Clop debate (wait, what?) and new emoticons

I looked through the clop discussion thread and the rules and whatnot, and a couple of things caught my eye - One being the mere mentioning of oneself being a clop artist is banned, no art shared whatsoever is against the rules, and even dropping the name of a site that hosts clop (no link, just naming) is against the rules. That sounds kind of like overkill to me  Better than nothing, I suppose, but...

In any case, there's more important things to discuss, like how awesome Obsidian's emotes are :rarity: :har: :rarity:

He's got a real knack for them, and I hope the Rarity ones stay :har: He really likes making Rarity emotes especially, he made an entire set for us in the RFC  :rarity: Nice work, buddy!

I'm a huge fan of emoticons and this is just. *Faints*  :pinkie:  I would love if we could still keep these after the holidays? :dash:

:sneer::dash: <--- These two warm my heart!

Anyways, I hope all stays peaceful here.

That stood out to me, too. No art and no links I understand, I even understand why we can't post the names of (dedicated) clop sites, but I don't get why it's against the rules to name an artist.

:kindness:dear lord, this emoticon is adorable

It's very likely that you'll get to keep them, yes. However, we'll probably use the versions without Santa hats.

Most of the rules make sense but the rule about even mentioning a particular site that posts clop seems like a bit much. I also noticed that there is a rule against mentioning you are say a clop artist does this also extend to admitting that you engage in that particular activity assuming you of course don't get too graphic or just that you ahem create such content? Aside from those matters I am going to check it out and see how it goes.

Love the emoticons :ooh: hope they stay a bit and get a scoots loo one finally as far as clip I'm glad there is a thread and strictly monitored one even if I don't partake in the art of erotic ponies :twilight:

By the way will there ever be a update so I can get the emoticon bar without flash since I'm on a phone?

Let me try and clarify the reasoning behind that rule a little bit since there seems to be some confusion on it, as well as some discussion on why it's even there.

One of the big concerns with allowing clop topics up until now has been the fact that they have a tendency to go off into unwanted directions very easily.  Longer topics on the forum have a tendency to take on a very conversational style.  Part of this is that longer topics tend to drift off a little bit away from the original topic from time to time.  For most topics, that's just a fact of how forums work, but for something like a clop topic, veering slightly off the original topic can wind up going into some bad places we don't want to explore on the forum pretty quickly.  So, when the staff designed this thread, we tried to make it in a way that would discourage people from veering off topic.

To put it another way, mentioning an artist on that thread can seem innocent enough, but the problems start happening when the next post is someone commenting on really liking that artist, and the next is on their latest drawing that came out, and you can imagine where it can go from there.  Put simply, we want to try and avoid situations where an innocent comment can snowball into a very nsfw discussion.

On top of this, there were concerns about the ease of access to NSFW content.  One of the other facts of being on a forum like this is we have members as young as 13 years old.  Even without posting a link on the forum, putting the names of clop sites, names of clop artists, and other very specific information is just inviting a Google search.  The staff wants to keep this site as a place where parents can feel safe allowing their children to use the forum without having to worry that they're going to accidentally end up on a Google search full of porn.

Beyond both of these, this also simply isn't the type of discussion the thread is meant for.  It's not a place to discuss where you get your clop, what type of clop you like, who your favorite artist is, or anything else of that nature.  It's primarily intended as a thread to discuss clop's effect on the fandom, a topic which members have asked to be able to discuss for a very long time.  As a result, names of clop artists and outing yourself as a clop artist isn't particularly necessary to have the discussion.  Put simply, we don't want to turn this thread into a place to recommend clop-fics.

In the end, the staff is trying to find a way to alleviate concerns with having this topic discussed on the forum, while still allowing members to have the discussion.  Hopefully everybody can understand that it's incredibly difficult to find a way to safely allow this discussion topic on a family-friendly forum, so there are inevitably going to be some restrictions in place.  I really hope that everybody can understand the purpose behind making the thread a bit more restrictive than most.

does this also extend to admitting that you engage in that particular activity

You can say you're a clopper, yes.  As discussed above, the rule is specific to not saying you are a content-creator.

That odd moment when adorable, heart-rending, kawaii desu ne emoticons are included in the same OP as one covering the creation of a clop discussion thread... ONLY ON MLP FORUMS!  :fluttershy:

HO HO HO, MERRY CHRISTMAS FORUMS, WE CAN NOW TALK CLOP!  :pinkie:  Wait... that's not the right emoticon for that!  :wau:   Lemme try again....

HO HO HO, MERRY CHRISTMAS FORUMS, WE CAN NOW TALK CLOP!   Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhh...

In all seriousness, I do hope this experiment goes well and works out just fine.  I understand the staff's reasoning behind this addition, but obviously it's still a risky endeavor all the same.  Play nice everypony, and keep your clop talks where they belong.  :kindness:

OK, one more time...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Teehee, I love that bedroom eyes emoticon!  :twilight:

Yaaaay! :D I love these Christmas emotes and I'd love to be able to use their expressions all through the year :3  :pinkie: <<This one especially, haha!

(Does this mean that all the emotes will be getting Christmas "treatment" next year? :o XD)

ummm, why is clop allowed. ANYWHERE?! Get rid of it all.

Clop isn't allowed on this site. There are many other places where people can discuss their sexual habits. You can rest assured that MLP Forums is not one of those places. However, there exists room for legitimate discussion on how clop impacts the fandom. This is what the thread is about, and this is why this thread exists.

I thought it was banned entirely! Why do people even like it?

:mustache:

Sadly, I must disagree with everyone.

What ever can beat a glorious mustache?

New emoticons are great, though! Hope that debate goes swell!
