"Go ahead Violet, I got enough cookies stashed somewhere else." she said as she turned her head back as to Spellblind. "Well then, congratulations. Ye'll do a fine job. In fact, ye can start right now. As a co-captain, it's yer responsibility to take over the captains job when she can't do it. As ye can see looking at my wings, that's probably gonna be the case since I'll be resting much. So first thing, learn how to steer the wheel. Rave and Tyra can help ye with that, they have done it before.

 

She turned her attention back to Rave "I don't know Rave, I don't think magic is such a good idea right now. I mean the healing spell from last night was just to calm me pain but this a whole other situation. I had a broken wing before, I tried magic for it once but it kinda made it even worse. Are ye sure it will help, I want to be absolutely sure that it won't go wrong."

"The spell is only to help your bones heal and get into position. It also numbs the pain a little bit. However, it doesn't work unless you rest your wings all the time. I don't know what spell you used, but I have used this spell a few times before on pegasi...... well, I actually watched a friend use the spell on pegasi" he offered, smiling nervously. 

 

He looked at Spellbind, he nodded to her silently, congratulating her.

Wilhelm, who had made his way over to the discussion, peered at the wings. "You can't feel anything? Eh, that may be a problem." He turned to Rave. "Rave, she might have nerve damage, so you may need to use a different specialized spell." Wilhelm shrugged. "But that's just my medical opinion. It's your marefriend, after all, and the patient herself has the final decision of treatment under the Hooficratic Oath."

violet flew up to the cookies, taking as much as she could carry. "here ya go, flare!" she said, as they both started muching down on cookies. "thanks caramel!" she said, "hold up. flare, dont we know a pain-killer antidote? yeah, we do!" she fished around in her bag, and pulled out some herbs, which she began crushing in a bowl. "ok...flare, some fire, please..." flare spit a small fireball into it, which caused it to go up in flames, and violet crushed it up a little more. she offered the bowl to caramel. "its gonna taste bad. i mean, bad. but! if ya can choke it down, you will feel better. little to no pain"

Rave was a little bit irritated as Wilhelm stated that Caramel was his marefriend. He noticed Violet trying to offer help as well. He looked at Caramel again. "It seems that there are others that can help you. If you don't wish for magical treatment, you can get help from those others offering their help. Wilhelm seems to know medical treatment better, so he must know what to do". He walked away.

"ye know what, thanks for yer help everypony, but I don't need it. I'll just be strong, I'll do it myself." she stood up and walked away, heading to her quarters. "I'll just do it myself, I can do it myself, I don't need any help, I'll be fine on my own. I can save myself." she mutter to herself. She walked into her room, closed her door and went straight to bed. "I have been alone all me life anyway.'' she said as a tear rolled from her eyes. She took one last cookie and before she closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

Tyra finished the bottle and chucked it over her shoulder, letting out a loud burp. "Aah, nothing like good rum on a good day!"

 

As she neared the other crewmembers, her ears perked up at the mention of cookies. She'd tried some while in a small town in Equestria, and she had developed quite a taste for them.

"Did somepony mention cookies?" She grinned hungrily, tail wagging. She watched was an injured looking Caramel took herself below deck.

 

She cocked her head like a confused dog. "What did I miss?"

"Well, we've been tending to Caramel and asking how she is," informed Spellbind. "Since she can't tend to her duties at the moment, I'm supposed to take over as co-captain. She suggested I turn to you and Rave for advice. Apparently you've done it before," she went on.

Rave went to his room. He knew that if anypony needed him, they would know where to look for him. He was going over maps and scrolls. "So, with this setback, we should be able to reach our destination in 2 days. I hope the wind will be with us". He drew some arrows pointing to the islands to be able to better concentrate.

"You need advice from me?" Tyra repeated, cocking her head to the side. She noticed that Rave have walked below deck, so it looked like it was up to her. A grin formed on her face as she looked up at Spellbind.

 

"I would be happy to help, friend," she declared, smiling widely, "how can I do so?"

"Well, whatever the captain does, I guess," said Spellbind, happy at Tyra's eagerness to help her out with her new position. "I am the replacement for that role after all. Y'know, stuff like steering the boat and making sure it runs well and telling the crew what to do."

violet was a little hurt that caramel declined her help. but she was used to the 'ill do it alone' ponys. shes friends with caliber, after all. but still..."flare, give tyra a cookie." flare looked at her, and took a cookie in his talons, and flew over to tyra, offering the cookie. "aw, look at that!" violet said, "he feels sorry for snapping at you yesterday! and," she turned towards spellbind, "you can come to me for help, as well."

"Ah, steering the ship!" Tyra grinned, trotting over to the wheel, "This is not too difficult! Simply keep your hooves in this position, and keep a sharp eye on the horizon!" She assumed the position of sailing the ship, looking up at Spellbind to make sure she was paying attention.

 

"Would you like to try?" She grinned.

 

She blinked and watched as Flare gave her a cookie, and smiled as Violet explained.

"Oh, well my thanks, little friend," She spoke much softer to the phoenix, gently petting his feathers.

Assassin slept for a long time, and suddenly woke up. She quickly went outside of the ship and saw couple ponies minding their own business. She walked up to a pony who was steering the ship and asked, "Sorry I was a bit late, can you tell me what happened?". She quickly realized that it was Tyra who was steering ship, she stumbled and murmured, "Can you.. steer.. well..?".

Tyra looked over and noticed Assassin approaching the mares. At her question, she gave her a confident smirk.

 

"Of course," she nodded, "my father took on his longship with him all the time as a filly, and this feels not much different."

 

The smirk turned into her trademark toothy grin. "Besides, I sailed us out of the harbour not too long ago!"

Caramel woke up after a long nap. It felt like she had been sleeping for days. She looked at her wings. Her right wing was feeling better but her left wing was still pretty much broken. With a sad face the got out of bed, put on her jacket and walked out of her room towards the kitchen. "Water, I need water." she thought. After a view glasses of water and a cookie she felt a bit better and so decided to go above deck to see what the crew was up to.

Assassin saw Caramel walking out and waved at her. "Captain! I was worried about you. Now, how are you feeling? You you think you feel better now? You can lead us without any problem! Right..?". She pointed at every crew and said,"They're all worried about you, especially Rave I think, really glad to see you out here."

Rave was tired after having worked on the maps for a long time. He decided that he needed some fresh air. He went above deck and saw Caramel on her hooves. "Car--- I mean captain, you are well?" a smile crept up his tired face. He was starting to feel better seeing that she herself seemed to be doing a little bit better.

"I'm not doing fine." She said with a grumpy face. "My right wing is okay again but my left one is still broken. The rest of my body still hurts and I can't find me rum. But other than that, I'm perfectly fine. No need to worry." Caramel said sarcastically as she inhaled deeply to calm her own mind. The smell of the salty sea indeed calm her mind, but the pain was still there. "I need some distraction, got anything for me?" she asked no one particular.

"Distraction? Well, I have been looking at things and they don't look too good. It seems some of our supplies got lost during the storm. If we continue on our normal route, we won't make it. However, there is another way, a shortcut, however, it is very, very dangerous".

Lordy overheard te converstaion and stepped forward a bit.

"Maybe now you could try this scotch."

He said as he waved a small bottle.

"Should get rid of the pain in no-time. Trust me, i tried it."

 

He stretched the bottle towards the captain with a little smile.

Caramel gladly took the scotch. She was still more of the rum but a free drink she would never decline.

"I think I know what shortcut ye mean. Deadmares cross. I lost my last crew because of that so called shortcut. It was some kind of evil creature. I saw it with my own eyes but I don't know what it was. I wasn't really thinking about taking any picture because I flew away as fast I could, it was horrifying. Not to mention the smell of that beast, disgusting." Caramel said still remembering it all to well.

 

"It seems that we have no other choice. We can turn back but we'll be dying of hunger before we get to shore. Only other option is that you jump in the waters, but it unlikely ye'll survive the wild sea. We must prepare for this. This can be the end of our journey."

"May you describe that creature? I mean we have also had stories of missing ships and was wondering if it is the same thing?" Lordy took out a old book and started flicking the pages. "I mean there were reports of deadly creatures but some captains managed to find a way to escape them. Maybe i could find something in here."

"Evil creature?" Tyra piped up, seemingly appearing out of nowhere amongst the taller ponies, with a wide grin on her face. She was glad that Caramel was well after resting for so long, but the mention of a potential new opponent had grabbed her interest.

 

Her braided tail began to swish around excitedly. Compared to the other crewmembers, to a stranger she probably looked more like a filly about to go to a dress-up party.

Spellbind was hugely relieved when Caramel returned from her absence and showed that, but then got more and more nervous as Caramel's speech went on. By the end of it, upon hearing that this jourey could possibly come to a close, she was shaking and sweating.
