First Jobs?

My first job was at a Retirement Home. WORST JOB EVER. SERIOUSLY. Never work at one.

Now I work at a Chinese Restaurant.

Funny. I used to volunteer at a retirement home, and now I work at a Chinese restaurant :)

But I was an activities volunteer. Calling bingo, serving food and drinks, gambling, I had fun with the old people :)

Now I get free Asian food and have awesome coworkers and an awesome boss, so I'm still happy :)

I'm 20 and I still have never had a job. I think I'm... pretty sad. :(

It depends on the circumstances whether or not I'll be getting one anytime soon. Though I would like to, they always reject me for not having prior experience.

Do some volunteer work. It might not be work experience, but it's experience, and it helps. And network. Network hard.

Yep, same here. Nice bosses, free food, cool coworkers. One was a pegasister but, she got fired last week...

My first job was at a Deli in a local grocery store. Unfortunately for me, it was in a small town and had both very popular chicken tenders and served chicken and dressing every Sunday for lunch. Very hectic, and very busy. I got free food, at least though. xD

And, the person nearest in age to me was...about 30 years older.

It's not really a job but I do get some money from it.I'm the opener for my local cricket club and if I play good I get the man of the match award for 50$ and if I don't play good well then I get nothing.

When I was 14 I delivered newspapers.Honestly, not bad pay for a 14 year old, but now you need a car to do any routes.

First real job was Burger King. It was pretty fun. Sometimes hectic, but I like working at a fast pace, it makes the day go faster.

Well everypony, I'm a big girl now! I've officially become a part time wage slave at my local McDonald's. In honor of this TRIUMPHANT ACHIEVEMENT, why don't we all share some first job stories? Where we worked, what kind of crazy nonsense we had to put up with, etc.

Best story I have is... um... well, the toilet was used improperly, more than once, and never in the men's bathroom. Women are discusting. But there's a brony there who was pushing carts one day and ran them into a corvette (or was it a Ferarri?) because of the wind, shit hit the fan.

And then, my boss through a freezer at th roof and it shattered so manny lights!

And then cops tazed a guy out of nowhere cause he was stalking a guy all day.

My first job? It was when I had just entered into college. For minimum wage, I worked as an IT guy in the English department with a boss that was a complete lunatic.

"Which key is the any key?" - Yeah, I was seriously asked this question by some random professor....

That was the worst job I have ever had. So much work, so little pay, and having to deal with some of the most frighteningly egotistical people on the planet. Ahhh.... Memories.....

I got my first job in August of 2003, when I was just shy of 18 years of age, and I worked as a maintenance worker in a grocery store. The job was hectic, low paying, and stultifying in the extreme. In fact, I have never worked so hard for so little money. However, I knew that I needed the money to buy my first vehicle, and since I was not involved in extracurricular activities in high school, I managed to get a good deal of hours during my senior year of high school (I often got 25-30+ hours per week, and sadly, this is now rather uncommon due to today's economic malaise). Needless to say, I had my first "ride" by October of that year (1986 Ford Bronco II), and it definitely helped me get around and be more independent.

I worked at this job until September of 2004, as I found a part-time janitorial job at a public school that had much better pay and hours; I worked less (20 hours per week) and made more money. As horrible as this first job was, it provided me with crucial experience that helped me get out of that job.

Started working on the farms around where I grew up, when I was 12-13.Then in adition got the oh so cliché paperroute ;)

Had alot of jobs before I found my professional calling, alot of shitty jobs aswell. But it doesnt matter, work experience is so valuable and will help you get better jobs.

The years working as a farmhand taught me alot, not only made money, but learned aswell ^_^ My parents never had much money, so if I really wanted something I had to work for it.

My first job was technically as a door-to-door salesman type, yet due to the product I was selling I couldn't really go door-to-door and had to get recommendations and interviews from people I knew and from people they knew. They were actually kinda cutthroat about it in that I basically had to pester people until they finally caved and gave me a sheet of names to make me go away. As you can well imagine, I only lasted a few months before I quit.

For those wondering, the product I was selling were knives. High quality knives and other kitchen utensils too, but knives none the less. Which totally isn't creepy in the slightest...

Cutco? Yeah, huge pyramid scheme, all the managers are assholes, I quit after about a month. Only good thing about working for them is the discount on the starter kit thingy. They are good knives, they're just overpriced and the company is full of assholes.

First job EVER was babysitting... I thought I did a good job but I never got hired again. By anyone. I think kids hate me... (age 12)

Then I did a lawn care service for my neighborhood (age 14) and soon a local office plaza hired me for a summer (age 16), I quit after I got attacked by swarms of mosquitoes and bees for 2 weeks straight

Now I work as a busser/host for a sports bar/restaurant (age 17).

My first job was kinda boring, so I'll tell you about the more interesting job.

I worked at a beach as a lifeguard, and all sorts of crazy stuff happened. One time my boss showed up still drunk. Another time she was hitting on a firefighter who was trying to pull a dead person out of the lake, and another time some crazy German lady stripped down to her bra and talked to the water in German. Fun place.

Yeah, I did an interview with them... They gave us a product demonstration, took one glance at my resume and told me I got the job. I was like "lol what?" and I walked out.

Used to work at a grocery store last year. Got paid way less then minimum. But I had a debt at 1000-4000 USD that I had to pay so I didn't really have much choice.

Sucked so bad but at least I'm done with it now x)

My first job was actually at a Jo-Anne Fabrics. I cut and measured fabric with hilarious old ladies. It was actually a pretty awesome job, but I lost the ability to get to the job, so I lost the job.

I started off volunteering as a Junior Counselor at a local summer day camp when I was 15. It wasn't a bad job as all I really had to do was help set up activities for the kids and escort them to the bathroom.

When I was 16, my grandpa got me a job as floor staff at the Basketball Hall of Fame. I hated it. The job primarily consisted of standing for 7 hours straight. It was tedious, my co-workers sucked, I only got paid minimum wage, and the supervisors liked to play favorites. I worked there for two and a half years.

Then, a few days after high school graduation, I got a job at a full service gas station pumping gas. I currently still work there. It's not a bad job. My boss and co-workers are nice and some of the customers make it worth it. However, it's most of the other customers that make me want to move on. 11 hour Saturdays are pretty grueling too.

Just last year, I was able to get a job at a local engineering services company as an intern in the IT department (thanks to one of my college professors). The pay is okay and I enjoy most of what I do. But now I know that IT is not something I want to make a career out of.

I finally remembered an actual thing that happened to me at my first job (Cookie place at the State Fair). During my first year working there, I had to kick out a crazy old homeless guy because he tried to pay with rusty screws or something, and then tried to climb over the counter when he wasn't given any cookies.

When I was 15 years of age, I got hired as a bus boy for a catering business!

I got fired when I dropped a whole tray of wine glasses down a long flight of steps though. :C

Lemme tell ya though. That thing was LOUD. XD

One of my very first jobs was working as an assistant for an energy electronics technician. I just turned 18.

Good payment and sure to get around much.

And thanks to that I got some good experience.

Sometimes reality is much more surreal than fiction. I had to wait for my boss at a client's place once. It was an old restored mansion which was used as a retirement home at that time. Everything was coloured white. Had to wait at the bottom of a big staircase which led to a single room. The door was open and all I could see was a shadow of a person rocking back and forth while eerie music was coming out of said room.

I dunno why, but I just had the urge to call out for that person and hoped for a reply. Shadow stopped moving and the music died soon afterwards. I called out again. Nothing. Shadow didn't move an inch. I kept standing there for almost half an hour. Neither moved that shadow nor played that music again.

Thought I was in some kind of movie.

I worked for about 2 years as an assistant for that technician. I got some more stories, like one case about electricity theft, another case about a peculiar encounter with a dude who just got his current supply deliberately cut by us, some more stories about locations with me being left alone like that old wooden house in the middle of the blair witch forest kind of forest. <.<

An accident with a mobile crane vs bridge.

Oh, and a certain basement I like to call hell.

Good old times.

My first jobs were being a tutor and a teacher's assistant when I started college, but my first, real job was Wal-Mart.

Dude, I don't even know what to say about it. Central vally, California, 24-hour Wal-Mart? Bunches of meth-heads and migrant workers? It made the job pretty interesting, though it was still soul-crushingly awful. Lots of crazy people stories, but I'm sure, if you've been to Wal-Mart, you've seen them all play out.

One story tugged at my heart-strings, though.

One super late night, a woman and her 3rd-grader daughter show up at my register. The mom spoke no English, so the little girl was asking me all the questions. Once I told her the amount, this little girl fills out the check for her mom, who then, with great difficulty, printsher signature on the check. This moved me so much, it totally changed my mind about illegal immigrants...well that and going down to Mexico to see the state of affairs that these types of people attempt to escape.

First job was in the produce section of Co-Op (grocery chain out here). As for zany stories, when watermelons rot it is the WORST. POSSIBLE. THING. Also, the management told me a scary story about black widows showing up in bags of grapes on occasion so I get extremely nervous whenever I buy grapes now (which is also much less often than it would be had I not worked there).
