That makes sense, the arena in the Imperial City back home works in the same way!" She smiled at his compliment. "I would love to let you see what I can do. What about you, are you registered too?" Axton thought about it. Fighting in the arena? Sounded like fun, but he always had jobs to complete, "Maybe. If I have time. The soulkeeper keeps busting my chops. The Down Trotten 299 August 29, 2015 Share August 29, 2015 (edited) The amount of which she could almost toy with him, or to put it more fairly, humor him was rather frustrating. Even if he knew it was no fault of her own, he was still annoyed at the fact that even some of his best and daring plans couldn't phase her. But that wasn't why he was here, at least not the main reason. Focusing on not falling over and keeping up with the Princess was a challenge enough "Your right, your a lot stronger then I anticipated... and I tried to have no exceptions considering who you are your highness" as he finished the sentence he was given too complicated of a dance step, landed on his burned hoof wrong and stumbled rather foolishly. Picking himself up as quickly as he could, being half dragged by the gracious royal, he tried his best to act as if nothing happened "But I can't waste any time, I'm sure the audience is getting bored and you must have a stunning conclusion planned for them." he tried to glance at the ever glowing orbs but halted himself for fear of falling down again. "So here it is Princess of the sun, my humble trump card. Are you fit to rule Equestria?" he asked with as much clarity that a dancing stallion could afford, and even continued "And don't give me an answer, for it is not my business to know, not yet. For I cannot answer the question, the only one who can answer the question is you. Only you know everything there is to know about you, and there for are the only one who can pass fair judgment. But ah yes the problem, will you pass fair judgment on yourself? Will you be to fair, or too harsh? No one will know or can know. So you have to ask yourself is your answer, the only answer which is even viable, sufficient enough for such an important question?" he stopped and tried to regain his breath, the finale was coming and the only thing he could do to prepare for it was hope he could still walk afterwards Celestia smiled wryly at the suggestion, and the whips disappeared as the piano crashed to the floor with a groan She lit up her horn, and without warning, music began to play, echoing beautifully throughout the room without body or voice. Fractured 2,682 August 29, 2015 Share August 29, 2015 (edited) Rarity laughed openly when the water struck her, but it wasn't that bad; she was already wet, and the feeling of the cuts healing up on her body was nice, she had to admit. Still... it wasn't something that she wanted to go through a full experience with. Not in the slightest. "I don't know. I think i'm fine right here. It looks a little cold. And spirity..." She walked over slowly beside Ice Blizzard, dipping her individual hoofs in and watching them heal up in interest. ------- @The Down Trotten Celestia never stopped smiling, and she never stopped dancing, except perhaps slowing down a little to allow Rhetoric to keep proper pace. But in her eyes, there was understanding, a very keen one. She knew the answer to that question; it was one that she had asked herself many, many times before. And she had always come up with the same answer... Her attention was interrupted as the lights finally dimmed, then flickered, then went out. There was a hush, and then light absolutely exploded through the air around them from the orbs, slamming down through the hall in concentrated beams about twice the size of Celestia's forleg. They moved slowly, but surely, cutting intricate patterns through the dark room, lighting up only the places around them that they touched. "It's the final act." She spoke simply, softly as she continued to move, and it would be hard to hear even for somepony who was next to her over the roar of the beams. "These beams don't cut, or burn, but they do happen to have enough power in them to temporarily paralyze any who touch them. Myself included." Her face was blank and expressionless, although it'd be impossible to tell in the dark anyway. "So, I believe it is my turn for a question. Rhetoric Rash, you came all this way and challenged the Princess of Equestria to a fight, but not for glory, or revenge, or even for the chance to fight. You came to ask a simple question. But why? What is it you wish to gain from making me question myself? And what is it that you want?" She spun him suddenly, causing them both to just barely miss a beam that swept by them, leaving a glowing trail as it crossed the room. The Down Trotten 299 August 29, 2015 Share August 29, 2015 (edited) He gulped as the beam of light nearly grazed him. Being paralyzed didn't sound all that pleasant, but it wouldn't hurt either. The Princess was going easy on him, and try as he might there was a part of him that boiled in anger at the thought. Fortunately he was way to busy with the current situation to let his passions rise. Clearing his throat he prepared to answer "To gain?... I don't have anything to gain, perhaps a purpose, or even maybe even a piece to the grand puzzle I've made for myself. But that is a pipe dream, as for what I want? I want Equestra safe, and those in it, and I fear in our current state we face troubling times" there were some other things he wanted too of course, but he had put them aside so many times and they seemed almost selfish to even desire he left them buried. He paused for a breath and barely missed another orb as it whizzed by his face "Let my try to answer it this way. Why did I come all this way to ask you a question. Your and the other alicorns are the only ones with the answers, your the only ones who would care, your the only ones who can actually change things in this world of ours. I've tried starting from the bottom, but its produced nothing, so I'm working from the top" yet another orb passed by him. He knew it was the Princesses doing that he was still on his feet, and at this point he felt rather pathetic "I apologize I couldn't have given you a better opponent, such a dull way to introduce yourself to the arena. But I fear, I shall meet the next orb face first." not to his surprise his royal questioning was more or less a failure, and he had succeed in only making himself look like a full blown idiot. "So, I believe it is my turn for a question. Rhetoric Rash, you came all this way and challenged the Princess of Equestria to a fight, but not for glory, or revenge, or even for the chance to fight. You came to ask a simple question. But why? What is it you wish to gain? What is it that you want?" J.R. 3,179 August 29, 2015 Share August 29, 2015 @, Blizzard was, once again, distracted by Rarity. He really didn't want to push her all the way in if she didn't want to. So he decided to show her what else there was, "I see. Wait right here, I'll be right back...." Ice left for a moment, and came back with a lei of purple flowers. He sat down behind Rarity, and lifted up her wet hair so the lei could go around her neck, "Oh dear Celestia, her hair is like silk....." After doing so, he sat down next to her again, and said, "Heliotropes. A nice purple flower. There's actually a whole field of them. Want me to show you?" he asked eagerly. "I can imagine so," Jade agreed, nodding once, then tilted her head again, "Though, like I asked you before, if you are tired of this duty, why do you not simply leave and let this employer of yours find somepony else to hunt souls for them?" Outside of the wonders, and Ice Blizzard, her mind spun, just thinking of all of the beautiful designs that she could come up with... ------- @The Down Trotten "You are wrong." Celestia stopped suddenly, and the music ended as well. She looked down at Rhetoric Rash, ignoring the beams continuing their almost lazy way around the room as she looked right at him and began to talk. "You may not have been a crowd pleaser, Rhetoric Rash, but that does not mean that you were not a good opponent. You have done something that very few competitors here could or would ever do; challenged me in my mind. You have forced me to think, asked me something that few ponies would ever think to say, and done so boldly. But, more than that, you do so not out out of selfish reasons, or anger, but because you feel compassion for those around you." She stopped and paused, closing her eyes, and shivering slightly. "But, is that enough?" She shouted suddenly, and the darkness seemed to concentrate on Celestia, pulling in for one shuddering second, before she quite literally burst into flames. It was not a slow reaction; every inch of her body simply became wreathed in raw, roaring fire, glowing in the darkness and burning hot enough to make the handcuffs sizzle and bubble in a white hot glow. Before they could melt however, she ditched them; she teleported above Rhetoric in a burst of solid light that briefly lit up the whole room like a small sun. Stretching out her wings to both sides, she rose above him, slowly. Flames rumbled, then burst out from her body even further, towering towards the ceiling and spiraling off towards sides of the room as the shape of a phoenix formed in the air, wings enormous and sparking and beak snapping fiercely. It towered over him at first, screaming menacingly as it suddenly dived down, looking ready to devour him. And then... it disappeared, vanishing into the air as Celestia stopped and fell to the floor. The errant light beam that had just passed over Rhetoric Rash's body and caught her wing instead still continued its lazy path across the room briefly, before disappearing, along with all of the other beams, then the orbs themselves. The light returned to the room as Celestia dropped to the floor in front of Rhetoric, unmoving. Edited August 29, 2015 by Corona de Adamas

Possibly because of her fragile appearance, or her kindness to him. Possibly both. Griffonstone was never the nicest place, not even to its locals, so acts of kindness toward him were rare. At least up until that mare patched up his leg that she'd broken. That still seemed weird to him.

Vae Victis 742 August 29, 2015 Share August 29, 2015 Tyra watched as the statues helped Lorec approach her. This was the final moment, she knew it. Those had to be the spirits of his family helping him. He began a charge toward her, which she responded to in kind. Her legs were aching and she felt ready to collapse, but this fight was still on, and she wouldn't stop until it was over. With a forced roar, she jerked her head to the side and gave her axe a heavy swing to meet with Lorec's sword, using all her might. Hopefully it would still be enough to stop him. Lorec, having thrown all of his remaining strength into the swing, felt as though it took ages for it to land. As time seemingly slowed for him, it felt as though his life had began to flash before his eyes, reliving memories almost as if they were the exact events occurring for the first time, and not just echoes from a past long gone. He saw all the battles he had ever taken part in. He witnessed the legend of the Saduarian beast grow evermore gargantuan. He experienced once more the joy of family, the idolizations from others, and many other pleasures of life. He revisited the agony of how he had lost all of it, along with the guilt of having done so. And finally, with the clashing of blades, he was brought back to the present, and reveled in a new sensation. The feeling of acceptance and atonement, along with finally being able to feel true pride once more. But not in himself. In Tyra. When the blades clashed, Lorec was indeed stopped by Tyra's swing. Slumped over as he had used his entire body to swing what was left of his zweihander, Lorec was now only held upward by Tyra's opposing weight. That is, until he shifted slightly over to the side, and continued to fall to the ground, right beside Tyra. Turning over as he fell, he landed hard on his back, and the sword dropped out of the great minotaur's mouth. Breathing heavily and gently, it was as if he were a great bear hibernating, save for the fact that even still, he was in fact conscious. Beaten bloody and pushed past the absolute threshold of his limit to achieve what even he thought himself incapable of, he could only but smile sorrowfully at the mare who had defeated him. If she wanted the truth behind why he wanted such a hellacious battle that could have easily killed him, then he would more than provide an answer. And besides, he would need her help to deliver the last strike toward his true goal... " Krigare Tyra.... You stand victor over the Beast of Saduaris." --------------------------------------------------------- The acolytes of Lorec's unit only sat in silence. No screaming or cheering, no fists raised or hysteria. Only observation in silence as the battle had finally concluded. Near them, the gentle cries of a youth could be heard. A young female Minotaur, crying out for her father and her first new friend to end the battle. Kazas, Syuren, alrahm, and Vorrin sat in silence, with Syuren trying to comfort her as though he were an older brother. " Papa... Tyra... Please stop fighting and come back to me...." She fondly looked up at the clear blue sky, her smile growing wider. "Yes, it is definitely a pleasant morning. The mountains back home give you the best look of the sunrise, too." Axton understood. He needed some time to himself. He got up from the bench, "Yeah. I need some time to myself. I'll see you later, Jade. And thanks for your help." With that, Axton ran off, and teleported out of sight. --------------------- Electron Wave Storm was sleeping up high in a cloud. He was up late last night and hasn't gotten any good sleep. He suddenly turned off of his cloud, and fell. He then landed on a tree branch, and from there, the brach broke, landing him on the ground near the main road, still asleep. ----------------------------- Kazas, still with a concerned look, turned his head back towards the fight. " Alright Vera... But the offer is still upon the table if you wish to speak of it." Vera was getting immensely more and more worried by the minute. She wanted to tell Kazas the problem, but felt he shouldn't be worried with what she is responsible for. She got up, and tried to make a convincing statement, "Kazas...there's something I need to take care of. I'll meet you back here when the fight is over. See you in a bit." From there, she left the stands and walked out of the arena. Edited August 29, 2015 by Ice Blizzard
Unicorncob 5,497 August 29, 2015 Share August 29, 2015 (edited) Lorec, having thrown all of his remaining strength into the swing, felt as though it took ages for it to land. " Papa... Tyra... Please stop fighting and come back to me...." Time seemed to slow down around Tyra, watching as Lorec collapsed next to her while she stood still. Both were battered, broken and bleeding, but she was still standing. She actually couldn't believe it. She had won. But, she didn't understand something. There had to be more to this. "Why?" She finally asked, her voice breathy from her heavy panting and gasping, "Why...did you push yourself...so much to fight me...?" Axton understood. He needed some time to himself. He got up from the bench, "Yeah. I need some time to myself. I'll see you later, Jade. And thanks for your help." With that, Axton ran off, and teleported out of sight. Jade nodded once, smiling at her new friend. "Very well, I shall see you soon, friend." And with a flash, she was alone on the bench. With nothing else to do, she took up a meditative stance on the bench, standing completely frozen on one hoof. J.R. 3,179 August 30, 2015 Share August 30, 2015 Vera decided to register to fight in the arena at the registration desk. Once she was done, she left, and decided to walk around town, when she was stopped near the training grounds, and called out by a voice, "Your soul is tainted...." Vera turned around to see a pony with a scythe. He looked suspicious, so Vera reached for her sword, "What do you mean?" Axton walked closer, "Your soul has been tainted by your actions." His curse was starting to activate, along with his voice dropping an octave, "You're coming with me..." Vera was surprised to see the pony's body catch ablaze and not recive any pain. And just as well, his eyes had changed to fiery as well. hat was happening? "What do you mean? I'm not going anywhere with a creep like you." she snarled, "What 'actions' do you even know of?" Axton chuckled evilly, as he looked into Vera's soul, he could see what she had done in the past, "Oh, I suppose you're not a mercenary who has done things against others just for money? What kind of pony are you? Ponies like you deserve to be put down. Permanently. And it's my job to make sure it happens..." he readied his scythe, "Your soul is mine...." By now, Vera's sword was already out, and prepared for battle, "You're not taking my soul without losing in the process...." "Foolish mare....we can do this either the easy way or the hard way...." he said, coldly. Vera charged at him with her sword, "Bring it!"

J.R. 3,179 August 30, 2015 Share August 30, 2015 (edited) Vera rushed at Axton, and started slashing her sword. When she got close enough, Axton threw his scythe at her hooves, tripping her. And before she could land from the fall, Axton flip kicked her into the air, and slashed her with his spear on the way down, "Quit trying. You'll only make it harder for yourself..." Vera landed on her back, still levitating her sword, and was mostly ok. But had to get up and fight. She ran back over to Axton, and swung her sword. He managed to block nearly every one of her strikes with his scythe, "Not bad, but I've seen better." She had to come up with a new strategy soon... "Oh really? Then I suppose you haven't actually ever fouught a fair fight in all your years of that bullcrap you call a job. What a waste of life..." he said, while backing up a few feet. Vera was enraged. She never liked talking about the sensitivity of why she did what she had to, "You shut up! Grraaah!" she yelled while running straight at him. Axton teleported, and was now behind Vera, "Too slow.." he said before putting Vera in a headlock. It was almost to where she couldn't breathe, as Axton readied his scythe, "Time for your purification...." As Axton slowly began to slash Vera across her chest, Vera was still barely hagning onto he magical sigature. It was going out, as she lost focus, but managed to strike Axton with her sword to his leg. Axton lost concentration for a moment while flinching, allowing Vera to wiggle free. She then magically held her sword, and twisted it to cause Axton more pain, and took it back. From there, she conjured up a flaming ball of darkness, and ran towards Axtom while he was distracted. She slashed him quickly twice, and finsihed him off with an explosion from that flaming ball, "Don't mess with me!" She shoved the explsosion right in his face which blew Axton far. Vera, naturally followed, and teleported in advance based on where she calculated he would go. He went so far, and actually ended up flying to the inside of Applejack's bar on the floor. Vera looked around, and didn't see any sign of Axton. She felt victorious, and started to walk away, "Took care of him faster than a Friday Night pub stomp. Hm." Suddenly, Axton's spear flew and hit Vera right in one of her legs, stopping her from walking. She turned around to see what caused it, and did not like it one bit, "Oh buck...." Lektra Bolt 2,323 August 30, 2015 Share August 30, 2015 (edited) Sunset Shimmer was weary, and it took her a minute to translate the new pony's odd manner of speech. When she did, though, she nodded, slowly. "If you can get some food for me, and some smelling salts for my friend over here..." She pointed to Trixie, who was still in a state of perfect shock. "That would be perfectly fine. I'll even pay you." She removed the small purse that she had tied around her neck, making sure to take off the necklace that Celestia had given to her, and gave the pony a small pile of bits. Then, she sat back down heavily, trying hard to focus on the events happening in front of her. "You guys are all welcome to some of our popcorn." Flash said with a friendly grin. "We have plenty. Feel free to have some. It's not necessary to pay us, though. Please, take the bits back." Flash floated the bag of popcorn in front of the orange mare for her to eat as much as she wanted, as well as not accepting the bits when offered. "I'm Flash Bolt by the way, and this is my twin sister Speed Bolt. May I ask your names please?" "Hmm, smellingsaltsyousay? Wedon'thaveany." Speed said as she turned to the Pegasus stallion near them. "Sir, doyouhappentohaveanysmellingsalts? Thatbluemareoverthereisinshock." "Don't believe I do, little lady. I'll see if the pony next to me has any." He said as he turned over to his neighbor in the stands. Turned out they didn't either. This went on for a while until finally the pony on the absolute end of the line of stands happened to have some smelling salts. It got passed down through the crowd back to Speed, who uncorked the bottle and floated it close to the blue mare's muzzle close enough that it could be breathed in. "Hopefullythathadthedesiredeffect." She said with a grin as she closed the bottle and passed it back down the line. "Areyouokma'am?" She asked the blue mare, looking concerned. The twins then cheered for the combatants and clapped their forehooves as the fights concluded spectacularly.
