Admiral Regulus 2,765 November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 Just curious, but what's that one piece of hardware, tool or anything that's indispensible for you all? Some people swear by a certain thermal paste, for example. Aftermarket heatsink SSD for OS and programs CoreTemp There's prolly more, but I can't think of any atm.
long gone 8,929 November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 Almost forget, here's a couple pics(I get the best I could but arranging cables is a ass) Lookin' good! May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low.
Whatevs 376 November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 I built a PC would would probably be $1000+ pre-built for $680 or so($800 including the monitor), so I'd also advise you learn how and build yourself(especially if your budget is that small) Almost forget, here's a couple pics(I get the best I could but arranging cables is a ass) Okey dokey. I appreciate the advice given by everyone. Any resources to assist me with building since I'm a layman?

LinusTechTips and Austin Evans have some pretty great build guides on YouTube. Building is relatively the same from PC-to-PC from what I've seen, only major difference is how the CPU is installed.

Be careful with his builds, his $300 build used a no-name PSU and a GPU so shitty you'd almost be better off going intel and using the APU.

FoxyCryptid 4,325 November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 Found something interesting when I was seeing how my system stacks up to a PS4, the cards seem to be a fairly equal footing but there's a huge gap in that one area for some reason:

Only compares performance numbers with no considerations for real-world performance.
FoxyCryptid 4,325 November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 If you used GPUBoss, don't. Only compares performance numbers with no considerations for real-world performance. That explains why my $150 CPU doesn't even score 10% higher than a Pentium G2020 on CPU boss despite having double the physical-cores and being roughly 600Mhz-1100Mhz faster. Side note: My 8320 idols at 3.7Ghz instead of 3.5Ghz for some reason. Little comparison from a test I just ran. My old system struggled to keep 40FPS at 800x600 with the settings cranked way down on COD4, my new one runs it at like 120FPS at 1080p with everything cranked up and maxed out.

CoD isn't very well-optimized on the PC anymore, so there's that.

Is BO2 better optimized or something? All the videos I found of it are running far better. That does match up with what I was getting though so at least I know everything is in working order. Min 8 gigs and like 50 gigs of HDD to run the last one Ahahaha Didn't it wind up only using like 3GB and working find on 6GB systems? From what I can tell, yes, because Treyarch has some people who know how to make a PC game now.

That must be why BO1 struggles to maintain even a solid 50 on this card but BO2 bottoms out at like 80(and averages over 100) according to the benchmarks I saw. Admiral Regulus 2,765 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 Are any AAA PC games really optimized anymore? Just about everything has absurd system requirements now.
long gone 8,929 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 Are any AAA PC games really optimized anymore? Just about everything has absurd system requirements now. Shadow of Mordor still manages to run well despite the ridiculous VRAM requirement. Borderlands has been PC-first since 2. Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider were also very well-optimized. There's a few examples.
Admiral Regulus 2,765 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 Tomb Raider does run nicely on my PC. I think that's the last game that I've bought that I was able to max out completely. I was going to buy Watch Dogs, but after hearing about the performance, I decided against it. After looking at the system requirements for AC Unity, I'm almost convinced it's going to be the same way. My 7950 doesn't even meet the minimum requirements for the game. Mordor has those absurd specs to but it's still playable on a 750ti on decent settings from the videos I've seen.
