Any autistic bronies here in MLP Forums?

I was diagnosed with aspergers syndrome at age 6. I don't really see it as a disability as much as I see it as a trade off. If I didn't have autism I probably would have an entirely different set of skills.

Yes, I am on the spectrum. Aspergers, to be precise. I was diagnosed with it at a young age, but I've had a lot of help from specialists, so you probably wouldn't know unless I told you about it.

A fair few of my friends have forms of autism, so I feel like I relate with them a fair bit. However, a lot of other friends don't know I have it, and I don't plan on telling them any time soon in fear of being treated differently.

Maybe I'll get over this irrational fear someday.

*raises hoof* Meep. I am in this group. I was diagnosed many years ago with Aspergers Syndrome and later the mental health doctors that I seen classified my case as 'Severe Aspergers Syndrome', those were the words they used. It highly affects every aspect of my life, and because of that my life is...well, kinda...pointless in a lot of ways, but I try to just be happy. The positive is that because of my mental stuff I have a very unique personality because of it. so that is a good thing I think.

I'd actually like to here from a brony on here who isn't autistic. Wonder what can get an "ordinary person" interested in my little pony.

Hello. I am not autistic. I can answer your question too!

I do not consider myself a brony, but I do enjoy the show. People without autism you'll find can enjoy all the same things that people will can. We too can appreciate art, music and the light hearted humor of the show. While we may not enjoy it on the same level in that we do not find a deeper connection with it (I don't speak for everyone), we can appreciate it. One of the major difference with bronies who have autism is that they are more likely to become "bronies" where people without are more likely to just be "fans".

If MLP has helped people with their lives, I say that's all fine and good, just be careful not to let it become too much of your life.

I do.  I was much worse in elementary school than I am today, but I still can't look people in the eye and my emotions are more muted than most.  I can sort of talk to people, but I'm lackluster at it and I'm introverted, so I have no desire to anyways.  The fact that I still stutter doesn't help.

I have aspergers. Socializing can be difficult at times and it's hard for me to maintain eye contact, also my attention span is horrible.

I have Asperger's syndrome, but I have a pretty weird case...

I am overly empathic. (even seeing someone sad almost puts me in tears) yet I have terrible social skills....

I have the same problem but it's definitely not as bad as yours.

I am autistic, but I am told I don't seem autistic unless I'm nervous. That's when I act like a stereotypical autistic person rocking back and forth and flapping hands.

I hate being autistic though. People assume I will act a certain way or want to be left alone because I'm autistic. In reality, expecting me to get mad will make me mad, and I prefer to not be left alone.

Over on fimfiction there is a story Unwell by Hazamabrony Twilight has ACMS (Abstract Cutie Mark Syndrome = Pony Asperger's).  About 1/2 the story is her friends' reactions to being told this.  Set after Lesson Zero but before Canterlot Wedding.  The author is working on a sequel but there are only 2 or 3 chapters of that out as yet.

Well, by me its a very special situation.

Every school, work place or other place i am longer, people tell me, that they think i have autism.

That happens every time. And then i usually do a test every time, because they tell me, it would help me to communicate better with people, if i get myself tested and maybe go into a therapy.

But every time they test me, its the same. They cant find out what i have. They always say : Well, you dont have autism, but i believe it could be a sub form of autism.

And thats it. And still today, people ask me if i have autism. And the doctors still tell me, they cant find anything, but believe it could be some sort of autism. So, i honestly dont know if im autistic or not

But apparently im strange to people, so there is that

I'm starting to question if those "doctors" even know what to look for when diagnosing one who may have autism to begin with. Cuz I was diagnosed when I was 4, so the earlier the diagnose has been made, the better. :)

Do those doctors have the experience to even recognize if you have it or not?

Well, i was told they are experts  :ooh:

Like everytime they told me.

One thing i can remember from this tests was, that the problem by me is, that i look people in the eyes. And thats what autistic people dont do usually? I dont know.

Also they say, i answer every question and can talk to people normally, so they say it cant be autism really.

Well, they said way more than that, but i cant really remember. The last tests was with a computer, that scanned my brain waves.

And i had a talk with a doctor by the Arge. ( which is a place, where you go, if you dont have a job. Its also called jobcenter. )

And the doctor there told me again, i could have autism because i dont really look people in the eyes so much, and sometimes i stutter, while saying things.

So they are kinda contradicting themselves. But there is one thing i know: Yes, i have problems talking to people. In most cases i just end up, having no idea what to say. Every conversation with me ends, with me just not answering back at some point.

My guess is that you may have a very mild form that it's not very noticeable or something.

Asperger's here too, and I'd say @Key Sharkz has it spot on.

I've been lucky, in being surrounded by caring, understanding people who support me but wont let me use it as a 'get out of jail free' card.

It's easy to fall into that trap sadly. Some people let caring go too far. It's important to know when you're being compassionate vs. being dismissive.

Hm, I am one who does not have any but am rather sensitive to those with the disorder/disability. I'm not really all too sure since it's nothing I know much of, besides personal encounters with people that have the disorder. (I say that but i know the basics)

Anyways, I actually picked up on something, perhaps it's just the perception of all the Autistic bronies together in a thread or maybe, in reality. Bronies do have a rather high population of Bronies with some sort of learning/social disorder/ability. Just as they do, LGBT. I think it's cool about this fandom, with as many differences we have. There tend to be some major things that bond it together... only wish that was showed a bit more.

Aye, I have Aspergers syndrome, and as such, am on the spectrum. Not sure how long I have had it mind you. Granted, it is not the most noticeable thing.

You will have had it your entire life, you are born with it, though the signs don't show straight away.

Also, everyone is on the spectrum (hence why it's a spectrum) its just many people sit in the middle, and thus are "normal" whilst those of us off center have autism.
