Spike needs a dragon friend.

Well I mean in dragon quest he did explore his dragon side.

It just turned out that dragons are pretty much jerks. And at the end of the episode he was content with living amongst ponies.

I would hope there is more to dragons than being a immature frat group, I mean that dragon from season One wasn't like that. Thats like giving up on Griffins after dealing with Gilda.

I hope they show a more interesting side to dragons, spike has so much potential left untapped because they neglect that part of his character, and when they do use it its rarely in a positive light (in fact one of if not the only time him being a dragon was a good thing was during the games and he used his fire breath to save everypony).

I'd have to agree. Spike is constantly at the end of jokes from the Mane 6 when he tries to either join in conversations or something, the poor kid's self-esteem has got to be low. The only issue is I'm not exactly sure how they'd incorporate another dragon in the show. I think Spike hanging out with the CMC's would be a cute combination. They all appear around the same age, or at least relatively close.

Whatever the case may be, I whole heartily agree that Spike needs a real friend or two.

Maybe that came out wrong, I wasn't trying to throw all dragons in the meanie head group.

The season one dragon didn't really care at all about the feelings of anypony until Fluttershy scared the crap outta him. I mean Fluttershy scared the crap outta that chicken snake thing. She just tends to scare any animal with her secret rage powers. If it weren't for Fluttershy he wouldn't have budged at all cause he didn't have any regards for any pony up until that point.

Yes, he's a dragon. Yes it adds to his character. But does that really define him? As said in the dragon quest episode, what he is doesn't define him, it's his friends and hometown that creates who he is. The fire breath was great because he saved everypony but it was a coincidence. He's done great things just by being spike, like in the Sombra episode when he retrieved the crystal heart. He didn't need to tap into being a dragon, he just did what he thought was the right thing to do. As being said, he's been around ponies his whole life, really the only thing dragon wise he has going for him is his fire breath, love for gems and a susceptibility to greed due to a dragons nature.

Oh and that damn oath and song in that Spike at Your Service episode.

I mean I guess I never really thought too much into the dragon aspect of him. I always looked more along the lines of overall character development and wether or not the writers were doing him justice. Which they are. They indeed are doing great with his development. S4 spike was strong. Power ponies did indeed serve as a great spike episode.

I am not quite saying that it defines him as much as this: If you are going to have this character do everything like a pony and never delve into how being a dragon affects his character then why is he a dragon? Why isn't he just an assistant pony to twilight? Why give him the potential if you are not going to tap it, or worse make it seem bad whenever he does try to explore it.

Introducing a dragon friend would allow for a segway into looking into that side of him in a positive and interesting way and is fodder for a couple episode ideas at least.

This is actually a pretty cool idea. Like have another dragon like him, but older than him (the age difference can vary), and perhaps either go the reform route like some have said or just have them be friends through whatever plot they come up with. Not as a character to replace any of the ponies, but as a fellow dragon that Spike can look up too and be friends with, hang out once in a while. The more I think of that, the more of a great idea it sounds.

Another thing, have their been ANY other dragons in the show that actually have good intent like Spike? So I assume this friend of his would be another dragon raised by Ponykind, which again, that is a cool idea to introduce. :)

This gets a 'yeah, do that' from me. :3
