AFAIK you can't actually fry a GPU that way and it's more of a bad sign if the game is lagging horribly and you're still pushing(because it means the card can't handle it and is straining itself to run it at all) A R9 270X should be able to handle The Sims 3 perfectly. For the record, I've been playing today, and started with a different save file. This save file is running much better and doesn't have the lag I was mentioning (there is still lag, but it is relatively minor [just some drops in the frame-rate, no freezing], so maybe that's a good sign? It's one of three things: This is an issue that will happen on every save file, it is an issue that had something to do with that specific save-file, or it is an issue that had to do with the world I was running. It was a custom world, so who knows? Crossing my fingers right now, because the game is VERY playable without that lag issue that overtook that save file. Well, check where the cables are plugged in and, if they're plugged into the video outputs on the motherboard, unplug them and plug them into the outputs on the GPU. If you plug it into the motherboard, you're actually using the Intel integrated graphics instead of the dedicated R9 270X, even if Windows still recognizes that it's plugged into a PCI slot. I'm not used to actually being able to run the game. xD If memory serves from when I used to play the first Sims a lot as a kid, those games tend to get progressively worse in the performance the more add-on content you install and the more data you have in you're save file. No idea why, maybe someone can fill us both in what horrible programming choice causes that. I'd like to thank Daring for showing me the 750Ti FTW, it's not only cheaper but seems to be a bit faster than even the 750ti by around 200Mhz(I even saw a video of someone getting pretty decent FPS on BF4 and 1080p and pretty high settings with it) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Simple, just leave it in place and try to get as good as possible photo of the connections. You have a Radeon card, yes? Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but this might help. This little tool automatically detects which OS and AMD card you're running, and allows you to install the respective latest drivers. That should fix it, methinks. If that doesn't work, you're looking at some other software problem or driver conflict... or it's possible that you have a broken card, insufficient power supply, or something else of that nature. Do keep in mind that when you buy a new card, they often come with a whole host of new issues. New graphics cards are generally rushed to the market, and the software they come with usually shows it. Give it some time. In a few more months AMD will have the time to fix all their issues in future driver releases. OFC i'd have to factor new RAM as well as a new mobo but it just looks so awesome. Still, if it is a software issue, it will likely be fixed in time. You could always try other games, or heck, even some benchmarks to see if it's the card acting funny. Then if you follow the outlined procedure, that should fix the problem, no? Or am I missing something? It needs to run it. I don't care about any other PC games. That wasn't my point. You don't need to care about another game to test another game and see if that recognizes the card. If it's just the game, then it's just the game. If other games don't work, then it's the card. Oh, I see... not really that good of a place for a PC. Restrictive airflow, will lead to higher temperatures and, therefore, graphics throttling. PC gaming is only as complicated as you make it out to be. This applies to anything, really. And you see I'm already lost there, because I haved no idea what a 'board' is to begin with, much less the ID of mine. A board is... well, just that. It's a printed circuit board. It's exactly what you have in the big hunk of metal. To find the ID, hit up the start menu or Windows logo or whatever. Type dxdiag into the search bar, then hit enter. If something pops up, hit yes, okay, or whatever to continue. There, it'll bring you to a screen. Up at the top, switch to the tab that says display. Now, you should see something that looks like this. Under chip type, your ID is the thing in parenthesis. That person also has a 270X, which means your board ID should be 0x6811. Open the file Video Cards.sgr in Notepad, this file is located in <install path>\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin where <install path> is where your copy of Sims 3 installed (depending on whether it came from Steam, Origin, disc, etc) Add the line card 0x6811 "AMD Radeon R9 200 Series" to the file and save it. To be honest, I never had to do this on my system but this is an EA game... it's always good to troubleshoot but in this case it is entirely the software's fault for being a POS and relying on a file to figure out how to run on a graphics card.
