Right now the group would be located somewhere in between canterlot and the everfree forest. http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/013/a/5/fallout__equestria_map_by_silentcarto-d48gvst.png So that would explain most of the nothingness, except for the little caves and mountain/hills here and there, they are nearing a new establishment that we created called Hellhound Sanctuary, of course that's the name that most of the wasteland knows it by but in reality it is a small haven for dashites(who are being cracked down upon by the enclave right now). Also ranger, the ship had crashed quite a long time ago and a portion of it detached and exploded, making it convincing that nothing was to salvage. Plant life also covers alot of it and hellhounds surround the area. So to the rangers, traveling to a remote location, with a huge chance of losing men for something that might not yield anything is not really something anypony would do. Well think of the kind of place it is. It's an abandoned amusement park, so the sign might be broken and they just slap together a name from what was left and what sounded appropriate.
