Do you think FiM should remain focused on girls, or should it shift to bronies?

It's already had a giant laser battle, some rather dark themes in episodes like "The cutie Map", and some surprisingly strange imagery in episodes like Bloom and Gloom. The show already appeals to both genders and all ages, it doesn't really need to change up what it's doing. I wouldn't mind some more interesting male characters, but as a whole the show is doing pretty fine as it is.

They shouldn't ignore the original demographic entirely, and the show being a bit "Girly" sometimes isn't a bad thing. Just like something being a bit "Manly" isn't a bad thing either.

I hope eventually MLP evolves to be a full on family show , that has both male and female major characters. I think they should make an episode just about the male major characters, you know, Big Mac, Shining Armor, Spike, and some others, and expand on their characters. Is that a bad idea?

If you are asking if the show should give in to it's fans, then I strongly say no.

I say this because, while I cannot think of any examples right this second, I'm sure there are some somewhere that prove that the people don't know what they want. We will think we know what we want the show to do, but then once we see it, we will see how bad an idea it was, but it will be too late, because it is already canon to the show at that point.

I think it should just have a few more strong male characters. The show is fine as it is other than that. Despite its first target being little girls it had managed to grab the attention of older people and a lot of guys at that. So you know it's already doing something right. I say don't fix what isn't broke. But that is just my thoughts and I'm not a guy so my point might be considered invalid.

Colouring books are targeted at children of both sexes so I don't see how that's a problem, Twilight being a princess is not something exclusive to "little girls" entertainment, I will admit that EG does pander to the stereotype a little but nothing that would turn me away. And I don't get how it isn't already satisfying the needs of bronies, seriously does the gender of the characters really matter? So no nothing needs changing as far as I'm concerned.

There are some people who complain over how "girly" MLP:FiM seems to their tastes, from fears over Twily's royal status, a colouring book, and EqG.

That's been a thing pretty much since the series started. As ridiculous as they are, the 'fears' of MLP being too girly will remain thanks to the assumptions made by others. Besides, princesses are common is medium outside of MLP, coloring books exist for many properties, and EqG is fine.

I see no problem. :)

Honestly, the thought of the show being written to only cater to bronies is just downright frightening to me. It's bad enough that we'll be receiving one episode which is pretty much confirmed to exist only for fanservice, but the whole damn show?

*shudders*  :sunny:

Fortunately, it'll never happen though. Because the show will never stop being a marketing vehicle at its core. The "little girl" demographic will always be a factor.

In my personal opinion, believe it should stick with targeting the female audience. Why? Because the show empowers young girls so well! It shows little girls that you can be smart like Twilight, be strong like R.D. and A.J., be soft, sweet and shy like Fluttershy, outgoing party-animal like Pinkie, or even a priss like Rarity and still be an amazing, lovable woman! Now, am I saying this means the brony fandom should stop watching the show? No, of course not! The show is family based really, but it just more specifically reaches a younger female audience. :) That's why I love this show! It shows girls come in all shapes and sizes and it shows that they know what's best and that they can stand up for themselves!

Overall, I think everyone can watch it, but the show should stick with the young female audience thing they're doing. If you have an issue with how "girly" the show is-- a show which is meant to target a female audience anyway??-- then just don't watch it, simple as that. If you have an issue with little girls having a show for themselves, you're the issue, not them.

I think it's fine the way it is.

MLP being targeted towards young girls isn't some mark against it's quality. People gravitate to it because its a good show. Whether or not it's "girly" shouldn't matter.

It ain't broke. Don't fix it. The creators of the show are doing a great job. If they went too out of their way to appeal to us fans, I'd lose interest.

Wasn't that the moral in "Suited for Success", anyway? I'm just happy it's awesome. My compliments to the chef :)

I think it should ditch the gender issues and become more gender neutral: Appeal to all ages.

Exactly SaburoDaimando. You're absolutely right, this should be appealed to all ages and gender neutral...It could work right yeah.

Didn't we all fall in love with a show that was made for girls? How can it be "too girly"

I guess targeting the brony fandom a bit would be nice, but I'm happy with it how it is :)

The show became popular even though it was focusing girls. I think they shouldn't change a thing.

The fact that it's for girls is what makes it different from other popular cartoons, it's original.

Well seeing as most bronies, including myself, jumped on the band wagon at season one, before DHX really caught wind of our presence and we still fell in love with it then; I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

They throw a couple things our way, jokes that the younger ones wouldn't get, a fanon character getting a moment to shine, they still keep the focus where it should be.

"Fun for all ages" is the best approach in my mind.

It's a show marketed for 6-8 year old girls. Sailor moon was marketed for girls, but a lot of guys watched that too. Hasbro isn't going to change anything, because they are profiting.

Let's be honest with ourselves; MLP is an ad.

It's an entertaining ad and may even be high enough quality to be considered art (whatever art means) [The comic has gotten a fair amount of awards for comics in general].

Were the show to focus on Bronies, would they sell as much?  If the answer is no, then changing the focus would mean ending the show.

Therefore, since changing the focus would [likely] kill the show.  I must emphatically disagree with changing the focus, because I enjoy watching this heartwarming, funny, and entertaining ad..

I kinda dig this idea, but I also want to add in that since the brony following emerged it's already converted from being "girly" to really being acceptable for all people. I think the first two seasons was where it was most and then it tapered off.

I like the all-female lead cast personally, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to put a bit of a Phineas and Ferb twist on it by providing strong male and female lead characters.

the logo still has lots of hearts.

they're still called Cutie Marks.

the core of the show has evolved a lot anyway.
