How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I watched the show and loved the message!

I am a storyteller and I find the whole MLP:FiM idea highly intriguing.  I have created a Personal OC for the series but am having difficulty figuring out what her cutie mark would be.  Her backstory is, from my perspective, interesting if, perhaps, unoriginal.

Stormy Night was born in Philly-delphia to parents who were both overachievers.  Both of them got their cutie marks early on as foals. Her younger sister, Starry Night, also got her cutie mark very early in her life.  Stormy, however, was the only foal in her class to graduate from school without a cutie mark on her flank even though her grades were very high and was teased ruthlessly by many of her classmates as a result. Her parents were both shocked and disappointed and consulted a pediatrician to find out if there was something wrong with her.  The pediatrician told them the same thing that ponies told the Cutie Mark Crusaders.  Typically, the cutie mark will appear when the young pony discovers what makes him or her special.  Being the kind of ponies they were, they engaged several different life coaches and similar kinds of ponies to try and help Stormy figure out what made her special.  It didn't work.  Mainly because she felt so self-conscious about failing to find it in school, like her classmates did.  She didn't know then that she was unable to discover her cutie mark because she was trying to please her parents and what few friends she had rather than trying to understand what made her special.

Eventually, a good friend suggested that what she needed most was to leave Philly-delphia and get out on her own.  Shortly after following this advice, she realized that the thing that made her special was her amazing ability to tell stories (I don't mean writing stories, I mean relating the stories verbally).  It was then that her cutie mark finally appeared.  My trouble is this... What should her cutie mark be?  My daughter has suggested a book and a feather pen with a lightning shaped shaft, but I'm not sure that this is appropriate.  Any thoughts, my bronies and pegasisters?

Hey there, welcome to the forums! :) I hope you enjoy your stay in this friendly community!  :pinkie:

Your OC does sound fairly interesting, I agree :) For her cutie mark, well... this is probably a rubbish idea, but I was thinking it could be a mirror, for that's what stories do... reflect the heart of the pony that tells them, and makes all those listening self-reflect themselves...

For the stories are not out there in the world, nor can they be summarized by a symbol... no, they are within us, and that's where we must look :)

Hey there Stormy Night! Welcome to the forums! I heard there's a blizzard in Fillydelphia. Hope the ponies there are okay.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

Welcome Stormy! I hope you have a lot of fun here, and that you keep working on your OC! She sounds great to me, though I'm not sure what I would suggest for a cutie mark besides the obvious open book.

Actually, after some consideration, I'm combining your idea, Eloquence, with the earlier one from Eduardo_Brony.  I thought that a heart-shaped mirror might be too obscure or misleading.  However a book-shaped mirror might actually get the point across.  Something like this :).  Anyway, Thank you for all your suggestions.  She settles in Ponyville, gets the standard Pinkie Pie Welcome to Ponyville party and sets herself up as Ponyville's resident storyteller.  Whenever she's blue, Pinkie can be counted on to turn up and ask her for a story, as sharing stories is what usually cheers her up, much like yours truly.

Hi, Stormy Night! Welcome! First, I love your character and story ideas. Great stuff and I enjoyed that little bit you put up for us to read. So, you're in need of a cutie mark for your character? Hmm... If I may, I'd like to make a suggestion or two if you don't mind.

First, let's look at your character: She's extremely intelligent, studies hard and does well in her studies like Twilight Sparkle but she also works hard to please others like Pinkie Pie. Finally she's rather self conscious like Fluttershy but it seems to me that, like Fluttershy, she does come through in the end. Perhaps unique combination of all three of those cutie marks could work? I'll leave you to think about that. Again, welcome! Glad to have you with us!
