As to teasers from other characters than the Mane 6.  IMO, they've either got to go with minor characters or recycle.   Hmmmm.....On the one hand, they've only got Rarity left & a long time to go until Spring. How much more can they say about the Mane 6? On the other hand, would there be enough interest in the minor characters to sustain interest?

Discord seems likely, the CMCs (quest for a goal in life?), Spike & maybe Luna (reformed bad guy) or Trixie (HAS she reformed, or was that just BS?).  Perhaps Celestia, although is she going to be a big enough player to hold interest?  Sunset Shimmer, although you'd have to see the movies to even know who she is.

Most likely, I think the recaps were just what was being used to give fans a bit of a fix during November through December, after the release of Rainbow Rocks in September and it airing on the Hub in October. After Rarity's, I think we'll probably have a bit of a wait until sometime in January or maybe even February, possibly with a more specific premiere date and/or a promo specifically made for the season/premiere.

Or maybe they'll drop some other hint or whatever to cause excitement, like when Meghan took control of the Hub Twitter.

Spike doesn't have a cutie mark, which is major part of the recap's motif.

Anyway, anyone familiar with Wicked?

Larson said that a season 5 song will be based on the song Defying Gravity, which is from Wicked.

From what we heard of the Lena Hall song, it seems like a contender.

A  song  based on  my  favorite song from my favorite muscial.  Already  sold  and   I have a feeling that this is going to  be my favorite  song of the season.

After the animatic came out, there was some debate as to whether or not the = signs meant anything or were just place markers for the real cutie marks.  Guess this is a hint as to who was right.  Expression on D's face hints this is NOT a good thing.

Sem ot epmpty that whatever is replaceing cutie makr lteraly makes everyone the same, talent and everything.  Ovious moral there but eh can't wiat

I think the equal sign episode will feature the CMC's since they wouldn't be affected by the = cutie mark. If anything they would be overjoyed by it.  ^_^ It would be interesting to see one of the opening episodes that feature our trio.

I'm hoping this means Diamond Tiara is going to grow beyond her bully role and into something a bit more substantial, finally learning her lesson about bullying. By letting her grow I think it's a good sign that at least one of the CMC will be getting their cutie mark.

I Wish Gilda could have the same character development. Unfortunately, I think Pinkie and RD were Disproportionate Redeemers, who were being jerks to teach a jerk her lesson. That's not the way it should go. I think it should really be counselling about her childhood or why she bullies. And they just made her worse. So I hope Diamond Tiara has a good character development.

I think Pinkie and RD were Disproportionate Redeemers, who were being jerks to teach a jerk her lesson.

Being jerks?

Even after seeing Gilda spook Granny Smith, steal an apple, and make Fluttershy cry (which made Pinkie visibly mad), Pinkie didn't stoop to her level or seek revenge.

"Me? I threw this party to improve your attitude. I thought a great party would turn that frown upside down."

^ Pinkie threw Gilda a party with the best of intentions. She still wanted to be friends, which isn't jerkish at all.

Remember, Dash said Gilda set all those pranks off by dumb luck.

Aside from Pinkie's hoof buzzer, they WEREN'T intentionally targeted towards her.

The moral handed itself on a plate when Gilda exploded at Pinkie after falling victim to the pranks. Calling her queen lame-o and everything.

She also expressed contempt for ALL of Ponyville's ponies, claiming "I've never met a lamer bunch of dweebs in all my life!"

It was being made abundantly clear that Gilda was a brutish, ignorant jock that only cared about being cool.

And then Dash quite rightly told her off, and it wasn't like she definitively broke off the friendship either.

Remember another thing she said: "This isn't how I thought my old friends would treat my new friends."

Rainbow straight up told her "if being cool is all you care about, maybe you need to make some cool friends some place else."

She put the ball in Gilda's court, and gave her a choice. An ultimatum.

She wasn't going to stand for the abuse of her Ponyville friends, and why would she?

Gilda could have easily apologized, back-pedalled, or even gotten upset that her friend was turning on her.

But no, she huffingly walked away saying "When you decide not to be lame anymore, gimme a call."

Which shows that she doesn't care 'that' much about Dash in the first place, if she'd let it end just like that.

TL;DR: Rainbow and Pinkie did barely anything wrong. Gilda was quite clearly the problem, much of it by her own choosing.

season 5 premiere

Socialism is magic X3

AKA Communism is magic. Really I think it's really bizarre. I think it is a communist society where every pony is treated as equal and must be happy. I personally think it is either communism or more likely something akin to the Happiness Patrol from Doctor Who.

You guys do know that totalitarianism and socalism are different from communism right? It looks more like forced total control(totalitarianism)over the ponies in that village.

The strange/creepy smiles and the = cutie marks more or less confirmed it for me. Also Rainbow Dash (likely) forced into getting that Cutie Mark helps my case I think.

That's a nice thumbnail right there.

In all seriousness, it's nice to see a few actual clips from season 5. Gives us an idea of where the animators are in the process of animating the season.

Definitely looks like a religious cult to me.  I remember Jim Jones.  But, MLP maybe more like Return of Harmony.  I've got my guesses where this will go, but the writers always seem to outguess me.

Still, it's at least 3 months to Spring & I'd guess they're not going to open until after April.  Don't know what they are going to do for trailers until then.  Recycle them, new videos on the same characters, or go w the minor characters?  Would expect at least Discord & Spike, maybe the CMCs, Luna, & Celestia

Rarity's recap is up. Last of the mane six.

Wow! Looks like Rarity loses her cutie mark too and hates losing her cutie mark. After seeing Rarity's video I have to wonder if all of the mane 6 lose their cutie marks and have to spend the rest of the season like a season long arc trying to get the cutie marks back since there cutie marks are focused on so much in the teasers. Or if it will be just in the opener. I wonder how good continuity will be in season 5.

First Dash, now this...

*gasp!* :o

I know who the Villain of Season 5 is!

img-3354812-1-7329-the-legend-of-korra-a

You make a very interesting point with this.

Rainbow Dash and Rarity having their Cutie Marks replaced with an '=' sign? no doubt at this same story line, we'll be seeing the rest of the Mane 6 facing the same problem.

Assuming this isn't done by accident like in the Season 3 finale, it's quite likely whoever is behind this has something against the very concept of Cutie Marks.

I saw the animatic, where the Mane 6 find a town of ponies with that same '=' sign Cutie Mark, there's clearly something sinister going on, I'm almost getting a Ba Sing Se from Avatar: The Last Airbender vibe out of what I'm seeing in this town, if you know I mean.

I hope the Fandom decides against making a play about it then. lol

But I think it won't, it would be too disturbing, Fluttershy is like 22 and Discord is over 1000 years old...

If you forget the BIIIIG age difference its not that disturbing.

From the animetic with the Cutie mark Table (that comes up when the M6 site in the throwns) and the Odd '=' town and then seeing how the '=' cutie mark is in all the clips, my moneys on the '=' town is the first of many corupted be an anti-unique cult. I think this is going to be an all season adventure,  no slice of life? :(

I thought of this before & went to the trouble to look it up on the Internet.  This is like Kurt Vonnegut's famous short story "Harrison Bergeron", were everyone is made equal.  (Strong are made to carry extra weight, etc.)  I mean, if you think about it, Fluttershy got picked on her whole life because she couldn't fly as well as other Pegasi.  So, the only way to stop it would be to see to it that she COULD fly as well.  Talking to Twilight makes you feel stupid? That ain't fair.  Make T dumber. Diamond Tiara picks on the CMCs because they have no cutie marks?  Now, they've all got the same.

If this is true, then they are DEFINITELY getting into some concepts not really for little kids, here.

I'll toss my theory into the ring. The CMC will start to understand Diamond Tiara  when they see how much DT's big sister bullies her. The same thing happened in Kim Possible. Kim did not like Bonnie Rottweiler. Then in one episode, she witnessed first hand how Bonnie's sisters treated her like dirt. While not becoming BFF's Bonnie and Kim eventually came to understand each other and put their differences aside. Kim even went on a mission specifically to find Bonnie a boyfriend.

I can see the CMC suddenly feeling sorry for Diamond Tiara. I would like to see a scene something like Diamond Tiara suddenly starting to cry, asking them why they were being nice when everypony knows she doesn't deserve it. Silver Spoon will then say "Not everypony."

(My headcanon says Silver Spoon actually "LOVE" loves her best friend, and wants to help her change.)

I think that on the surface the resolving moral will communicate that the cutie marks do not define the Pony. They are still who they are at heart without their cutie marks.

How we will see this will be Destiny vs Free Will. Individualism vs Collectivism. I think the analytical goodness of discussing these two forms of egalitarianism will be delicious. Not to mention that this can also address a moral of how to live your life during a crisis.

I see much potential symbolism here.

Hopefully this is handled in a less muddled way than MMC.
