How should I name this card?

Hi there!

I currently work on an artwork for my boardgame and created the lockbox provided by the Tree of Harmony in season 4 as an item. First of all... how do you like it?

Furthermore.... does this lockbox have a specific name mentioned in the show? If yes, which name is it? If not, how should I name the item? The chosen name appears like this on the finished card, currently stating "Mysterious Lockbox":

The background of the artwork is not finished of course.

Looks great to me, they never named the chest, but the only thing that came out was the rainbow power.

If i had to, i would say Lockbox of Harmony.

http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Chest_of_Harmony

It is described here as the Chest of Harmony. However, I feel like this is a name more suitable for it's activated status. Something along the lines of "Mysterious Lockbox" would befit it in it's locked status, as it's function was unknown.

In that case "Mysterious Lockbox" would be a little more suitable in the context of my boardgame as the characters you play as are minor characters (or OCs) and are more likely not to know what they have in their hooves until they really need it and after fulfilling its use, the item has to be discarded. Unlike most items, you can only use it once for an enormous bonus instead of  a smaller benefit present during the game.

I never looked at it that way.

That card looks awesome! :squee:

But +9 combat check? is this going to be similar to d&d?

Yes and no :). It is a boardgame similar to an existing one named Arkham Horror, although it only borrows the mechanics and numbers from there, Ponyville Mystery is actually art-wise completely self-made. The game is about playing as a minor character or OC (if one likes to create his characters with the character sheet template), walking through Ponyville and solving investigations. Along with your character comes a set amount of money, set items, randomized items, skills and sometimes even a pet. Most rounds you stop at a location of your choice and get a card of said location, describing what is going on there. Mostly you need to pass a check (Combat-check, Speed-check, Lore-check, etc.) depicting the outcome of an event and the better your character is in that field, the more dice you can use trying to pass.

Every character has unique strengths and weaknesses, along with special abilities. Item, such as this box, help you with these tasks.

A little example:

Say you chose Nurse Redheart as your character (http://ponyvillemystery.deviantart.com/art/Nurse-Redheart-Investigator-Card-357458955). Every pairing of stats (Speed/Sneak, Fight/Will, Lore/Luck) is linked to each other. For example... the more lore you choose, the less luck you have (you indicate your choice by placing a marker there)

You now decide to go to the Poison Joke Field http://konsumo.deviantart.com/art/Gameboard-Poison-Joke-Field-494912017

(maybe to avoid an enemy you are not keen to fight or you are on your way to Zecoras Hut to learn about a magic spell).

You end your turn there and get a card, for example this one: http://konsumo.deviantart.com/art/Deep-Everfree-Forest-06-496797130

You now have to pass a Luck check (-1) in order to be lucky enough to notice an item. This means you look up how much Luck you currently have, subtract 1 (because it is a -1 check) and roll this amount of dice. If its a five or a six, you succeed, getting the item.

Some items grant a bonus to certains stats and can help you (for example http://konsumo.deviantart.com/art/Firefly-Lantern-376277358 )

Wow. WOW. How'd you get it so HD? *gasp* Look at those details! This is amazing! :D

I started off by creating the different shapes and parts from paths rather than just drawing it. After that I shaded it, worked on textures and only after that I added in all the little details. The inscriptions, ornaments and such are most of the work to be fully honest but I really like fiddling around with all the little details. I love the idea of exploring a picture, noticing details and sometimes even finding hidden messages the artist left. ;)
