The best alternative to a Cintiq Monitor?

During my 2 semesters at an art class, I was fortunate enough to use the Cintiq monitors at their class.  These monitors were really accurate in terms of pen to plastic, almost as accurate as drawing by hand.

 

But alas, these monitors are more expensive than a high-end gaming machine(Around more than $2000).  In the future, I may consider buying a monitor similar to a Cintiq.  But I need to know what monitor is similar to a Cintiq, but not as expensive.  If you have ANY recommendations, feel free to reply.
