What's With this thing with The Steven Universe Fandom vs. The Brony Fandom?

(I copypasted this from my post on Chikoritas Status.)

Why does this have to be a thing? I remember a time when it was the LPS fandom vs. the brony fandom and the Gravity Falls Fandom vs. the brony fandom. Do these guys have a superiority complex? Is it a sin to be fans of both?

The internet....

As a member of both fandoms, this is my take on it. Basically, some SU fans are freaking out that Bronies are making a SU fan site, thinking it'll "infect" the fandom with r34 stuff and generally make it worse and toxic and whatever. Usual reactionary stuff from a loud minority, it's not like the fandoms are actually butting heads or anything. There might be a bit of a rivalry forming in general, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If anything, SU and AT fandoms have more of a rivalry since SU was created by a prior AT storyboard artist and composer and the shows pull a similar audience.

Its just a Tumblr thing.

SU fans on Tumblr think that bronies are trying to infect their show with our toxicity or something. I wouldn't put much stock in it, just your run of the mill pointless drama.

Essentially. It doesn't really represent the majority of either side, and the drama will die down soon. Any SU fans other than tumblr extremists probably have forgotten it already.

I can easily mention why that is a stupid claim. For one, just because someone in another fandom makes a fan site, doesn't mean they'll infect it with ponies. Hey, EQD also made an anime fan site and you don't see them complaining.

Also, like there isn't any R34 in their fandom? *sarcasm*

what triggered it all, was EQD made a sister site run by one of their staff members that posts stuff about Steven Universe

Anyhoo, just SJWs being themselves. "Ermagerd, bronies 'stole' MLP from teh girls, and now they're trying to do the same thing to Steven Universe! THIS MEANS WAR."

>Implying that SU is in any way gendered

>Also implying that people shouldn't have the personal autonomy to enjoy something regardless of which gender it's "supposed" to appeal to

What a laugh. Anyway, aside from having reblogged horsenews's post and mocking the everloving fuck out of these nutters, I have no plans on joining this pointless "war" as one does not simply keep people out of a fandom. What do they plan to do, doxx any brony they catch watching SU? Please.

Oh it's the Tumblr SJW kind of war. Also that article was hilarious.

As someone in both fandoms, and as a woman, I can assure you that this is all utter nonsense perpetuated by people with nothing better to do than fight an imaginary war to make them feel good about themselves without actually having to do anything that might benefit society.

It does raise a couple of interesting points about the nonsense of this fandoms "haters" in general, so I suppose I'll address those. Firstly, please remember that if people are being sucky in your fandom, the logical and productive course of action is to recognize them as what they are; people being sucky in your fandom. It's ridiculous to hear these people talk about "bronies infecting their fandom" when the people they're supposedly fighting against would be Steven bucking Universe fans. I understand the desire not to take responsibility for yourself and your own fandom and all but come on, this is just willful self-delusion.

Secondly, a point that comes to mind every time I see someone complaining about men "stealing" MLP from girls and women, and the statement I'll leave everyone with; if you honestly believe that girls and women aren't allowed to like something anymore because there are a lot of men who like it, then who's the real misogynist here?

Steven universe looks kinda shit anyway. They'd be lucky if we graced them with our r34 artists :P

But that's an opinion from the advert for it, which makes it look as shocking as uncle grandad or whatever.

Really if a fandom is like that they should just be feking internet barred xD

Or they could just ban sjw or whatever they are. Tumblrs only good for r34 anyway.

*ugh* These SJWs seem to forget that there may be plenty of SU R34, and they can be created by any person of any gender. Male, female, minority genders, cisgender, transgender, etc.

Seriously, "invade" or "invest" the SU fandom? Gee whiz, as if they don't actually want the fandom to grow in size. */sarcasm* Already, there are plenty of bronies who love SU, and there are plenty of SU fans who are bronies. SJWs don't comprehend that you CAN be a fan of multiple cartoons as well as be a proud brony. Seeing how good both shows are, why not expand the fandom?

God, this is comedy gold. Seriously, is this for real?

Yes, it seems so. Really idiotic thinking on their part.

yes, it is tumblr, it is very real

I've seen some of this SJW shit before, maybe not from these specific sources, but elsewhere where SJWs were merely bashing or terrorizing bronies. It's very real.

Oh it's the Tumblr SJW kind of war. Also that article was hilarious.

The article may be funny, but the SJWs' terrorism is anything but funny. Seeing as cyberbullying claims so many lives every year, what the SJWs are doing shouldn't be tolerated at all. Anyone who sees this garbage should speak out against their bullying.

*claps* THANK YOU.

Don't let those adverts fool you, they don't do the show justice at all. I love FiM, but Steven Universe handily beats it as my favorite cartoon, and I'm recommending it to everyone I can. The stuff SU is doing is really forward-thinking in terms of western cartoons, and the season finale last Thursday was mind-blowingly awesome.

Also, Uncle Grandpa is just terrible xD

FiM and Steven Universe are both two different shows and don't really compare. Maybe some bronies are afraid that another fandom will cause this one to be smaller which isn't a very good reason to have fandom wars. There might even be a war against bronies and Star vs the Forces very soon.

You know, thinking about this further, I actually do have something else to say on the subject.

Yeah, I don't know why I'm putting so much thought into this either, but bear with me here.

Because, though a lot of these people are being really awful with what they're saying... I actually understand where they're coming from. As a geek girl, I know what it's like to be in a room full of 90% guys and feel uncomfortable. I've felt it at my school's anime club, and I've felt it at my local comic book store on game night. I know what it's like to feel like I don't belong because I'm not "one of the guys" in a space that should be gender-neutral. I understand why these people are scared.

But this is the wrong way to solve this problem. Trying to keep any gender out of a fandom, in addition to being impossible because you can't control what people like, only breeds further division and forces people into spaces that are "for their gender" even when those spaces aren't where they want to be.

All I can do is control what I put out, and use myself to show whoever I can that in the tiny spaces of the internet that I can influence, I'll do what I can to make sure everyone feels accepted. Maybe if we all did that, especially here in a space that I already feel is more accepting, we can at least make one space where these silly "wars" are never even thought of.

wait, THAT'S what started it? I check EQD almost everyday, so i knew it was a thing, but i didn't know that that was what started this mess.

I honestly don't get the big deal over Steven Universe.

I've watched a few episodes and I just couldn't get into it.

...But I love the pink lion

Trust me, no one gives a shit about your gender,

Hell, the Universe fandom told them not to draw R34 and ruin another show, but they threatened to do it anyway because bronies.

People don't need bronies to make Rule 34. SU porn existed in great volumes long before this whole drama.

I'm sick of people treating MLP fans as if they're different from other fandoms, somehow. They aren't. Anything that is popular has porn coming out of the woodwork, every fandom has those people that we would rather not talk about. MLP is no outlier in this, it just appears different because liking MLP already was different.

We're all freaks, in our own special way. This whole "but we arn't as bad as THOSE guys!" thing is ridiculous. The people who like MLP aren't some special kind of degenerate. They're just people who like a thing, like everyone else.

...yeah, I'm gonna say this is a perfect example of why I no longer go on tumblr. I'm really not interested in round 283627 of "bronies are responsible for all evil in the world" because this is as dumb as all those other times. But - like all those other times - it's probably gonna stay confined to the crazies and die down in a few weeks/days(?), while the rest of us go about our business as usual. @Eloquence already summed up my feelings on the matter more...well, eloquently than I ever could :P

Well, I for one don't even know what this Steven Universe thing even is. From what I've gathered it's a cartoon of some sort that's been airing recently.

Regardless, people out there are going to feel the need to be superior to one another. In the end, these bronies are just as guilty as the SU fans. People need to grow the heck up and get over themselves.

It's such a shame that we got plenty of these arguments nowadays. All people should know better than to just start a pointless argument.

I remember watching some Steven Universe episodes and the show is not bad. It does have some funny moments so I say it is enjoyable for viewers at any age.

Instead of just fighting with words and judge one another, we should all just stop this unnecessary conflict and respect each other on the things we like.

I bet these three had something to do with this...
