So what obscure bands do you listen to?

I like:

Anamanaguchi, chip-tune fast paced rock

Caravan Palace, a swing\electronic band from Paris

The J Arthur Keen Band, fantastic chip-tune music

Ken Ashcorp, a lot more well known for the pony song he made recently

Passion Pit, not exactly sure what genre that is

Biting Elbows, a indie rock band from Russia

So that's about most of them, the rest aren't on my mind right now.

Skeletonwitch is about as Obscure as I can claim to and their popularity was probably boosted significantly with Brutal Legend which had a Skeletonwitch track on it. It's actually where I heard of them from.

Yeah, the SW boys are a bit... yeah, but they're pretty cool.

Obscure? Eh... anything from the black metal genre, Ziltoid the Omniscienct by Devin Townsend, and anything by Deicide. Deicide scare the living shit out of me...

If they're legitimately obscure: Saltatio Mortis, Arkona, and some others not notable enough for mentions.

But for something truly obscure, a musical project called 'Morgenstern'. (Not the Folk Metal band)

Where is the Twilight, where's the Sparkle

Where's dear Fluttershy knocking on the door

Where's the Rainbow Dash that takes me there

Where the real is shattered by a Pinkie Pie

Define "obscure". There are plenty of local bands who have played three shows and put out a four song EP, but suck. Are we looking for some kind of quality here?

Regardless, have these.

This band is from my hometown, they got signed to Lifeforce Records back in 2001... only put out one full length. Sadface.

Okay. These guys. A four man band out of Minneapolis and criminally unknown. Really chill and somber music.

No one I have talked to really knows who the band Palace Fires is, so maybe they count.

The Fall of Troy is the most obscure band I know of. They do Mathcore (Even though Wikipedia says post-hardcore, a good friend of mine introduced me to them and I take his word for it rather than Wikipedia's on this). My favorite album is the self titled debut album.

I posted about them once before, but I think the most obscure modern band I know and love is Afroskull. They make me happy because they're a rock band with brass/saxophone (yes, I separate them solely because saxophone is not a brass instrument! =P), but they aren't Ska or anything near it... Which pretty much all rock bands that feature brass/saxophone seem to be to some extent nowadays... Instead they're jazz/funk rock with a metal edge at times.

As for another... I know a multitude of obscure Brass Rock bands from the early 70s. Surely this one counts!

One of my favorite bands is Morphine, whom happen to be pretty obscure outside of the Indie jazz fusion music scene.

They were a three piece power trio centered around a baritone and tenor sax and a 2-string slide bass instead of a conventional electric guitar.

Who you jiving with that cosmik debris?

The most obscure artists I like that I can think of right now are Christopher Willits, Ramona Falls, Reasoner, and Stellardrone. Christopher Willits, Reasoner, and Stellardrone all do ambient music for the most part while Ramona Falls does Indie Rock. All of them are fantastic though, and deserve to be less obscure.

The most obscure band I listen to is this indie pop band called The Push Kings.

They were very popular in Japan, but they didn't get so much fame elsewhere. As such, they split up in 2001.

Another one is an obscure-ish nu metal band called Spineshank.

So far, they've released four albums and seven singles in between, with only one of them reaching the US top 40. Their most popular song didn't chart, but it was featured in the soundtrack for Freddy Vs. Jason.
