That depends. 

If you love depressed, post-apocalyptic atmosphere, feeling that you're really affecting people's lives and dark stations, full of zombies, then it's Fallout 3.

If you love hardcore, careful planning of char's development, great DLC's with astounishing locations, horrible difficulties in certain places, very deep roleplaying sytem, big, branched dialogues and collecting, collecting, collecting -- then it's Fallout New Vegas.

I liked New vegas better than the others, May not have a great story, but gameplay was awesome. Really gives you more choices on what your characters build was, FO3 felt more like you were just going with the flow of the game; not much else. But that's just my opinion.

They're both great game. It's hard to tell which is the best. I'd tend to prefer New Vegas but it could be otherwise.

I love them both, but right now I am playing New Vegas so its a hard choice to pick I will go with New Vegas.
