Do you find an older version of something cooler/better than the modern version?

Physical books. I really REALLY dislike ebooks from both a political and consumer standpoint. DRM in ebooks is freaking terrible. Once you buy a physical copy of a book, it's yours. You can read it however you please or lend it to a friend and you didn't even need to sign a single TOS agreement! You can even return to it decades later and relive some nostalgia with that fantastic old-book smell.

Then you get into the physical experience. Reading is so much more relaxing to me than staring at an electronic device. Programming may be what I do, but I don't want computers to deliver all of my content. I sometimes want to get away from technology and just relax on my bed with a good book without worrying about emails or texts.

Vinyl Records vs let's say CDs

Just something about a Vinyl Record on a Turntable....sounds sooo much better than a modern MP3 or CD.

and Cars. Old cars were built like tanks. using thick steel bodies, cast Iron engine blocks, steel wire wheels, and sometimes even wood. Nowadays cars are built out of sheet metal and cheap plastic.

Like, this was magnificent...I love  the fins and just over all design of 50s-60s cars. Cars nowadays look all the same. I sometimes think I was born in the wrong era...

Also, ALL THAT GLORIOUS CHROME!

If music counts, I find older music better than modern music. I tend to listen to 60s, 70s, and 80s rock more than current rock. I listen to 80s and 90s country more than modern country. Disco and new wave are great genres too.

The older Herbie the Love Bug movies were better than the modern one with Lindsay Lohan.

There's a lot of newer things i like, (like my smartphone and my Xbox), but the draw of the older stuff is just too much. I grew up with a lot of older stuff, so, i grew to love the old stuff, it has a certain character. I still like to go to antique stores and auctions. The other day, I was listening to synchronicity by the police on vynl. love it.

Also, i have many old game systems and computers (and i play them, especially my Atari 2600, 6-switch even!)

And cars? Dont get me started on that! (Ill take an old mopar anyday! ) theres no sound like a Chrysler 440 v8 rumbling through a set of flowmasters.

I don't usually find the classical versions better, after all I'm a man of the times. Even being on this forum proved I'm inclined to like technology and watch a 4th gens show. But I can list off a few things.

Harpsicord>Piano

Classical art>Modern Art

Old Architecture>Modern building design

Standard TV>3D TV

Console controllers>Weird remotes and stuff that nobody can use.

A lot of these are more general culture things, but I can't really say much for the technology. Newer is generally better..Aside for a few unnecessary apple products.

Older versions of some car models I guess.

Mostly older Jaguars, though I still like some of the newer German cars.

A lot of 2D shooters. Not to say they're inherently superior, but they possess a charm and a type of immersion I don't find in modern shooters. The objective these days is to make things look and feel as lifelike as possible, which is certainly cool, but a shooter offering little more than escapism and a more pleasing color palette. In short, the more resource intensive a game is for the machine playing it, the more mind intensive it typically is for the player. Fun stuff, but simplicity is also nice at times.

Have a look at one of my favorite shooters from the 90s, Dark Forces:

This game is more fun and pleasing to the eye in my opinion than much of the stuff I'm grabbing on Steam these days, and I played this thing on DOS when it arrived in 1995.

My god.

Dork Farces is THE SH*T.

Dork Farces 2 even more so.

But yeah, I never buy any AAA modern PC games.

I only buy indie games (occasionally), like To The Moon and Legend of Grimrock (picking them up today. So hype!)

But, old stuff? Oh, GOD. Fallout, Morrowind, RCT, Ultima Underworld, Incredible Machine, DARK FREAKING FORCES

and I find the Renaissance age to be much cooler then the modern age

Eeeehhhhhh...... I read the Renaissance's hygiene was lacking as it was considered taboo and unchristian.... I'm not very fond of skipping bath time, I'll stick with this time  :P

I'm actually having a hard time thinking what older versions of stuff are better in my opinion, as I usually stick with the improvements of today's era rather than stick with the usual impracticalities of the past. Either because I see the pro-cons of both (videogames mostly), I prefer the modern (weapons, computers), I find them too campy and dumb (comic books, James Bond movies) or I don't really care (cars). There are some exceptions though:

-Disney animated movies: I had a blast in my childhood with those movies, and today are fun to watch too, but they're nothing special

-Nintendo pre-WII househeld conoles: I'll pick ANY of those before WII, WII left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Most of it's own games were far inferior than it's precious releases. I see that WIIU might have adressed most of WII's issues and the games looks high quality again, but I haven't touched a WIIU yet, so I can't comment further

-Many Super Mario Bros series: I'd pick any retro Mario over many of the past generation. At least that's the case of any Paper Mario post Thousand Years Door and platforming ones since New Super Mario Bros (I heard the NEW Super Mario World is a huge improvement though)

-3D househeld Zeldas:  Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are a huge dissapointment (Wind Waker Remastered don't count  :P )

Oh for sure. I still prefer 2d sprites over 3D models. On top of that I love Pokemon crystal but I really dislike the Soul Silver and Heart Gold. Oddly enough though the gen 3 remakes I found amazing though I had disliked changes. However I throw this to my in game gambling problem not being affected cause the casino was pretty bad in gen 3 anyway..

When you say older things. Two video-game series come to my mind.

First one is the Need for Speed series. Exotic cars and police chases were great. The Fast and Furious inspired Underground, Most Wanted and Carbon games were also good. Carbon being a 7/10 though. It all went shit from there, sadly.

The second game series that comes to my mind is Call of Duty. It went from epic WW2 campaigns to COD 4: Modern Warfare which took the series in a new direction but after that, it all went shit from there, sadly.

I also think that the older models of the Honda Civic are much better than what the car has become today. I especially loved the 6th and 7th Gen civics.

That's one of the reasons I picked Terraria over the more popular (And Sweetie Belle approved :P ) Minecraft

Doritos. A lot of old snacks, actually.

I know, they changed for health's sake.

But still... I loved the way my fingers would get all colorful.

I want my cancerous snacks, full of trans fat back! ;-;

Lol

(edited)

Terminator 1 is better than the sequels.

I feel this way for all big hit movie sequels. I can't think of one that isn't better than the first. To name another be Bourne identity.

Melee's Falco in Super Smash Bros looks and sounds cooler/better than the next two smash series.
