Rewatching Rainbow Rocks made me feel so bad for Sunset Shimmer.

 

One reason is, they didn't even ask her to be in The Rainbooms to begin with.

While the others had become friends with her, they still had their issues regarding what she did to them before. I'd say their friendships were genuine but filled with tension.

Some have gone to celebrate Sunset's birthday on the day of the Fall Equinox--I personally think it should be sometime at the end of June given her name references the shimmering of the sun during a hot day.

Well, Equestria Daily celebrated Sunset Shimmer Day on the first day of Fall, I guess that could be Sunset's birthday, too.

It's certainly possible although I'd still be happy for Sunset to return to Equestria and reconcile with Equestria. That needs to happen first before Sunset can ascend to an alicorn.

I wonder if "My Past is Not Today" and "Daydream Shimmer" were both hints that Sunset will be getting wings in the future?

I remember "My Past is Not Today" was meant to symbolize something other than Sunset becoming an alicorn according to what I heard one of the staff say about it. Daydream Shimmer on the other hand might have been a hint towards that although the director's commentary stated that her wings were made of energy as opposed to being actual wings.
