-naturedly.

"You do have talents! And a lot of them too! That's not pointless, it's... amazing!"

 

She replied in a little bit of a louder than normal voice. She was truly amazed by all the skills that he had apparently picked up. She cleared her throat.

 

"Anyway, you at least have one friend now...right?"

He looked at her and actually smiled a full smile. "Yeah, I guess I do, don't I", he asked thinking through the ridiculousness of his plan to stay in Canterlot. He figured he was sure to get caught and arrested if he did stay but for some reason he no longer cared.

"Hey, you're smiling! So, maybe there is still some joy in you. Maybe, you could even learn to joke better if you were like this more often."

 

She said. Maybe he was serious about changing after all. She hoped that she would see him like this more in the future.

"Joy....sorry but I don't think so. Maybe hope for a future that is brighter than my past", he said pulling a quill and parchment out along with a bottle of ink. He quickly scribbled a letter and inserted it into his saddlebag which momentarily lit up with a green flame like light.

"What was that?" 

 

She asked, referring to the curious flash of green light that came from his saddlebag, after he put the letter inside. She pointed to the bag.

 

"Looked like a fire... or something, coming from inside your bag."

 

She truly had no idea what to make of it.

From the bag came a cloud of smoke that flew off in the direction of the Crystal Empire. Rampart bit his lip while trying to decide how best to answer. But before he could a small green dragon popped its head out of the bag. "Meet Flint", he said as the dragon hid back inside the bag. "I found him while traveling and kept him".

Silver gasped.

 

"Is it tame?"

 

She asked, realizing that was probably a stupid question.

 

"You had that little guy in there the whole time? And you said you didn't have any friends."

 

She said, kind of jokingly.

 

"Is it a dragon?"

 

It was so small and all she saw was a head.

"Of course I said I didn't have any friends...I'm not about to just go around telling ponies I just met that I have a baby dragon in my saddlebags, now am I", he asked quietly chuckling to himself. As he spoke he gently pulled the dragon out of the bag after taking them off and placing them gently on the ground. "Say hello...she wont bite", he coaxed the small lizard who his behind his leathery scaled wings.

"Aaw, he's kinda cute."

 

She tried to encourage the dragon to not be afraid. 

 

"I'm Silver Belle. Please don't be scared of me... uh, Flint."

 

She said, crouching down to Flint's eye level, and holding her hoof out a little, in his direction.

 

"He hasn't seen very many other ponies, has he?"

Rampart just smiled and nodded. "No,for his own good,I tend to keep him well hidden. That way, if I ever get caught by the Guard he can escape because they won't know he exists", he said quietly as to not startle the young dragon. Flint moved one wing away just enough to snuff her hoof before luvckibg it lightly and looking back at Rampart as if asking him for permission which just nodded at. The dragon nuzzled up against Silver Belle.
