Fillies and Gentlecolts, may I present the first official match for All Elite Wrestling.

Nice!

My only wish for AEW is that Cody Rhodes doesn't pull a Jeff Jarrett & make himself the main champion every chance he gets.

Well, Today marks the 20th anniversary of Owen Hart's tragic death at Over The Edge 1999.

He didn't need to do that stupid stunt. It wouldn't have hurt anything if he didn't do it. If I had a time machine I would have gone back and prevented it from happening.

His death gives me negative opinions of Vince McMahon, Vince Russo, The Attitude Era, and the Monday Night Wars. But that's just me.

Owen was a fantastic wrestler. I enjoyed his teaming up with the British Bulldog, as well as his time in the Hart Foundation.

RIP "King of Harts"

:(

Man was ahead of his time. Even Bret said he was the better between them. We may no longer have him, but we still have his legacy and all he offered to this sport of ours.

AEW is live! The casino battle Royale is live as we speak. Winner gets to be a number one contender to the AEW belt vs. The winner of Omega/ Y2J.

Well, I did watch AEW - DON event... though, just the ones with YBs against the LBs...

Spoiler

It was an exciting match and also them skills and moves they did and also counters too. Though, I was rooting for Penta and Fenix to win back the AAA tag team titles, but alas, YBs retain. Again, a nice match.

And Cody bashing the HHH throne, I was like 'DAMN! Guess this means war'...

How was All Elite Wrestling's premier?

Should WWE be worried?

I thought it was a good show. More than a few production miscues and kerfuffles, but that's to be expected. It wasn't New Japan levels of glorious but defintiley solid matches throughout. That and we also got more than a few surprises.

I'd recommend ordering the show and checking it out for yourself. But yeah if they have that level of consistency on a weekly basis, they should be.

I thought it was a *great* show & I'm pumped to see what AEW produces in the future! :squee:

One thing I liked in particular was Jim Ross's commentary,

he sounded reinvigorated like, he got his passion for commentating back again.

Man, the WCW World Championship lost all of its prestige by the time WWE bought WCW.

Major understatement. Following the infamous Fingerpoke of Doom, the WCW title turned into a game of musical chairs, especially under Russo’s tenure as creative. Having David Arquette as champ, for example, is leagues of stupid.

I thought that was to help promote WCW''s "Ready to Rumble" movie. :ooh:

The main thing I liked about "Double or Nothing" was that it was focused more on wrestling than storylines.

I used to really like the "How we got here." but I've found myself caring less and less about that aspect of wrestling the longer I've been a fan.

I think AEW could be a serious threat to WWE, like WCW was.

I think so yeah, but not in a ratings sense, as AEW is looking to avoid direct competition. It's more so competition over talent and advertisers rather than viewership per week.

Because even at WCW's peak, Raw still had a solid viewer base, and I don't see that changing, especially now that the company has a subscriber model that hasn't really dipped like the ratings have.

I hope so.

The last thing I want to see is another "Impact Wrestling is moving to Mondays!" situation because it would make AEW look desperate for attention.

Alright so the big talking point as of late was AEW.

But lets not forget that NJPW is currently running the 25th anniversary of the best of the super juniors tournament.

Now I'm a ways behind. I'm currently on Day 6. But we've already had some very stand out matches.

It's clear that they're super high on Shingo Takagi, but they're also set on starting Sho of Roppongi 3K on his singles path, as the two put on a barn burner of a match on night one. Not to be out done, the B Block also had it's own instant classic in Rocky Romero vs. Will Osprey. Seems like this is the tourney where the veterans show that they've still got some gas in the tank, as Rocky, Tiger Mask and Taka Michinoku have all had great showings thus far. But at the same time, the next crop are giving time to shine. Do keep your eyes on Jonathan Gresham, TitAn and El Phantasmo.

It's early, but I'm predicting the final will be Osprey vs. Takagi. Gonna be a hell of a show in Ryugoku hall, the same night that one Jon Moxley makes his New Japan debut.

I think AEW's only real competition would be Impact. There's no way that they even come close to the behemeth that is the WWE. That being said, I am very interested in seeing where AEW goes from here.

I dunno. Impact are on a rather obscure channel now. Even more so then when they were on pop TV or Destination America. They're more on Lucha Underground's level.

I think the closest competition is with Ring Of Honor, as they have national syndication and the backing of Sinclair Broadcasting, the guys who kicked WWE out of MSG.

Yeah, Ring of Honor will definitely be a pretty direct competitor with AEW. We shall see as things go along.

Alright now here's something I've been thinking about since the 2/7 belt came out.

What are your top 5 best and top 5 worst inaugural championship designs? Belts who either got it right or very wrong on the first try?

Rules: No custom or personal belts and no championships that had belts from a prior strap IE: WCW and WWE borrowing the big gold or the AJPW triple crown being made from three belts.

For example, and getting the worst out of the way:

Spoiler

One step forward and two steps back for the SD women's division. This belt looked like it came from a Bratz collection. It also looked a bit painful to wear. funy how the most memorable moment of Mania 32 is this belt getting shunted down the garbage chute.

See the source image

The belt so bad, it ruined the dream match of Tyler Black vs. Prince Devitt. If the shoulder injury didn't kill the demon's push, this would've.

Even the WWE's top prize didn't have the best start. Says world champion. Depicts the united states as the center plate. On red leather of all things. At least it can't get any worse.

It did. NWA's attempt to create a championship to represent the nation spawned this half baked relic. Yet for some reason, Billy Corgan decided to make a new National belt in homage to this.

Pretty sure this is the worst belt in wrestling history. the others were ugly but at least they attempted to be distinct. This is the definition of bland and rushed. My condolences to the company who took credit in making this.

*takes deep breath.* Okay, the worst is behind us. Let the good belts roll.

Spoiler

The diametric opposite of the 24/7 belt. AEW's first show smashed it out of the park and so did their first belt.

Pro wrestling NOAH was in the same position AEW was in 20 years ago. Misawa and his new fed needed to hit it out of the park and their first and current championship was a great start.

Now this is how you make a red strap look good. Funny how Japan can make a better U.S. title than the U.S.

Out of all the stutter steps TNA took in the latter half of the '00s, this was one done right. Upon their breakaway from the NWA, this was a promising fresh start. Shame that the company never lived up to the promise.

Now here's a tag team belt for the ages. The last surviving belts of the old PWF, now used by All Japan. These are stylish and timeless enough to be singles championships, let alone as secondary tag belts.

Your turn.
